Batman: Arkham Origins has just landed a teaser trailer, where Batman faces down Deathstroke.

The Batman series for the consoles is one of the most successful video game franchises based on a superhero, probably ever. So it makes sense that there would be a third Batman title in the series that started with Batman: Akham Asylum. This time, however, it’s being developed by someone else.

This time around, Batman is being developed by Warner Bros. Games Montreal, who is going back to when Batman hadn’t met most of the villains yet. Batman: Arkham Origins is also under the supervision of one of the people behind Prototype, which could indicate that gamers may actually continue to play this title even after everything is done.

Deathstroke was introduced in the comics toward the end of the Silver Age, as a new era of ultra-violence reared its head in DC Comics. Needless to say, he could be one of Batman’s most ferocious villains yet, skipping over the dramatic and the riddles and just going straight for the jugular.

The trailer for Batman: Arkham Origins begins with a closeup of Deathstroke in the snow, followed by the same from Batman, who scowls in anticipation. The two start fighting immediately as sword meets bat armor in a well-choreographed battle of skills. The logo for Batman: Arkham Origins appears after a few flashes of this battle.

The words on the screen tell us that Batman: Arkham Origins is due for release worldwide on October 25, 2013. Then it tells us the full trailer is coming May 20.

Warner Bros. Games Montreal knows this game is expected to be huge after the success of Batman: Arkham Asylum and its followup, Arkham City. Games that haven’t been proven usually don’t get teasers advertising a trailer for the sequel.

Batman: Arkham Origins is obviously promising to make it feel like Christmas Eve in real life like it is in the game, for fans of the Dark Knight.

Batman: Arkham Origins is getting closer and closer to release and while we’re still a few months away there is plenty of new info and new screen shots to be had.

Recently we found out that the titular character would not be voiced by Kevin Conroy. Conroy has been the voice of the Dark Knight in the rest of the games in this series but WB Montreal decided they wanted to go with a younger sounding actor this time around.

The younger actor is supposed to go along with a younger caped crusader and new reports indicate that this version of the hero will be around the second year of his career.

Batman: Arkham Origins takes place on Christmas Eve and because of this the gamer plays quite a bit of the story in a snow storm. WB Montreal had originally included a sort of storm sensor that was supposed to tell you when a blast of cold air was coming. In the end the company felt it changed the free flow of fighting too much to keep it.

The new screen shots that have surfaced back up the reports of a kind of “Winter Wonderland” to fight in. The game also takes place at night so you get the dark foreboding tone that the other games have managed to pull off coupled with the frigid cold.

When it comes to the fighting mode for this game, the developers say that goons will be able to take advantage of the “verticality” of New Gotham.

The costumed villains won’t be the only people The Bat has to take on. Gotham City police officers are quite corrupt in this game and because of that he’ll have to take on the authorities as well.

One police officer that the character will meet for the first time will be Jim Gordon. Gordon is a captain at this particular juncture of the storyline.

Injustice: Gods Among Us just landed a trailer for a new DLC character. Say hello to Lobo.

Injustice: Gods Among Us is the critically acclaimed DC Comics fighting game from NeatherRealm, the people who gave us Mortal Kombat and then reinvented it. The story involves Superman being tricked by the Joker into nuking Metropolis, therefore sending the man of steel into a mental breakdown, taking the rest of the Justice League with him. The Justice League from another universe intervenes, and so the brawl begins.

At the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo, NeatherRealm showed off Injustice: Gods Among Us and a trailer for a new DLC character, Lobo. The new character seems to be based on the version of Lobo that existed before Rob Liefeld rebooted the franchise (a move which angered many a fan).

Lobo is an alien bounty hunter, rarely used, but known to be a hardboiled villain. He was the DC Comics equivalent of a combination of Marvel’s Wolverine and Punisher, a biker with regenerative healing powers and heightened senses. A more serious version of Deadpool, in other words.

The Injustice: Gods Among Us DLC trailer begins with Lobo riding in on a floating bike and dismounting. He has a chain wrapped around his forearm and a gun strapped to his back. He puts a cigar up to his mouth and says, “Time to liven up the joint.” He lights the cigar with a flamethrower.

Batman enters in a cloud of bats, poses for battle, and the fight begins.

Lobo shoots the ground, sending Batman off his feet for a second, and follows up with a dive attack. Then he readies his gun as Batman starts knocking him about. Batman approaches the fallen Lobo as the villain gets up and throws him with a spinning move.

Lobo resumes attacking with his guns and various throws, one of which uses his chain. Then he throws Batman into a teleporter of some kind, at which point Darkseid gets off his chair, throws and blasts Batman back out of the room through the device. The rest of the trailer is above.

Batman: Arkham Origins is in the works, and the developers have learned a few things from previous Batman games.

After changing hands from developer Rocksteady, Warner Bros. Games Montreal looks back on the previous successes of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, pulling lessons they can apply to Batman: Arkham Origins. They talk about how Batman: Arkham Asylum changed the industry of videogames as well.

Ben Mattes, senior producer for Batman: Arkham Origins starts:

“I remember the guy … coming to me one day and just asking me if I’d read about this Arkham Asylum game. I guess I was a little prejudiced … I had dismissed it. ‘It’s gonna be another licensed superhero title, and I don’t really expect too much.’ I remember one day hearing about it, it’s been pushed back, and I started going ‘Wow, wait a second, what’s that all about? You don’t do that for a license title, obviously, this isn’t a standard license title. There’s something deeper to this.’”

Reid Schneider, WB Games Montreal’s head of production picks up from there, “I remember first seeing the campaign for Arkham Asylum. … I was with a buddy of mine named Alex, who was the creative director on AC3, we were looking at this and we were like, ‘This looks good,’ and she was like, ‘It’s amazing.’ I’m like, ‘Really?’ … I guess the game came out a few months later, we’re like, ‘Well played, Remy.’”

Ben Mattes continues:

“Obviously when it did come out, it was all anyone on my team talked about for a solid month. In particular, what they talked about and what we all aspired towards was how immediately you were Batman. They did not break that fourth wall. Everything you did, every UI element, every mechanic, every narrative element just further immersed you into the fantasy of being Batman. We salivated at that, we broke it apart and analyzed every little bit of it to try and extract from that techniques that we could make sure we were applying to our game so that ideally, players would feel as immersed in our lead characters as you were in Batman in Arkham Asylum.”

Batman: Arkham Origins may be offering multiplayer, according to sources.

The Dark Knight has seen some quite successful outings on the current generation consoles with the Batman: Arkham series, and now Injustice: Gods Among Us. Now under a new developer and headed by the man behind Prototype, Batman is getting the most immersive Gotham City we’ve seen yet.

Let’s just hope Batman isn’t going to face the inmates of Arkham Asylum as they all use the same drug that turned the Joker into that hulking whatever it was at the end of… well, Arkham Asylum. With all of Gotham City now available and multiple levels at that, there’s certainly room for a crowd of mutated super-inmates.

We also already know that Batman: Arkham Origins is going to have Batman facing off with a lot of villains for the first time, much like the “Silver Age” series in the comics. One villain we’ll be seeing for the first time in the series is Deathstroke, who seems to be the serious DC Comics version of Marvel’s Deadpool.

Gotham City will be decorated in Christmas Eve lights and such, giving the city a creepy combination of dark and gothic alongside cheerful. We can only hope that Batman: Arkham Origins will let us knock a plastic Santa off a skyscraper and watch it shrink as it falls to its doom below. We all get bored occasionally when we don’t want to finish the game just yet, so it would be a cool distraction.

New reports tell us that Batman: Arkham Origins will also feature multiplayer, allowing players to act out a fight between Batman, Robin, the Joker, and Bane. In that case, let’s hope we can make the Joker laugh or use bad jokes only when we want him to, or that fight could get annoying quickly.

Officially, Warner Bros. has declined to comment on the multiplayer element, so we’ll have to wait and see.

The Bagram Batman of Afghanistan is watching out for those who might “harm those most dear to his heart, US Service Members.” That’s the word from the US Army and American Forces Network (AFN) Afghanistan, who have teamed up to promote the safety and security of soldiers and civilians deployed to Afghanistan.

