If you never thought in your life you would see a leprechaun or a unicorn I would take the bet that this is even more of a rarity.  Conservative talk  show host Bill O’Reilly came out on his show against the bigoted One Million Moms and in favor of Ellen DeGeneres and her new partnership with J.C. Penny.

One Million Moms, an offshoot of the American Family Association, has organized a group supposedly made up of more than one million family women who are calling on J.C. Penny to fire Ellen as one of their spokespeople for being a lesbian.

O’Reilly had one of the Moms on the O’Reilly Factor recently and compared the boycott to a “Witch Hunt” saying,

“What is the difference between the McCarthy era of the ’50s and the Million Moms saying, ‘Hey, JCPenney and all you other stores, don’t you hire any gay people. Don’t you dare.’ What is the difference?”

He was arguing with Sandy Rios a Fox News Contributor who was sticking up for the Moms.

She said,

“The problem is that Ellen DeGeneres has chosen to act out her lesbian lifestyle and marry her partner, it’s what that represents. And the fact that JC Penney is supposed to be middle America, the place where families shop…and people who believe that marriage is between a man and woman and children should not be exposed and propagandized in homosexuality have a moral problem with that.”

Ellen made it a point to specifically thank Bill O’Reilly for his support telling her audience (who was cheering Bill on),

“There’s somebody else who actually defended me that I’d like to mention: Bill O’Reilly. I already sent out a tweet to thank you…and you didn’t really make it clear if you were going to shop at JC Penney or not, but if you do, you can use my employee discount any time you want. That’s for you, Bill. Thank you so much.”

Michele Bachmann, also known as “Bible Spice” among liberals, doesn’t flirt with the center when talking politics.

As the country becomes more polarized and middle ground gets harder to find politically, Bachmann is happy to be as far right as she possibly can be. Case in point on last night’s Fox News show the O’Reilly Factor, Bachmann spoke to host Bill O’Reilly about how much more conservative she is than arch-conservative Newt Gingrich. Bachmann pegs Gingrich and Libertarian Ron Paul as her most fierce competition in the lead up to the 2012 campaign, and lists off a whole set of points supporting her contention she out-conservatives Newt.

Bachmann managed to shoehorn her denial of climate change, opposition to health care reform and unwillingness to be cordial to Democrats into one crazy soundbite. She rages:

“Of course because Newt Gingrich wants to legalize 11 million workers. That’s not what conservatives want. He is for the $700 billion TARP bailout. I’m not. He was the originator of the backbone of Obama care. I brought 40,000 people to Washington to fight against Obama care. He sat on the couch with Nancy Pelosi and it’s all over global warming and I have been fighting it and fighting on every front. So there is no question.”

O’Reilly, for his part, agrees with Bachmann that illegal immigration is an issue that should be dealt with, and pointedly asks her how she plans to round up and deport people in a reasonable way. Bachmann deflects, mentioning “consequences” and saying that 50% of Mexicans have moved “north of the border,” but failing to back up her talking points with facts and or actions. The discussion of how to deal with immigration culminated here between O’Reilly and Bachmann:

O’REILLY: I’m not justifying it I’m just saying on human basis, I don’t think it… theory is one thing. Dragging people out, putting them on a bus with their children crying is going to be quite something else.

BACHMANN: It can be done. That’s the thing. It can be done and

O’REILLY: It can be done but at what cost?

BACHMANN: It’s… but you know what it’s time we start acting like a first world nation and enforce our laws. Other nations enforce laws. Let’s do it.

O’REILLY: All right but you’re taking a very tough stance in a human way.

BACHMANN: It’s time… it’s time we do take a tough stance. But I’m a compassionate person but we have to get tough on illegal immigration. It’s hurting a lot of people.

At that point, the conversation turned on a dime to Bachmann’s prom experience. Do you think Michele Bachmann has the leadership skills to back up her talking points, or is she just pandering to Fox News viewers?

Bill O’Reilly’s book, Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assassination that Changed America Forever has sold very well, in fact the book has pushed more than one million copies and currently sits at #2 on the New York Times bestseller list, there’s just one problem, it’s riddled with historical inaccuracies that a middle school student in their first year learning about history could point out.

