You’ve seen The Avengers trailer. The Dark Knight Rises trailer. The Hobbit trailer (and if you haven’t, all three links are right there). But there’s another movie sneaking into the summer 2012 line-up that maybe you haven’t heard of.

The film, titled “Prometheus”, marks the return of director Ridley Scott to the science fiction genre. Many of Scott’s efforts since the dawn of the new millennium have been somewhat forgettable: the over-long, over-preachy “Kingdom of Heaven”, sub-par “Silence of the Lambs” sequel “Hannibal”, and “Braveheart” starring Russell Crowe “Robin Hood”, to name a few.

But Scott might be onto something with Prometheus. The director practically created modern science fiction film with aesthetic hallmarks “Alien” and “Blade Runner”, both of which have been endlessly copied, referenced, and homage-d. A return to Scott’s gloomy and claustrophobic vision of the future just might be what the director needs to get his groove back.

Though production details have been hush-hush since the film’s initial development, numerous rumors have circulated that the film is a prequel to 1979′s “Alien”, the film that began an extremely successful series that has become deeply ingrained into the pop culture canon. Scott and co-writer Damon Lindelof (of LOST infamy) have played coy with these rumors, ultimately revealing that while “Prometheus” does share the same universe as “Alien”, it is not a prequel, rather more of a “side-quel”, telling a story apart from the established franchise, but sharing its history and imagery.

Methinks perhaps the director and his partner in crime have played too coy about this. To serve this point, here’s both the promised trailer for “Prometheus”, as well as the theatrical trailer for 1979′s “Alien”. Just like “Dark Side” and “Wizard”, see if these two don’t overlap a bit.

If extraterrestrial life is headed towards Earth we might want to prepare for the apocalypse according to a new study. The study says greenhouse gas emissions caused by global warming could lead other civilizations to realize we are expanding too rapidly and therefore may become an offensive threat to other planets in the future.

The Pennsylvania State University study concludes that due to the possibility of future attacks other civilizations may attack “in order to protect other civilizations from us.”

According to co-author Jacob Haqq-Misra:

“This is a highly unlikely scenario”

Although it should be noted that we are already checking out “spectral signatures,” of other planets, while we also read our own signature by checking figures that our reflected off the moon.  What do our self studies show? Mostly a very high mix of oxygen, methane and ozone.

Haqq-Misra adds:

“If there are intelligent civilizations out there, they pretty much have to have figured out how to grow in a sustainable way,” while adding, “We’re not doing that.”

So be prepared because Al Gore is probably summoning his extraterrestrial friends at this very moment, sure they might not arrive for thousands of years, if they arrive at all, but let this be a warning to everyone who doesn’t recycle, you could be leading to the inevitable alien doom of our home planet.

My favorite part of these study types? They are typically funded by government money at public institutions.

Well, actually you might as long as you could both pull over at the nearest place so you could take some pictures of this incredible creation from 54-year-old Roongrojna Sangwongprisarn from Bangkok.

Using nothing more than scrap metal from cars, motorcycles, and bikes Sangwongprisarn sculpts it all together to create metal sculptures because really that is what this Alien motorcycle is, with the benefit of being able to be driven.

I mean, really, who wouldn’t want to pull up to a bar riding something like this?

The creepy and unsettling image making the rounds last week that purportedly depicted a zombie-like creature lurking in a Louisiana backwater was, surprise surprise, a viral marketing campaign for an upcoming game, Resistance 3.

As the story goes, a hunting stand out in the middle of nowhere had a digital camera set up, and the shots of the thing were captured before it smashed the camera up, leaving the memory card intact. The freaked out camera owner posted the pics to a gaming website, as you do when you encounter a pants-peeable cryptid in the middle of nowhere and it could have followed you home.

Playstation Lifestyle connected the “sighting” to this tweet from Insomniac Games about the upcoming release of Resistance 3:

While the tale’s debunking hasn’t gotten much attention, the original story hit many mainstream media outlets, including several local affiliate news shows and Britain’s Daily Mail.

Clearly, this dude was out walking his Montauk Monster when it got off the leash- it explains the anguished look.

The image and video below have captured the imagination of the internet this morning- some guys from Louisiana who have chosen to remain nameless submitted the pics from a deer hunting stand in Berwick. The camera was unmanned and broken, presumably by the unidentified thing, but the memory card was intact and the camera’s owners say the image was found on the card.

Local news describes the thing in the pic:

It looks like a cross between a human and an animal, with long slender appendages and glowing eyes.

The hunter says he just hopes it’s a vegetarian, if he runs into it in the woods again.

This is absolutely funny as hell.

An Alien (ala the movie) with a British accent sitting down to a bowl of Raisin Bran Crunch and explaining how his life has changed since he chilled out over the whole human eating thing. Now it’s all about Pilates and going with the flow.

In something straight out of a horror sci-fi flick Gavin Hyatt gave birth to his twin brother through his belly button this past month. Granted it was only the 4cm fetus that Gavin had absorb while in his mother’s womb after his twin had died. Once there it remained inert until a recent change in Gavin’s weight which doctors say may have started the process.

There are just a handful of cases worldwide — with the majority reported in Asia.

Former firefighter Gavin, of Witney, Oxfordshire, said: “Four hospital doctors had previously examined me and were all puzzled by the lump.

“Some thought it was a cyst, others an in-grown hair.

“Then one said it could be my undeveloped identical twin that I absorbed at a very early stage. I feel absolutely fine now but it has not sunk in yet that I could have had a twin brother. I have him in a jar at home and I call him little Gav. I haven’t told many people. I feel like a bit of a freak.”