In the safety videos, those who would harm the innocent are often the rather klutzy innocents themselves to judge from the 30-second public service announcements (PSAs), which require the Dark Knight to avert catastrophe by … wait for it … stopping some idiot from jogging while wearing headphones.

Batman has been the king of action camp for a long time and not only in Afghanistan. A long-running newspaper comics strip, the 1960s era TV program Batman starring Adam West and Burt Ward as Batman and Robin brought a touch of over-the-top humor to the story. The 1989 Tim Burton film, also called Batman, kept the camp but added a tinge of darkness that has colored the franchise ever since.

In this century, the Christopher Nolan directed and Christian Bale starring trilogy — Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises — has kept the legend alive. I won’t say that the Bagram Batman will ever be asked to sign autographs for Christian Bale, but hey. If you don’t get a chuckle out of this, check your pulse.

Batman In Afghanistan Hilarious Safety Videos [Video] is a post from: The Inquisitr

Do you remember when Harvey Dent said “You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain” in the 2008 hit The Dark Knight? Stan Worby, the “Bradford Batman,” learned that firsthand.

Worby achieved international attention earlier this year when he delivered an alleged crook to police in Bradford in the dead of night. He simply showed up with a wanted man, turned him in at the police station, and then went on his merry way – all while dressed as the DC Comics superhero Batman.

Later, it was revealed that the man he turned in was actually his friend, who wanted a friend to accompany him to the station for moral support. Worby thought it would be a hoot and a half to dress as Batman when he dropped his friend off at the station, and the Internet was rightly disappointed after finding out the truth.

Well, prepare for some more disappointment. Worby has now been arrested for allegedly stealing from a garage. For extra irony, the “Bradford Batman” was caught burgling with the very man he turned in to police months ago while dressed as the Dark Knight.

The two were arrested just after 4am on Sunday when their car was stopped by police. They were charged with stealing power tools worth roughly $1,200 from a local garage.

His accomplice, 27-year-old Daniel Frayne, appeared in court Monday, and entered a “not guilty” plea to burglary. He and Worby will appear in court again on April 26.

It is unknown whether Worby, a 39-year-old Chinese takeout delivery driver, was wearing his Batman costume when he was arrested. But probably not.

Speaking of his Bat-antics in February, Worby said: ”I’m no superhero. I eat kebabs. I never run anywhere. The furthest I walk is from my house to my car,” continuing, “I’ve never done fancy dress before, it’s not my thing. So for this to happen the first time I dress up, I just can’t believe it.”

When he dropped Frayne off at the police station, he told cops ”I deserve a medal, I’m a caped crusader.” One wonders what the “Bradford Batman” thinks he deserves now.

‘Bradford Batman’ Arrested After Alleged Robbery is a post from: The Inquisitr

Man of Steel has been planned as a door opener for other DC Comics superhero movies, Warner Bros. Pictures Group president Jeff Robinov revealed in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly.

The full interview appears in this week’s issue of the print magazine, but the EW website shared some juicy tidbits on Thursday.

“I think you’ll see that, going forward, anything can live in this world,” Robinov told the publication.

“[Nolan’s] Batman was deliberately and smartly positioned as a stand-alone. The world they lived in was very isolated without any knowledge of any other superheroes. What Zack [Snyder] and Chris [Nolan] have done with this film is allow you to really introduce other characters into the same world.”

Robinov added that the company would announce something “in the next several weeks that will hopefully position the DC characters and the movies we’re going to be making,” presumably before the film’s June 14 release date.

Screenwriter David S. Goyer, in earlier comments to EW, warned fans of the master plan not to get their hopes up for any sequel baiting in the Man of Steel.

“One of the things we dealt with on the Batman films is, Chris dislikes it when you plan something, when you say, ‘I’m going to follow this up in the next film.’ … He’s always said put everything you have into this film and then worry about the next film later. That gives the film its own integrity as opposed to being part of an overall plan.”

Goyer continued: “So of course the comic book fans, it’s hard not to think about [crossovers] but I, having done three Batman films and worked in that way, it’s definitely the approach we took with Man of Steel.” Here’s more from Goyer and cast members:

In other words, Joker carrying card-style hints a la Batman Begins? Yes. An appearance by Wonder Woman? Not likely.

As interested as we would be in seeing, say, Charlie Hunnam turn up as The Flash / Wally West – thanks for the tip Cinematic Happenings Under Development – it’s probably not going to happen.

However, early buzz on the film has been largely positive, and fan interest has steamrolled in the last month thanks to speculation of a Lex Luthor appearance, so we can live without it at this time as long as the movie rocks.

Batman: Arkham Origins will feature an expanded world.

The Batman series that started with Batman: Arkham Asylum has enthralled and entertained DC Comics gamers since its introduction, and the trend of bigger follow-ups is continuing.

The first title in the series gave us a scenario where Batman had to find his way around Arkham Asylum. The second title allowed us to explore Gotham a bit more openly, though it was still called Arkham City. Arkham Origins gives us all of Gotham City to explore.

Creative director Eric Holmes may be ensuring that Batman‘s new Gotham City feels familiar, considering his previous title Prototype took place in New York City, basically a newer name for Gotham City.

Warner Bros. Games Montreal is looking to replicate the feel of Batman: Arkham City, and open it up further. A new addition to the mood of the game is that it’s set on Christmas Eve, so the dark and grim settings of Gotham City will be given an ironically cheerful décor. Eric Holmes explains it, “It’s a really cool, happy, warm thing and then a really sad thing mixed together to make this ironic image. It’s a beautiful thing in an ugly place. It adds an ironic humor to things without breaking the seriousness of the theme, which is really fun for us.”

The technology in Batman: Arkham Origins will help with the timeless feel of the game, as the architecture and traffic will be set in a 1930s world, while the gadgets and things Batman will have access to haven’t even been invented yet. This coincides with Tim Burton’s version of Gotham City from Batman Returns as a place that seems to be dislodged from time and out of place.

Gotham City will be a multilevel experience, as towering skyscrapers, bridges, and the introduction of Old Gotham and New Gotham will expand on the territory the fans of the previous games enjoyed. Enemies will be placed everywhere, above and below you, bringing a whole new dimension of danger to the world of Batman: Arkham Origins.

Batman: Arkham Origins gets Deathstroke and a Silver Age storyline, but what could that mean?

Batman could be facing challenges mirroring the Christopher Nolan films in Batman: Arkham Origins, as the game appears to be bringing us back to the Silver Age of the mythos.  Batman hadn’t met all of the villains yet, and was still fresh from training after his decision to become the Batman.

The official story is that this is a younger and less refined Batman, not yet realizing that his actions to stop street crime are helping create a new level of villainy. If you look into Batman’s villain origins, you’ll notice that if it wasn’t for Batman and Bruce Wayne, very few of those villains would exist, bringing back the old dialogue from the Tim Burton classic where Batman faces off with the Joker in a round of “You made me.”

Batman is just starting to form relationships with major characters like James Gordon before he became commissioner. This could also mean Batman hasn’t had to face the Joker yet, and his gadgets haven’t all been fleshed out yet, giving the game a bit of an Assassin’s Creed feel of earning your weapons. The Joker may reflect the persona from The Dark Knight, inventing origin stories on the fly just for a sadistic laugh as he confronts his victims.

The Silver Age in the Batman comics was notoriously anti-violent, and as it ended, Deathstroke appeared on the scene, taking advantage of the almost ultra-violent freedom DC Comics then had. Being a masked assassin, almost the more serious version of Marvel’s Deadpool, Deathstroke could mean some seriously bloody combat.

Batman: Arkham Origins is being developed by the man behind Prototype, so brutal and unnecessary violence could be a very definite theme this time. In other words, you might not want to play this in the dark.

Batman: Arkham Origins has been announced and given a release date.

Before there was Injustice: Gods Among Us, there was Batman: Arkham Asylum. It gave Batman fans everything they wanted in a videogame. Neat gadgets, stealth gameplay, a lot of classic villains, and a darker toned Batman dominated the playing field. Some of us wished they could have just made an entire game out of the Scarecrow sequences.

