Identical triplets, three embryos developing from a single egg, are incredibly rare, with between one in 60,000 and one in 500,000 births. The Beaslys of Portland, Oregon welcomed three identical brothers at Randall Children’s Hospital, Liam, Bradley, and Eli, more than three months before their due date.

Their mom, Jessica, stated, according to WWLTV-4 that:

“It’s one day at a time. You don’t know what to expect but right now everything is good.”

NICU nurse Larissa Raze explained that:

“We’re watching their breathing and making sure that their airways stay open.”

Oregon Live reports that the smallest of the three, Liam Eric, was born at 1 lb, 7 oz. and only 10 inches long. He, along with another brother, are receiving light treatment for jaundice, and that they are kept in a womb-like atmosphere, which is low-light and warm.

The triplets will stay at the Newborn ICU for 6 to 12 weeks, but their happy mom was quick to note that they are all breathing on their own. She has stated that she is not allowed to hold them yet, but that, ” I have gotten to take their temperature and change a few diapers.”

Their incubators are only opened for check ups and diaper changes every four hours, allowing for a quiet, less distracting environment while the triplets grow.

Jessica laughs now, remembering what their daughter, 4-year-old Sophia, asked Santa for for Christmas. She stated, according to WWLTV-4 that:

“Our daughter had asked Santa for more kids and then told us we would have 5. We didn’t believe her but now we do have 5.”

Once they are home, the Beasly parents will be raising five children under five, as the three triplets will be joined by Sophia and 2-year-old Zachary.
