California based fast food chain Jack In The Box has released a new milkshake that is sure to appeal to the overindulgent in all of us.   The Bacon Shake is made up of  vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, a maraschino cherry and “bacon flavored syrup.” Interestingly enough while the Bacon shake is loaded with sugar and salt it has no actual bacon in it.  The Bacon Shake packs in 1,081 calories and 17 grams of protein.

According to Brock Keeling, a blogger at SFist, the Bacon Shake tastes

“Horrific!  A heavy, lingering bland with a touch of smoke that doesn’t go away,”

Bacon flavored anything is raging across America.  There is a company called J&D’s which manufactures bacon salt, a product that makes everything added taste like bacon.  They also manufacture bacon flavored mayonnaise and bacon flavored baby formula.  In stores across the south bacon flavored soda is on the shelves.  The NASCAR raceway in Charlotte announced a new dessert called the Funnel bacakonator which is a funnel cake covered with bacon and chocolate.  On the cosmetic front there is a bacon-scented cologne to absorb through your pores, while you’re busy digesting lunch.

There is actually an argument to be made that the world’s obsession with everything bacon has to do with a level of addiction.  Scientists have shown that fatty foods like bacon and cheesecake have a similar effect on the brain as cocaine. It make a lot of sense that this could be happening.  Basically indulging in Bacon releases a flood of happy chemicals in your brain called dopamine.  The high you experience is that beautiful feeling only a plate of bacon can provide.  Then you need another fix as soon as that one wears off.

In a defining moment for what Microsoft has become the tech giant has been ordered to stop handing out free bacon from a bacon cart in an attempt to lure Amazon workers out of their offices for poaching reasons.

Microsoft officials hired a local hotdog vendor to give out free bacon strips near Amazon’s headquarters in Seattle’s South Lake Union area in the hopes that they would listen to a Microsoft recruiter and jump ship.

The software firm apparently told the cart’s vendor Dante Rivera (Dante’s Inferno Dogs) that the event was for a Kinect promotion when in fact he learned it was for recruiting purposes.

According to the Seattle Times Rivera pulled the free bacon after he learned of the company’s true intensions. River said the ploy was a conflict of interest since he has worked with Microsoft, Amazon and the ad agency supporting the free bacon campaign over the years.

According to Rivera:

“I thought it would it would be best for me to step aside.”

Remember when Microsoft use to be able to say “come work for us we have the best programmers!” now they say “come work for us, we have free bacon.”

Forget everything terrifying you’ve read about the recession- housing market horrors, the whole double dip set of concerns or job losses.

There is another, sinister crisis no one is talking about- a bacon price surge. Prices for the delicious, fatty pork product hit a high of $4.77 a barrel a pound in May, and some bacon fans have reported prices of $6 a pound- a price point that could become more commonplace in the next few months. The cost increase has been put down to higher corn prices, which have affected the price of pig food.

According to CNBC, the “bacon community” (also known as humanity) is “outraged,” and the financial site spoke to bacon blogger Jason Mosley, who said:

“It’s going to be pretty tragic when you have your fresh ripe tomatoes and can’t have bacon for your BLT… Everyone is kind of freaking out about it.”

Mosley said the time may come when bacon lovers are forced to make some tough decision due to the looming bacon crisis:

“I think they’ll make cutbacks other places — stop buying other things so they can afford bacon,” Mosley said. He personally said he’s willing to cut back on some fresh fruits and vegetables — things like bananas. “Get some good tomatoes and lettuce and forget the other stuff,” he said.

If the cost increases hit my Trader Joe’s Uncured Ends and Pieces, it may be time to organize a march on Washington.

Yes, the nationwide release of KFC’s widely gabbed about Double Down “sandwich” is upon us, and foodie reviews are streaming in for the breadless monstrosity. So far, none of the critics are to crazy about the creation. Saying the sandwich “cries out for carbs,” the Village Voice basically deems the Double Down to be ‘meh’:

Lift up the top breast piece–which surely must be a half-breast cut latitudinally, and find two very thick slices of gummy white cheese (though pleasantly flecked with jalapenos that have some heat), and two picayune slices of bacon–and not bacon of the thick, heavily smoked sort, either… The chicken itself is stringy and none-too-tender, the taste of the cheese pointedly interferes with the mild chicken flavor, and the bacon is indiscernible if you bite down on the whole thing at once.

Sam Sifton of the New York Times was actually staked out by bloggers while he tried to find a Double Down to evaluate. Not amused, he makes reference in his review to “geek paparazzi (who) lurked anonymously in the bushes to watch and document the tasting.” Sifton describes the sandwich snobbily, clearly displeased with having to eat plebe food with the unwashed masses:

The “Double Down,” however, arrives at a new low: a greasy entree dish of chicken with bacon and cheese on it, slathered in sauce, that the company asks customers to eat with their hands. The chicken is watery within its soft casing of “crust,” the cheese familiar to anyone who has eaten food prepared by the United States government, the bacon chemical in its smokiness, the mayonnaise sauce tangy, salty, and sweet, all at once.

