Poland is a traditionally catholic country that has recently been dealing with how to react to religious defamation and that fact was emphasized this week when polish singer Dorota Rabczewska was fined for disparaging remarks made against the bible.

The singer said in a 2009 interview that she doubted the truth of the Bible ”because it’s hard to believe in something that was written by someone drunk on wine and smoking some herbs.”

Dorota was ordered to pay 5,000 zlotys ($1,450) by a Warsaw court for offending religious feelings.

This isn’t the first time a musician has been put in front of the court, a death metal performer named Adam Darski tore apart a Bible during a 2007 performance however he was not fined because the act was deemed artistic expression.

Both musicians share an intimate connection, Adam Darski and Dorota Rabczewska once dated.

Last year pastor Terry Jones outraged the global community when he went through with a plan to burn the Koran. But the Muslim holy book isn’t the only holy book that is filled with “immoral” passages. An atheist group in California is holding a demonstration this weekend where they will rip out pages in the bible in order to rid the good book from “immoral” teachings.

Bruce Gleason, director of Backyard Skeptics, said:

“We’re not there to burn the Bible or desecrate. But there are plenty verses in the Bible that if you did any of those things today, you’d be thrown in jail immediately.”

The OC Register notes that one passage that will be removed from the bible is from Deuteronomy 22: 14-31, which says ”if a man finds his wife not to be a virgin, the community can stone her.”

Gleason says that his group will trim down the bible much like Thomas Jefferson did. Jefferson’s Bible, which the Smithsonian National Museum of American History is currently restoring, contained just 86-pages of the spiritual tome.

Gleason said:

“We will have copies of the Jefferson Bible.. Out of 1,100 pages he only kept (86) of them. This is one of our Founding Fathers.

“We want to make this a better world for secular and humanistic values. We don’t believe prayer works. We don’t believe religion adds anything except a sense of false hope.”

Gleason will stream the Backyard Skeptics demonstration on UStream at 2 p.m.

So Bible Navigator X … what is it? Basically, it’s the entire Bible … BUT ON YOUR XBOX 360.

And that’s it, really. No minigames with bread or fish or lepers, but a straight text port from the real Bible. Frankly, the lack of pictures soon lost my attention, but if this is your thing, it’ll cost you 400 Microsoft Points, which is about $4 in earth money. A sequel is reportedly unlikely.

A Swedish version of the bible released in the United States hasn’t been well received: apparently religious types don’t like pictures of men kissing.

The Book, a modern take on the bible has resulted in protests from religious groups and creator Dag Söderberg receiving hate mail and death threats.

Pictures in The Book include Swedish model Victoria Silverstedt, burning men, and a photograph of two men making out.

The Book was released in Sweden in 2007 without a similar reaction, according to local press reports.

The Book is sold in the United States under the name Bible Illuminated: The Book. Buyers are invited to “bring a fresh perspective to our history and culture to a coffee table near you.” A new edition, minus the controversial pictures is currently being printed.

This book doesn’t work. I’ve tried the “praying” method to get a new Porsche 996 delivered but to no avail. There’s nothing in the instructions about not wanting German sports cars but I tried praying for less ambitious things. I gave up when it didn’t even get me a Big Mac. In the early part there’s a bit about people crossing the desert and being sustained by manna from heaven, so you’d think that it would be able to manage at least a hamburger.

I’m disappointed and will contact the publisher. In the meantime I can’t recommend this book as it is clearly faulty.

Prayer is the wrong method. You would have a lot more success by stealing the Porsche and then asking God for forgiveness.
