Amazon has announced their soon to be released Amazon Kindle PC software, an offering they’ve deemed “Kindle For PC” and which will debut this November free of charge for Windows-based PCs.

The program doesn’t require that users own a Kindle, although your footnotes will be displayed on your PC if you have created notes or highlights on your Kindle handheld unit.

The program will even remember where you stopped reading on your PC or Kindle and allow you to continue from that spot on either device the next time you open your ebook.

Windows 7 touchscreen users will also be able to take advantage of gesture controls, including zooming in and out on pages and page turning.

The announcement comes just as Barnes and Noble announced the “Nook” e-reader which will go on sale around the sale time as the Kindle for PC software. The program debut also comes right after Amazon dropped the price of their Kindle units as increased competition continues to flood the market.
