Captain Slow James May headed to the US to meet with Rally Car driver Ken Block, and the result is perhaps one of the most amazing and at times insane car footage you’ll ever see. The picture above with the plane and bike wasn’t doctored…they actually managed to pull that off.

In 1900 the idea of flight was as far fetched as the machines men tried to get airborne in. Little did they know that over 100 years later that men would not only fly in giant airliners, but would also launch lawn mowers 100’s of feet into the sky.

This synopsis for the video reads “Somebody put a small jet engine on a push mower, started both engines, and let it fly.” I can’t see the jet engine myself, but the flying part is correct.

Take one dead gecko. Mix with ants. Follow with video footage at high speed and you get a video of ants devouring a gecko. Perhaps not the most exciting thing we’ve posted, but it’s still fairly amazing.

Amazing: man survives truck, train collision (video)

There’s luck, and then there’s the luck Turkish haulier Cem Tokac has.

Tokac was waiting by a rail line for a train to pass, when a truck drove in front of the train next to where he was standing. The train hits the truck, and the truck hits Tokac, who goes straight to the ground.

His injuries: cuts, bruises, and probably a soiled pair of pants.

The entire incident was captured on CCTV at two different angles. Watching it you just can’t believe that he walked away.

Pink Dolphin wows tourists in Louisiana

A rare albino dolphin in Calcasieu Lake, Louisana is wowing tourists, but conservationists warn that people should give the animal some space.

While most albino animals are white, this bottlenose dolphin is a remarkable bright pink, with red eyes.

Regina Asmutis-Silvia, senior biologist with the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society, is quoted in the Telgraph as saying: “I have never seen a dolphin coloured in this way in all my career. It is a truly beautiful dolphin but people should be careful, as with any dolphins, to respect it – observe from a distance, limit their time watching, don’t chase or harass it.”

The pink dolphin is believed to be in good health and has been observed in a pod of four, playing and eating.

Amazonian tribe turned a missionary into an atheist

Daniel Everett was a missionary with a task: taking the Gospel to the Amazon tribe the Pirahãs, but his time there changed him from god lover to atheist.

On arriving, the tribe asked the missionary whether he had seen or experienced any of the things he was telling them about. He had to admit that he hadn’t. From Freethinker.co.uk

The Pirahãs, he said, “believed that the world was as it had always been, and that there was no supreme deity”. Furthermore they had no creation myths in their culture. In short, here was a people who were more than happy to live their lives “without God, religion or any political authority”.

Despite Everett translating the Book of Luke into Pirahã and reading it to tribe members, the Pirahãs sensibly resisted all his attempts to convert them.

According to a report in the New Yorker:

His zeal soon dissipated … Convinced that the Pirahã assigned no spiritual meaning to the Bible, Everett finally admitted that he did not, either. He declared himself an atheist …

It took Everett 19 years to confess he was no longer a believer, and it cost him his marriage and contact with two of his three children.

The Pirahãs have shown me that there is dignity and deep satisfaction in facing life and death without the comforts of heaven or the fear of hell, and of sailing towards the great abyss with a smile.

And they have shown me that for years I held many of my beliefs without warrant. I have learned these things from the Pirahãs, and I will be grateful to them for as long as I live.

Truck crash demonstrates interdimensional travel science still needs work

There are many causes of road crashes, but a truck materializing in front of you from another dimension usually isn’t one of them. Until now.

In this video from an unnamed location, a truck traveling in a tunnel mysteriously hits another truck that appears from no where. The footage shows first the accident in real time, then a slow-motion replay.

As insane as this sounds, visually at least it shows the second truck appearing from no-where. At the point of impact, the second truck is also facing the wrong way, so with a clear shot ahead, we should have been able to have seen it coming. The first truck also never brakes indicating that he might have seen something coming.

Scientists Solve Mystery of See Through Barreleye Fish

Scientists at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute have solved an over 50-year mystery behind the Barreleye fish, finding that the fish can rotate its eyes, but only after discovering that the front of its head is see through.

The see through Barreleye Fish (Macropinna microstoma) was first discovered in 1939, but the transparent nature of the fish wasn’t known. The fish had previously been caught in nets, but the see through part is destroyed when the fish dies. The eyes on the fish are unique, facing upwards, so it was thought that it couldn’t see in front of itself. The Monterey Bay team sent remotely operated vehicles to the ocean floor to study the fish, only to make the remarkable discovery.

The team managed to capture a live specimen, and over several hours observed the fish rotating its eyes. The see through portion of the Barreleye allows the fish to literally see through itself when looking for food at different angles above it.

What ever the science, the see through fish is simply a marvel of nature.

The first part you won’t see coming, but the second half has slow motion the footage in reverse…yes you did see what you thought you saw.

New Jersey men are so tough, they spit the bullet out when shot

A New Jersey man shot Monday responded by spitting the bullet out of his mouth.

22 year old Richard Jamison was involved in an altercation with at least two other people before one of the men fired a single shot from a handgun.

The bullet pierced Jamison’s right cheek, then struck his tongue. Jamison then spat out the bullet, according to police.

According to NJ.com, Jamison is in a stable condition in hospital. Police are yet to arrest the assailants, or award a prize for the toughest guy alive to Jamison.

The breed them tough in New Jersey.

Amazing Los Angeles Timelapse Film

I’ll admit I’m a sucker for timelapse clips, but this Los Angeles timelapse film is the best I’ve seen for a while.

Extraordinarily well taken using a Canon 20D, and the music is spot on. It’s a little long, but well worth it. There also seems to be some footage of San Francisco as well in one part..oh well, it adds to the value.