Batman: Arkham City was more of what the gamers wanted out of the series, including a more open world to explore, and apparently no super-Joker that time, much to several gamers‘ relief.

Now we’re getting Batman: Arkham Origins, but from a new developer. Warner Bros. Games Montreal has replaced Rocksteady, the team behind the last two. Don’t start thinking they’re going to change the way it looks, though, as they’re still planning to use the customized Unreal Engine. Eric Holmes is heading up the production, and fans of Prototype and The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction should know his work.

According to IGN, the Batman villain Deathstroke is being added to the usual roster of bad guys in his Arkham debut. The story is as Game Informer explains, “[T]he game takes place years before both of the previous Arkham titles when a young, unrefined Batman encounters many supervillains for the first time.”

Warner Bros. has also announced a mobile follow-up for PlayStation Vita and 3DS, called Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate due on October 25 and set after the events of the game for the consoles. It is being developed by Metroid Prime trilogy team Armature Studio as is being called a 2.5-D action exploration title.

Batman: Arkham Origins is being planned similarly for an October 25 release on the current consoles, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC, with no mention of the next generation consoles.

‘Batman: Arkham Origins’ Details Announced is a post from: The Inquisitr

Injustice: Gods Among Us will have a playable demo on the Xbox 360 and the PS3 available next week.

Coming on the heels of the announcement that the game is getting a mobile app, NetherRealm has said it will allow people to get a first look at the fighting game set in the DC universe on April 2.

This game has had the hype machine going full force, in preparation for its final release on April 16. The full game will be coming to the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 as well as PC.

The demo will be live on the two current generation consoles in the United States one day before it is made available in the UK. Across the pond the demo will get an April 3 release.

Injustice: Gods Among Us‘ demo will will obviously not be the full playable version of the game but will apparently have enough characters playable to give you a good taste of what you can expect a few weeks later.

Wonder Woman and Batman will be the heroes you can play with in the game, as well as Lex Luthor from the villain’s side. There will also only be one arena that you can beat up and destroy.

That arena is the model of Batman’s home area, Gotham City.

Along with the announcement of the playable demo, NetherRealm and Warner Bros. has released a new trailer. This video shows one of the most recently unveiled characters in Black Adam, doing battle with Green Arrow.

While the full game will be available in the United States on April 16, it won’t be made available in the United Kingdom until April 19. Cherish those first few days when US audiences are the only ones who can take part in the epic battles.

Injustice: Gods Among Us will also have Black Adam as a playable character. The game developers have been slowly but surely releasing the names of the characters that will be appearing in the game. Among the characters that have already been announced have been some of the usual go-tos and some names that might not have been expected.

Superman and Batman have already been verified as two of the heroes that will make an appearance. Flash will be there too. As far as the villains, Solomon Grundy, Doomsday, Harley Quinn and Deathstroke were previously reported on.

There are also going to be some twists and turns in the game play as a DLC that will bring the story line of “Darkest Night” to the game. Shazam is another of the characters that will make an appearance in the game and that means that his mortal enemy simply has to be as well.

Injustice: Gods Among Us announced on their official Twitter page that Black Adam was going to be a part of the game. Black Adam is an Egyptian character who shares the lightning bolt powers of Shazam to the degree that, like Shazam he must actually say Shazam in order to activate his powers.

While this character may not be one of the most well known in the game series, he’s been around for quite a while. Black Adam made his first appearance way back in 1945 and became a sort of regular super villain in the 1970′s.

The total number of characters that have been confirmed for this game is now totaling 22 with the recent confirmation that Raven will be included as well.

‘Injustice: Gods Among Us’ Adds Black Adam As Playable Character is a post from: The Inquisitr

Injustice: Gods Among Us has increased its roster to include Doomsday, zombie Batman, and others.

Even though Batman has seen the best videogames out there, he isn’t the only character worthy of a good release. Thanks to Netherrealm Studios, the creators of the Mortal Kombat games, the DC Comics universe is getting its own fighting game. This time, thankfully, the Mortal Kombat cast is nowhere to be seen.

Batman will be there, of course. He’s the poster child of DC Comics videogames thus far. Not bad for an orphan who saw his parents murdered in front of him. The Dark Knight will be wearing armor much like what he adopted in Christopher Nolan’s films.

Superman, hailed as the only superhero whose identity is actually his superhero form (his alter ego is a mild-mannered reporter called Clark Kent), is here to prove his dominance as the most powerful hero of them all. In the Red Son DLC, he will also get a Russian backstory and outfit.

Flash, the fastest man alive, rings in with the ability to run rings around the opposition. His power originated from a moment when he was struck by lightning and a mixture of chemicals, and now he’s reportedly able to move so fast he can actually travel back in time.

Solomon Grundy is a zombie, regularly possessed by different souls. He’s super strong and hard to kill, and as of yet, has never been featured in a DC Comics book. His first appearance was alongside Batman in the videogame Batman: Arkham City.  He gets the same treatment as Superman with the Red Son DLC.

Harley Quinn is the Joker’s biggest fan, and a degree-toting psychiatrist to boot. Her penchant for violence gave her the personality necessary to fall in love with the Joker and take on the role as his main hench- er, person.

Wonder Woman is an Amazonian princess imbued with the powers of four gods, and sent to teach the human race how to live in peace. Ironically, this leads her to fighting a lot.  Like Superman and Solomon Grundy, she gets a Russian version with the Red Son DLC.

DC Entertainment is putting a new spin on Batman’s origins.

The company is revisiting Bruce Wayne’s past and exploring a different mythology behind how the billionaire playboy became the Caped Crusader.

Some of the key elements of the Batman mythos, such as the murder of Wayne’s parents, will remain the same, said Scott Snyder, who has written Batman since its 2011 relaunch.

“It’s not ‘let’s redo the origin,’” Snyder said Monday. “It’s time for a new story showing how Batman became who he is in the New 52.”

Snyder said the decision to rework Batman’s past came out of the success of the first year-and-a-half of New 52, which saw many characters in the DC Universe get new origins and costumes that blended their original appearances with their contemporary changes.

Snyder said that, in this new Batman mythology, readers will see what challenges Bruce Wayne faced prior to putting on the bat cowl for the first time.

This new version of the Batman mythology will go into effect in June in an 11-issue story called The Year Zero. The issues will be illustrated by Greg Capullo, who has been working on The New 52 with Snyder since 2011. 

“We tried to preserve as much of Batman’s history as we could and keep what we could of this history intact,” Snyder said. “It’s ‘The Zero Year,’ the one that no one has told the story of before. We see how Bruce became the Batman, built the cave, faced off with his first super villain.”

Snyder also said that the new mythlogy will not “take apart Year One,” the Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli four-issue arc that explored how Bruce Wayne returned to crime fighting after years away.

So what’s ahead for The Year Zero? While Snyder hasn’t explicitly stated which villain Batman would be dealing with in the new arc, he may have let it slip during a January interview with Newsarama. Snyder said, “I don’t want to give it away, but I tried to hint before that, like, Riddler is a character that we’re really going to be focusing on in 2013.”

The Red Hood Gang may also make an appearance in Year Zero if 2012 teasers are to be believed.

Batman isn’t the only superhero getting a new title launch in the summer. Snyder and Jim Lee will also be launching Superman Unchained in June, which will coincide with the release of the Superman reboot film, Man of Steel.

The “British Batman” has decided to reveal his identity to the world, but unfortunately, he’s not exactly the well-meaning amateur crime fighter the media made him out to be. Turns out, this Batman is more like The Joker … a practical joker, that is.

You’ll recall we covered a story a day ago about a man dressed as the DC Comics character Batman, who mysteriously brought a 27-year-old man wanted for burglary into a Bradford station to turn him in. The British Batman vanished into the night, leaving puzzled police officers with their wanted suspect, and making us all feel a bit safer.

The story made headlines worldwide, and like most such tales, the truth has totally ruined it.

