Franchise Sues Burger King Over $1 Double Cheeseburger, Claims It Costs $1.10 To Make

South Bend, IN (AHN) – A South Bend franchise of Burger King sued the company on Friday for introducing a $1 double cheeseburger that caused it to lose 10 cents for each burger sold.

Dan Fitzpatrick’s lawsuit said it cost him $1.10 to produce a double cheeseburger and the lower price of the mother company’s burger caused his franchises to lose money. Fitzpatrick runs 115 Burger King outlets..

Fitzpatrick claimed Burger King franchisees rejected the $1 double cheeseburger twice but the company pushed through with it. He cited the franchise agreement as prohibiting the corporation from setting the price.

The burger company considers the lawsuit without merit.

Yesterday I wrote about how Japan Burger King stores were offering their Windows 7 Whopper, a seven beef patty burger that’s 5 inches tall and sure to give you a heart attack. Now the first “victim” of the burger has been filmed.

It was one thing to see a picture of this monster sized burger, it’s a whole new experience to see it in all it’s live glory.

Japan Burger King Offers Windows 7 Whopper. Bring On The Heart Attacks

Oh Japan, how I love your ability to create the most insanely odd advertising campaigns of all time. But seriously, a Windows 7 Whopper? Why on earth does anyone need a 5 inch tall burger with seven patties of beef? Then again the¥777 (or $8.55) isn’t a bad deal for such a mammoth heart attack waiting to happen.

The burger which was announced today is available for the next seven day in celebration of Microsoft’s release of the Windows 7 operating system.

I should also note that only 30 customers per day can take advantage of the ¥777 price, each customer after that point will pay ¥1,450 ($17.10), which totally doesn’t go with the “number 7 theme.” that they seem to have going for the first 30 customers each day.

Quick tip: bring your own bread and make 7 burgers for the price of three or four. [Electronista]

No shoes, no service rule gets barefoot baby booted from Burger King (VIDEO)

Two women with a 6 month old baby tried to order food at a Burger King restaurant but when the manager saw the baby was barefoot, he asked them to leave citing health concerns.

Six month old Kaylie Frederich was in her grandmother’s arms as they approached the counter at Burger King in Sunset Hills, MO. The store manager happened to be standing near the cash register where they were about to place their order with the server and saw the baby had bare feet. The manager told the women they could order the food to go, but they couldn’t sit at the restaurant because of health regulations.

The two women put socks on the baby’s feet but that still wasn’t enough. When the women insisted that the rule shouldn’t apply to infant babies who couldn’t even walk and whose feet would never touch the floor during their visit, the manager threatened to call police. The family left the Burger King, and went straight to CNN with their story. Watch the video below:

Burger King beats Quizno’s in grossest ad insinuation involving a sandwich

Well, perhaps it’s a tie.

First we had an anthromorphic oven begging a Quizno’s employee named Scott to “put it in me.” Now Burger King has joined the sandwiches equal sex brigade with a series of ads featuring the most obvious BJ metaphor I’ve ever seen in fast food. Forgetting the fact that Quizno’s sandwiches taste like toasted vomit, this is just gross.

Bizarre: New Burger King commercial marries SpongeBob and square butts

A new advertising campaign from Burger King that marries SpongeBob and women with square buts hasn’t been well received in all quarters.

The ad campaign sees The Burger King “King” singing “I love square butts” surrounded by women shaking their square butts in an effort to promote a Burger King Kids Meal that comes with a SpongeBob SquarePants toy. Lyrics include the line “I wanna git wit’cha, cause you’re makin’ me richer.”

Do-gooder groups have come out and accused Burger King off sexualizing children meals. “Nickelodeon and Burger King have partnered to produce a new, highly sexualized, ad for a Burger King SpongeBob SquarePants Kids Meal. It is harmful enough when a beloved media icon advertises junk food to children, but selling Kids Meals by associating a beloved, male character like SpongeBob with lechery shows how little either company cares about the wellbeing of the children they target.” claim the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood group.

The ad is questionable for a product aimed at children: I’m not making a moral judgment there, only an observation based on pitch, after all little kids who like SpongeBob aren’t exactly going to relate to dancing girls (and yes, I have a 6 year old.) But more than anything is just the sheer bizarre nature of the ad: whacked is the right word.

Next time you have a rough day at the office, Burger King hopes you’ll cozy up to one of its new Whopper Bars set to open around America. Just don’t stay for too many rounds, or you might regret it the next day.

The Whopper Bar: All Beef

To be clear, the Whopper Bar won’t actually be serving alcohol — but it will be serving plenty of beef. The Burger King venture will offer Whoppers, Double Whoppers, and Steakhouse XT burgers, along with new Bourbon Whoppers, Three-Cheese Steakhouse XT burgers, and Pepper Bacon Steakhouse XT burgers. Each will come with options for 22 different toppings. Among the choices: guacamole, smoked bacon, or steak sauce.

