Apple sells millions of iPad devices every single year and they sell even more accessories for those devices but the GoPad takes device constant tablet computer use to a whole new level.

GoPad allows users to attach their iPad around their neck with a corded attachment that makes it simple to carry the tablet while using it at the same time with both hands free for navigation and typing.

The accessory while a bit silly looking could be a great option for many working professionals such as nurses and doctors who tend to carry around laptops and other bulky devices throughout the day.

For $90 users receive a strap, harness and a companion carrying case. While first set to launch for iPad devices the company is also planning options for the Motorola Xoom, BlackBerry PlayBook, Samsung Galaxy Tab and the Amazon Kindle Fire.

Take a look at the device pictures above and let us know what you think. Would you be willing to use the GoPad in public with your tablet computer?

Apple’s profits have soared since the advent of iPhone and iPad based devices but that profit has come at the expense of the very company’s that have helped Apple succeed, wireless carriers. While Apple creates each iOS based device for an estimated price of just $150 they sell those phones to carriers for $600.

To get customers interested wireless carriers then turn around and sell iPhones back to customers for as little as $199 with a two year contract.

The school of thought has always been that the customers 2-year contract combined with required data plans for smartphones will lead to a return on investment, yet AT&T and Verizon stock has dropped and Sprint has recorded 40% losses since it started selling the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S.

One analyst tells the Los Angeles Times:

“The AT&T wireless model is broken. AT&T is basically subsidizing Apple’s revenues and profit growth.”

The system is broken because in order to compete many cellular carriers have had to offer “early upgrades” to keep customers. This essentially means that after one year a customer on a two year contract with an already subsidized phone is given a discount to buy another phone and up their contract for two years again.

There does appear to be one bright point for carriers, Google Android phones continue to increase in popularity and are often slightly cheaper to obtain.

One Verizon employee quips of the choice in smartphones:

“It depends what you like. Do you like the Androids’ faster download times, bigger screens, longer battery life and better cameras? Or do you like Apple?”

Do you think carriers put themselves in the position their in now by bowing down to Apple and the iOS system?

Last month, there were reports that Motorola was going after Apple with a lawsuit claiming patent infringement. Since then, German courts have ruled twice in the favor of Motorola, but the company suffered a minor defeat today when the court shot down a third patent case.

Judge Andreas Voss, the presiding judge on the patent lawsuit case, said Monday that Motorola Mobility didn’t show that Apple was violating the particular patent involved in this case, and so the judge came to the decision to reject the lawsuit.

Here’s more information on the patent in question, courtesy of Engadget’s report:

The patent in question, EP1053613, is considered essential to the 3G/UMTS wireless standard and, more specifically, pertains to a “method and system for generating a complex pseudonoise sequence for processing a code division multiple access [CDMA] signal.”

Motorola may have lost this battle, but the company does have two wins under its belt and there are still pending cases that need to be addressed before either side come out of the patent lawsuit war victorious.

Neither Motorola nor Apple have responded to requests for comment as of writing.

Much of the talk about Foxconn, the Taiwanese company that manufacturer the iPad and iPhone for Apple, these past couple of weeks has been in relation to the ongoing concern over its treatment of its employees however today bring s the news that the company suffered a major hack attack.

A group calling themselves Swagg Security; using an Internet Explorer vulnerability that had been left unpatched by a Foxconn employee, managed to break into the Foxconn network and leaked the login for every employee, including the company CEO, on to the web. They said that the only reason they attempted the security breach of the Foxconn servers was to prove that it could be done.

All the information gathered from the hack was bundled together and put up on the web as torrent which the group encouraged everyone to download and use. Apparently with the information you could place fake orders with the company using the names of Foxconn’s vendor partners like Apple and Microsoft.

