Although Tom Cruise has been receiving most of the praised reviews from Adam Shankman’s film  adaption of the  hit musical “Rock of Ages”, it’s reported that the 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin is giving him a run for his money.

Baldwin, 53, plays the owner of The Bourbon, a Sunset Strip club facing closure in the wake of the 1980s. When the trailer hit late last year there were many different looks for the cast, including Tom Cruise’s long hair and shirtless body, Catherine Zeta-Jones jumping back into her sophisticated sexy image once seen in Chicago, but it’s Alec Baldwin who puts up with the most image change.

From suits to long hair and outrageous outfits in the 80s period Adam Shankman is convinced that Baldwin makes it work, sort of. “If that wig didn’t work, then the whole thing was going to be a disaster. The world is so used to seeing him as Jack Donaghy, and I needed to get him as far away from Jack Donaghy as I could.” Shankman said Baldwin took a special on-set liking to Brand. “He and Russell ended up being like Tracy and Hepburn. They were so giddy, and they did everything together.”

Aw, Alec Baldwin went on Piers Morgan and talked all about his newish girlfriend, and did a British accent and wants to have more kids.

Baldwin- who caught some ire for leaving his daughter an angry voicemail a few years back- is dad to one kid, 16-year-old Ireland with actress Kim Basinger. And while that relationship went very sour, Baldwin told Morgan that he has hope again that he will be able to pull off the “happily coupled” thing. Baldwin says that before meeting his girlfriend- the two decades younger yoga teacher Hilaria Thomas- he was pretty convinced he was going to die one of those New York deaths with little to comfort him besides social networks and Zynga. He tells Morgan:

“After I got divorced, I dated people and I had one girlfriend for several years… and right before I met Hilaria… I did lay in my bed and say, ‘This is it. I’m gonna be alone for the rest of my life, I’m gonna die alone in this apartment in this bed, I’ll have my friends, I’ll have Twitter, I’ll have Words with Friends, I’ll have my New Yorker subscription… I’ll have my quiet, unhappy life’. I walked into a restaurant… and I met this woman who is probably one of the greatest people I’ve ever met in my life.”

However, soon after revealing his new relationship status, Baldwin flipped the tables on the question-asker, grilling Morgan (in a British accent, no less) about whether he’d ever been in love. Baldwin, doing his Piers impression, asked:

“I must ask you Piers, have you even been properly in love? I was asked by your staff to pose this very question.”

Piers confirmed that they had, and managed to wrest control of the interview again. On the subject of kids, Baldwin said that to have more- “that would be heaven, that would be fantastic.” Do you think it’s cool Alec Baldwin has found love again?

Baldwin starred in the commercials, produced in 2010, after he mentioned on “The Late Show With David Letterman” that his mother will never leave Upstate New York because she loves the supermarket.

Last month, Baldwin was kicked off an American Airlines flight after he refused to turn off his cell phone – on which he was playing “Words With Friends.” According to the airline, Baldwin was extremely rude to the flight crew, who they said were just doing their jobs and not singling the 30 Rock actor out.

Wegmans planned to run the holiday-themed Baldwin commercials for a few weeks over the last holiday season. Wegmans said customers began complaining about the ads after the American Airlines incident.

“We did get customer complaints because it was all timed with the incidents,” said spokeswoman Jo Natale. “We always listen to customers. We didn’t get hundreds of complaints, but a few dozen.”

Wegmans said it ended the ads a week earlier than planned and added that the company has no ongoing relationship or contract with Baldwin.

Alec Baldwin won’t be running for the New York City mayoral position anytime in the future, according to the Words With Friends loving actor he simply isn’t “horny” for the office like other candidates who want the job.

Baldwin said during his weekly WNYC podcast:

“I’ve lost my appetite”

He goes on to add that other candidates are ”like a guy on a date that you can tell he just can’t wait to get his hand up your blouse before even the lights go out in the theater.”

He then reveals his own selfish motives:

“Give this up for what?” he said. “I give up money and fame and position and success; I give up this wonderful life I have now in exchange for the chance to ‘really change things?’… Yeah, I’m not quite sure you can anymore.”

He then goes on to hint at a continuing role on the hit CBS show 30 Rock. While he told the Associated Press in October that he was ready to leave the show he now says sticking with 30 Rock would be better than a mayoral position.

One thing Alec Baldwin won’t be doing in the near future? Flying from city to city aboard an American Airlines flight. The actor was recently kicked off a flight when he because rude to flight crew and started calling them inappropriate names after they asked him to turn off his Smartphone in the middle of a Words With Friends game.