After getting so much attention, the British Batman chose to come forward and disclose his true identity on Tuesday. He’s really a 39-year-old driver named Stan Worby.

That’s not so bad. We weren’t exactly expecting Bruce Wayne, were we? But that’s not what sucks about the story. What sucks is that the whole thing was staged.

Worby admitted that he hadn’t nabbed a criminal on the streets and brought him to justice as part of some amateur crime-fighting crusade. Rather, he simply agreed to accompany his friend (the suspect) to the station for moral support, and decided to throw on a Batman costume as a practical joke.

“Obviously it was done as a joke,” Worby told ITV’s Daybreak program. He explained that he had been to London’s Wembley Stadium earlier in the day, watching a local Bradford City team play in the English Capital One Cup soccer final, and decided to wear the Batsuit for fun. During the event, he was contacted by the suspect and agreed to take him in when he returned from London.

“Obviously he wanted to get straight down there and I wanted my bed as it was half (past) one in the morning,” Worby said.

He also said that the media was unfair to him for alleging that he wasn’t exactly in shape enough to be a superhero.

“I’ve got my full tracksuit underneath,” he explained.

So the real hero in this story is actually the suspect in question for turning himself in.

British ‘Batman’ Unmasked: Turns Out, He’s The Joker is a post from: The Inquisitr

British authorities got an unexpected visit from Batman last week when the caped crusader strolled into a local police station and handed over a wanted criminal.

An unidentified man wearing a vintage style Batman costume, complete with cape and mask, has apparently been fighting crime in the city of Bradford. Last week, he nabbed a suspect and delivered him straight into the hands of officers at the Trafalgar House police station.

A spokesperson for the Bradford police department spoke about the bizarre encounter to The Telegraph:

“Batman came into the help desk, stated to the staff ‘I’ve caught this one for you’ and then promptly vanished into the night.”

The crime-fighting superhero was captured on closed circuit television cameras as he reportedly dragged the criminal into the station in the early morning hours of February 25, much to the surprise of the officers on duty.

Media outlets have described the mysterious vigilante as a slightly overweight gentleman dressed in full Batman regalia.

While his costume was reportedly closer to what you might find in a Halloween shop than the sleek suit seen in Hollywood blockbusters, it certainly didn’t detract from his crime-fighting mission.

According to The Guardian, the unfortunate target of Batman’s brand of justice was indeed wanted by police. The 27-year old male suspect was quickly arrested on suspicion of burglary, breaching a court order, and fraud.

He is scheduled to appear in Bradford magistrates court on March 8 to face charges stemming from the handling of stolen property and various fraud-related offenses.

As for the curious Batman-attired vigilante, police have yet to determine his identity. However, because authorities had not publicly shared information about their search for the wanted criminal, they suspect the homegrown crusader may have known the suspect personally.

It remains to be seen if Britain’s Batman will come forward or, in true superhero fashion, remain a mystery.

The Dark Knight Rises‘ Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman) is set to take on a whole new role in the upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Gary Oldman has signed on as the newest cast member to the sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

As bits and pieces of information about the plot of the second film filter out, the cast is slowly but surely filling up. James Franco has been confirmed as not returning to the sequel after starring in this first movie. Franco’s character was an Alzheimers scientist who’s serum basically lead to the ape uprising.

Jason Clarke, who burst onto the Hollywood scene with his performance in Zero Dark Thirty has been confirmed as cast in a starring role in the second movie in the Planet of the Apes reboot.

The Dark Knight Rises star, Gary Oldman has now been confirmed by Fan Carpet as another member of the growing list of cast members. Oldman starred in all three Batman reboot films by Christopher Nolan. As James Gordon, we watched Oldman’s character go from a lowly and unliked police detective to the commissioner comic book fans know so well.

Andy Serkis, who has become something of a motion capture savant will also reprise his role as the first ape who gained super intelligence Caesar. Serkis is probably most well known for his recurring role as Gollum in the Lord of the Rings movies.

Digital Spy reports that the movie will be based about 15 years after the end of the first movie and super intelligent apes have driven the human race to the brink of extinction.

While a resistance group (presumably aided by Oldman’s still unnamed character) tries to fight for survival, Caesar will be trying to keep order in the new Ape community.

The Dark Knight Rises star has been busy of late as Oldman made an appearance in Lawless and will appear in the Robocop reboot. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will begin filming in the spring and is set for a May 23, 2014 release.

Robin the Boy Wonder, Batman‘s loyal sidekick, is getting killed by DC Comics.

Robin will die in a fight with an assassin in the pages of the Batman Incorporated comic book which will come out on Wednesday. Robin’s foe who brings about his demise is actually a clone of his own DNA.

According to the New York Post, Batman writer Grant Morrison said Robin “dies an absolute hero.” Morrison added “It’s all about the family and the family going to hell,” but asserted that Batman will eventually get a new partner.

Dick Grayson was the first Robin back in the day. The current incarnation of Robin is fan favorite Damian Wayne, Bruce Wayne’s 10-year-old son, who is his illegitimate child with Talia, the daughter of arch enemy Ra’s al Ghul, and who was trained by the League of Assassins. Batman and this far more edgier Robin have had a sometimes contentious relationship.

The Post notes that Robin has died before, but Damian Wayne is “the first to die at the height of his popularity with fans.”

According to Atlanta’s Channel 11, Robin’s death is not a total surprise to those following the contemporary comic book:

“Rumors have been circulating about Damian’s demise for several weeks, after the cover to Batman Incorporated #8 showed up on the internet. The cover features a cover similar to the cover of Batman #676, the first story which featured Damian — Batman, R.I.P. — showing the Robin emblem as part of the letters R.I.P.”

Superman and Batman are getting ready to fight crime together.

DC Comics has announced that the two characters will join forces for a new series. Dubbed Batman/Superman, the story will focus on how the two icons first met.

According to The Associated Press, the new series featuring Superman and Batman will be written by longtime Marvel writer Greg Pak and illustrated by Jae Lee. Pak explained that DC was giving the duo plenty of room to do some “important storytelling.”

Pak said that he intends to explore how the characters would react to one another during their first encounter. He told USA Today that there’s an “element of danger” to the upcoming series that he thinks people will enjoy.

He said:

“What would your reaction be if you saw a guy running around in a bat costume in the dead of night attacking people for the first time? And what would your reaction be if you met an alien who could crush steel in his bare hands for the first time. These guys are going to have very different immediate impressions of each other than we’re used to seeing with these characters.”

As for working with artist Jae Lee on Batman/Superman, Pak said it was a “no brainer.”

The writer added:

“That makes total sense. [But] he’s doing some cool new stuff and when you put these two characters together, they’ve got different palettes and environments.”

Pak explained to Geak Speak that a lot of the things readers learn about Superman and Batman during the new series will have an impact on storylines in DC’s New 52 universe. He went on to describe the books as “big and crazy and tons of fun.”

The Dark Knight has triumphed once again, but not over one of his colorful and eccentric villains: Batman’s latest victory occurred in a court of law against Adelphoi Ltd., which wanted to brand a line of cricket products with the term “Batsman.”

Batsman is a position in cricket, but Adelphoi has been told that it can’t use the term on cricket-related products because it would cause the public confusion between the sport and the DC Comics superhero known as Batman.

The Daily Mail reports that Intellectual Property Office adjudicator Oliver Morris shot down a trademark request for the name to London-based Adelphoi, which is a sound and design firm.

Adelphoi wanted the term for use with a wide range of cricket goods, but Morris ruled in favor of US-based DC Comics.

The judge said that “Batman is a very well known comic book character” and noted that the superhero has been around since 1939, reports The Telegraph.

The judge accepted the “conceptual dissonance” between Batman and Batsman, but said that the public would likely confuse the two terms for one another.

“The marks look (and sound) so close that the difference in concept is likely to go unnoticed,” added Morris. “If the difference goes unnoticed then the conceptual difference has no material effect. There is a likelihood of confusion.”

Would you confuse the cricket term “Batsman” for the superhero known as “Batman?” I don’t know about you, but if I’m looking for a cricket bat, I wouldn’t go to a comic book store.

