People do stupid things all the time. They even advertising stupid things all the time and not always on Craigslist. This however definitely has to rank right up there in the Darwin Award level of dumb ass ideas.

According to a report on CNN some twit in North Carolina advertised on Craigslist seeking out an equally stupid person to come to his home and “…. have sex with his wife using some type of scare tactic.” Not only did the guy get a response but he got two of them from the same person.

The only reason this got out was because someone called 911 and reported that some armed male had appeared in the couple’s bedroom and assaulted the woman while her husband looked on.

Police responded to the home at about 2:45 a.m. after receiving a 911 call indicating a male armed with a knife appeared in the couple’s bedroom and sexually assaulted the man’s wife, authorities said.

The man was present at the time of the assault, and two young children were in the home, but were unharmed and unaware of the incident, the police statement said.

"During the investigation, investigators interviewed the victim and her husband," the statement said. "Investigators became suspicious when they noticed there was no sign of forced entry to the home. Investigators also developed information that led them to note specific inconsistencies in the initial statement provided by [the man]."

But on Tuesday, police found that the man "had responded to at least two personal ads on Craigslist.com in an effort to arrange for someone to come to his home and have sex with his wife using some type of scare tactic."

"Investigators believe [he] arranged this incident without the knowledge or consent of the victim," the police statement said.

Needless to say the offending idiot is facing charges that includes first-degree rape, two counts of first-degree sexual assault offense and one count of attempted first-degree sexual offense. No word though on what the husband got slapped with.

Of course we are now waiting for the press conference of government officials in North Carolina who are running for election in order to blame this all on Craigslist.

Plaxico Burress, the New York Giants wideout accidentally shot himself in the leg at a nightclub Friday night. Burress spent the night at the hospital. Sadly he won’t be qualifying for a Darwin Award as his wound is not considered life-threatening. Plaxico now means dumb footballer in latin.

Burress had already been injured before he shot himself. His hamstring injury which would have prevented him from playing in this Sundays’ game against the Washington Redskins is now presumably much worse.

Videos and camera phone footage of Plaxico shooting himself are not yet available. Apparently a $35 million contract doesn’t stop you making an ass of yourself.

Fans of the New York team should be pissed. This is another black spot in what has not been a good year off the field for Burress. He has been suspended and fined several times this season for missing meetings and arguing with officials.

Burress has been insisting that he and his $35 million contract are not a distraction to the team. Yeah well how about shooting yourself in the leg? Think that qualifies as a distraction? Chump. The New York Giants should ask for their money back.

The following comes from an email I received; I can’t confirm the results with the site which doesn’t seem to have been updated since April, but even if they aren’t the final Darwin Awards 2008 winners, the list is worth sharing.

Ninth Place
In Detroit, a 41-year-old man got stuck and drowned in two feet of water after squeezing head first through an 18-inch-wide sewer grate to retrieve his car keys.

Eighth Place
A 49-year-old San Francisco stockbroker, who totally zoned when he ran, accidentally jogged off a 100-foot high cliff on his daily run.

Seventh Place
While at the beach, Daniel Jones, 21, dug an 8-foot hole for protection from the wind and had been sitting in a beach chair at the bottom when it collapsed, burying him beneath 5 feet of sand. People on the beach used their hands and shovels trying to get him out but could not reach him. It took rescue workers using heavy equipment almost an hour to free him. Jones was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Sixth Place
Santiago Alvarado, 24, was killed as he fell through the ceiling of a bicycle shop he was burglarizing. Death was caused when the long flashlight he had placed in his mouth to keep his hands free rammed into the base of his skull as he hit the floor.

Fifth Place
Sylvester Briddell, Jr., 26, was killed as he won a bet with friends who said he would not put a revolver loaded with four bullets into his mouth and pull the trigger.

Fourth Place
After stepping around a marked police patrol car parked at the front door, a man walked into H&J Leather & Firearms intent on robbing the store. The shop was full of customers and a uniformed officer was standing at the counter. Upon seeing the officer, the would-be robber announced a hold-up and fired a few wild shots from a target pistol. The officer and a clerk promptly returned fire, and several customers also drew their guns and fired. The robber was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Crime scene investigators located 47 expended cartridge cases in the shop. The subsequent autopsy revealed 23 gunshot wounds. Ballistics identified rounds from 7 different weapons. No one else was hurt.

Third Place
Paul Stiller, 47, and his wife Bonnie were bored just driving around at 2 A.M. so they lit a quarter stick of dynamite to toss out the window to see what would happen. Apparently they failed to notice the window was closed.

Second Place
Kerry Bingham had been drinking with several friends when one of them said they knew a person who had bungee-jumped from a local bridge in the middle of traffic. The conversation grew more heated and at least 10 men trooped along the walkway of the bridge at 4:30 AM. Upon arrival at the midpoint of the bridge they discovered that no one had brought a bungee rope. Bingham, who had continued drinking, volunteered and pointed out that a coil of lineman’s cable lay near by. They secured one end around Bingham’s leg and then tied the other to the bridge. His fall lasted 40 feet before the cable tightened and tore his foot off at the ankle. He miraculously survived his fall into the icy water and was rescued by two nearby fishermen. Bingham’s foot was never located.

Winner
German Zookeeper, Friedrich Riesfeldt, fed his constipated elephant 22 doses of animal laxative and more than a bushel of berries, figs and prunes before the plugged-up pachyderm finally got relief. Investigators say ill-fated Friedrich, 46, was attempting to give the ailing elephant an olive oil enema when the relieved beast unloaded. The sheer force of the elephant’s unexpected defecation knocked Mr. Riesfeldt to the ground where he struck his head on a rock as the elephant continued to evacuate 200 pounds of dung on top of him
