So said Courtney Love on how she thought Kurt Cobain may perceive his digital likeness in Guitar Hero 5. The above claim was tweeted by Love back in September 2009, but now things are different, it seems. In an interview with the NME, Love says her late husband would find his appearance in Guitar Hero 5 “really funny.”

“What pisses me off the most about it is I think Kurt would be fine with having five Kurt Cobains singing the (Spice Girls) song Wannabe, like, ‘Tell me what you want, what you really really want,’ Love told the music mag. “I think he’d find that really funny.”

Oh great, so you’re dropping that lawsuit against Activision then, Courtney? Oh …

“But at the same time it’s gross what they did. Gwen [Stefani - another stroppy star suing Activision for how her band No Doubt appears in Band Hero] started the lawsuit. I have really good lawyers now and will join that lawsuit.”

So in conclusion, Courtney Love:

1. Thinks Kurt would despise Guitar Hero 5.
2. Thinks Kurt would find Guitar Hero 5 really funny.
3. Is still suing Activision, despite signing away Cobain’s likeness on a contract.
4. Has a coke mountain that’s looking a little low.

Remember the fuss kicked up over Kurt Cobain’s appearance in Guitar Hero 5?

The late Nirvana frontman’s avatar could be used to ‘perform’ any song in the popular music game, leading to numerous YouTube videos depicting Cobain singing inappropriate guff, like Bon Jovi. Eventually, Courtney Love caught the scent of money, and threatened to sue Activision (despite signing a contract), while Cobain’s former bandmates publicly tutted from a distance.

Now, publisher Activision is having said YouTube clips taken down, presumably in a desperate, revisionist bid to save face, or maybe just calm the frothing Love down. The heroic chap who uploaded the videos in the first place, one corporalgregg3, has paid the ULTIMATE PRICE. Well, he’s had his YouTube account shut down, anyway:

“Yeah, my last account was permanently disabled due to (I think) Activision. Right before my account was shut down, the Kurt Cobain vid was removed due to copyright claim by Activision Games Inc. I will be continuing with this account so whatever f—k it all.”

Courtney Love has hopped back on the Crazy Train, ranting at Activision for its portrayal of Kurt Cobain in Guitar Hero 5. That is, the portrayal that she approved.

There’s been an outcry about Cobain’s appearance in the game, and not just because you can watch the Nirvana frontman’s avatar sing along to Flavor Flav. Commentators have argued that Cobain’s memory has been exploited and soiled by his inclusion in a product that he would have had little interest in endorsing.

Getting him in the game reportedly took three years of negotiations, with Love, Universal Publishing, and (former Nirvana drummer) Dave Grohl all involved. Now, Love denies (via her Twitter feed) that she approved the Cobain avatar, while exhibiting the spelling and grammatical prowess of a drunk manatee:

“FOR THE RECORD I DID NOT APPROVE KURTS AVATAR FOR GUYITARHERO5. i think Kurt would despise this game alone let alone this avatar”

This directly contradicts a statement made by Activision’s Tim Riley, from last month:

“Courtney supplied us with photos and videos and knew exactly what she wanted Kurt to look like. She picked the wardrobe and hair style, which turned out to be the ‘Teen Spirit’ look, then we went back and forth over changes – some subtle, some not so subtle.”

Alas, it sounds like Love will not be deterred in her attempts to take Activision down. Labelling the publisher a “bully,” she adds:

“WE are going to sue the s[***] out of ACtivision we being the Trust the Estate the LLC the various LLCs Cobain Enterprises”

Man, who knew selling off your deceased anti-establishment husband’s image for use in a multi-billion dollar videogame franchise could end badly? Apart from everyone over five years old, obv.

I’ve already posted about Kurt Cobain’s posthumous appearance in Guitar Hero 5. Not to speak for Cobain, but I can’t see him endorsing the franchise were he alive. Alas, it turns out I hadn’t seen the worst of the Nirvana frontman’s creepy presence in the game … until now.

Giant Bomb user skrutop put together this video of virtual Kurt Cobain bopping along to a Bon Jovi song, surreally rapping out a Flavor Flav track, playing between two other Kurt Cobains, singing alongside some of the cartoony Xbox Avatars, and, well, you get the point. It’s just so … ugh. Couldn’t they at least have restricted the use of the polygonal Cobain to Nirvana songs?

Hope it was worth the money, Courtney and Dave!

Kurt Cobain in Guitar Hero 5 … singing Flavor Flav is a post from: The Inquisitr

Activision has decided it could shift a few more copies of Guitar Hero 5 by including a virtual Kurt Cobain, and I know what you’re thinking: that could be the classiest damn move you’ve ever heard of.

Cobain will be appearing in the game after three years of complex negotiations between Activision, Courtney Love (who controls Cobain’s estate), and Universal Publishing (who control Nirvana’s catalog). Love apparently had some input into the appearance of Cobain’s avatar, which sports the singer’s famous cardigan-and-”Frog”-t-shirt look. They still haven’t got the mouth animations quite right.

As this newly released Cobain trailer shows, you’ll be able to thrash your way through “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and a live version of “Lithium,” all while looking forward to the inevitable Michael Jackson appearance in Guitar Hero 6.

Google has announced a new range templates for Google Docs. As the video above shows, one template can be used to manage wedding invitation lists. Yes, Google Docs can be used to manage wedding invitation lists. Hmmm….Google Docs can be used to manage wedding invitation lists. Sorry for repeating myself, but I’m overawed by the classy demonstration.

Maybe I’m not geeky enough, but the idea of using Google Docs as a tool to managing wedding invites…but better still, using a template on Google Docs to get people to input their details so invites can then be sent out, doesn’t do it for me. But then again, I also eloped when I got married so I could avoid things like using Google Docs to manage wedding invites (not that Google Docs existed in 1999, it would have been Office 97…but I don’t remember Microsoft pushing this sort of use).

The official, and even more classy post from Google is here, where they list wedding planners with petrol (gas) mileage calculators and photo albums. Because nothing says use me for your wedding than a template offered next to a mileage calculator