Salon National Park Service bookstore at Ford’s Theatre pointed out these glaring inaccuracies:

• Killing Lincoln refers several times to the Oval Office. Little problem: The Oval Office wasn’t built until 1909.

• O’Reilly writes of Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee: “The two warriors will never meet again.” In fact, they did have a second meeting in 1865 to talk about prisoners of war.
• According to the book, Ford’s Theatre “burned to the ground in 1863.” Sorry Bill, make that 1862.
• In O’Reilly’s words, John Wilkes Booth used “a pen knife to carve a very small peephole” to observe Lincoln in his theater box. But one historical record says the hole was bored so guards could keep an eye on the president.

Aside from one organization taking aim at the book other reviewers and everyday readers on Amazon and other book review sites have pointed out how Bill O’Reilly has decided to mold history into his own personal account of events he obviously wasn’t a part of.

Given the number of fudged facts his Fox News network makes on a regular basis I can’t say it surprises me to learn that the network’s biggest star, Bill O’Reilly, couldn’t be bothered to fact check information before he moved forward. Perhaps O’Reilly used Conservapedia to find his facts and we all know how inaccurate their database has become.

I have to agree with Gawker’s Lauri Apple’s assessment of the book:

Even though O’Reilly’s book is a rectangle-shaped poop-pile, it’s still on the best-seller list and he’s still going to get paid wheelbarrows full of money to write more poop-piles in the future—including another presidential history. Look, he wouldn’t write these things if people didn’t care what he thought.

Author’s and publishers will go to great lengths to publicize their books, even to the point of shipping a box of them to soldiers in Afghanistan it seems, the problem is that sometimes those books aren’t exactly what the soldiers need.

Such is the case recently when someone decided it would be a great idea to send some American soldiers stationed in some remote outpost of Afghanistan a box of Bill O’Reilly’s new book Pinheads and Patriots instead of something that they might actually need.

As one soldier said on their blog “some jerk sent us two boxes of this awful book instead of anything soldiers at a remote outpost might need, say, like, foo or soap”.

It turns out that their commanding officer figured that the books would be better served by warming up the soldiers and order them to burn the books, which apparently they gladly did.

No word on who was the thoughtful person who sent the books in the first place but just an idea for those of you thinking of doing something similar .. maybe include a chocolate bar or two instead.

Fox TV personality and relentless mouthpiece Bill O’Reilly on Thursday went off his rocker calling the Occupy Wall Street protesters a bunch of “crackheads” who are dealing dope to people on the street while occupying Manhattan’s Zucotti Park.

Even O’Reilly guests and sympathizers were a bit shocked by his ignorant comments with conservative author Margaret Hoover saying:

“They’re not crackheads, Bill,” while she added “There’s soft drugs—marijuana, stuff that you inhale. I personally haven’t smelled it. My husband has.” She then added “It’s a counter culture collective.”

One aspect of the Occupy Wall Street is certain, GOP members simply don’t have a clue what is going on across the country with various protests, earlier this week Newt Gingrich said many of the participants are “sincere middle-class people who, frankly, are very close to the Tea Party people.” Gingrich then noted that they ”clean up after themselves,” unlike the left-wing “agitators” that were also attending the protests.

Of course O’Reilly had to get the last word in and when he was told that the protesters support the socialist systems found in Canada and Denmark he responded:

“I love Canada and Denmark, so maybe I should join this group.”

Here’s a better plan for you Mr. O’Reilly, move to Canada or Denmark, although I highly doubt they’d be willing to give you citizenship. In the meantime I find it amusing that GOP members such as Gingrich are attempting to align themselves with the “good people” at the rally’s while at the same time speaking out against the message found at the protests.

NPR has fired longtime news analyst Juan Williams after controversial remarks he made on Bill O’Reilly’s show regarding fears he has about flying with people in “garb” associated with Muslims.

