In Charlize Theron’s most recent role she plays a mean schoolgirl in Young Adult and in celebration of that movie she recalls her own high school days in which she says she never fit in, especially with boys at her school.

Theron tells PEOPLE:

“I wore really nerdy glasses because I was blind as could be and the boys didn’t like [me]” and “I didn’t have any boyfriends, but lots of crushes.”

Charlize goes on to explain that she wasn’t part of the popular crowd but that she was “obsessed” with the most popular girl in school. Joking about her obsession she reveals “you would go to jail for that stuff [obsession] today.”

While you wouldn’t guess it based on her appearance as a major movie star these days she says that her classmates bullied her because she didn’t have the perfect haircut or the right clothes.

Theron goes on to tell PEOPLE:

“I actually got a lot of the mean girl stuff from the ages of 7 to 12. I was pretty much a mess in primary school … But I got that out of my system by the time I got to high school and was more immune to all of that stuff.”

Not fitting in is the curse of many Hollywood talents and it’s also the thing that often propels them to the top of their craft as it has done for Theron, perhaps it was an even trade. Are you surprised that Charlize Theron was teased by her fellow classmates?

As the Evil Queen, Theron opens the clip with a chilling narration, uttering:

“Do you hear that? It’s the sound of battles fought, and lives lost. It once pained me to know that I am the cause of such despair.”

“But now their cries give me strength,” Theron narrates as the scene cuts to her sucking the life from a hapless girl before throwing her mercilessly to the ground. “Beauty is my power,” she adds.

After she utters the timeless words — “Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who is fairest of them all?” — the Queen discovers – to no-one’s surprise – that the pretty Snow White (played by Stewart) is her adversary set to bring her down.

Snow White and the Huntsman, currently in production, is slated to hit theaters June 1, 2012.

“Marriage was never something that was important, I don’t know the reason for that. Some would say that it’s because I came from a very troubled marriage, my parents did not have a good marriage, but I don’t think it’s that,” said Theron.

The word “troubled” would be an understatement as a quick look at the actress’ past reveals that Theron’s mother shot and killed her alcoholic father in apparent self defense when Charlize was only 16 years old.

In addition to sharing her thoughts on long-term relationships, 35 year-old Theron also discussed her support for marriage equality rights for same-sex couples.

“When government starts to tell us who can love and what is good love… I do have a problem with that,” Theron said. “I do have a problem with the fact that our government hasn’t stepped up enough to make this federal, to make [gay marriage] legal. I think everybody has that right.”

Theron, who received an Academy Award in 2004 for her portrayal of serial killer Aileen Wuornos in “Monster,” split from her Head in the Clouds co-star and boyfriend of 10 years, Irish actor Stewart Townsend, in 2010.

The Daily Mail is reporting that Charlize Theron and longtime boyfriend Stuart Townsend have split, although Theron denies the couple have parted ways.

Theron, 34, and Townsend, 37, have been an item for nine years. Much has been made of the relative success of their careers, as Theron has featured in many high profile roles and won an Oscar, and Townsend’s work has been far lower in profile. The Mail quotes Theron on the effect of the disparity on their relationship:

Charlize and Townsend met in 2001 when they co-starred in the thriller Trapped. Her career subsequently took off, thanks to films such as Hancock and Monster, for which she won the Best Actress Oscar, as well as a £10million deal to be the ‘face’ of the Christian Dior perfume J’Adore.

But her boyfriend has enjoyed less success, with credits including a supporting role in The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen and a starring role in the American television series Night Stalker, which was cancelled after just six episodes.

Charlize – whose latest film The Road opened in the UK this month – once said: ‘Living with another actor, you always feel guilty if things are going your way and it’s not going that way for the other person.’

Sources say the actress has been spotted in public several times since Christmas without her “commitment ring.”