While Ben Affleck is currently riding a wave that’s sky high for his film Argo, news leaked out that Affleck could have been Batman for the Justice League film. Weeks ago we reported that Joseph Gordon-Levitt may be a strong maybe to take on the role, and he still may be, but now news is circulating that Affleck could have been Christian Bale’s successor if he would have agreed to direct the film.

It’s not that hard to believe. Affleck currently has a studio deal with Warner Bros., who just so happens to be distributing the Justice League film. However, in the last few years, and certainly this awards season, Ben Affleck has been given a reputation for being one of the most promising director’s that cinema has seen in a long time. Would Affleck ruin his reputation by putting on the suit? That’s a resounding no.

Affleck, who already made the mistake of taking on Marvel’s dreadful Daredevil years ago, earlier turned down rumors that he was going to direct the Justice League franchise, and he won’t be Batman either, seeing as he tends to star in films that he also directs himself. Ultimately Affleck decided to pass on Justice League. It was reported that Warner Bros. has since demanded a rewrite on the script.

According to Badass Digest the problem in securing a director has much to do with the script itself:

“The story from each source is the same: it’s terrible. Some sources seem to think the whole movie is going to fall apart and never happen, while some believe that Warner Bros will keep moving forward, unwilling to lose the superhero arms race. Meanwhile the studio has been unable to get the interest of a quality director, reportedly because of the script.”

Although nobody seems to know why, it would appear that Warner Bros. has registered 15 different domains surrounding the title Batman: Arkham Universe. However, it’s unclear if this project is a movie or a video game.

Given the success of the Batman games as of late, it should come as absolutely no surprise that Warner is currently putting together a follow-up to the hit Arkham City. Since the series seems to increase its scope with each subsequent entry, Arkham Universe seems like a natural progression.

According to Shack News, fans wondered if the domains were linked to an upcoming motion picture starring the Caped Crusader. Rumors have been swirling that a Batman movie set inside Arkham could be in the works at the studio.

However, a Twitter user by the name of Superannuation pointed out that a multitude of DC characters are supposed to be in the next installment of the Arkham video game series. As such, it’s currently believed the title refers to a new entry in the interactive franchise.

The so-called “internet sleuth” tweeted:

“Sounds more like video games. Universe name would make sense since other DC characters are supposed to be in the next Arkham title.”

MCV reports that 14 other domains were registered by Warner Bros., many of which have Arkham in the title. The list includes such curious titles as Batman Arkham Legends, Batman Arkham Dark Knight, Batman Arkham Arises, Batman Arkham Night, Batman Arkham Stories, and Batman Arkham Begins.

Last night’s 18th Annual Critics Choice Awards saw The Twilight Saga win the fan voted Favorite Film Franchise prize.

As previously reported by TheInquisitr, the category is the first time in the event’s history that ordinary voters were included.

Other prizes at the Critics Choice Awards were selected by the Broadcast Film Critics Association, which consists of around 250 voter members working in local and national television, radio and online outlets.

As one might expect, Twilight fans mobilized and delivered a resounding win for the The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 — which was the specific film in contention.

It’s been something of a record week for The Twilight Saga.

The Critics’ Choice accolade follows a win for Favorite Movie Fan Following at the People’s Choice Awards earlier this week, Nerdles reports.

Among the contenders for the Favorite Film Franchise award were a veritable who’s who of blockbuster titles:

‘The Twilight Saga’ Triumphs At Critics Choice Awards For Favorite Film Franchise is a post from: The Inquisitr

Michael Keaton, who portrayed Bruce Wayne in Tim Burton’s Batman films, said in a recent interview that he wanted the third installment of the series to be an origin story.

Keaton and Burton were both slated to return for Batman Begins, the third entry in the dark and brooding franchise. According to Worst Previews, Keaton and the studio butted heads over where the story should head next.

While Warner Bros. wanted something a bit more family friendly following Burton’s violent Batman Returns, Keaton was more interested in continuing the storyline in the same vein as the first two films.

Keaton said during a recent WTF with Marc Maron podcast:

“You look at where he [Nolan] went, which is exactly what I wanted to do when I was having meetings about the third one. I said you want to see how this guy started. We’ve got a chance here to fix whatever we kind of maybe went off. This could be brilliant. Didn’t want to do it, so I didn’t want to do it.”

Comic Book Movie explains that Michael Keaton has yet to see all three films in director Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. However, what he has seen has certainly left a mark on the man who was once Bruce Wayne.

Keaton said the recent Batman films:

“The guy who’s doing them now, Chris Nolan, he’s so talented, it’s crazy. But I say that like I’ve seen them, and I actually haven’t. I didn’t even see much of the second one that I did.”

Next up for Michael Keaton is director Jose Padilha’s RoboCop remake with Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, and Jay Baruchel. Unless MGM decides to shift the movie around again, the film will open in theaters on February 7, 2014.

Narrows, VA – The same weird, off-the-wall conspiracy theory that purports to connect the Newtown school shootings with The Dark Knight Rises movie caused schools to close today in Giles County, Virginia.

A map seen in the third Batman film that identifies a targeted area as Sandy Hook also apparently identifies “Narrows” as another so-called strike zone according to a conspiracy oriented website which is no longer online. In a posting, the website wondered whether the Virginia schools in that area could be in danger.

When word got out, all five schools in Giles County, Virginia, closed today as a result but are scheduled to reopen tomorrow according to WDBJ, although some parents and students are apprehensive.

Local police stressed that “that there has been no direct threat made to any school” but will be beefing up patrols around the schools. “We have to take this as serious information,” said Giles County Sheriff Morgan Millirons.

The Superintendent of Schools sent out the following letter to parents about the perceived threat, which stated in part:

“On the evening of Dec. 27th, 2012, the Giles County Sheriff’s Department, the Town of Narrows police department, and the Giles County Schools, were notified by the Va. State police regarding information on a website. This website discussed the shootings that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut. Included in this discussion on the website was how ‘Sandy Hook’ was referenced in the Batman movie The Dark Knight Rising. This reference was in a map that appeared in a scene in this movie. Another zone on this map appearing in the movie was ‘Narrows.’ The author, who posted this article, did an online Google search based ‘on a hunch’ for ‘Narrows Schools.’ From this search, information for Narrows Elementary/Middle School and Narrows High School appeared.

“Based on this information, we have been in communication with our local law
enforcement officials (i.e. — the Sheriff’s Department and Town of Narrows police) to
discuss this issue further. Additional precautions have been taken for the immediate
future and additional safeguards will be installed at each of our facilities in the near
future.”

Note that the name of the Batman movie is slightly misidentified in the letter.

Redditor morphinapg wondered what it would look like if you merged the faces of every actor who has played Bruce Wayne/Batman in the long-running and successful film series that started in 1989 with Tim Burton’s Batman. Combining the faces of Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale, and even a pinch of Adam West, the end result is the cold, methodical, and haunted face of the man who swore to avenge the deaths of his parents by running around at night dressed up like a bat.

As long as this Bruce Wayne sounds like Kevin Conroy, he’s alright by me.

Christopher Nolan has been discussing the differences between the new Superman movie, Man of Steel, and his critically acclaimed Dark Knight saga.

Nolan is producing Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel and also created the movie’s story alongside David S. Goyer, who later went on to write the screenplay.

Talking to the British magazine, The Playlist, Nolan stated, “I wouldn’t want people to think we’re doing for Superman what we did for Batman. It’s very much Zack’s film and I think people are going to love what he’s done.”

Nolan also added, “Superman is a completely different character than Batman. So you can’t in anyway use the same template, but David Goyer had this brilliant way to make Superman relatable and relevant for his audience. Zack has built on that and I think it’s incredible what he’s putting together.”

Man of Steel promises to be one of the biggest movies of the next 12 months, but Nolan also revealed that the production team are still hard at work on the epic, noting, “[Zack]‘s got a lot of finishing to do … Superman is the biggest comic book character of them all and he needs the biggest possible movie version which is what Zack’s doing. It’s really something.”