The New York Times quoted Williams, who made the statements in response to remarks by O’Reilly. Williams said:

“I mean, look, Bill, I’m not a bigot. You know the kind of books I’ve written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.”

Williams also commented on the man arrested for attempting to bomb Times Square:

“He said the war with Muslims, America’s war is just beginning, first drop of blood. I don’t think there’s any way to get away from these facts,” Mr. Williams said.

On NPR’s website, the dissolution of Williams’ contract was disclosed in the third person:

NPR said it had notified Williams that his contract was being severed. The statement says Williams’ remarks “were inconsistent with our editorial standards and practices, and undermined his credibility as a news analyst with NPR.”

Williams, who has tussled with NPR in the past over remarks he has made on Fox programming, has not yet commented on the remarks or their aftermath.

Stephen Colbert was on The View today, and he poked a bit of fun at Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar by walking off the show when Bill O’Reilly came up in conversation.

An argument about the “Ground Zero mosque” between the ladies of The View and Fox News pundit Bill O’Reilly culminated in a dramatic in-segment walk off by hosts Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg.

The Daily Show host Jon Stewart finished up a two-part series of interviews on Bill O’Reilly’s The O’Reilly Factor last night, and it made for some great, laugh-trackless watching as the two sparred over Iran, climate change, Khaled Sheik Mohammed does New York, and Sarah Palin.

O’Reilly starts off the interview under the premise that he’s vetting Stewart as a presidential running mate, opening a dialogue about climate change before the conversation turns to Iran. Stewart, thanking Fox News for “racheting up the fear” on the issue of Iran, calmly and consisely downplays fears of Iranian nuclear proliferation, and points out that overthrowing governments to stop tiny terrorist cells from attacking is a misguided strategy. As much as I love O’Reilly too, and I do- it’s really striking how Stewart knocks down all the Fox News talking points like so many straw men. O’Reilly’s gracious about the whole thing, trading barbs with Stewart in the way most New Yorkers knock each other in casual conversation, but Stewart really gets bitchy at points. He’s mostly right, though, so he gets away with it.

O’Reilly moves on to Khaled Sheik Mohammed and whether the 9/11 trials should be located in downtown Manhattan. O’Reilly cites the expense, to which Stewart replies that he’s glad O’Reilly’s “suddenly concerned about cost.” Stewart veers over towards the massive expense of the Iraq war (and ostensibly, the relatively minor worth of the invasion), and O’Reilly gamely apologizes for his earlier warmongering and the whole WMD thing. Back on KSM, Stewart dismisses concerns that the trial exposes NYC to a larger terrorist threat. The interview finishes up on the issue of Sarah Palin, and whether TDS has been unfair to Palin since her rise to notoriety. Instead of making an obvious joke, Stewart calls her out on her insistence that there are two Americas- her ‘real’ one and the rest of us, adroitly pointing out in a few words what it is that makes Palin a target for her many detractors. On his own show last night, Stewart ragged on blogs a bit for their hyperbolic headlines in a segment called, “The Blogs Must Be Crazy.”

Fox News and Bill O’Reilly are gloating over the numbers they got during the 8 o’clock slot over the news of the Ft. Hood shootings, saying that they wiped out CNN and MSNBC. Even scarier is that they seem to be under the impression that they are now the new voice of the news.

“We did 5 million viewers at 8 O’Clock, wiped out CNN and MSNBC, wiped them off the face of the earth. The guard has changed in this country. The media guard has changed. And you know why people came in here, because they knew they were going to get an honest story. They weren’t going to get spin that Hasan is some kind of post-traumatic syndrome victim. Some kind of victim of a terrible public policy gone awry. They’re not going to get that….. I almost said a bad word. They’re not going to get that garbage here.”

Political commentator and beacon of fair, balanced journalism Bill O’Reilly has got his panties in a real bunch over a viral advert for Guitar Hero 5, which features what he terms “nudity.”

The O’Reilly Factor host described the ad as “shameless promotion,” and dubbed the female models “pinheads.” Publisher Activision is yet to comment, so allow us to do that for them: “LOL.” Here’s O’Reilly flapping his gums and replaying the “shameless” advert in question on his own show. You know, just so his viewers are informed. Way to take a stand, Bill.