Katy Perry was at the helm for Saturday Night Live on, er, Saturday night, spoofing a range of fellow celebs and herself.

Pippa Middleton and Christina Aguilera were both targets of Perry’s gentle jibes, but the show opened with Perry ribbing herself … and in particular her unconventional wardrobe choices in her music videos.

The pop star revealed her outrageous outfits were borrowed from real people she grew up with. Cue Kristen Wiig arriving on stage as ‘Janet,’ Perry’s former neighbor, wearing a blue wig and frosting guns, as famously sported by Perry the ‘California Gurls’ video. Then Andy Samberg emerged as Kathy Beth Terry, Perry’s alter-ago in ‘Last Friday Night‘ who she used to babysit. You probably had to be there.

Better (I thought) was Perry spoofing herself on ‘Kalle,’ a mock Finnish talk show with a deliciously psychotic host armed with a clip for every anecdote, statement and syllable uttered by Perry. The humor was knowing and occasionally a little dark – not bad.

I was less crazy about Perry’s impersonation of  Christina Aguilera’s singing in mock movie ‘The Apocalypse,’ but her portrayal of Kate Middleton’s sister, Pippa, was pretty good, with an overly protective Pippa defending her sister Kate against a raunchy Queen and Prince Philip. Andy Samberg pulls off the Prince William look a little too well …

Other celebrities turned up for the show, including Alec Baldwin (who poked fun himself about his recent airline troubles – see HERE for the video), Matt Damon (yes, that’s him above) and Val Kilmer.

Alec Baldwin on Saturday took to Saturday Night Live where he made fun of his recent American Airlines incident in which he flipped out on the flight crew when asked to turn off his Words With Friends game.

Playing the role of American Airlines captain Steve Rodgers he referred to himself (Alec Baldwin) as an “American Treasure.”

After the incident Baldwin tweeted:

“Flight attendant on American reamed me out 4 playing WORDS W FRIENDS while we sat at the gate, not moving. #nowonderamericaairisbankrupt”

In apologizing to himself during Weekend Update with Seth Meyers he said:

“It was awful, Seth, which is why it was very important for me to come here tonight and on behalf of everyone at American Airlines issue an apology to Mr. Alec Baldwin.”

Meyers then asked:

“Alec, are you sure this is the right way to handle this?”

Baldwin then answered (as pilot Rodgers):

“Mr. Baldwin is an American treasure and I am ashamed of the way he was treated.”

Baldwin then went on to explain why he slammed the lavatory door during his standoff with the crew, claiming ”Words with Friends” is “frustrating.”

Last week Alec Baldwin was kicked off an American Airlines flight for playing Words With Friends on the runway. After the incident, Balwin wrote an article entitled “A Farewell to Common Sense, Style, and Service” to apologize to his fellow passengers while slamming the airline. But Baldwin isn’t done talking about his fiasco. Last night he appeared on Saturday Night Live as American Airlines captain Steve Rogers to apologize to himself.

After the incident, Baldwin wrote:

“The lesson I’ve learned is to keep my phone off when the 1950′s gym teacher is on duty. That was my fault there, even though this trip was quite a bit different from so many others. But it is sad, I think, that you’ve got to fly overseas today in order to bring back what has been thrown overboard by US carriers in terms of common sense, style, and service.”

During his article, Baldwin also managed to insult the bus industry. Balwin wrote that the lack of common sense, style, and service in the airline industry make flying a “Greyhound bus experience.”

After being kicked off an American Airlines flight for refusing to stop his game of Zynga’s popular Words With Friends mobile application 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin went on a diatribe against the airline and somehow in his crosshairs he also managed to pull the trigger on bus company Greyhound.

Now Greyhound is firing back, albeit while more than a little bit confused as to why they were even targeted in the first place. During his online diatribe Baldwin wrote that the whole ordeal with American Airlines was like a “Greyhound bus experience.”

Firing back almost immediately was a representative for Greyhound who wrote:

“I don’t know if he’s ever been on one of our buses (it doesn’t sound like it), but there are about 17.6 million people who travel with us every year who I’m sure wouldn’t share [his] feelings.”

The rep further added:

“I don’t know why he’s mentioning Greyhound, but we take pride in our safe and enjoyable service.”

In defense of the national bus service I will personally say that I think Alec Baldwin has been acting like a whiny entitled brat since he was asked to follow the same guidelines as every other single passenger aboard commercial airlines.

