Kings of Leon have cancelled the rest of their US tour so the bands frontman Caleb Followill can rest and recuperate his vocal chors.

In a statement released by the band they wrote:

 ”We are so sorry to say Kings of Leon are canceling their entire US tour due to Caleb Followill suffering from vocal issues and exhaustion,” while adding, “The band is devastated, but in order to give their fans the shows they deserve, they need to take this break. Unfortunately, the US dates cannot be rescheduled due to the band’s international tour schedule.”

Fans of the band and their smash hit “Use Somebody” will be refunded the full amount of their ticket and the band will begin touring again in Canada on September 28.

In the meantime Followill will be hanging out with his Victoria Secret model wife Lily Alridge, not a bad way to recuperate.

Whitney Houston, Dolly Parton called and she’s taking her song back.

A few months after outraged Aussies streamed en masse out of Whitney Houston gigs in Sydney and Brisbane, a Taiwanese boy put Houston’s current vocals to shame with an amazing cover of the (admittedly pretty awful already) Whitney Houston version of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You.” Rumors that Houston’s skills are gone for good have been circulating for a while, but the clip below seems to bear that out. Crack- whack, indeed.

I’ve always found her music to be intolerable, but even to a non-fan, the caliber of the performance below is shockingly bad.

Whitney Houston is perhaps better known now for her reality show with ex Bobby Brown and drug problems than her vocal talents.

Still, fans in Brisbane, Australia lined up to see the fading songstress Monday night, until she started sucking. Then they wanted a refund:

One woman commented that Houston “can’t sing, couldn’t perform and was the worst act we’ve ever seen”, sentiments echoed by many others. “She couldn’t entertain a dead rat,” was another comment.

Even her tour manager conceded that Houston’s performance didn’t exactly meet what’s expected of the singer, but stopped short of an apology:

“[She] is now up on stage, warts and all, presenting herself like an open book for the world to see and they want to ridicule Whitney. If they expected to hear the Whitney of 20 years ago, go buy a CD. If they want to see a true professional artist give 100%, well come along and enjoy the ride of an amazing talent, on stage, letting her heart and soul out for us all to enjoy.”

A performance on Wednesday in Sydney didn’t go over well, either. Fans report that while the first 50 minutes were okay, the set “broke down” after a thirteen minute break in the show:

One fan, Shane Norquay, tells the paper, “Some of it’s been beautiful and some it is just horrible. It feels like she’s trying to be herself but it’s not working.”

Bernadette Latta, whose son bought her the tickets as a Christmas gift, adds, “It’s terrible. I have never walked out before a concert finished but that was just terrible. I’ll be suggesting my son tries to get a refund.”

Ouch. It looks like the only showbiz project in Houston’s future might be a stint on Celebrity Rehab.

Whitney Houston took the stage for a short four song set in Central Park today.

Houston was taping the performance for tomorrow’s Good Morning America. Fans queued for one of 2,000 seats, and seemed to be pleased even though Houston reportedly avoided high notes and blamed a cracking voice on an Oprah interview yesterday.

Houston started her set with her new single “Million Dollar Bill,” and included “I’m Every Woman,” “My Love Is Your Love,” and “I Look To You,” which she dedicated to her mother Cissy, backstage. During the show, she took a break to interview with GMA hosts Robin Roberts and Diane Sawyer.

The crowd was reportedly pleased with the performance, and Whitney was grateful:

She ended the number by thanking the crowd profusely for coming. “God bless you,” she said repeatedly. “You make me feel so good.”

Mellow was critically harshed at this weekend’s “Gathering of the Vibes” concert in Bridgeport, CT when a 29-year-old male concertgoer was found dead near a large communal campsite.

The body was uncovered early Sunday morning at the location of the concert, Seaside Park. Police have indicated that demise of the man appears to be “medical and not criminal,” although witnesses may have seen the body being dumped out of a vehicle shortly before police were called. From the Connecticut Post:

A camper at the site, who asked to be identified only as Matt B., said when he woke up at 5:30 a.m. the campsite was abuzz with rumors. When he wandered out of his camping area, he said he saw the dead body. “Somebody found his body as the sun was coming up,” he said.

Matt B. said the body, which had been covered in a tarp, was swollen and appeared purple and bruised.

One festivalgoer, who would not give his name, said he saw a green Saturn with Pennsylvania license plates dump the body and drive off, which Gaudett would neither confirm nor deny.

An autopsy on the man is scheduled, but his name has not been released pending notification of his next of kin. He was said by police to have been carrying ID from several states, all in the same name (presumably his), none of which are Connecticut.

The incident is the first fatality to occur in the festival’s 14-year history.

There is no doubt that very few enjoyable experiences can equal the memories we might have of our first concert. Mine was Jethro Tull’s War Child Tour at Maple Leaf Garden back in the early 70s.

For the most part the concert experience has never really changed with the band at one end of a huge arena on a gigantic stage with huge towers of speakers and massive light shows. The stage may be as simple as a single platform with the drum kit on a riser, or it can be a Disneyland type where just about anything can happen. But in the end the people who have come to see the show do so from a unequal distances to the stage.

U2 in its upcoming concert tour is looking to change that experience with a unique setup. Starting in Barcelona on June 30th U2 will unveil its 360° concert experience where the band will play on a stage smack in the middle of the arena.

U2’s long time show director, Willie Williams, worked again with architect Mark Fisher to create the innovative 360° design which will gives fans of the band an unobstructed view of the band as it plays. You can see a virtual tour of the stage at 360.U2.com.
