Sharks aren’t the only animals attacking people lately. A crocodile in Indonesia ate a 10-year-old girl while she was playing in the Wailolong river. It is the second crocodile related death to occur in the Wailolong in the last month.

The AFP reports that the little girl was swimming with her brothers in the river when a large crocodile appeared. The croc swallowed the girl instantly and disappeaerd beneath the water.

Viktor Mado Waton, Lembata district head in East Nusa Tenggara province, said:

“They only found the girl’s clothes three hours after the incident, some 200 metres (650 feet) away from the attack site… Her father saw this shocking scene as he was only a few feet away in the water.”

According to the AFP a 12-year-old boy was eaten by a crocodile in early December. Officials have warned locals about swimming in the river and are working to close down the area to avoid a future attack.

While spotting Alligators in Florida is a rather regular occurrence finding the endangered American crocodile in pubic is nearly impossible but that’s exactly what a Florida woman did this week.

Shondra Farner called in to report the crocodile and at first officials didn’t believe her since only approximately 1,500 of the American Crocs live in the area and they are typically all found in a specific 300 mile radius.

Shondra says the official originally told her:

“He said, ‘No, ma’am, you have an alligator,’ and I said, ‘No, I know the difference.”

Farner told the CSMonitor:

“That big boy was just about 8 feet (2.5 meters) from our patio,” said Farner, who snapped photos of the croc with its mouth open. “It’s terribly scary looking. And fast. When he turned to leave, I couldn’t believe how quick he was.”

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission points out an interesting fact, while Alligators occasionally bite people there has never been a documented American Crocodile attack in the state. In any case they suggest not attempting to feed or pet the crocodile, that sounds like excellent advice to me.

Some readers may recall my post September 30 about a whale being euthanized with explosives in Western Australia. I said in that post that Western Australia was Australia’s wild west. The Northern Territory on the other hand is rougher again.

A 7 year old boy has been caught breaking into a wildlife park in Alice Springs in the Northern Territory, Australia. While small children breaking and entering may not be completely unique, what he did next most certainly is.

After breaking into the park, the boy feed a range of small animals, including species considered rare (as in not many of them) to the parks resident crocodile.

The boy fed a turtle, four western blue tongue lizards, two bearded dragons, two thorny devil lizards and a 1.8 metre Spencers goanna to “Terry,” a 9.8 feet (3m) 441 pound (200kg) saltwater crocodile. According to the SMH, the boy was also caught on camera bludgeoning to death a small blue tongue lizard and two more thorny devils.

As the boy is under the age of criminal liability in the Northern Territory, the wildlife park has said it may sue his parents for the loss of the animals.