In his full statement regarding the bus service Baldwin wrote:

“There are many now who walk the aisles of an airplane with a whistle around their neck and a clipboard in their hands and they have made flying a Greyhound bus experience.”  He then continued that he won’t keep his phone on “when the 1950s gym teacher is on duty.”

According to the flight crew Mr. Baldwin was using offensive language and calling them inappropriate names as they approached.

Baldwin has since apologized to other customers who were flying on the plane at the time he was kicked off the jet.

It seems like just about everyone with a smartphone is addicted to Words with Friends, and actor Alec Baldwin is no exception to that. He’s apparently so addicted, in fact, that he wouldn’t turn his phone off while on board an American Airlines flight from Los Angeles and, as a result, Baldwin was removed from the flight.

Baldwin’s involuntary removal from the flight was documented on Twitter, first by technology firm Activate founder Michael J. Wolf. He wrote in a tweet: “On an AA flight at LAX. Alec Baldwin removed from the plane. We had to go back to the gate. Terrible that everyone had to wait.”

Baldwin made his Twitter followers aware of the situation as well, saying: “Flight attendant on American reamed me out 4 playing WORDS W FRIENDS while we sat at the gate, not moving,”

According to Baldwin’s rep, the actor was able to get on another flight shortly after, but Baldwin wasn’t content to leave it with that. He wrote in another tweet:

“#theresalwaysunited Last flight w American. Where retired Catholic school gym teachers from the 1950′s find jobs as flight attendants.”

Saturday Night Live premiered for a 37th season on Saturday night and host Alec Baldwin took on hosting duties giving him the record for the most shows hosted by a single person.

Last night’s performance was the 16th time Baldwin hosting SNL placing him one hosting gig ahead of former SNL funnyman Steve Martin.

To ensure the win was on the up-and-up Baldwin had his blood testing for “performance-enhancing drugs” by fellow comedian Seth Rogen during the opening monologue at the request of Steve Martin.

One thing missing from the SNL show was Baldwin’s chance to take on FOX after they cut his Rupert Murdoch phone hacking joke from last weeks Primetime Emmy awards show (Murdoch’s News Corp. owns Fox News), causing Baldwin to walk off the show before it even began.

Uh oh.

Morgan Freeman- best known as the voice of pretty much everyone important ever in every film in the past decade or two- is out promoting his newest film, the Ashley Judd and Harry Connick, Jr. sap-fest, Dolphin Tale. The film seems to center around a dolphin that lost its fin, or something- normally a fatal condition for a dolphin, apparently- and the efforts of a little boy to replace the creature’s fin. Morgan Freeman plays the crotchety but fair old doctor who initially balks at the suggestions, but ends up replacing the fin and everything goes better than expected.

The film is probably not attracting film-goers with edgy tastes, and Freeman has gone and probably done what every studio dreads when a big star is out promoting a film- he’s alienated a lot of the audience. Freeman was promoting the film on CNN’s Piers Morgan when the conversation turned to the political climate. And the gravelly-voiced actor didn’t mince words when describing the Tea Party’s agenda:

“[The Tea Party's] stated policy, publicly stated, is to do whatever it takes to see to it that Obama only serves one term term. What’s, what does that, what underlines that? Screw the country. We’re going to do whatever we do to get this black man, we can, we’re going to do whatever we can to get this black man outta here.”

While many Americans were probably shouting, “go Morgan!” from their couches, several have taken offense to Freeman’s commentary. One notable liberal dissenter was Alec Baldwin, who said the Tea Party took issue with Obama’s character and policies, not his race. (Respectfully, Mr. Baldwin, have you seen some of their signs?)

Freeman has yet to respond to the backlash. Do you find his assessment on point, or was Freeman himself reflecting racial bias in his statement?

Last night saw the claws come out on Twitter, with conservative blogger/Fox correspondent Michelle Malkin and actor Alec Baldwin attacking one another over the execution of Troy Davis.

Davis, a convicted killer who maintained his innocence, was administered a lethal injection on Wednesday night. Things kicked off between Malkin and Baldwin on Thursday, with Malkin getting the ball rolling:

Malkin: “Waiting for Hollyweirdo @alecbaldwin ‘s ‘I am Troy Davis’ tweet…”

Baldwin then took the bait:

Baldwin: “Davis is dead Does that make you happier, @michellemalkin?”

Baldwin: “Everyone tweet that great thinker @michellemalkin and ask her what killing a potentially innocent man does to make you safer.”

Malkin: “@AlecBaldwin Direct your minions’ ire/rage/profanity/racism/sexism at the US Supreme Court, not me.”