Even by O’Reilly’s dazzling standards, this is crazy talk. For one, you’d see more flesh if the girls were wearing bikinis, while Bill is happy to overlook the “naked” guy who arrives shortly after, quickly becoming the focus of the advert. Conveniently, the producers cut that part out. Here’s the advert in full:

So I think we all know the biggest question raised by this, and that is: is O’Reilly actually on Activision’s payroll? Because this is the second Guitar Hero ad that’s enjoyed publicity from bleating Billy.

Bill O’Reilly waited until Michael Jackson was completely dead and buried to spit on his grave, launching an amazing attack on his show last night.

In his Talking Points Memo segment, O’Reilly said he was “fed up with the adulation” and “phony platitudes” of the Jackson memorial service, and labeled the sentiments expressed by the participants as “pathetic in the extreme.” O’Reilly also claims that the attention Jackson’s death received “illustrates just how crazy the USA is becoming..a cowardly media will exploit any event for ratings.” As opposed to a coward who waits until someone dies to attack them….

After attacking Jackson for spending money on himself while singing “We are the World,” O’Reilly went straight to race, saying Michael Jackson wasn’t an African American icon because he bleached his skin and has white children.

I may not be the hugest Michael Jackson fan, but I know its poor to speak of the dead, something Bill doesn’t seem to understand. Here’s the Bill O’Reilly Michael Jackson video:

Looks like someone called the chicken police. According to the synopsis for this video, “two rabbits get out of hand on the ol’ farm and the chicken police have to step in. It appears that Bill O’Reilly has once more put his foot in his mouth and forgot to engage his brain before opening that mouth. I am sure some of you will think that this is nothing new but this time his toe nibbling resulted in an almost five minute slap down from Rick Sanchez on CNN.

The whole dust up is over the amount of reporting that was done about the coverage of the shooting of two military recruiters, one of whom died. O’Reilly in his most insulting condescending manner said that he only saw a single report of the incident on CNN and that because of this lack of coverage they had no business advertising themselves as a straight news reporting network.

Well this kind of rubbed Sanchez the wrong way considering the fact that he did two separate reports, one of which was with a retired FBI agent, over the shootings. In fact the number of reports on CNN went well beyond that but I tell you what take the five minutes and have a look at Sanchez as he makes some nice jabs – especially at the end – towards O’Reilly.

Before I get to the video, I want to clear some things up that have been bothering me lately. I find it depressing that in the midst of perhaps the most salient time in our country’s history, individuals are taking it upon themselves to encourage negativity and stupidity. Last week, Mr. Bill O’Reilly and some really classy sites (i.e.TMZ) insinuated I was dumb by claiming Sweden was a neutral country. I appreciate the fact that he is a news anchor and that gossip sites are inundated with intelligent reporting, but seriously people…it’s so sad to me that you think the only neutral country during WWII was Switzerland. Bill O’Reilly spoke to Karl Rove on Fox yesterday (Monday) about the economic crisis, and Rove said that the economic crisis is really a media beetup as part of a conscious effort by parts of the media, including the New York Times, to paint a dire picture of the economy in order to help Obama. The theory goes: make it a lot worse now, so Obama can come in and save us all, and Bush gets the blame for all the bad stuff.

According to Wikileaks, which as posted proof of the attack, the hack came in retaliation for remarks O’Reilly made condemning the attack on Palin’s Yahoo email account. O’Reilly said among other things

“I’m not going to mention the website that posted this, but it’s one of those despicable, slimy, scummy websites…Everybody knows where this stuff is, OK, and they know the people who run the website, so why can’t they go there tonight to the guy’s house who runs it, put him in cuffs and take him down and book him?”

Screenshots on Wikileaks show the admin interface from O’Reilly’s site, including including names, email addresses, passwords, and home town details of 20 subscribers of the website. The Register reports that details of 205 subscribers were intercepted, according to the company that maintains the O’Reilly website.
