The music of Bob Dylan will soon be featured in a new album with proceeds from the project going to support Amnesty International.

Feature covers of Dylan songs from some of today’s best selling artists the album titled Chimes of Freedom: Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years Of Amnesty International will go on sale January 30, 2012.

Among the LP’s singers are Adele, Miley Cyrus, Ke$ha, Maroon 5 and the Dave Matthews Band.

The large collection of music is being delivered in a three-disc compilation with all proceeds going to Amnesty International.

Bob Dylan recently placed paintings from his journeys across Asia on display at New York’s Gagosian gallery and now it turns out “The Asia Series” may actually contain line-by-line mimicry of photos from other photographers.

While the series had been billed as a “visual journey” that wording has now been changed to a “visual reflection.”

The painting rip-offs were uncovered by Dylan fan site Expecting Rain which says in some instances line-for-line mimicry was found from high and low brow photographers including  Leon Busy, Henri Cartier Bresson, Dmitri Kessel and one Flickr user, Okinawa Soba

It’s not the first time the Gagosian gallery has fallen prey to such blatant photo-to-painting intellectual theft, Richard Price who supplied paintings to the gallery was eventually found guilty in a court of law, it turns out he’s the same guy who provided text for Bob Dylan’s Asia Series catalogues.

Do you think Bob Dylan’s reputation will be hurt because of this scandal? I personally place the blame on Gagosian for accepting paintings from an unproven artists without doing any of their homework first, even if it is Bob Dylan.

String Cheese Incident Reunited

The String Cheese Incident stopped playing together in August of 2007 when guitarist and vocalist Billy Nershi decided to work on his own individual projects.

“”There are no plans for the String Cheese Incident beyond summer of 2007,” the band announced at the time. “The band would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to our friends and fans for all your support.”

The String Cheese Incident’s Web site doesn’t specifically say that Nershi will be playing at the event, though it does call the show “SCI’s Only Incident of 2009.”

Rothbury 2009 Lineup

The Rothbury 2009 festival, held about three hours northwest of Detroit from July 2 through July 5, is actually produced by Madison House Presents — a company with ties to the String Cheese Incident’s business organization. Tickets for the show go on sale at 10 a.m. MDT Friday here.
