Michael Jackson’s Father Refused Entry To German Beer Fest

Michael Jackson’s father has been banned from a German beer festival because he should not be partying after his “child has passed away.” Music mogul Joe Jackson requested access to a VIP marquee at Oktoberfest – an annual event which runs for 16 days in Munich – but was refused entry by events organizer Sepp Kratz because he thinks Joe should be mourning the death of his son, who passed away in June.

Sepp, who has run the Hippodrum tent for 15 years, told German magazine Stern: “Michael Jackson’s father was desperate to have a seat reserved. I rejected his request immediately. I was really shocked. The man has just buried his son. It’s totally inappropriate to celebrate happily just after your child passed away. That’s just not right. In short, anyone who has no sense of decency isn’t welcome at our place.”

Although Sepp isn’t a fan of Joe, one celebrity he did enjoy having in his tent was Paris Hilton.

Sepp revealed: “Paris came three years ago. She was lucky, she was allowed to enter. She really behaved herself, but I do think she has an ice cold heart.”

Oktoberfest kicked off on September 19 and ends on October 4.

Joe – who the “Billie Jean” singer claimed beat him throughout his childhood – was criticized in the immediate aftermath of Michael’s death for publicizing new business ventures while speaking about he loss of his son.

Social media hero: Mika drops 25K in London bar on Twitter followers

Pop-star Mika took his Twitter followers in London out for a pint Tuesday, to the tune of £25K.

Just before 11AM, Mika tweeted:

When Mika arrived at Portobello Road’s Ground Floor Bar in London, more than 300 fans had taken his tweet-vite to heart and were ready to take him up on his offer of a pint. Mika said he planned the night out to celebrate the release of his new album We Are Golden, and to thank his fans for “being brilliant.”

After the night out, Mika thanked his fans again, via Twitter:

Thank you so much to all of you who came tonight. That was one the funnest nights in the last few years. You turned the pub into a club. x

So you can add that to the list of stuff Twitter is actually good for… free beer.

Alcohol Abstainers May Be More At Risk For Depression

Miami, FL (AHN) – Alcohol abstinence has been associated with an increased risk of depression by Norwegian scientists.

The researchers, with the Nord-Trondelag Health Study, concluded that in countries where drinking some alcohol is socially acceptable, abstinence may be associated with being socially marginalized, or even be linked with certain traits that are also sometimes associated with mental illness.

The researchers said the link between alcohol abstinence and depression could also be due to abstainers having other health issues or being former drinkers.

The study looked into the drinking habits and mental health of 38,000 people. The researchers found that those who reported drinking no alcohol during a two-week period were more likely than moderate drinkers to report depression symptoms.

The study is published in the journal Addiction.

Smoking pot may save beer soaked brains

It must be the weekend with this little run on beer, and other party related favors, stories but for those of you who don’t do moderate beer drinking well this might be something to keep in mind.

It appears that researchers at the University of California San Diego have found some interesting results after performing brain scans of 16 to 19 year olds in three groups: binge drinkers, binge drinkers who also smoke pot, and those with little experience of either evil substance.

In a news release from the Marijuana Project the unexpected result they discovered was that marijuana somehow stops alcohol from damaging brain cells. They found that binge drinkers showed damage in their brain’s white matter but those who drink and smoke showed more damage than the control group in only three of eight areas of the brain. In seven of the areas their brains were in better shape.

Bone density in women improved by drinking beer

This isn’t an endorsement for women to go out and get hammered everyday but as with all things moderate drinking of beer appears to be beneficial for women’s bone density.

In a study conducted at the University of Extremadura in Caceres, Spain, scientists had 1,697 healthy women, 811 of whom were postmenopausal and 176 were going through menopause, fill out questionnaires that asked about smoking and levels of alcohol, caffeine and nutritional consumption. As well the women agreed to undergo ultrasound scan to measure the density of their bones.

The researchers found that participants who reported drinking beer on a regular basis tended to have greater bone density than those who did not drink beer or who tended to consume wine.

Reporting their findings in Nutrition journal, they suggested that "the greater bone density found in women beer drinkers might be a result of the phytoestrogen content of this alcoholic drink".

Phytoestrogens are plant hormones that are similar to the human hormone oestrogen and which may therefore help to replenish low levels of oestrogen following the menopause.

The key here is moderation as other studies have also found that drinking alcohol to excess can lead to weaken bones.

