Car crash tests are usually done at the speed of 40 miles per hour. What if you take it a notch higher, actually more than a notch higher, say at 120 miles per hour.

Engineers set up a Ford Focus with a winch, a mechanical device to pull in the car at 120 miles per hour. As the winch was activated, the car went full speed head on to the concrete wall.

The result: A Ford Focus that is totally unrecognizable after the high-speed collision.

Holy crap, is there anything Nintendo’s mighty little handheld can’t do? If it’s not saving some kid’s damn eyesight, it’s rescuing people from vehicle wrecks. Whadda guy.

Here’s how the story goes: at roughly 10pm on Sunday, just as night set in, a family was involved in a car crash in Victoria, Australia. In an attempt to avoid a kangaroo (possibly the most Australian way to crash a car), the vehicle ended up rolled on its roof, with mother Kathleen trapped in the wreck as her three kids and her partner crawled to safety.

Unable to find his mother’s cellphone to ring the amberlamps, seven-year-old Christopher used the illuminated screens of his Nintendo DS to locate the lost phone and get help. Which is definitely PROOF that GAMES SAVE LIVES. Maybe.

Anyway, a happy ending came of it, as you can see above, and now Christopher, who’s bound to grow up to be freaking awesome with a name like that, has been put up for a Community Hero Award. And the heroic Nintendo DS? Just doin’ its job, ma’am.

A woman who missed Air France flight 447 has been killed in a car crash.

Johanna Ganthaler and her husband had been on holiday in Brazil and arrived late at Rio de Janeiro airport, missing their flight back to France, the very same Air France flight 447 that crashed into the Atlantic just hours later. Ganthaler and her husband, from the Bolzano-Bozen province in Italy, managed to get another flight back to France that same day.

Recently, Johanna Ganthaler was killed in a car crash in Austria when her car veered across a road in Kufstein and into the path of an onconing truck. Her husband who was in the car with her escaped with serious injuries.

A lot of people believe that life balances itself out over time – that the higher the good times in life, the lower the lows are. That would appear to be true in this case.