While Atkins purists will point out that the chicken is breaded, KFC is still grabbing headlines with their new “Double Down” sandwich- a deep fried monstrosity that replaces a bun with two fried chicken breasts. It’s not available nationally yet, but local markets are reporting on the sandwich, which reportedly consists of these components:

• 2 Original Recipe Filets
• Bacon
• Pepper Jack Cheese
• Swiss Cheese
• Colonel’s Sauce

“We didn’t have room for the bread,” is the official party line from KFC on the new item. Underwhelmed? So were the folks over at FoodGeekery initially when they sampled the Double Down. But that soon changed:

That’s it? That is the sandwich? That’s not worth five dollars. Oh… oh my God. That is the best thing ever. I don’t know what “Colonel’s Sauce” is, but it is like a party in my mouth. This is completely worth the five dollars. Unfortunately I’m going to end up weighing 700 lbs after this, but it is simply amazing.

So how much does it cost to throw a party in your mouth? The sandwich, currently available in Omaha, Nebraska and Providence, Rhode Island, sells for $4.99 a la carte and $6.99 with a side and a drink. And the calorie count? KFC estimates “just under 600 calories,” but the Vancouver Sun estimates a near 1,300 calorie count.

But come on- it’s low carb! Nebraskans, Rhode Islanders- have any of you tried it?

Three people are dead due to religious rioting in southern India after some jackass threw a pig.

More than a dozen people were hurt in the rioting, which stems from an the incident where a dead pig was tossed into an under-construction mosque. (Some reports say it was a school.)

Upon discovery of the offending swine, an angry mob convened and got all stabby. Three people have died so far, including a 15-year-old kid. Tear gas, “bamboo sticks” and random shooting has quelled the tantrums outbreaks for the time being, and crowds larger than five have been temporarily banned from gathering.

Have you ever wanted to virtually cook bacon on your iPhone? well as much as the answer is probably no, you now can with iBacon.

According to the official spiel, iBacon allows you to “Impress your friends as you cook bacon right on your iPhone or iPod touch!” The application takes advantage of multi-touch, vibrate and the accelerometer, allowing you to “pinch” the tongs to flip your bacon and “tilt” your device to drain off excess grease.

If you’re a bacon fan (and who isn’t) you might get some enjoyment out of iBacon, although I get the feeling the novelty would wear off pretty quickly, particularly when you could be cooking actual bacon instead.

The Inquisitr loves meat, especially bacon but we’ll settle for a good salami sandwich now and then too, so when we saw this remarkable dress made from both bacon and salami, we just had to let you know about it.

Jia Jem was trying to come up with something unique to wear to her ATHF birthday party so she created a dress made of meat.

I chose salami because it’s thin, keeps in one piece, and is quite cheap, and bacon because it looks very, um, meaty. I considered somehow vacuum-sealing sheets of meat with those sealers they have on the markets now, but the machines were too expensive for a one-time-only disposeable dress. I ended up using the K.I.S.S. method of construction, which involved a basic shift dress out of thick cotton. I layed the meat on top, then put clear vinyl over it and sewed tracks with clear thread. I used a wide stitch length to avoid perforating the meat to the point it might just… uh, slide down the bottom of the dress. I also blotted it all before sewing to get rid of as much grease as possible to avoid clouding the vinyl. Lastly, I made sure to bind the bottom of the dress with a strip of clear vinyl to catch drips. (I love talking about this; it’s so disgusting.) The whole project took about 6 hours, and I kept it refrigerated until the party. Good times.

I have to be honest here – I don’t get this thing about bacon. Yes I like it with a side of eggs and home-fries, and I’ll love you forever if you throw in a nice Montreal bagel to go with it. That doesn’t mean though that bacon is meant for anything else especially being used to decorate a pair of loafers.

It’s bad enough we have Bacon Vodka ( still think we should seriously shoot whoever came up with that idea) but does that really mean you should be forking over $60 for a custom designed pair of shoes that aren’t even made from real bacon – just a fancy fabric substitute. At least the beef jerky underwear were made from the real thing.

If you insist though on getting yourself a pair head over to the Keds store on Zazzle and fine tune yourself a pair of Bacon shoes, but guys before you get too excited this is a woman only offer at the moment – sorry.

I’m sorry but I never got this whole bacon is God meme that has become almost a subplot for all the stupid things found on the web. Sure, okay maybe I can grasp the idea that bacon salt might be a nice addition to the condiment tray but anything else beyond eggs on the side is getting ridiculous.

However that doesn’t stop some folks coming up with other ways to ride the bacon wave as you can see by the bottle of Bakon Vodka at the top of the post. Not happy with just perverting a great liquor the folks behind this abomination have a whole slew of different recipes you can use to speed up your trip to the Great White Telephone.