Snyder’s movie is filled with great acting talent and stars Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as Jonathan and Martha Kent, and Michael Shannon as General Zod. Man of Steel will be released on June 14, 2013.

The original Batmobile from the 1960s Batman TV show will be sold at auction early next year, its owner has confirmed.

The iconic vehicle, a black and red-pinstriped monster that was used by Adam West’s Batman, will be open to bids in a January 19 auction at Barrett-Jackson, a rare and classic auto auction house in Scottsdale, Arizona.

If you’re thinking of making the trip to Arizona to grab your very own slice of Batman history, I advise you take a few briefcases of banknotes. While neither the auction house or the car’s owner George Barris would reveal the reserve price for the vehicle, chief executive of Barrett-Jackson Craig Jackson warned:

“Let’s just say it’s in the multimillions. The car is true Americana. It’s hard to put a dollar figure on something like that.”

The one-off vehicle, a two-seater Lincoln Futura concept car, was entirely hand-built in 1954 by Ghia Body Works in Turin, Italy. It was unveiled in its original white paint finish in 1955 at the Chicago Auto Show.

Ten years later in 1965, 20th Century Fox Television asked Barris to devise a car that could defeat Batman’s enemies. Barris set about working on the car in his auto shop in North Hollywood. Within 15 days, and having spent just $15,000, Barris had transformed the Lincoln into the beast we know today from the classic show.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt might be suiting up as Batman in the upcoming Justice League movie, according to Worst Previews.

If you haven’t seen The Dark Knight Rises all the way through till the end, then you might want to skip this article altogether. In short, there are a few spoilers head.

Since the final installment of director Christopher Nolan’s epic Caped Crusader trilogy ends with Gordon-Levitt’s character stumbling across the Batcave after Bruce Wayne rides off into the sunset, many have wondered if he will star as Batman in future installments. Now rumors are suggesting the actor could portray the superhero in the upcoming Justice League film.

When asked if he had any interest in portraying Batman in Warner Bros. upcoming project, Gordon-Levitt gave a decidedly cryptic response.

“If the script inspires me and if there’s a filmmaker that I respect and connect to … I’d consider anything,” he replied.

According to Hitflix, the studio behind The Dark Knight Rises and the upcoming Man of Steel is close to finalizing a deal with the actor. Although Warner Bros. isn’t saying the deals are related to the Justice League project, it would seem recent conversations have something to do with the Batman franchise.

Many websites have speculated that Warner Bros. could be creating a Justice League movie on par with Marvel’s The Avengers. If this turns out to be the case, then Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Man of Steel star Henry Cavill could be headed into a very lucrative superhero franchise.

During an interview with TG Daily, director Zack Snyder comment on rumors that his upcoming Superman film could tie into the Justice League movie.

“There are a lot of gears that have to turn in the world of commerce and the world of the mythology we create to facilitate more adventures for this character. We’ll see what happens,” he explained.

Hey, where was The Joker during The Dark Knight Rises?

It’s one of the better questions asked about Christopher Nolan’s third entry in the immensely popular Dark Knight Trilogy. With The Joker having been taken into custody at the end of 2008′s The Dark Knight, we all know he’s probably still alive in the film’s canon, though there’s no mention of him throughout Rises, nor does he seem to escape imprisonment after Bane releases Gotham’s criminals halfway through (at least, not that we see).

While the short and easy answer is “Heath Ledger passed away,” many fans were still hoping for a glimpse at his Clown Prince of Crime or at least a mention. They got neither.

Enter the fan-film circuit, who seek to answer some of these questions with their own creative endeavors. Writer and director Tito Guillen put together a short Batman fan film that shows the prison break of The Dark Knight Rises in a “deleted scenes” fashion, and the center piece of it is the fate of The Joker.

There are a couple of problems with the film. Though it was well-shot and offers plenty of fun cameos from the Batman Rogues Gallery, the biggest error is the location. If Guillen is trying to tie his short film, Arkham Rising, to the continuity of The Dark Knight Rises (suggested by Bane’s appearance, dialogue, etc.) then he made one major boo boo.

Bane broke the inmates out of Blackgate prison, not Arkham.

You could make the argument that he went to Arkham as well, but they state pretty clearly in The Dark Knight Rises that the prisoners from the mental institution were moved to Blackgate under the Patriot Act-esque “Dent Act,” and the film’s novelization says that there’s only one inmate left at Arkham. You guessed it: The Joker.

So, not to nit-pick or anything, just needed to get that out there as a Batman fan myself. Otherwise, nicely done!

Armie Hammer is the latest celebrity superhero after saving a woman from a car wreck last Friday night.

Hammer is a rising star in Hollywood with an upcoming role in The Lone Ranger and significant Batman buzz and has earned celebrity superhero distinction after he and model Leeann Tweeden intervened in a tragic situation last week, reports E! News.

Draw comparisons to Ryan Gosling or Newark Mayor Cory Booker here. Tweeden wrote on her Facebook page:

“So random random RANDOM. I was sitting in my house when I hear an accident tonight. I throw on my shoes and run out of my house to see if I can help. I see it’s on my (busy) corner and run down that way. I run up as a guy is helping an older woman (60ish?) out of her smashed up car that both airbags deployed in.

“Now mind you, it’s rush hour at a busy intersection. People are honking at other cars because one lane is blocked and people can’t go through the debris in the open lane fast enough for others.

“But it’s me and this guy helping the woman (2 other girls are there. One was a witness on her Vespa. The other in her car in the parking lot of the flower shop.)”

Tweeden expressed her surprise when she found out that the “guy” wasn’t just a random Good Samaritan:

“When the guy turns around, who is it?!!!! None other than: ARMIE HAMMER!!!!! (Yes, from the Social Network, J. Edgar and the upcoming The Lone Ranger with Johnny Depp!)

“Yes, ladies. The cutie Armie was in the opposite turn lane in his Audi and watched the whole thing go down and got out of his car to help. Me and him. Out of millions in LA.”

Tweeden said that no one was seriously injured in the wreck.

As stated above, Armie Hammer is a serious contender to take up the mantle of Batman for the upcoming Justice League film, which will potentially see a new, rebooted series of Batman films. His casting probably depends on the success of The Lone Ranger, as Hammer isn’t quite household status yet. Still, the fact that he was originally considered for the role several years ago and has come up in conversations yet again is encouraging for the 26-year-old actor, and real-life heroic headlines certainly can’t hurt his chances.

Just like Inception before it, Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises spurred significant discussion regarding the final scenes in the closing chapter of the latest bat-verse. Luckily, a recent interview with co-writer Jonathan Nolan cleared the air a little bit. Okay, a very little bit.

SPOILERS: This is your only warning.

Many questions came up after the closing scenes of The Dark Knight Rises. Though some were attributed to poor continuity on the part of Nolan and co., some fan-boys (myself included) wanted genuine answers to come of our questions. Is Bruce Wayne really dead? Did Alfred just imagine him at that café? Is John Blake meant to become the next Batman? Is he supposed to be Robin? Nightwing? Batman Beyond? What?

It seems unlikely to many fans that Batman could just up and save the day by sparing Gotham City from a nuclear blast only to ditch The Bat last minute, use the “clean slate” tech to wipe his identity from the system (along with Selina Kyle’s criminal record), and live happily ever after with the woman who spent the entire movie trying to steal his stuff and get him killed under the radar in Europe. In fact, it seems more likely that Alfred, broken emotionally by the events of the film, simply imagined Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle at the café, following along with the not-so-subtle foreshadowing earlier on. It was pure wish-fulfillment, right?

And then there’s John “Robin” Blake, played effectively by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, whose only real purpose in the film seemed to be giving an broke Bruce Wayne a ride that one time and inheriting the Bat cave in the end. His real legal name, revealed in the final moments of the film as “Robin,” had fan-boys a-buzzing, predicting that the franchise would turn into one based on Batman’s comic book side-kick of the same name. Yeah, that doesn’t sound completely lame at all.

There have been some good theories on both of these points, but what do Christopher and Jonathan Nolan have to say for themselves?