Baldwin:: “C’mon!! Let’s go all Town Hall on that supreme thinker@michellemalkin. A world class, crypto fascist hater!”

Baldwin: “I wonder if @michellemalkin will push the needle in herself on a man the former FBI director said might have reasonable doubt on his side.”

Baldwin: “Every sensible American is appalled when police officer is killed. But the attendant charges are grave. U don’t want 2 kill an innocent man.”

Malkin: “ICYMI: Here’s @alecbaldwin dragging the MacPhail family into his Bush Derangement Syndrome rant http://is.gd/J7Oucx.”

Davis’s execution prompted responses from other celebrities, with Kim Kardashian chiming in:

She tweeted: “Such an injustice!!!! Troy Davis was executed! My prayers are with the Davis Family! #RIPTroyDavis.”

The execution came after the US Supreme Court rejected a last-ditch appeal – lawyers for Davis argued newly available evidence revealed false, misleading and inaccurate information was presented at the trial.

The case has divided the U.S., dramatically reopening the debate over the use of capital punishment.

Ben & Jerry’s recently released its newest flavor, Schweddy Balls, inspired by the classic SNL skit. The new flavor, vanilla ice cream with a hint of rum and loaded with fudge covered rum and malt balls, was even endorsed by Pete Schweddy (Alec Baldwin) himself. But not everyone is a fan of Schweddy Balls. Conservative group One Million Moms is protesting the “tasteless” ice cream.

One Million Moms said on its website:

“The vulgar new flavor has turned something as innocent as ice cream into something repulsive… Not exactly what you want a child asking for at the supermarket.”

Ben & Jerry’s knew that there was going to be some backlash against the ice cream flavor. A company spokesman said:

“The name is irreverent. But we’ve always been about having some irreverence and having some fun…. We’re not trying to offend people. Our fans get the humor.”

ABC reports that Schweddy Balls isn’t the first ice cream flavor that One Million Moms has found distasteful. The conservative group was also a bit offended when Ben & Jerry’s released Hubby Hubby, a spin-off of Chubby Hubby, to celebrate gay marriage.”

One Million Moms said:

“It seems that offending customers has become an annual tradition for Ben & Jerry’s.”

One Million Moms is asking other humorless folk to send an email to Ben & Jerry’s urging them to stop distribution of Schweddy Balls.

30 Rock star Alec Baldwin won’t be at the Emmy Awards tonight after he walked out on the show after a joke about News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch was cut from a segment he had recorded to open the broadcast.

Following a  Deadline.com confirmation of his departure Baldwin tweeted:

“I did a short Emmy pretape a few days ago. Now they tell me NewsCorp may cut the funniest line.”

The Emmy awards air on the News Corp. owned Fox TV network and apparently they were not comfortable attacking their own boss, especially in regards to the phone-hacking scandal which has given News Corp. more negative publicity than they have seen in years.

Entertainment Weekly spoke with Fox representatives who said cutting the joke came at the Fox level and not from top brass at News Corp.

Throwing some spin of their own into the mix, Fox officials say they cut the joke because it makes fun of a situation that carries with it serious allegations.

The clip has now been completely scrapped and Leonard Nimoy stepped in for a 100% re-shoot which will open the show.

Baldwin tweeted of the joke being cut:

“Fox did kill my NewsCorp hacking joke. Which sucks bc I think it would have made them look better. A little.”

I personally don’t agree with the decision by Fox officials, after all it’s not as if the scandal is going to disappear all together if one more joke is told about Rupert Murdoch and his employees boneheaded decisions.

Remember when Fox use to put anything on the TV just to be rebellious and different, I yearn for the Married with Children days when Fox was actually cutting edge and daring.

Alec Baldwin may take a bit of flack for his temper- perhaps deservedly so, considering his high-profile rant at his daughter with Kim Basinger a few years back where he shouted abuse at the child on an answering machine- but is it that unthinkable he’d go off on a barista?

While many coffee jockeys are pleasant and polite, it seems at least one out of four times you encounter the barista who takes slinging lattes all day way too seriously. There’s the type that tries to tell you what you want or advise you on your every-day-like-clockwork order, the vacant counter dude or the hostile critic that takes you to task for coffee sins. So it’s no surprise that when Baldwin encountered what sounds like the latter, he got his schweddy balls all in a twist.

What went down in the Manhattan Starbucks has been described differently by both parties, but it got real when the star took to his Twitter to mobilize irritated latte-drinkers against the errant barista. Baldwin got on his tweetable Huffy-bike, naming names and posting:

Starbucks on 93 and B’way. Uptight Queen barrista named JAY has an attitude problem.

