36-year-old California man Trent Arsenault has fathered 14 children but claims to be a virgin. That’s because Arsenault donates his sperm to women in need, providing his semen for free to those who ask.

The Silicon Valley computer security specialist appeared on the Anderson Cooper talk show on Monday and called himself a “donorsexual” who has committed “100% of my sexual energy for producing sperm for childless couples to have babies. So I don’t have other activity outside of that.”

After hearing about the man’s devotion to his “task” Cooper who looked amazed asked:

“So you do not have sex?”

Arsenault responded:

“I will probably be the 40-year-old virgin—except I’ll have 15-plus kids.”

Trent earned his place on Anderson’s show after the US Food and Drug Administration ordered him to shut down his free service for “possible” health violations. As I previously reported the US Government argues that Arsenault has not taken legally required precautions to prevent the spread of communicable diseases.

CNN anchor Anderson Cooper is well-known for his insistence on not “being the story,” keeping his personal life under wraps as he reports from locations all over the world on every conceivable newsworthy event.

But the newsman and his famous fashion designer mom, Gloria Vanderbilt, recently spoke publicly about the ripple effects of the suicide of Cooper’s brother, Carter Vanderbilt Cooper. Cooper discussed the event with his 87-year-old mother in an interview, and both were visibly moved when discussing the tragedy of two decades ago.

Vanderbilt cited her younger son, Anderson, who was 21 at the time, as her reason for not succumbing totally to the loss. She recalls the moment when her older son plunged from the family’s 14th floor penthouse- an event she happened to witness.

“He was sitting on the wall with one foot hanging over and he kept looking down and I kept begging him [to come back]. When he went … I thought he was going to come back, but he didn’t… He let go, and there was a moment when I thought I was going to jump over after him.”

She adds:

“I thought of you and it stopped me from [following]… There’s never closure on something that happens like this.”

Anderson is 44 now, and has some recollections of his own on lighter topics. While the newsman deals with a range of stories each day, he admits they can be a bit odd when they involve your mother:

“What’s amazing, my mom has written a dozen books—one of them was a romance memoir about some of the gentleman callers I guess that she had over the years,… She asked me to proofread and I was like ‘Really? Really?’ So I did, and it was funny because I used to watch old movies with my mom when I was a kid, and there’s like Frank Sinatra in some movie and I would turn and be like, ‘Oh, did you ever know Frank SInatra?’ She would look at me and be like, ‘Oh yes.’ “

Anderson Cooper recently interviewed Mitch Winehouse about his daughters (Amy Winehouse) death and in the interview to air Monday on the new talk show Anderson he tells Cooper that his daughter may have died from a detox seizure and “there was nobody there to rescue her.”

Mitch made his statement after it was discovered that no illegal drugs were in Winehouse’s body at the time of her death, although an “undetermined” amount of alcohol was found in her blood stream.

Mitch tells Anderson Cooper:

“Everything Amy did, she did to excess. She drank to excess and did detox to excess,” while he went on to add, “periods of abstinence were becoming longer, and the periods of drinking were becoming shorter. It was heading in the right direction.”

He added that Amy had suffered from seizures in the past that would cause her to pass out, although he says until he knows for sure he’ll be waiting for an inquest to be completed in October.

Mitch said of his daughters life with and without drugs:

“When she wasn’t drinking, she was absolutely on top of the world.

Did you know that Anderson Cooper, of CNN fame, has yet another new show coming out this September?

No?

Neither did I up until a couple of days ago but then it seems that they’ve turned on the publicity blitz about his daytime talk show, that is already being yakked about as the new Oprah daytime powerhouse, and I am seeing news about is popping up daily.

Sort of like this little tidbit released by the show on the Anderson.com site where he gets comfie out in the sun with a bikini clad Kathy Griffin. Considering that they are buds from way back I guess we shouldn’t be too surprised. Suppressing a gag reflex maybe but surprised, not likely.

As you can see from the image above they look like such a lovely couple just enjoying their time all alone out in the sun with no-one around to bother them. As for the image below, well, that’s just the gallant gentleman in Anderson coming out as he helps Griffin adjust her bikini top.

Popular CNN anchor and expert rubble-climber Anderson Cooper has weighed in on the soon to be off the air TV mom Kate Gosselin and a recent TV outburst the mom of eight had on one of her show’s final episodes.

Cooper, who usually covers weightier issues such as natural disasters and politics, had a bit of a go at Gosselin after the notoriously hard to please former Mrs. Jon verbally abused the clan’s nanny for not reserving a piece of pizza for her bodyguard Steve during a cross-country trip. The silver fox skewed Gosselin on the “RidicuList” section of his show, admonishing Gosselin for infantilizing the grown man:

“Middle-aged bodyguards can get pretty cranky if their routine is thrown off: You know, lunch, juice box, binkie nap… It is a cautionary tale. If you somehow, against all odds, find a woman who’s willing to help you take eight kids on a cross-country road trip, for goodness sake, let her divide the pizza any way she wants.”