Jonathan, who co-wrote the screenplay for The Dark Knight Rises, basically said that he thinks it’s adorable how we all have our own theories about the ending, and fell backwards upon the time-honored “it’s open to viewer interpretation.” He did, however, clarify that John Blake’s legal name of “Robin” was only intended as a wink to Batman fans, and that we shouldn’t read into it any more than that.

“It’s a wink at the audience,” says Nolan. “I think, what we endeavored to do, was not the complete story of Batman, but our complete story of this character. … The wink towards Robin was an acknowledgment that he liked the character, and I liked the character. It’s a huge part of that universe for 70 years.”

So the implication at the end of the film after John Robin Blake inherits the Bat cave and quits his day job is simply that he’ll use those tools to make a difference in Gotham City the same way Bruce Wayne did as Batman. He’d probably adopt his own persona or simply use the tools in a different way, but he won’t be the comic book version of Robin, Nightwing, or likely even Batman.

The notorious Apple Maps app is the reason that Batman lost pseudo-girlfriend Rachel Dawes in The Dark Knight — and the reason that he had to drive the batpod through a shopping mall — according to a hilarious parody video.

Apple’s Maps app has been criticized by nearly all quarters (if you don’t believe me, Google “Apple Maps sucks”), but the best summary of its flaws (at least, the most humorous) is found in a parody video of The Dark Knight. The scene used is one of the most familiar in the film: the tail-end of Batman’s interrogation of the Joker after which he jumps on the batpod and races to save the life of love interest Rachel Dawes.

In the re-dubbed video, Batman consults the Apple Maps app to help him reach the address given to him by the Joker and is taken on a hilarious comedy-of-errors type ride, criticizing the app openly for taking him in the wrong direction several times and short-cutting him through a shopping mall.

Now, let’s be fair: Apple Maps doesn’t completely suck, but enough people have had a few headaches over it for this Dark Knight parody to be worthwhile even if you’ve only been attuned to the gossip. The iOS 6 app was condemned quite a bit upon its debut with Apple promising that they would improve it over time. One of the many criticisms was the loss of Google’s “Street View,” which has since been added to mobile devices, reports The Appera blog.

Justice League is one of those DC Comics film properties that has a standing reservation in development hell. Still, producers are talking about it again, and they’re once again trying to picture Armie Hammer as the man under Batman’s mask.

Armie Hammer (The Social Network, The Lone Ranger) isn’t exactly a household name, but the 26-year-old actor is talented and steely, evoking a young Robert Redford (or at least a lighter-haired Jon Hamm). Back when the Justice League film was in development in 2007, then-unknown Hammer was reportedly in the running (some outlets say he was even cast) as Bruce Wayne/Batman. The Justice League effort tanked, and DC moved out of its own way to allow Christian Bale’s Batman to make all of the money.

Now that the Dark Knight Trilogy is over, and in light of Marvel’s The Avengers‘ unprecedented success, the studios are once again trying to get Justice League on its feet, and they’re reportedly looking at Armie Hammer for Batman once again.

What we know about Justice League so far: Will Beall (Gangster Squad) has been hired to write the screenplay, and Ben Affleck is rumored to be Warner Bros’ top choice for the director’s chair. Furthermore, Justice League might do the reverse of what Marvel is doing: instead of building up to the team film, they’ll debut with it and then break each character off into their own franchises (it should be noted that the upcoming Man of Steel will follow in the footsteps of Nolan’s Batman trilogy, meaning that Henry Cavill’s Superman won’t make the Justice League cut).

Hammer being back in the running is only a rumor at present, so don’t take it as gospel. Still, Warner Bros. wanted to cast him as Batman back when he was an unknown, so they have to like him even more now that he’s carving out a name for himself. Depending on the success of The Lone Ranger (helped, no doubt, by Johnny Depp), Hammer could become a bankable and recognizable star.

Director Christopher Nolan’s finale to his epic Batman trilogy The Dark Knight Rises is slated to hit retail shelves just in time for the holiday season. According to Entertainment Weekly, the film — which stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt — is sure to top shopping lists when it arrives on DVD and Blu-ray on December 4.

In true Hollywood fashion, you can own The Dark Knight Rises in a number of different formats. A limited edition Blu-ray/DVD combo pack will be made available to Batman-savvy consumers, though it will certainly put a considerable dent in your holiday budget. In an effort to sway you towards the higher-end offering, this set comes packaged with a pretty nifty Batman cowl, which is sure to impress anyone with an affinity for the Caped Crusader. In other words, it’s probably well worth the money.

Additionally, the Blu-ray version of The Dark Knight Rises sports an impressive number of special features and behind-the-scenes documentaries. Unfortunately for those who were hoping that Christopher Nolan would sneak a few deleted scenes onto the disc, Worst Previews points out that there is currently no excised footage to be found anywhere on the home video release.

Since some folks have yet to make the jump from standard definition to high definition, The Dark Knight Rises will also hit DVD on December 4. Additionally, a digital version of film will be made available for download to those who feel that physical media is an antiquated concept.

Although the Batman fan in me is eager to drop some serious cash on the limited edition version of Christopher Nolan’s highly enjoyable feature, I know that, somewhere down the line, Warner Bros. is going to offer up a substantial Dark Knight Trilogy box set. I can live without the cowl if the studio releases all three films in some sort of cool, limited edition packaging.

According to a recent study, guys who identified with Bruce Wayne and his alter-ego Batman are more likely to feel satisfied with their own bodies than those who aren’t fans of superheroes. The Caped Crusader isn’t alone; gentlemen with an affinity for Spider-Man and Superman are also more comfortable in their own skin. In a few cases, looking at photos of the Dark Knight even increased the subject’s strength. Sometimes it’s healthy to be a comic book fan.

Researcher Ariana Young, a graduate student at the University at Buffalo in New York, said that identifying with a strapping crime-fighter can be rewarding for certain individuals. “For some men, exposure to extremely muscular superheroes may actually have a positive effect. It may make them feel better about their bodies,” she explained to My Health News Daily.

Medical Daily reports that men often feel dissatisfied with their own bodies after catching a glimpse of a guy who is in much better shape. In fact, exposure to incredibly good-looking fellas on a regular basis can have a seriously depressive effect on some folks. However, Young theorizes that fandom may result in a completely different outcome.

Here’s how the study went down: 100 male college students were asked to look at photos of Batman and Spider-Man. Both sets of images had been slightly tweaked to show each superhero as a muscular titan and a 98-pound weakling. After requesting the subjects to pour over the aforementioned pictures, researchers discovered that those who felt a kinship with Batman and/or Spider-Man tended to feel better about their own bodies. Those who didn’t feel a connection, meanwhile, reported that they felt bad about themselves. However, these negative feelings subsided a bit when they saw Batman portrayed as a scrawny guy in a cape.

Sharon Lamb, a professor of counseling psychology at the University of Massachusetts, explained that comic books are doing precisely what they were intended to do. “The comic book superhero was invented to address male vulnerability. Men who have actually read the comic books are exposed to all sides of the superhero and not just his body type,” she said. “I think the study shows that boys and men need role models who are whole people, and if they get those kinds of role models, they feel better about themselves, their vulnerabilities and their bodies.”

The study was recently published in the The Journal of Experimental Social Psychology.

Filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises will not receive an extended director’s cut when the movie arrives on Blu-ray and DVD, according to the folks at Screen Rant. Last week, rumors were circulating that moments cut from Bane’s origin story would be inserted back into the film. Nolan, in an effort to keep speculation under control, has issued an official statement on the subject. If you were hoping for a longer version of the trilogy’s final installment, your dreams have just been shattered.

In addition to the extended home video release, Indiewire reports that the supposed “director’s cut” of Christopher Nolan’s action epic would get yet another theatrical release next June. The longer version of The Dark Knight Rises would be used to help promote Man of Steel, the Superman reboot Nolan produced. That, too, is nothing more than just a rumor.

Although a four-hour cut of the feature was reportedly pieced together early into post-production, Nolan explained that this is pretty much par for the course in the filmmaking process.

