Another chupracabra sighting has come out of- where else?- Texas, where a young teenage boy claims to have shot and killed one of the mythical beasts.

13-year-old Carter Pope of La Salle wasn’t unfamiliar with the rumors about chupacabras. But unlike the sighting earlier this month in which a wildlife expert snapped pics but ultimately rejected the notion the animal sighted was a chupacabra, Pope feels pretty sure the animal he hunted and killed was one of the cryptids.

Pope explains what happened:

“It just walked across and started shaking, slowly moving across.

“There was no hair at all on it. Its back legs were shrivelled up. I mean, I honestly think it’s a Chupacabra.”

His dad was skeptical too, but changed his mind when he surveyed his son’s kill:

“I thought, ‘I’m dreaming or this kid is crazy, but probably a little bit of both’.

I know it looks like nothing I have ever personally seen before.”

The jury is still out on what species of animal definitively fell prey to Pope’s mad hunting skills out in the prairies of La Salle, but skin samples from the unidentified creature have been sent for testing to determine if chupacabres really are roaming the wilds of Texas. Do you believe?

Yet another ‘chupacabra sighting’ in Texas has folks posing the age old cryptozoology question yet again: is it really a chupacabra or a fox/goat/wolf with mange?

Interestingly enough this time around, the alleged chupacabra spotter- who just so happens to be a retired wildlife biologist- says what he saw wasn’t actually a chupacabra. Jack Crabtree worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for well over two decades, and he and wife Linda spotted the mysterious creature first on July 4th, and then again on July 6th.

Crabtree scoffs:

“It was immediately clear to me it was a coyote with a severe case of mange. It was obviously sick… I’ve been amazed with the fascination people have with chupacabras and other mythical animals… I’m really not a believer in chupacabras or Bigfoot or the Abominable Snowman.”

The retired animal expert says he passed the pictures the Crabtrees took of the ‘chupacabra’ over to a local paper, where the images ran on the front page. The whole incident is at least an upgrade from the last major chupacabra sighting, during which the witness cornered an unidentified animal and beat it to death.

I’m no cryptozoologist, but I can’t be the only one who thinks this thing kind of looks like the Montauk Monster.

Hunters in the Sichuan province of China are reported to have trapped the strange animal in the picture above, but no one seems to know what it might be. The news has dubbed the creature an “Oriental Yeti,” but aren’t Yetis supposed to be like, all giant and abominable?

Hunter Lu Chin spoke about the “yeti’s” behavior to press:

“It looks a bit like a bear but it doesn’t have any fur and it has a tail like a kangaroo.”

“It also does not sound like a bear – it has a voice more like a cat and it is calling all the time – perhaps it is looking for the rest of its kind or maybe it’s the last one?

“There are local legends of a bear that used to be a man and some people think that’s what we caught.”

The Oriental Yeti is now en route to Beijing so scientists can DNA test it and try to determine its origin.

Last summer, the “Montauk Monster” pics that circulated the web were cause for much speculation and commentary.

Cryptozoologists nearly wet themselves, some New Yorkers thought it might be a marketing stunt and skeptics said that the dead creature was a decomposed raccoon or possibly an abused dog. (Ties were spotted on the animals paws, leading some to believe the real monster was someone who’d drowned the creature on purpose.) The odd cryptid has surfaced since then (like the chupacabra-sicle in Texas), and now some teenagers in Panama have carried on the “if you can’t identify it, beat it to death” philosophy that does kind of make it difficult to identify strange creatures in the short term.

Central American channel Telemetro has images posted of the strange creature, which shares a pink, rubbery skin texture with the Montauk Monster. Also similar is the weird, Renaissance painting style death pose, although the painful cause of death alleged for this animal is possibly responsible.

Thanks to Google Translate, we can read the boys’ account in their own (sort of) words:

As recounted one of them, they suddenly saw the creature emerging from a cave located behind the water jet. At her appearance and it began to climb over the rocks to one of them panicked and began to thrash him and throw sticks, getting killed, after which they threw into the water and ran.

A man in Texas believes (or wants you to believe) that the mythical and elusive chupacabra (a word that breaks down en Espanol to mean “goat sucker” because it allegedly drains livestock of blood) lies in repose in his freezer.

Chupacabras are cryptids, and most scientists classify their existence firmly as urban or local legends. Of course, that doesn’t stop the beasts from cropping up in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Maine and apparently Texas. The man claims the animal wandered into an acquaintance’s barn, and not knowing what the creature was, they decided to poison it- as you do to strange animals or people on your property.

The animal is described as having gray, leathery skin and unusually long front legs. Witnesses claim it is unlike any animal known to be native to Texas, and the man in possession of the alleged chupacabra hopes to display it in a museum one day. As of now, not surprisingly, the frozen animal has not been positively identified as any kind of strange new animal, and existence of chupacabras is still not confirmed.

A Dewitt County, Texas Sheriff’s Deputy has recorded what is believe to be a Chupacabra in the wild. The animal filmed is roughly the size of a coyote, but gallops.

According to Wikipedia, a Chupacabra is a cryptid rumored to inhabit parts of the Americas. The name comes from the animal’s reported habit of attacking and drinking the blood of livestock, especially goats. Early sighting date to 1990 in Puerto Rico, and have creature has since been reported as far north as Maine, and as far south as Chile. It allegedly hops like a kangaroo, has spines like a porcupine, and fangs like a vampire bat.

None of those three descriptions fits the video above (nor the artist rendering on Wikipeda, which looks like an Alien), but without doubt what ever is recorded in the video above is one strange looking creature.
