Alexis Stewart, daughter of domestic diva Martha Stewart says her book Whateverland: Learning to Live Here only pokes fun at her mom for the sake of being funny.

The 46-year-old sat down with Today.com on Tuesday and she says that the claim about how there was “never any food in the house” was “suppose to be funny.”

In her book Alexis writes:

“If I didn’t do something perfectly, I had to do it again… I grew up with a glue gun pointed at my head.”

According to Alexis:

“The book is supposed to be funny and everyone can make funny stories up about their families.”

‘There were no glue guns… I wish there had been, it would have been more fun… She worked hard and was a perfectionist  and I don’t have a problem with that.’

When asked if the book played off her mothers domestic image and showed that she isn’t what she portrays Alexis responded:

‘Not at all … I think that fact is…First of all it’s not a book about my mother. It’s about growing up, what happened or didn’t happen and being comfortable with all that.’ She went on to insist that their was “no dirt.”

When asked to explain her books comments that there was never any prepared food in the house and instead only ingredients which weren’t accessible for a child Alexis says:

‘Well, a little bit, my mother was a caterer and she worked very hard, we were not wealthy… and so there were ingredients.

‘Was it annoying? Yeah. Did I get to go to my friends’ houses and eat junk food? Sure. And I’m a great cook. And, guess what? There’s no prepared food in my house.’

Last week Martha herself called the book “hilarious” and “enlightening.”

Sounds to me like Martha threatened to get her old friends from the “yard” to set the story straight if Alexis didn’t do it first.

Would it surprise you to learn that Martha Stewart isn’t the happy domestic diva she portrays herself as.