“Frankly, a lot of that is about music, about [composer] Hans Zimmer,” he said. “We’re going to cut this film faster than anybody can care about anything, so [Zimmer has] to find a way to score it so people feel what they’re meant to feel as they go along. By the end, the last two reels are practically a musical. That’s the way it works on all of the films I’ve done.”

Since Nolan works out most of the kinks during the scripting and editing process, very few scenes are left on the cutting room floor. The director is also granted final cut, which means he doesn’t have to bow to the whims of the studio. Hence, the version of The Dark Knight Rises you saw in the theater is essentially Nolan’s “director’s cut.”

Chris Pine talked up Star Trek 2 in a recent interview, explaining the coming Trek sequel’s strengths without giving away too much geeky detail. Most importantly, he said that J.J. Abrams is avoiding the recent trend in film franchises; making the second chapter the “dark” chapter. Pine specifically singled out Christopher Nolan’s popular Dark Knight Trilogy, saying that Star Trek 2 will avoid the dark and gritty touches made popular by the most recent Batman films.

Star Trek 2 isn’t due in theaters until next year, and Chris Pine, who played Captain James T. Kirk in the 2009 reboot and will again in its sequel, kept with the classic J.J. Abrams tradition of secrecy in a recent interview with Total Film. Though Pine didn’t discuss what the Trek sequel will be, he was careful to single out what it won’t be: Nolan’s Bat-franchise.

“We’re not making Batman,” he said. “That’s not our deal,” meaning that they won’t be pushing Star Trek 2 into darker territory like how the already-dark Batman Begins gave way to the darker The Dark Knight.

Still, the stakes in the sequel will be higher than they were in the original:

“Like the first one, there’s some serious issues being dealt with. And I’d say the threat is even greater in this one. The force [the Enterprise crew] are met with is much more frightening. It’s relentlessly action-packed and in terms of character development it goes places you’d never expect.”

Other rumors have stated that the film’s villain, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, will indeed be a force to be reckoned with. How Abrams and Pine plan to raise the stakes while avoiding the darkness in Star Trek 2 remains to be seen.

The Dark Knight Rises, director Christopher Nolan’s final entry in his epic Batman trilogy, has officially made $1 billion at the worldwide box office, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Caped Crusader’s latest cinematic adventure is only the thirteenth movie in history to make this much money. Somewhere in Hollywood, Warner Bros. executives are doing the happy dance.

Although the film enjoyed a domestic haul of $431.2 million, The Dark Knight Rises made an impressive $574 million at the foreign box office. Just this weekend, Christopher Nolan’s flick had a strong showing in China, earning an estimated $28.5 million and placing second at the box office. Overall, the film generated an additional $46.4 million in 64 territories, according to THR.

The Dark Knight Rises is certainly in good company. A quick look at the numbers at Box Office Mojo shows that the second installment in the series, The Dark Knight, has also earned a little over $1 billion worldwide. Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins, meanwhile, trails pretty far behind with only $372 million in worldwide ticket sales.

Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, another box-office giant released earlier this summer, has left its own sizable mark on the worldwide box office. Since it’s release last May, the film has generated a staggering $1.5 billion, much to the endless joy of both Disney and Marvel. Since Whedon apparently knows what he’s doing, it’s no surprise that the studio has asked him to come back for the inevitable sequel. The film may come to fruition sometime in 2015.

Although The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises have generated a serious amount of Hollywood cash, their achievements pale in comparison to those attained by director James Cameron. His sci-fi effort Avatar, which sits at the top the worldwide pile, has earned a whopping $2.7 billion. Cameron’s other feature, the 1997 romantic disaster flick Titanic, made $2.1 billion around the world.

One of the most commonly recognizable characteristics about Batman is his gravelly, growling voice. In Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight” film series, however, Batman’s voice was a little more than just rough and gravelly. The extreme roughness of Batman’s voice in this certain film series has sparked a funny viral video. This viral video reveals Batman to be none other than Cookie Monster.

The viral video was posted on August 21st. A YouTube user recreated a scene from the ”Dark Knight” series where Batman meets with Commissioner Gordon on the roof of a secluded building. Meaning to discuss crime in the city, Gordon has called upon Batman, but Batman only has one thing on his mind….cookies.

Suprisingly, Christian Bale’s Batman voice is growly enough to have Cookie Monsters voice mix decently well into the edited video (shown below).

NBC News reports that Christian Bale’s growly voice, along with Baine’s muffled voice have been topics of great debate.

Kevin Conroy, the voice of Batman in the 1990s FOX animation series, discussed the topic at length at Chicago’s pop culture conference C2E2 in 2008 and flat-out dissed Bale’s performance.

“Christian Bale is an excellent actor, he just got steered wrong,” Conroy commented. “Obviously someone should have stopped him and said, ‘You sound ridiculous.”

Even though Conroy’s comments were applauded, there was one reader that posted that such character direction was inspired by the original comics.

“The growling voice is not an original idea: it is referenced in the comics,” Brad wrote on screenrant.com. “In “Knightfall”, Robin makes a reference to Batman’s “gravelly” voice while talking to Nightwing. Yes, the purpose is two-fold: cover his identity, and to be intimidating. I grew up watching Batman on television, and wondered why no one recognized the voice of well-known Bruce Wayne.”

The rebooted version of Batman could make an appearance in the forthcoming Justice League movie, according to Cinema Blend. Following the release of director Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, fans of the character have been wondering how Warner Bros. will handle the further adventures of the superhero. Since Nolan claims he’s done with the series, it’s anybody’s guess which direction the franchise is headed.

However, rumors are starting to circulate that a rebooted version of the Caped Crusader will be featured in the Justice League movie should the project ever get off the ground. Batman-On-Film reports that whoever portrays the character in the production will more than likely be featured in the spin-off flick that will follow shortly thereafter. Who that individual will be remains to be seen. Of course, all of this Justice League talk amounts to nothing more than unchecked internet speculation, so be sure to take all of this information with a grain of salt.

As for now, it’s unclear who will handling directing duties on the feature. Although it seemed that actor-director Ben Affleck was on-board at one point, he quickly shot down those rumors during a recent interview. Immediately following Affleck’s proclamation, reports surfaced that Matrix masterminds the Wachowskis were being considered for the project.

During a recent interview on Jimmy Kimmel, The Dark Knight Rises co-star Joseph Gordon-Levitt stated that he had no idea where the franchise was headed or if he would even be a part of it. Since Nolan views his films as a trilogy, there’s a very strong possbility that the studio will ultimately take the series in a completely different direction.

Right now, all Warner Bros. has is a script by Gangster Squad scribe Will Beall. However, producers would love nothing more than to have the film in theaters by 2015.

Contrary to rampant internet speculation, actor/director Ben Affleck isn’t working on the upcoming Justice League movie over at Warner Bros. Although numerous websites were buzzing with rumors that the Good Will Hunting star would handle directing duties on the big-budget project, the man himself has stepped in to address the situation. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he’s currently not involved with the production.

“I’m not working on the Justice League. One of the problems with entertainment web sites is that they need to fill pages, and that’s how rumours get started,” Affleck explained during an exclusive Canadian interview. “Justice League sounds really exciting, but it’s not something I’m working on.”

Earlier this month, it seemed that Affleck was close to signing on for the project. Reports suggested that the script, penned by screenwriter Will Beall, was sent exclusively to The Town director. Although this would seemingly indicate that Affleck and Warner Bros. were close to inking a deal, apparently this isn’t the case.

Now that Affleck’s out of the picture, movie websites have latched onto another set of rumors. Worst Previews reports that Matrix masterminds the Wachowskis are in talks to handle the property for Warner. Apparently the studio was very impressed with how the duo handled the upcoming star-studded epic Cloud Atlas, prompting executives to add the directors to the list of candidates.

Should the Justice League movie ever come to fruition, it would feature a host of D.C. superheroes, including Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and The Flash. Since The Avengers was such a worldwide box-office success, it’s not surprising that Warner Bros. is looking to get the ball rolling on this project as soon as humanly possible.

As for now, a director for the high-profile production has not been announced.
