China has shut down 91 websites since Thursday as authorities crack down on online porn, and unlawful political speech, Chinese Government media has reported.

Most sites targeted were offering porn, but among the sites shut was Bullog.cn, a political blog portal on the grounds that the site contained an “amount of political harmful information.” The site included users who had were signatories of the pro-democracy “08 Charter.”

The new crackdown on specific sites follows a warning given by the Chinese Government to Google and other leading search engines about their indexing, and suggested hosting of pornographic material.

Porn is illegal in China despite it being freely available both offline and online.