They also released this statement about the attack:

“This is Swagg Security, we aim to to reshape your perspectives, our perspectives, by the inducing of entertainment. A unique approach to spreading a unique philosophy which brings the sought after tranquility. In a way we are “hacktivist”, but in our own views we are Greyhats. We believe there is no reality in hacktivism, even with good intentions. We know those who claim to be “hacktivists” that inside of you, a suppressed part of you, enjoys playing a part in the anarchist event of hacking of an infrastructure. One which at the same time presents a challenge, upon completing reveals an almost unknown feeling of a menacing satisfaction. We encourage not to continue quelling such a natural emotion but to embrace it. Only when embracing what society has taught you to hinder, is when you realize your own identity” Swagg Security statement

via SlashGear

Apple could be in for a bit of a hit. In a new lawsuit with a Hong Kong based company, they claim the company didn’t have the rights to use the iPad name on their popular line of tablets in China and are suing for a whopping $1.6 Billion.

Of course, this wouldn’t be too much of a hit to their upwards of $100 Billion in the bank, but that’s still not a good thing to have happen. The company claims that the trademark “iPad” was bought from them for $55,000. The problem however is that buying the trademark did not give Apple the rights to sell the iPad in China which is going to be a big seller over the next many years.

Via Fox News:

“Proview Technology (Shenzhen) said this week that it filed for a temporary restraining order in a Shanghai court to stop the Cupertino, Calif., maker of hot-selling electronics from using the iPad name in mainland China. “We have to admit that Apple’s iPad is a great product, and Apple creates great value out of that,” said Yang Rongshan, chairman of the Proview arm in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen, in an interview. “But this is not the reason to support their irregular practice here.”

“We’ve been negotiating with Apple,” Mr. Yang said. “I can’t tell you what the status is right now since this is a commercial secret, but so far their attitude is still quite ambiguous.”

If there’s truth to Proview Technology’s claims, it could mean big money for them.

Do you think there’s truth to their claims and that Apple owes them money?

If you’ve browsed through Apple’s App Store before in search for games, you’re likely already aware that there’s a disturbing amount of “games” in the e-store that are blatant, unapologetic rip-offs of other games on the App Store and/or other platforms.

Thanks to Apple, there are now far less of the clone games on the App Store right now. The company removed 59 clone apps from the App Store today, including such “greats” as Angry Ninja Birds, Plant vs. Zombie, and Temple Jump.

Natalia Luckyanova, co-founder of developer Imangi, is especially excited about Apple’s intervention. Temple Jump was a shameless rip-off of Imangi’s Temple Run, and it actually significantly surpassed the sales of Imangi’s game.

“We’re really happy with how quickly Apple responded to the situation and removed [Temple Jump],” Imangi co-founder Natalia Luckyanova told Gamasutra. “The app was clearly a scam that traded entirely on the popularity of Temple Run and was packaged to confuse users.”

“This was really upsetting to us and damaging to our brand, because we work really hard to put out very high quality polished games and win the love of our fans, and we don’t want them to think that we would put out crap to steal a dollar from them,” she said.

Apple’s move to purge clone apps from the App Store follows a week after Triple Town developer Spry Fox filed a lawsuit against 6waves Lolapps over its suspiciously similar iOS title, Yeti Town.

Apple is not known for “being” a social type company, far from it really, but that doesn’t stop it from recognizing potential for making money but incorporating the new social world within its products. We saw this with the baking in of Twitter to its news iOS offering and it seems that they are also looking into something called social fitness technology.

According to SlashGear this research was tipped off due to a patent filing titled “Interfacing Portable Media Devices And Sports Equipment”. The patent was originally filed back in October of 2011 but only surfaced this week in the trademark and patent office database. Additionally one of the names on the filing is Donald Ginsberg who heads up the Apple Made for iPod program.

The patent apparently outlines a way that your realtime work out data can be shared with any of your friends who are working out with you or on the same type of equipment. I guess the idea that you will be able to compare your data with friends anywhere in the world as you work out is something that Apple feels you will want to do. Personally if you are my friend you are the last person I would want to know how badly I am cheating on my exercise plan.

I am pretty sure that we can expect a disclaimer about how this is a bug and will be dealt with immediately, at least we hope it is a bug, but Tom Cheredar over at VentureBeat is reporting that users if iTunes Match are finding that songs in their collections that have ‘explicit’ lyrics are getting replaced with ‘clean’ versions.

