Three years ago Chris Brown attacked then-girlfriend Rihanna on their way to a pre-Grammy party, that assault led to five years of probation after being charged with a felony attack. Now three years later Chris Brown is returning to the show that almost ended his career.

Brown was unofficially announced as the Grammy’s newest performer on Monday night by an unidentified source.

Since watching his career nearly hit rock bottom Chris Brown has bounced back with the multi-hit album ”F.A.M.E. (Forgiving All My Enemies)” which has received three Grammy nodes including best R&B album.  Brown also has nominations in ”Look at Me Now” which which is also nominated for best rap song and best rap performance.

Also performing on Grammy night is Rihanna who has been nominated for four Grammy’s including album of the year for her platinum selling album “Loud.”

Chris Brown has not attended the Grammy awards ceremony since his attack against Rihanna in 2009, even after he was nominated for three awards in 2011.

In February 2011 a judge eased the restraining order against Chris Brown and Rihanna’s lawyer said she didn’t object to the stay-away provisions being halted. The stay-away restriction was lessened from 150 feet to just 30 feet.

CBS will air the Grammy Awards live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

I wonder if there will be any awkward moments shared between the former power couple at the show.

After a phenomenal year for singer Chris Brown, including Billboard 200 topping album F.A.M.E. and a successful tour under the same moniker, the artist’s management team, headed by the shrewd Tina Davis, has declared that Rihanna’s former boxing partner will be doing zero interviews in 2012.

Zippo. Not a one.

According to Davis, the management-imposed radio silence is for Brown’s own good, saying that their focus is, “not have him do interviews but to concentrate on performing and recording”. She didn’t mention it having anything to do with his May appearance on Good Morning America, when he threw a chair through a window after a question about his ex, Rihanna. Brown, then in the midst of promoting the successful F.A.M.E., caught a bunch of bad press for the stunt, and with his new album Fortune coming soon, Davis is taking a pragmatic’s approach by putting Brown in detention.

“We’re not trying to be rude, selfish or disrespectful to anyone in any way,” she said. “If people are going to judge anything, judge him for his talent. He signed up to sing and entertain. Not to talk about his personal life.”

Other tantrum-prone stars have done the same. Kanye West put on a self-imposed press lockout after several of his own controversies, though he does use Twitter to otherwise vent his frustrations. Brown may be poised to do the same, though he hasn’t tweeted since New Year’s Eve, when he said:

“I LOVE Team Breezy unconditionally! Goodbye 2011. Let 2012 bring as much peace positivity and happiness as possible!”

Now, it’s only been a few days, but maybe Davis has him on a social media allowance and he just throws it away on Googling himself or playing Farmville. Regardless, we won’t be hearing anything but music from Brown in the coming year.

With a critically lauded CD released and his career heading in an upwards direction following the Rihanna incident R&B singer Chris Brown took some time on Wednesday to announce North America tour dates for his F.A.M.E. tour.

Brown, 22, announced on Twitter:

Without a doubt, the uncontested star of the 2011 BET Awards was Chris Brown, who took home five trophies, including male R&B artist, video of the year and best collaboration for his song “Look at Me Now” featuring Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes.

Later on in the show, Justin Bieber made an appearance along side of Nicki Minaj — who took home the prize for best female hip-hop artist — to present the best male hip-hop artist award.

Before he announced the winner (which was Kayne West), the biebs flirted with 26 year old Minaj saying: “So next year I’ll be 18. What’s up?” Nicki responded by asking if he was allowed to drive yet and when he confirmed that he could, she threw in the suggestive question, “Can you handle curves?”. Not missing a beat, Bieber — smiling widely — said “Yes I can!”

Near the end of the show, Queen Latifah, who also hosted the 2010 BET awards show, honored Gil-Scott Heron — the famous black musician/poet who died earlier this year — by reciting his famous poem “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.” Latifah boldly proclaimed, “the revolution will not be televised. No, the revolution will be live.”

Joe Jonas officially started his solo music career earlier this morning when his single “See No More” hit the airwaves on Chicago’s 96.3 FM.

“It’s exciting, you know? I mean, having my brothers’ support in this whole project is the biggest thing for me and the fact that they’re loving the music and everything,” the singer told morning DJs J & Julian about his solo venture. “Being onstage by myself, you know? It will be different for sure. I know there’s going to be that little bit of jitters that I’ll have to get out of me that are just going to be there.”

In the track, which also features Chris Brown, the 21 year old Jonas sings of heartache that was inflicted by an ended relationship. In a recent interview with People Magazine Joe explained:

“I wanted to be really honest with what I wrote about, whether good or bad, I think it’s a coming of age record to it has a feel you can play in the club, but also there are songs that I think are heartfelt. It’s a whole new experience for me. I mean, a good experience, because I’m able to write songs that I have been wanting to write for a long time. It’s completely brand new to me.”

The album, which remains untitled at this point, is scheduled to drop on September 6, 2011.

Chris Brown and Rihanna may no longer be dating after Brown attacked her, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t trying to make amends and the proof is in the Twitter.

It was a fan who first realized that the former power-couple were following each other, they asked Rihanna if that meant they were getting back together to which Rihanna tweeted:

“its fu**in twitter, not the alter! calm down.”

A judge had placed a restraining order on the couple, forcing them to keep their distance, however that order was recently removed and the pop singers both began following each others Twitter accounts soon afterwards.