New beer helps you overcome binge drinking by binge drinking

Britain’s strongest beer just hit shop shelves, clocking in at a room-spinning 18.2% ABV.

BrewDog’s new “Tokyo” beer crams six units of booze into a 330ml bottle- that’s about twice the recommended daily limit for sauce hitting. But, wait! Is that a good thing? James Watt, founder of BrewDog, explained how lager-on-steroids might actually curb excess drinking:

“Our hardcore beers are loaded with flavour, bite and body so consequently you drink less of them.

“Mass-market industrially-brewed lagers are so bland and tasteless that you are seduced into drinking a lot of them.

“We’ve been challenging people to drink less alcohol, and educating the palates of drinkers with progressive craft-brewed beers which have an amazing depth of flavour, body and character.

“The beers we make at BrewDog, including Tokyo , are providing a cure to binge beer-drinking.”

Surprisingly, anti-alcohol activists and political groups completely disagree, contending that the product may actually promote binge drinking. (ORLY?) Critics point out that a pint of Tokyo contains as much alcohol as a bottle of wine and that by consuming even one bottle, women as a whole would technically already be binge drinking. But naysayers needn’t worry too hard- the lovely lager will only be available in a limited run of 3,000 bottles and only through the Scottish brewery’s website or special independent shops in the UK.

Also fixable by drinking beer that’s nearly 20% ABV? Being able to finance getting drunk in a recession! Yay, economics!

Make that bikini top disappear as you drink your beer

We all know the jokes floating around about drinking too much beer can get you into all kinds of trouble with the opposite sex and send some running or the door the next morning. Well how about if your trouble started even sooner than that – like as you drink your first beer even.

If Skinny Blonde beer out of Australia has their way that pretty pinup girl on the beer bottle’s label will start losing her bikini top the more you drink from the bottle. The idea first came about three years ago when actor Richie Harkham, 29, along with Hamish Rosser, 34, and artist Jarrod Taylor, 33, came up with the idea over a night of some heavy drinking.

“We had the idea of a pin-up girl from the get go, we thought everyone uses women in their advertising campaigns so why not put it on a bottle?” Mr Rosser, who is the drummer in the Australian band The Vines, told The Times.

“So we had this idea of the disappearing bikini and researched into disappearing ink. Then we did a few trial runs and when we realised it worked we were stoked, we were over the moon.”

Aussie beer’s secret ingredients

I am currently traveling in Malaysia on the island of Langkawi which is famous for its beaches and its duty-free status – lazing on the beach, drinking cheap beer, more could you ask for in a holiday destination.

Imported Australian beer sells for around US$1 a can. Interestingly the Malaysian importer has attached a sticker, listing its ingredients, which is not found on the original can. Victoria Bitter is one Australia’s most popular beers and contains your usual malt, yeast, barley, in addition to coriander and dried orange peel.

The beer’s brewer Fosters, describes the beer on their website as:

“a full flavoured brew, less malty in character and slightly darker than CUB’s traditional lagers. A gentle fruitiness in the aroma complements the sweet malt on the mid-palate balancing perfectly with a robust, hop bitterness.”

I wonder how many Australians realize the “fruitiness” of their favorite beer comes from dried orange peel.

Beer drinkers sue to keep Bud Lite American

10 beer drinkers have filed a federal lawsuit claiming that the Belgium takeover on Anheuser-Busch violates U.S. antitrust laws.

The suit, filed in Anheuser-Busch’s hometown of St. Louis is seeking no financial damages, asking only that a judge blocks the deal. Although the competition aspects may be considered by the Department of Justice, the plaintiffs what the deal stopped anyway, and are willing to spend money to achieve their goal.

The names of the beer drinkers have not been revealed, but the lawsuit notes only that they drink Anheuser-Busch and would be affected if the company raised prices post acquisition.

FoxNews tracked down one plaintiff, a Barry Ginsburg who said that he joined the suit because he is worried how the deal might affect his hometown of St. Louis, and that plaintiffs in the case care about more than paying a little extra for their beer.

“This is bigger than us,” Ginsburg said. “We all have a pretty good idea what happens when people have a monopoly, and when it’s a foreign company that has a monopoly.”

Man blames bad driving on spilled beer

A New Mexico man pulled over by police for erratic driving apologized by telling officers that he had spilled his beer, and that’s why he was driving the way he was.

The man, who has four previous drink driving convictions was arrested on aggravated drunken driving charges after failing a sobriety test. Officers found four opened bottles of beer in the car.

At least he was honest.