Now the iTunes Match service is something fairly new from Apple and allows members to have legal access to any songs currently in your iTunes music library and for $25 per year you can download your songs from Apple’s cloud to any device running the iOS 5 operating system. It is here where the “glitch” is showing up in that only ‘clean’ versions of the songs are being downloaded, not your “explicit” versions that you wanted to listen to.

Apparently it has been confirmed that this has happened in regards to songs by Kanye West, Jay-Z, and Ice Cube. There have been several blogs that have reached out to Apple for confirmation but we are still waiting to hear back.

However as Tom Cheredar points out in his post on the news this bug does show that this isn’t a true cloud storage solution as what you download should be exactly what you uploaded. I think it also points out once more Apple’s puritanical tendencies but we’ll have to wait and see just how they spin this one to really decide.

Apple has been doing fantastically well these last several years. The company released their Q1 2012 earnings last week and the results were nothing short of amazing. The iPhone now accounts for a solid chunk of their revenue.

With the release of the iPhone 4S back in October, the smartphone has done very well and made it’s way into tens of Millions of consumer’s hands. Thanks to its success, the tech giant was able to catch up with Android in terms of market share and as of recently, is barely ahead.

Quite the feat from just a few smartphones compared to who knows how many Android phones currently available. Seems like a new one comes out just about every other day. Okay, that’s exaggerating, but there’s a lot of ‘em. According to Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty, Apple could sell as many as 40 Million iPhones next year, just in China alone.

The fact is, China is still a largely untapped market for the company. Morgan Stanley looked at three carriers: China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom. They then looked to see what percentage of high end subscribers have an iPhone.

The results are as follows:

China Mobile – 8 percent

China Telecom – 7 percent

China Unicom – 20 percent

Out of a combined 150 Million high end wireless customers, that’s pretty low. Again, there’s a lot of untapped potential for massive growth.

Via Mashable:

“The iPhone is currently available in China from carrier China Unicom. Despite it being unavailable on the larger carriers, China Mobile and China Telecom, Chinese buyers have responded to the iPhone in a big way. In fact, Apple had to temporarily suspend iPhone 4S sales in order to protect store employees from overly enthusiastic crowds.”

“Huberty believes that if Apple is able to extend its China partnerships to include China Telecom, the company could sell an additional 26 million iPhone units in calendar year 2013. That would mean 40 million units for the entire region.”

And if they want to really do well in the country, inking a deal with China Mobile, the country’s largest carrier, would be very beneficial.

Do you think Apple has what it takes to dominate the smartphone market in China?

Recently, the New York Times ran an article that detailed the harsh conditions workers are facing at a factory that supplies parts for Apple products, including the iPhone.

The report highlighted a number of disturbing instances of workers being consistently overworked. Workers are faced with constant and excessive overtime, and in some cases this lasted for a week straight. Workers were forced to stand so long that their legs would swell, and all of the factory’s employees lived in overly crowded dorms–and that’s not even the half of it.

Since the New York Times ran its report, Apple has been coming under fire from some, with calls for the company to promptly address the poor working conditions. Apple has yet to make an official public statement, but 9to5mac picked up an email that Apple CEO Tim Cook sent out to Apple employees, in which Cook says that the company will “dig deeper”.

Here are a few key points that Cook touched on in the email:

“Every year we inspect more factories, raising the bar for our partners and going deeper into the supply chain. As we reported earlier this month, we’ve made a great deal of progress and improved conditions for hundreds of thousands of workers. We know of no one in our industry doing as much as we are, in as many places, touching as many people.”

“We will continue to dig deeper, and we will undoubtedly find more issues. What we will not do — and never have done — is stand still or turn a blind eye to problems in our supply chain. On this you have my word. You can follow our progress at apple.com/supplierresponsibility.”

You can check out Tim Cook’s email in full at this link.

Macworld has been going on since 1985 and over the years, Apple has helped support the conference by attending. Unfortunately and starting back in 2008, the company said they would no longer be participating in the event.

This has definitely caused the conference to lack in attendance. Being that the tech company was there, it brought more interest and gave it that must go appeal. Now however, things have changed and the lack of them is definitely clear.