A “Contemporary” Edge

The first Whopper Bar opens today at the Universal CityWalk in Orlando. Its look is totally different from the typical BK, as seen in the photo above: The bar boasts an open kitchen, a bar-like countertop, and a whole new color scheme. Employees will also wear different uniforms, matching the red, black, and gray restaurant design. Burger King hopes the updated take will give its brand a new “contemporary” edge, representatives say.

Whopper Bar Plans

Burger King is planning six more Whopper Bars around the globe by the end of 2009, with the next set to open in Munich over the summer. Los Angeles, New York and Singapore will soon see locations as well. Eventually, the company says it could open as many as 500 of the units around the world in everywhere from stadiums to casinos and cruise ships.

I’ve been waiting forever for this moment. I’ve finally found a way to frighten the ever loving crap out of my enemies AND offer them delicious artery-clogging fast food at the same time! I can now slip into their beds in the middle of the night and then try to silence their waking screams by offering them piping hot Croissan’Wiches! I can stow away in the back seat of their cars and spring up while they’re driving to work, shoving a mouth-watering TenderCrisp Bacon Cheddar Deluxe in their face!

My most successful scare to date involved the rotten jerk that my wife (the tramp) had an affair with. Dude was taking out the trash, not expecting a thing. When he opened the lid of the big trashcan in his garage, I popped out with a plate of savory BK Stackers. Because of his heart condition, he was unable to enjoy the scrumptious delicacy I had offered him…the poor guy. I was able to avoid the cops by leaping from the shadows and spraying them in the eyes with a healthy dose of Zesty Onion Ring Dippin’ Sauce, then fleeing the scene of the crime with a kingly cackle. Don’t go thinking that I’m completely insensitive. I did attend the guy’s funeral and my wife is now extremely sorry she cheated on me. Sounds like a win-win situation to me!

Burger King Facebook App Offers Free Whopper for Dumping 10 Friends

Taste is something Burger King isn’t famous for, and I’m not just talking about their food. Fresh from the offensive Whopper Virgins campaign, Burger King’s latest crass attempt to sell Hamburgers is a Facebook application that gives users a free Whooper if they dump 10 of their Facebook friends.

Whopper Sacrifice explains it as follows:

What would you do for a free WHOPPER®? Would you insult an elected official? Would you do a naked handstand? Would you go so far as to turn your back on friendship? Install WHOPPER® Sacrifice on your Facebook profile and we’ll reward you with a free flame-broiled WHOPPER® Sandwich when you sacrifice 10 of your friends*.

The limit is one Whopper per person, so you can’t defriend 20 people and get two free Whoppers.

According to Facebook, the application has 15,802 active monthly users, and 212 fans.

Yeah, because snubbing 10 people makes for a great burger promotion. Crass and lame.

Smell Like A Whopper, Burger King Launches Body Spray

OMG. Just when you thought Burger King couldn’t get any more way out there, they have launched a body spray for their customers called Flame. It’s limited edition, so get in quick if you want your significant other, father or other male figure to smell like a whopper.

According to the press release, “The King is setting hearts ablaze for the holidays with his new scent of choice. FLAME™, a new men’s body spray by Burger King Corp., features the scent of seduction with the hint of flame-broiled meat. A favorite of the King, FLAME™ is available for purchase for a limited time at select Ricky’s retailers in-store or online.”

Whopper Virgins: it doesn’t get much more offensive than this

Burger King will debut a new “documentary” later this week called Whopper Virgins, where a documentary crew takes Whopper Hamburgers to obscure locations for a taste test.

The “documentary” is being filmed by the now officially the mother of all sellouts “award winning director” Stacy Peralta and includes the use of “13 planes, 2 dog sleds and 1 helicopter.”

If visiting poor people in remote locations, some who would be at best surviving on below poverty levels and throwing a burger in their faces isn’t bad enough, it gets better, because they also ask the Whopper Virgins to compare the taste of the Whopper to a McDonalds Big Mac as well.

It’s hard to place exactly where this begins on the level of wrongness. The pipe flute South American music on the website, the pictures of people with horse and carts on one side, and on the other someone eating a Whopper. Hey, but that’s ok, because the testing was “done by independent 3rd party testers.” I think I’m going to throw up now.

If you can’t handle the pain of viewing the website, here’s some promotional images for the “documentary.”

Update: we now have confirmation that the “documentary” is being promoted through a TV ad campaign. We’re trying to track down who is hosting the site, but what we can work out is that it’s hosted on a PR company server, and the site shares hosting with Bayer and Florida Area Audi dealers.

Burger King Serves Up Nudity

Burger King is serving up more than just burgers and fries these days. One location is serving up naked people in soapy sinks.

The fast food chain has fired a worker who bathed in a utility sink — and videotaped it — in Ohio. Here’s the most disturbing part, though: The sink is used to clean the restaurant’s equipment. Would you like some naked guy’s germs with that?

For what it’s worth, the non-employee-of-the-month apparently was taking the dip to celebrate his birthday. He posted the video to his MySpace page, though it’s (thankfully) no longer there.