He went there! But not wanting to appear to hate on the little guy, Baldwin followed up with:

Clyde, on the other hand, outside DINOSAUR BARBECUE @ W 125 n H River is MY MAN. Keeping the hickory ovens going, he is 2dayz Coolest NYer

Not surprisingly, the other baristas have their fellow employee’s back- one fumed to the New York Post after the tale went viral:

“I was here when it happened — it was really just him being an [expletive]. He was very rude and disrespectful and arrogant. He’s probably the rudest guy I’ve ever met… And [the employee] didn’t do anything wrong; it was all that dude just being psycho,. I saw a thing on ‘E’ a little while ago, and it was talking about how crazy he was. They were right.”

I can’t wait to taste Ben and Jerry’s Schweddy Balls. Inspired by the classic Saturday Night Live skit starring Alec Baldwin, Ben and Jerry’s has just created Schweddy Balls ice cream.

In case you were wondering just what Schweddy Balls taste like… The new ice cream will be vanilla ice cream with a hint of rum and loaded with fudge covered rum and malt balls.

Alec Baldwin said:

A limited release of Schweddy Balls will be hitting stores soon, and if it catches on, it could become a Ben and Jerry’s staple like Cherry Garcia. 

Ana Gasteyer, who co-starred in the Schweddy Balls skit, said:

“As a person and a performer, I am a sucker for holiday balls. And I have no doubt this ice cream will cause many to scream ‘Good Times.’”

Ben and Jerry’s has created countless pop culture flavors over the years, like Late Night Snack for Jimmy Fallon, but have they crossed the ice cream decency line with this sexual innuendo?

A spokesman for Ben and Jerry’s told Time:

“The name is irreverent. But we’ve always been about having some irreverence and having some fun…. We’re not trying to offend people. Our fans get the humor.”

In good taste or not, I can’t wait to get my lips around Ben and Jerry’s Schweddy Balls.

Over the weekend the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox have been battling it out in one of baseball’s favorite feuds and joining in the fun of that rivalry has been baseball fans and A-List actors Alec Baldwin and John Krasinski who have been airing ads in support of their teams.

Right now it’s Baldwin who’s winning the feud after photoshopping a picture of Krasinski (a Red Sox fan) in a bikini and then putting the ad on display at Yankee Stadium.

The actors are using New Era ads to show off the rivalry that exists between the two cities after they began trash talking each others teams way back in April, trash talking that led to Baldwin punching Krasinski and a funny ad featuring Krasinski painting Baldwin’s dog with the Red Sox logo, only to find out that the dog actually belongs to Baldwin’s neighbor.

In what will be his SNL record setting 16th time hosting the hilarious late-night sketch comedy show, Baldwin is slated to make his return to the famous Studio 8H – where SNL has aired since it’s inception in 1975 – on September 24th.

Although Alec – currently tied at 15 with his Twitter BFF Steve Martin for most times as guest host – was never an official cast member on SNL, he appeared so regularly on the hit comedy show that he has his very own “best of” DVD.

Notable performances by Baldwin in the past have included his role as Pete Schweddy in “Schweddy Balls,” an impression of Charles Nelson Reilly, and a role as a Scoutmaster in the Adam Sandler “Canteen Boy” sketch series.

In addition to the Baldwin announcement NBC also has revealed that the second episode in the upcoming season will feature “Bridesmaids” star Melissa McCarthy, who will be making her SNL hosting debut.

So much more Alec Baldwin gossip now he’s got a Twitter!

There has been a lot of disappointing talk this week about Rep. Anthony Weiner not running for mayor of New York City after all. Baldwin, 53, has always been unafraid of politics, and the man who plays the comically conservative Jack Donaghy on 30 Rock has not ruled out running for real life office as the New York City Mayor.

The Los Angeles Times quotes Baldwin’s shiny new Twitter feed regarding his mayoral aspirations:

“It’s a long way till November of 2013,” the actor said Wednesday on his recently activated Twitter account, where he had already opined on the Weiner and John Edwards scandals (“Wiener should not resign”; “I lend you my phone to lie to your wife about an affair that could wreck your campaign. Is the phone call a campaign contribution?”) as well as offered his political opinions in general.

A rep for Baldwin later confirmed the actor is considering a run, and he has stated earlier he plans to leave 30 Rock when his contract expires in 2012. (Which is so totally not a long way, Alec!)