“Despite all the fresh new ideas on display for the Apple world from exuberant third-party companies, it matters quite a bit that the mothership isn’t here with her children. Attendance is down noticeably over 2010 and previous years, and there are fewer vendors showing their wares. There is more room to roam in the main expo hall, parking is easier to find, and that’s certainly good for attendees.”

“Although this still ranks as one of the most interesting and innovative of all the IT-related shows each year, the intensity has ratcheted down. Apple reported a high of 45,572 attendees in 2007; this year’s numbers aren’t yet available, but estimates are that between 10,000 and 15,000 people are at the show this week.”

The reason that Apple pulled from the conference is rather simple. Steve Jobs was not a fan of the conference and believed it was a distraction for the company and he does have a point. With that said however, to disregard such a large event that’s focused around your ecosystem, does make it feel like people are a bit shunned.

Would you ever attend Macworld or an Apple related conference?

That Apple iPad or iPad 2 you love so much can be a real pain in the neck and we’re not talking about it’s super simple to use interface, easy to operate camera or other user friendly features, it turns out the device itself might literally be hurting your neck.

A recent study conducted by researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health with the help of Microsoft researchers have found that a tablet user strains neck muscles more than a laptop or desktop user because they tend to place the device on their laps and then look down at the devices.

The lead author of the study told the LA Times:

“If you think about your position when you are hunched over looking down, your head is hanging out over space, so you are using your neck muscles to support the weight.”

It isn’t all bad news from the study, it turns out that Tablet users tend to shift their bodies and get blood flowing more actively which has been suggested for sedentary users.

Regardless of your weapon of choice (tablet, desktop, laptop), researchers suggest finding a comfortable spot to sit with good straight posture.

If you wish to avoid neck strain tablet stands are available for most major tablet designs, some also include built-in bluetooth keyboards which allow users to operate their tablet device in much the same way they do a laptop or desktop.

Do you find yourself straining when using an Apple iPad all day or have you figured out comfortable positions for using the best selling tablets?

Android tablets are becoming more popular and that means they’re taking up more and more market share. The iPad is still the top dog currently in the marketplace, but with dozens and dozens of tablets available, growth is increasing.

Now, the iPad 2 is a great device and has helped Apple propel itself to outstanding sales. Being that the iPad 3 is supposed to be released this year, we could definitely see these findings change however. The tech company has a very loyal following and very strong brand presence that has people snatch up their products like hotcakes.

With that said, let’s dive into the details:

“Strategy Analytics said Android tablets increased their share of the market to 39 percent in the fourth quarter of the year from 29 percent a year earlier. The iPad accounted for 58 percent of the tablet market in the quarter, down from 68 percent a year earlier, the Boston-based company said.”

“Strategy Analytics director Peter King said global tablet shipments hit a record 26.8 million units in the fourth quarter, up 150 percent from the same period a year ago. Apple sold 15.4 million iPads in the fourth quarter while there were 10.5 million Android tablets shipped.”

It’s a war between both Google and Apple. On one side, it’s competition and on the other side, it’s a bit personal. Steve Jobs vowed to destroy what he considered to be a ripped off version of iOS and with all sorts of patent lawsuits against manufacturers, the company is doing everything they can to crack down on competitors.

Do you have an Android tablet? If so, what do you primarily use it for?

Apple CEO Tim Cook announced during a recent Apple town hall meeting that employees will not be able to take advantage of an employee discount program that finally brings the company’s computers and tablets into competitive pricing ranges.

During the meeting Cook revealed that Apple employees can now receive $500 off the price of the company’s Macs and $250 off a brand new iPad device. The only system that appeared to be left out of the mic was the Mac mini, then again why would any Apple employee want to be seen using the company’s wimpiest desktop option.

In order to curb rampant abuse of the system Apple will only allow employees who have been with the company for at least 90 days to take advantage of the discount and current employees can only take advantage of the program every three years.

Up until this point the discount for employees was 25% and it’s still unclear if that discount will remain in effect during the three-year interval period.

Since CEO Tim Cook took over at Apple he has become more employee and charity focused then Steve Jobs, aside from this program he started a charitable donation matching program that encourages employees to give back to their community.

