Apple isn’t letting up anytime soon and they remain one of the most successful tech companies on the planet. The company announced their earnings, among other things, for the first fiscal quarter of 2012.

Basically, they blew past all estimates and managed to do incredibly well, breaking many previous records both in terms of profits, revenue, and devices sold. With the release of the iPhone 4S back in October and success of the iPad 2, it’s really no surprise that the company managed to pull off another great quarter.

Increasing interest in the devices and their strong brand presence, fueled the growth.

Via TheNextWeb:

“Apple today announced its earnings for its first fiscal quarter of 2012. Apple’s revenue amounted to $46.33B in Q1. With earnings of $13.87 per share. The company’s net profit in Q1 was $13.06B. These numbers destroyed industry estimates across the board in every area of hardware sales and profitability aside from iPods.”

“Apple sold 37.04M iPhones, up 128% year over year, and 15.43M iPads this quarter, up 111% year over year. Apple sold 5.2M Macs during the quarter, bringing sales up 26% when compared to the same quarter a year ago. iPod sales were down 21%.”

It’s interesting to note that sales of the iPod continue to go down. More people are opting for the smartphone as it does everything the Touch does, as well as, uhh, you can make phone calls.

“We’re thrilled with our outstanding results and record-breaking sales of iPhones, iPads and Macs,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “Apple’s momentum is incredibly strong, and we have some amazing new products in the pipeline.”

Is Apple too big to fail?

Information is starting to filter in from the lucky bloggers who are liveblogging the Apple event today.

We’re watching out for any exciting developments. So far, we’ve heard about:

A Genius DJ is going to create 12-song mixes from your iTunes library. Spiffy;

App syncing, so you can manage apps in iTunes.;

“Home sharing,” something that allows you to do more with content among 5 computers;

Genius for apps;

Ringtones priced at $1.29.

Updates!

Cool, looks like the app store is getting better functionality. It’s about damn time, Jobs;

More on home sharing. I can’t wait to see what that’s completely about;

Lyrics in iTunes, less sketchy lyric site visits can only be a good thing;

iTunes 9 available today!

Marketshare: iPod’s 73.8%, Sandisk 7.2%, and Microsoft 1%. The rest is other companies (duh.) Suck it, Microsoft.

More updates!

Stuff about games and stacking up to the Nintendo DS. I like some games, but am I the only person who thinks “Tap Tap Revenge” sucks? WordJong pees on it from a height. FROM a HEIGHT.

Please Apple, don’t encourage people to share their “Riddim Ribbon” remixes with me.

First shooter “space Marine” game. That sounds… kinda awesome.

Some sports games. Bleh. Boy stuff.

Pricing stuff and iPods!

iPod Touch dropping to $199 for 8GB;

32GB will be $299 and 64GB will be $399;

32GB and 64GB versions will run a newer processor and be 50% faster;

$249 will now get you a 160GB iPod Classic, an extra 40GB of space;

Shuffles: $59 for a 2GB, $79 for a 4GB and $99 for a special edition 4GB

Uh-oh Flip:

$149 gets you an 8GB Nano with video compared to 4GB on the Flip.

Nano’s getting voiceover, voice recorder, genius mix, a pedometer that syncs with Nike+ and FM radio.

They’ll be a 16GB version for $179. Cool. And the colors will be like, prettier or something because the “aluminum” is “anodized.”

Oh my God. They’re making those poor people listen to Norah Jones. Live.

And it’s over! Expect more in-depth coverage on the new stuff we just heard about this second.

[Thanks, Gizmodo]

After months of rumors and speculation, Apple has finally announced its new line of notebooks. The new MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and MacBook — along with a brand new 24-inch cinema display — were all revealed at the company’s mystery-shrouded event in Cupertino, Calif. today.

The New MacBook Pro

The new MacBook Pro has an unibody enclosure made from a single sheet of aluminum — the much discussed “brick” build — and is once again the thinnest ever model, coming in at only 0.95 inches. All connectors are on one side, including the speculated mini-DisplayPort for home theater connection. As expected, the back side of the casing can be removed to access the battery and hard drive.

When it comes to graphics, the MacBook Pro features a brand new graphics processor from Nvidia that incorporates both the chipset and GPU into a single die. The Nvidia GeForce 9400M performs five times faster than the current MacBook Pro systems, Steve Jobs said. The notebook also comes with the Nvidia 9600M GT, described as a “state-of-the-art graphics” system. It offers 512MB of video memory and can be activated by switching to “turbo mode” within the settings. The 9400 provides five hours of battery life, while the 9600 drops down to about four.

The new MacBook Pro also boasts a large multi-touch glass trackpad. It’s 39 percent larger than its predecessor, and the entire thing functions as the button. It recognizes several gestures that perform functions such as zooming, panning, and app switching.

The cheapest model, at $1999, includes a 15.4-inch LED backlit display. 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 3MB L2 Cache, 2GB 1066MHz DDR3 Memory, the two GeForces, and a 250GB hard drive and SuperDrive. The top-of-the-line model, at $2499, gets you up to 2.53GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 4GB memory, 512MB video memory, and a 320GB hard drive. Both will be shipping today.

The New MacBook

Not to be left behind, the MacBook is getting a makeover as well. There will be three versions, all available starting tomorrow:

A $999 “Next Generation” model, featuring the same aluminum unibody enclosure as the Pro, a corner-to-corner glass LED-backlit display, the new multi-touch glass trackpad, an added mini-DisplayPort connector, and the Nvidia 9400M graphics system

A $1299 model with a 13.3-inch LED-backlit display, 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 3MB L2 Cache, 2GB 1066MHz DDR3 memory, the Nvidia 9400M graphics system, a 160GB hard drive and SuperDrive

A $1599 model that adds a 2.4GHz processor, 250GB hard drive, and backlit keyboard

The New MacBook Air

A souped-up MacBook Air is on the way in November. It will get the 9400M graphics system, along with a 120GB hard drive or 128GB SSD and an added mini-DisplayPort. The notebook will be offered in a 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo version for $1799 and a 1.86GHz CPU version (with the 128GB SSD) for $2499.

The New Cinema Display

Finally, Jobs and his team announced a new 24-inch LED-backlit Cinema Display. It offers 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution and features three connectors: MagSafe, USB, and mini-DisplayPort. The display also has built-in iSight, microphone, and stereo speakers. It’ll be available in November for $899 — presumably making it the rumored $800-range product first reported here last week.