During the clip, Gosselin also goes off on her kids, demanding that they “eat salads” and save the final slice of pizza for Steve. When one of the eight obediently presents Steve with the slice, Gosselin blows her top again, screaming, “That’s disgusting! Why didn’t you wrap it in foil?”

Not surprisingly, the nanny soon vacated her position in tears, unable to tolerate Kate’s nitpicking for any longer and leaving the now-unemployed megamom to care for Cara, Mady, Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel on her own. Cooper won’t have to be bothered by Kate’s temper on TV for much longer- the reality show star and her massive brood are departing the airwaves later this month.

Part of the Amy Winehouse story will be told on September 12 when newscaster Anderson Cooper sits down with the Winehouse Family, the first guests for his new talk show titled Anderson.

The interview will include Amy’s Grammy award winning parents Mitch and Janice, along with her brother Alex and her last boyfriend Reg Traviss.

It will also mark the first time the family has talked about Amy’s death since she was found in July in her North London apartment.

A full inquest is still expected for Amy’s passing next month, although most fans and critics have long suspected that her drug addiction led to her passing, a toxicology report which showed no illegal substances in her body.

Since the talk show is new you’ll want to check local listed for showtimes.

In the light of the disaster on Haiti and how it is being reported in the news by some journalists there have been a few journalism mouthpieces who have questioned said reporting. Now the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) has come out and cautioned its members against making themselves a part of the news that they are reporting.

We are all pretty familiar by this point of Anderson Cooper saving a little boy’s life or of Sanjay Gupta providing limited medical care to a 15 week old baby and operating on a young lady with a head injury. However this is the type of thing that the SPJ is saying that reporters need to stay away from.

As SPJ President Kevin Smith has been quoted  as saying

“I think it’s important for journalists to be cognizant of their roles in disaster coverage,” SPJ President Kevin Smith said. “Advocacy, self promotion, offering favors for news and interviews, injecting oneself into the story or creating news events for coverage is not objective reporting, and it ultimately calls into question the ability of a journalist to be independent, which can damage credibility.”

Look I’m not naive enough to believe that a lot of this style might be great for rating and that the suits at CNN aren’t rubbing their hands together in glee of the ratings bonanza. However I think there is also something larger at play here.

What I would say to people like Kevin Smith is welcome to the world of ‘social news reporting‘. This is no longer the world of reporting where Walter Cronkite, God bless his soul, would feel comfortable. It is the world of news though that people who want to be touched, to be engaged and to be able to respond to are making.

It is the reporters like Cooper, Gupta and others that are a willing participants of the movement to bring social media to the world of news. It is people like you and me who are saying that we want the people bringing us our news to be real people with real feelings and concerns about the news that they are reporting.

This is why traditional media and organizations like SPJ are falling by the wayside and marginalizing themselves. Just as our world is changing so is the way our news is being reported to us.

Erica Hill is leaving Anderson Coopers program and CNN “for an exciting future at CBS News.”

Erica Hill has previously been the co-host of the CBS’ “Early Show” Saturday Edition with Chris Wragg, and an anchor for CNN Headline News. She also appeared as a correspondent and alt-anchor for be the CNN Anderson Cooper Show. ”

The very gay Anderson Cooper wished her luck and said, “While I’m happy for her and her entire family, it is with a very heavy heart I say good-bye. I cannot imagine doing this program without Erica Hill and I cannot really express how much I’m going to miss you.”

Hill said, “It was very tough decision to leave, but you know that I’m not going to be far and I sincerely hope it’s not the last time we work together. We’re a good team.”

There is no official news on Hill’s role with CBS, but expect it to be a high profile one.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper and boyfriend Benjamin Maisani have been spotted together while on holiday in Jaipur, India.

According to reports, the pair were pictured together at the Rambagh Palace hotel, where the couple are sharing a bed at $3,200 a night. According to a source quoted by the New York Post, the room “has a large round bathtub” that was “filled with bubbles and sprinkled with red rose petals” on their first night in town.

Benjamin Maisani owns the Eastern Bloc bar in New York City’s East Village, which is described by one reviewer on Yelp as “a true man meat bar” that is the “sexiest/hottest [gay] bar in Manhattan.” Gridskipper describes the bar as an “upscale gay bar with a welcoming, Soviet theme.”

Anderson Cooper and Benjamin Maisani are believed to have been dating since 2007.

Rarely funny, always trashy comedian Kathy Griffin somehow managed to land a gig this year co-hosting CNN’s New Years Eve coverage from New York with the very queer straight laced Anderson Cooper. Why we don’t know: times must be really tough, and not surprisingly, she couldn’t keep her mouth out of trouble.

Along with cutting of Lil Wayne and giving Cooper a generally hard time, Griffin was according to reports regularly heckled by the crowd, and just before a break, let fly at one heckler….all on open mic.
