The team at SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) took what turned out to be an extended break, seven months, in their search for alien life, but now the team is back to pointing their telescopes to the stars.

The institute’s Allen Telescope Array came back online on Monday thanks to a deal brokered between SETI and the U.S. Air Force. The telescopes will once again be listening full-time to the radio waves emitted from neighboring stars in an effort to find signals alien in origin.

The timing of SETI’s return couldn’t be more perfect – just a few days ago, NASA announced the discovery of an Earth-like planet, Kepler 22-b, orbiting within the habitable zone of a star similar in mass to our own sun. Unsurprisingly, Kepler 22-b and other recently discovered exoplanets are the focus of SETI’s ATA telescopes.

“This is a superb opportunity for SETI observations,” said Jill Tarter, the Director of the Center for SETI Research, in a statement issued on Monday. “For the first time, we can point our telescopes at stars, and know that those stars actually host planetary systems – including at least one that begins to approximate an Earth analog in the habitable zone around its host star. That’s the type of world that might be home to a civilization capable of building radio transmitters.”

SETI isn’t just focusing on the recently discovered exoplanets, however.

“In SETI, as with all research, preconceived notions such as habitable zones could be barriers to discovery,” Tarter explained. “So, with sufficient future funding from our donors, it’s our intention to examine all of the planetary systems found by Kepler.”

Area 51 is one of the most legendary secretive places in America, and a running joke is that no one particularly knows why it’s so shady.

The remote base in Nevada is closely linked with many UFO conspiracy theories, an idea that was lampooned in the 1996 blockbuster Independence Day. Annie Jacobsen of the Los Angeles Times has penned a new book titled Area 51: An Uncensored History of America’s Top Secret Military Base, which promises to finally dish on what really goes on at Area 51.

For instance, Jacobsen contends that there really was a crash at Roswell, and bodies were recovered. The small creatures found dead at the scene were ”grotesque, child-size aviators” had “large” heads and “oversize” eyes, says Jacobsen, but were not actually aliens. The author claims the bodies were those of Russian children engineered by Josef Mengele to trick Americans into panicking a la War of the Worlds. Wait, what?

Jacobsen says:

“[They] were not aliens. Nor were they consenting airmen. They were human guinea pigs.”

Jacobsen’s narrative covers Area 51 over several decades, and includes several more secret ops and coverups. You can order it for Kindle or as a hard copy through Amazon.

Another author, Bill Lyne who wrote a book titled “Space Aliens from the Pentagon” in 1993 , agrees with Jacobson that the Roswell incident was faked but insists that it was perpetrated by the U.S. government and not the Russians.

“They’re just saying what I’ve been saying all along, that it was a hoax,” he told the Santa Fe New Mexican. “But that Mengele stuff is a bunch of hogwash because Mengele was recruited by the CIA (rather than the Russians), and he was actually brought to Albuquerque.”

UFO aficionado Clifford Clift chimed in with his take on the “Russian Cover-Up Theory”,

“After researching the claim, I found little truth in this theory,” he said. “It is a stretch. One of my concerns is if they wanted to create panic, why in New Mexico and not New York where there are more people to panic? I would suggest it is another conspiracy theory and, heavens, MUFON knows about conspiracy theories. They do sell books.”

One thing is for sure, when a new theory comes out public interest is piqued and little green men (in the form of dead presidents) take flight.

Never mind Roswell or Cloe encounters of the Third kind because scientists believe that they may have found the real deal.

It all has to do with a strange case of red rain that fell in India in 2001 which was rumored to contain cells unlike anything we have seen on Earth. Incredibly there is now evidence that these cells can reproduce.

In 2001, numerous people observed red rain falling over Kerala in the southern tip of India during a two month period. One of them was Godfrey Louis, a physicist at nearby Cochin University of Science and Technology. Intrigued by this phenomena, Louis collected numerous samples of red rain, determined to find out what was causing the contamination, perhaps sand or dust from some distant desert.

Under a microscope, however, he found no evidence of sand or dust. Instead, the rain water was filled with red cells that look remarkably like conventional bugs on Earth. What was strange was that Louis found no evidence of DNA in these cells which would rule out most kinds of known biological cells (red blood cells are one possibility but ought to be destroyed quickly by rain water).

Louis published his results in the peer-reviewed journal Astrophysics and Space in 2006, along with the tentative suggestion that the cells could be extraterrestrial, perhaps from a comet that had disintegrated in the upper atmosphere and then seeded clouds as the cells floated down to Earth.

A poll of 23,000 people in 22 countries has found that 20% of all people believe that we are not alone.

The Reuters poll found that there was a correlation between believing in aliens, and the population of the country, with 40% of people from India and China believe.

Those in Belgium, Sweden and the Netherlands are least likely to believe, clocking in a belief rate of only 8%.

In another surprising find, women are more likely to believe in aliens then men, at a split of 22% to 17%.

On the other hand, if you were a fan of the Aliens/Predator films, Steam is having another of its famous sales, knocking 33% off Aliens vs. Predator for this weekend only. The first-person shooter can now be got for $33.49 (it’s usually $49.99 for the PC version).

I hear the same story about this game everywhere I look: great for lovers of the film, mediocre for everyone else. If you’re in the former group, it’s time to dust down the wallet.

Aliens vs. Predator has 33% off this weekend on Steam is a post from: The Inquisitr

Video taken in Turkey earlier this year allegedly shows unprecedented detailed footage of UFOs visiting earth.

The footage was captured by night guard Yalcin Yalman in a compound in Turkey, and handed over to the Sirius UFO Space Science Research Centre for confirmation. The video below is a 16 minute version of the highlights from over two and a half hours of UFO footage.

After running extensive testing on the footage, and confirming independent sitings of UFOs in the area at the same time, the center is claiming the footage isn’t faked, and that it’s the best evidence yet that we are not alone in the universe.

The video has to be seen to be believed. It’s a case of Aliens being real, or this being the most elaborate scam of all time, because that’s how incredible this footage is compared to what we’ve come to expect from so-called “UFO evidence” in the past. I want to believe….and at least one shot shows a craft not completely dissimilar to the flying cookie picture we covered last week.

A set of UFO-related Ministry of Defence files was just made public today as part of the U.K.’s National Archives. The papers indicate the Alitalia aircraft came dangerously close to some kind of “brown missile-shaped object” as it was flying into Heathrow Airport in 1991. The report says the pilot shouted to his co-pilot: “Look out!”

Government and military investigations concluded that the object was not a missile, weather balloon, or space rocket. The investigations were eventually closed and left unresolved.

Other incidents revealed in the UFO documents include a U.S. Air Force pilot having to shoot down some sort of unidentified flying object in the skies above East Anglia, and a report of a woman who claimed to be from the “Sirius system” telling officials that her spaceship had crashed down in Britain during the World War II era.

We want to believe, we really do, but a new photo published by the UK Tabloid The Sun and claimed to be “one of the most important ever pieces of evidence of alien life” shows a cream filled chocolate cookie flying over Dudley in the United Kingdom.

The photo is said to have been taken by a 57-year-old nanny on a day out last April, and handed over to a police detective who collects UFO sightings.