Do you think Tim Cook is doing a good job of turning Apple into a more “employee centric” operation?

Motorola Mobility is going after Apple in a new lawsuit claiming patent infringement in their iPhone 4S and iCloud product. Patent disputes are a dime a dozen in the tech industry and Apple has been one of the leaders in going after companies and manufacturers.

Now it seems the tables are turned. The company has been going after Samsung quite a bit lately, more recently wanting 10 of their smartphones banned in Germany. Anyways, it’s interesting to note that Google acquired the mobile division of Motorola (deal still pending) and could very likely be the force behind the lawsuits.

All in all, it’s a good payday for lawyers involved, that’s for sure.

Via Wall Street Journal:

“Motorola filed suit in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, alleging Apple has infringed on six patents related to mobile technology.”

“Each count in the complaint names Apple’s iPhone 4S, introduced last October, as an allegedly infringing device. Apple this week reported quarterly results that included record sales for the company, thanks in part to strong demand for the iPhone. The complaint filed on Tuesday also names Apple’s iCloud content storage service as an infringing product. The iCloud service was unveiled last year.”

Google and Apple representatives declined to comment on the whole ordeal. This could be the big G’s move to put the pressure on Apple who’s doing incredibly well in the smartphone and tablet market.

There doesn’t seem to be any sign of these patent infringement lawsuits slowing down any time here soon.

Do you believe Motorola Mobility and its claims?

The iPhone 5 is rumored to be available this summer, sticking with previous reports that the next generation smartphone will be out this year. This is a rumor of course and while there are many on the subject of Apple, it’s to be taken with a grain of salt until we get more details.

The iPhone 4S was recently released back in October and has gone on to be one of the best selling smartphones of all time in the tech giant’s history. A summer release is very early, but even if that doesn’t happen, a fall release won’t be surprising at all.

Specs are a bit scarce at the moment, but Mashable has some details:

“9to5 Mac reports that a Foxconn worker told them that the next-generation iPhone, tentatively called the iPhone 5, is gearing up for production. According to the report, there are several different samples, each of which varies slightly from the others, so it’s impossible to determine which will be final.”

“However, all the samples sport 4-inch or larger screens, which would finally put the iPhone into the same screen leagues as many of its high-end Android competitors, like the Droid RAZR. That of course means none of the samples have the same compact form factor as the iPhone 4 or 4S. The screen on one of the units is said to be made by LG; there was no screen info for the other samples.”

One of the biggest complaints about the latest smartphone was that the screen remained the same size. Seems that’s to change in the upcoming version.

If it comes with a larger screen, would buy the iPhone 5?

The iPhone is a very desirable gadget and something that people hold very near and dear. Some people will even wait days in line for the new one. Being that they’re highly regarded, that also means that thieves have their eyes on them.

In fact, just wearing the signature white iPod earbuds gives a thief the idea that you potentially have a valuable device in your pocket. One issue that’s been sprouting up with people stealing the smartphone, is that Apple support is unknowingly helping them.

The company relies off of the honor system and that’s definitely evident when taking the device into an Apple store where employees will help diagnose any problems, even repair the phone, long as it’s still under warranty, without needing much information.

Reuters has a story about one such issue:

“MIT graduate student Kayla Menard is among those who wants her voice to be heard screaming. She was sending a text from her 3-month-old iPhone while waiting for a train at Boston’s Park Street Station last month when someone snatched it from her hand and ran.”

“Days later she received an automated email that her damaged phone was repaired at an Apple Store. She went to the store to try to get back her phone, but they wouldn’t hand it over to her, and she was told there was nothing they could do. “Because I don’t have possession of the phone, they won’t help me at all,” she says.”

“Menard says she was astonished to find out that Apple wouldn’t help, even though they had her phone. Because someone else had brought in the phone, she was told, the store could not return it to her. She says she believes the thief was sold a new phone at a discount.”

Apple declined to comment on the whole ordeal, but it seems to be a real problem. What would you do if someone stole your iPhone?

