Mariah Carey Will Be Back on the Big Screen

Mariah Carey did not take her Razzie Award for her Glitter performance to heart– she’s going to be back in December in Tennessee. To refresh your memory, this was the film that prompted Mariah to buy out all the economy class tickets on a plane in order to travel. Have her diva ways improved? Probably not, but let’s hope that her acting skills have. Star reports:

Vivendi Entertainment has acquired domestic distribution rights for Mariah’s road trip drama Tennessee, which premiered last spring at the Tribeca Film Festival. The drama is about two money-challenged brothers who take to the road to resolve their economic and health challenges. Along the way they meet a waitress — played by the one and only Mariah — whose dreams of a singing career have been dashed by a bad marriage.

Are you ready for this one? I might dare to see it, since it’s been seven years since Mariah’s Razzie, and I feel like she deserves another chance. Then again, I also love trainwrecks, so I’ll be happy either way.

Will Britney Have a Second Disastrous Year at the VMAs?

Are you as terrified as I am for Britney Spears tonight at the VMAs? The clock is ticking down, and I’m not sure if I want to see something fabulously sensational or watch Brit prove that she’s cleaned up her act for real. There’s also the possibility that she’ll whip out a performance after all, since MTV has kept us guessing.

9 pm ET SHARP, September 7th. If there are going to be any f-ups, it’s live! That always makes for a good time.

Jennifer Aniston’s “Showing Off Her Body”

If I ignore the conflicting reports (flaunting her single self vs. being engaged), I can concentrate on the ridiculousness that is this OK! mag report. They’ve made Jennifer Aniston out to be a heroine of the dating world, when what she was really doing was shopping and sightseeing:

“Indeed, Jen spent the next few days showing just how happy she was to be single, wearing flattering outfits and going shopping. She also spent time soaking in some culture, walking the halls of the Metropolitan Museum of Art on, where she spent over an hour admiring one exhibit.”

There’s a grain of truth to the lightweight sensationalism, even if it does describe Jen as “‘openly encouraging the attention, smiling, showing off her body, and creating photo ops’”: I’d be happy to be single after my ex gave everyone blow-by-blow account of the breakup. Maybe Jennifer’s not flaunting her singleness as much as rejoicing the fact that she’s escaped from such a cad. Now that I can believe.

Britney Nominated for an Emmy

This does not feel right to be blogging about, since it’s obviously the sign that the end of the word is upon us. . . Britney Spears has been nominated for an Emmy. The list hasn’t been trimmed of the fat yet (that’s in September), but Brit does have a place on the list! It’s for her How I Met Your Mother appearances, FYI. OK! Mag spilled on the nomination:

For her double-shot guest appearance as Abby on CBS hit How I Met Your Mother, Brit-Brit is one of 41 actresses on the official ballot released by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences to its voters. Keep in mind, this is the list that is whittled down to the final nominees for the September ceremony.

Other notable names also up for Academy consideration are Sarah Silverman for her guest shot on Monk; Mary-Kate Olsen, who won over many Weeds fans during her extended run as a pot-dealing Christian on the Showtime hit; Alyssa Milano for her role as Billie on My Name is Earl; and Scrubs star Sarah Chalke, who is on the ballot for guest-starring as Brit’s boss on How I Met Your Mother.

Give me a neurotic Olsen twin any day, or even Sarah Chalke, queen of the Wedgie Commercials. Just not Britney– I feel like it would still be giving her false hope.

Lilo’s “Special” Relationship with Samantha Continues

Lesbian or not, Lindsay Lohan would be better off if she would just come clean and stop sending all these mixed messages.

Or, even better, just tell her mom to shut up and stop confusing us, especially after she ambiguously commented on Linds’ lesbian rumors with “If she’s happy, I’m happy. That’s all I’ll say.” I’m not sure exactly what Dina meant, but I do know that the “happy” speech is usually used when a parent is secretly having a meltdown. (Well, that’s what it meant in my house, anyway).

What makes things even tricker is Lindsay’s rep’s statement after she was offered a rumored $1 million to come out in OK! mag. After Lilo turned it down, her rep responded “They sent offers and we passed.”

So are they saying that Lindsay turned it down because she wasn’t getting paid enough, or because she’s not a lesbian? The vagueness is killing me, especially now that we have more photos surfacing of Lindsay and Samantha looking extra close.

Did Sean “Diddy” Combs Change His Name AGAIN or What?

The trouble probably started up after Sean “Diddy” Combs rapped “They call me Puff Daddy. . . he’s back” on the O’Neal McKnight single remix “Check Your Coats.”

As soon as I saw this gem in US Weekly, I knew that I should ride it out for a while. Just as predicted, after we all thought that Sean “Diddy” Combs wanted his name changed back to “Puff Daddy,” his rep has swiftly gone around squashing rumors left and right. Surprised? Probably not, especially if you’ve already had to adapt by calling him Puffy, Diddy, and Sean Jean in the past!

“This is not true. There is no name change,” his rep told US Weekly after the reports of the change circulated.

One thing that really should have been sorted out was his MySpace page, then. If he didn’t want confusion over what the f- he should be called, do you think he should have posted “This is your boy Puff Daddy!!! Yes Puff Daddy“? His rep probably wants to kick him at the moment, and rightly so.

Talk about the perfect way to get ridiculed. Saturday Night Live is going to have a field day with this one.

Jessica Simpson: Bad at Relationships, Good at Other Stuff

“Other stuff” being her new country music career– get your minds out of the gutters! Jessica Simpson must be consoled since her on-off relationship with Tony Romo is pretty shaky, most likely thanks to none other than Papa Joe.

Besides that, it looks like Jessica has finally found her niche: her single “Come on Over” debuted at number 41 on Billboard country singles charts. That makes Jessica the highest charting debut solo artist of all time, beating out Brad Cotter and Miranda Lambert who had debuted at 42. I’m impressed, and so is Jessica:

I got chills and butterflies in my stomach. It felt like the first time I heard myself on the radio when I was 19. Country is where my heart is. It’s refreshing to share something that feels so close to home. I am so honored to become a part of the country community.

Yay! That’s something to take her mind off of the horrific managing rumors about her dad.
