The comedy has been nominated for two Globes – ‘Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy’ and one for Deschanel herself as ‘Best Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy’. Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Deschanel (like the self-consciously oh-so-’wacky’ charmingly kooky character she is) said the experience had been, “like … like, cake and ice cream.” She added:

“I’ve been working a really long time as an actress — I know how special and rare it is to get recognized like this.”

Deschanel plays the titular heroine, a girl who moves in with three guys after a humiliating split from her boyfriend. The actress called her nomination a “total surprise.” But how would her character, Jess, react?

“She would totally trip and fall and walk into a wall. I know that because she’s like me and that’s sort of what I did. We worked a really long day yesterday so I was so tired this morning. I accidentally punched my wrist into a wall. I tend to walk into things when I’m tired I forget where my body ends and the world begins.”

The LA Times also spoke to New Girl‘s creator, Liz Meriwether. Meriwether “semi-based” Jess on her own life, and the nomination has plainly gone to somebody‘s head:

“In a weird way, it’s like a life nomination.”

Yeah. It’s … really not, Liz.

As if CollegeHumor isn’t funny enough, CollegeHumor Media has created what it refers to as a social comedy hub that curates, aggregates, and creates original funny content.

Jest.com will cater to a broader audience between the ages of 18-49. It will also have new and classic full television show episodes like “The Simpsons,” “Saturday Night Live” and “30 Rock.”

CollegeHumor said that they are using an original proprietary technology to gather comedic content from hundreds of sources, enabling Jest.com to pull top comedic content into a comprehensive database of over 50,000 videos.

The first of the “Jest Originals,” topical videos written, created and produced by the Jest.com staff, to debut will be “IKEA Breakup Room” which details a new (fictitious) spot in IKEA stores where couples can fight and, if necessary, receive break-up counseling. Watch it here.

Knowing the brand of comedy of CollegeHumor, the Jest Originals is what’s exciting and should be their best bet. As for their original proprietary technology that gathers comedic content, go hire some high school kids. They share funny videos better than anyone else.

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow is preparing to play a sex addict in a new comedy, quite the departure from her recent Oscar-winning performance and cookbook creating role.

The 38-year-old A-lister has signed on to play Thanks For Sharing, where she’ll star next to Nip/Tuck star Joely Richardson and the always fun to watch Tim Robbins.

The move is being directed by The Kids are All Right screenwriter Stuart Blumberg, marking the first time he’ll step behind the camera.

Here’s the synopsis for the movie from Entertainment Weekly:

Thanks for Sharing tells the story of a group of people who bond over their sex addictions. Patrow’ll play Phoebe, a businesswoman who gets romantically involved with Joey, another addict played by Mark Ruffalo.

If you simply can’t get enough of Ruffalo and Paltrow together they are also already working together on 2012′s superhero flick The Avengers in which Ruffalo plays The Hulk and Paltrow revives her role as Pepper Potts from the Iron Man series.

Speaking of the upcoming sex addicted comedy Blumberg says:

“I couldn’t imagine actors more perfect than Gwyneth, Mark, Tim and Joely for this film,” while adding, “I can’t wait to see them bring these characters to life with their unique and formidable talents.”

There is some sanity in the world after all. Yes folks the totally moronic CBS sitcom that was based on the somewhat humorous messages of the Twitter account of @shitmydadsays has been mercifully cancelled.

While the humor might have been suited for the nearly 2.5 million people who follow the once famous Twitter account the idea that it could be translated into a weekly half hour sitcom was pushing the limits of any sane person’s funny bone.

Granted I have never watched a single episode and never had any intention of doing so but even the basic premise of trying to base any kind of television, or movie, off of someone’s Twitter stream was just plain ridiculous.

As Lauren Dugan points out at All Twitter “it’s a difficult task to turn 140 characters into a long running show” and while I realize that the average length of televisions show have degenerated into commercials versus content (with commercials winning) they are still longer than 140 characters.

The first full length trailer for The Hangover 2 is finally upon us and it brings the same type of humor we hoped to see from the first film.

The movie follows our three main characters (Phil, Stu and Zach) as they engage in the same type of hijinks they experienced in Vegas, but this time in the far off land of Bangkok.

The plot basically follows the same idea from the first movie, with a monkey added into the mix while the crew heads to Bangkok for Stu’s wedding.

For his part, Stu does try to have a safe pre-wedding brunch until things turn out much differently.

‘The Hangover Part II’ stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Jeffrey Tambor, Mike Tyson, Justin Bartha, Paul Giamatti and Ken Jeong and is again directed by Todd Phillips.

Now I gotta be honest here on two counts. One I didn’t think that some sitcom based on a humorous Twitter account would be worth watching and two I am not the biggest fan of William Shatner. However after watching the trailer I might actually have to re-evaluate both of those items.

When people in entertainment die, we tend to have a greater appreciation for their work and hold them in high regard. This certainly holds true for comedians. No disrespect to Demetri Martin, Daniel Tosh and Paul F. Tompkins, who are great living comedians, but there’s a certain feeling you get listening to Mitch Hedberg’s work, which I was turned on to in 2006, one year after his death, which occurred on my birthday, ironically enough. I don’t mean to say that I only feel like Mitch was a great comedian because of his death, but knowing that I can’t hear any more thoughts from his mind is tad bit saddening – a similar experience I had watching Heath Ledger’s performance in The Dark Knight, even though I don’t think I’ve seen any of his work prior to the film.

Imagine my surprise learning that Comedy Central Records will be putting out a new Mitch Hedberg album called “Do you Believe in Gosh?” on September 9th which has material recorded 2 months before his death that was being worked on for an actual album recording.

I was going to include some sort of quote but instead decided to let him do his material justice.