Apple announced their Q1 2012 earnings yesterday that absolutely blew past all expectations while also smashing previous records for revenue, profit, and sales. One product that particularly shined was the iPad, the very popular tablet that still commands most of the market.

Although that did well, so did sales of the Mac which were up 26% compared to the previous quarter. Once being a huge money maker for the company, the iPod is now much less of a money maker. Sales of iPods were down 21% which shows that more people are buying either iPhones or iPads. At the end of the day, the iPod Touch is a stripped down version of the smartphone.

Via Apple Insider:

“Apple has surpassed HP in both computer unit sales and revenues for the first time, taking the top spot sooner than expected on record sales of iPads. Rather than losing sales to low priced tablets, Apple said it would “continue to innovate like crazy” in the tablet arena.”

“Apple reported record quarterly sales of 15.4 million iPads and 5.2 million Macs, giving the company over 20 million sales of dedicated personal computing devices (distinct from its sales of more than 37 million phones). Gartner reported HP’s worldwide sales for the fourth quarter to be 14.7 million, while Lenovo and Dell sold 12.9 and 11.6 million units, respectively.”

For the first time ever, we’re starting to see PC sales slightly decline while interest in tablets goes up. While desktops and laptops won’t be replaced anytime soon, it shows an interesting shift to touchscreen devices and the convenience of them.

Do you own an Apple iPad?

Apple has finally done it. With blockbuster earnings in the fourth quarter of 2011 Apple has become the most valuable company in the world.

Apple experienced massive purchases of its shares breaking the $400 Billion threshold and above ExxonMobil’s (The previously most valuable company in the world) price tag for the first time since August 8, 2011.

Apple had held the spot in the first quarter of the year but a disappointing first quarter earnings report sent Apple shares down 14%.

At more than $420 billion, Apple’s market cap is almost twice as high as that of Microsoft. Microsoft is the number 2 technology company in the world by market value.

There is a buzz among investors at this point that Apple may begin to start paying a meaningful dividend some time in the future. Apple has long resisted doing so.

Barclay’s Investment house said the following in a statement,

“We do believe the company should examine a meaningful dividend closely and are intrigued by the possibilities around any sizeable acquisitions that could improve its wireless and online services,”

Apple shares also trashed all-time records. Their previous record of $431.36 was hit earlier this month. Maintaining it’s strong rally from late Tuesday, Apple was trading up 6.87% to $449.15 shortly after the opening bell. The company opened over $450.00 per share when the bell was rung.

Apple has fared extremely well under new CEO Tim Cook, and it seems as if fears of the loss of Steve Jobs may have been overstated. Cook is seeing Apple reach highs that were not really thought possible just earlier this year.

Do you think Apple is worth the hype?

Apple isn’t letting up anytime soon and they remain one of the most successful tech companies on the planet. The company announced their earnings, among other things, for the first fiscal quarter of 2012.

Basically, they blew past all estimates and managed to do incredibly well, breaking many previous records both in terms of profits, revenue, and devices sold. With the release of the iPhone 4S back in October and success of the iPad 2, it’s really no surprise that the company managed to pull off another great quarter.

Increasing interest in the devices and their strong brand presence, fueled the growth.

Via TheNextWeb:

“Apple today announced its earnings for its first fiscal quarter of 2012. Apple’s revenue amounted to $46.33B in Q1. With earnings of $13.87 per share. The company’s net profit in Q1 was $13.06B. These numbers destroyed industry estimates across the board in every area of hardware sales and profitability aside from iPods.”

“Apple sold 37.04M iPhones, up 128% year over year, and 15.43M iPads this quarter, up 111% year over year. Apple sold 5.2M Macs during the quarter, bringing sales up 26% when compared to the same quarter a year ago. iPod sales were down 21%.”

It’s interesting to note that sales of the iPod continue to go down. More people are opting for the smartphone as it does everything the Touch does, as well as, uhh, you can make phone calls.

“We’re thrilled with our outstanding results and record-breaking sales of iPhones, iPads and Macs,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “Apple’s momentum is incredibly strong, and we have some amazing new products in the pipeline.”

Is Apple too big to fail?