Brown, who has struggled professionally since the whole Rihanna beat-down incident, has not performed at such a high-profile level since his arrest. The LA Times speculates that he may have been putting it on for sympathy:

Chris Brown’s performance at the BET Awards was his first major music gig in a long time. He was picked to perform because he’s widely considered to be a protégé of Michael Jackson’s and there was enormous curiosity over how he’d do — and be greeted by the audience — when he took the stage. If his career is truly over, he might not get a chance like this again to gain sympathetic attention.

Chris Brown began his first day of community service in his hometown of Richmond, Virginia earlier today.

According to a statement from local authorities: “Brown begins his 8-hour work day at 8:00 AM when a Department of Corrections bus picks him up, along with 30-40 other offenders. Brown will wear a reflective orange vest and pick up trash and litter along highways and roads. He’ll also have to trim brush along medians, remove gang graffiti from the VCU campus, and wash the inside and outside of law enforcement vehicles.”

Brown didn’t beat any women in the vicinity, but he was watched by fans and the paparazzi being abusive to plants, pulling out weeds and picking up trash all while a crowd stood by and watched.

Despite a restraining order saying that he had to stay well away, Chris Brown risked jail time on the weekend by reuniting with Rihanna in a New York hotel.

According to the NY Post, the two spent the weekend at the Trump International Hotel & Tower “under a cloak of secrecy.”

They spent the next two days coming and going in separate chauffeured vehicles from the underground garage of the 52-story Columbus Circle building. The two appear to have taken great measures to avoid public exposure, including the use of decoy vehicles to throw off reporters and photographers. As of last night, the secretive performers hadn’t been seen together.

The reunion comes less than a week after Brown turned to YouTube to make a public apology over the beating.

Rihanna and Chris Brown are considering asking the court to remove a restraining order banning Brown from seeing Rihanna.

The current restraining order means that Brown must stay 50 yards away from Rihanna, or 10 yards if they are at the same function, and is meant to protect Rihanna from harassment or another beating at the hands of Brown.

However it would appear that at least to some degree, the pair are back together. Reports suggest that they’ve become friendly again, although insiders say it’s only a friendship at this stage.

“After (the court proceeding) Ri and Chris talked on the phone for almost an hour and really worked at becoming friends. They’re solid now” a source told multiple outlets. The same source though noted that there was no romance in the air: “They aren’t looking to hook back up again. They’re both moving on and going their separate ways.”

Chris Brown appeared in court today in Los Angeles and pled guilty to assaulting Rihanna.

Chris Brown has been sentenced to 180 days hard labor in a Virginia prison camp and 5 years probation for his assault on former girlfriend and R&B singer, Rihanna.

According to RollingStone:

Brown’s legal team, led by lawyer Mark Geragos, managed to reach a plea bargain with the prosecution. After pleading guilty to an assault charge, Brown will avoid jail time by spending 180 days performing community labor in his native Virginia; he will also attend a domestic violence counseling program, both TMZ and the Los Angeles Times report.

One month after Rihanna was scheduled to perform her first public concert since her alleged assault by former boyfriend, Chris Brown, the show has been canceled.

21 year old R&B star Rihanna had been scheduled to perform later in May in the United Arab Emirates. But Yassin Matbouly of Vibe Entertainment Management Agency said in a statement on Monday that Rihanna is not yet ready to return to the stage.

The concert, which would have likely been held in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, was scheduled for May 28, the same day the next court hearing will be held in the U.S. for Chris Brown.

Rihanna’s management team and Vibe Entertainment are considering having her perform in the UAE sometime later this year, possibly in the fall.

Chris Brown is back in the dating game, reportedly having taken up with Erica Jackson after finally being dumped by Rihanna

Erica Jackson is a student at the University of Mary Washington, and the pair originally met years ago in Virginia. Not a lot in known about her, but they are said to have been “speeding a lot of time together” with things heating up “over the last two weeks.”

The NY Daily News reports that while Jackson is “no Rihanna,” the general consensus among his friends and family is that the new girl is going to be good for him in the long run. “She’s more of a plain Jane — cute though,” a source told the paper “At the very least, she’s helping to ease Chris’ pain over Rihanna. He was mad in love with that girl.”

Chris Brown has pleaded not guilty to charges that he assaulted and made criminal threats to Rihanna.

After Brown entered his not guilty plea, he lawyer Mark Geragos told the judge that the defense was awaiting a review of more evidence from the prosecution. What that evidence is was not made clear.

Rihanna was not required to be in court, and was represented by her attorney Donald Etra. On speculation that Rihanna might refuse to testify, Etra told the media “Nothing’s changed with regard to Rihanna’s stance toward this case … She will testify if subpoenaed and will do everything that’s required of her to do.”

According to People, legal experts suggest the case will likely end with Brown accepting a plea deal on lesser charges, with anywhere from a jail sentence of 30 to 180 days in addition to three to five years of probation.

I may be no legal expert, but given the photographic evidence, it’s staggering how he can seriously plead not guilt, unless of course he’s playing for lesser charges as part of a deal.

Dance group The Smoke Jumpers may be fairly unknown, but they’ll soon be well remembered as being the first group to release a song about Chris Brown beating Rihanna.

New Smoke Jumpers song “My Flow So Tight” has in its chorus “Chris Brown should get his ass kicked ” and is getting strong airplay across the United States.

Other parts of the song include “Boy hits girl/Boy should be taken down/No matter who’s around…All the money in the world but that’s no excuse/Career suicide, yo, here’s the noose.”
