Alec Baldwin Ready to Host the Oscars

Alec Baldwin isn’t nervous about hosting the Academy Awards.

The ‘30 Rock’ star is co-hosting next year’s ceremony with Steve Martin and believes there are higher expectations on the comic actor because he has fronted the Oscars ceremony before.

He quipped, “It is all on Steve. Steve Martin has done this before, while for me it is the first time. All the pressure is on Steve Martin.”

Despite his confidence, the actor is still amazed he was given the job and keeps waiting for someone to cancel his booking.

He joked, “I am doing it until they change their mind. I do have some preparations, but it is a secret.”

Steve, who fronted the 73rd and 75th Academy Awards, and Alec are the first people to co-host the ceremony since the first Oscars show in 1929.

Producers Adam Shankman and Adam Shankman said, “We think the team of Steve and Alec are the perfect pair of hosts for the Oscars.

“Steve will bring the experience of having hosted the show in the past and Alec will be a completely fresh personality for this event.”

The 82nd Academy Awards take place on March 7 at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.

Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin are to co-host the Academy Awards.

The comedians will be the first people to co-host the ceremony as a pair since the first Oscars show in 1929.

Steve joked, “I am happy to co-host the Oscars with my enemy Alec Baldwin.”

Steve, who has presented the show twice before, earned an Emmy Award nomination for his first turn in 2001, but this will be the first time ‘30 Rock’ star Alec has taken on hosting duties.

Referring to Steve’s musical abilities, Alec joked, “I don’t play the banjo but I’m thrilled to be hosting the Oscars – it’s the opportunity of a lifetime.”

Oscars producers Adam Shankman and Bill Mechanic said, “We think the team of Steve and Alec are the perfect pair of hosts for the Oscars.

“Steve will bring the experience of having hosted the show in the past and Alec will be a completely fresh personality for this event.”

Baldwin was Oscar-nominated in 2004 for his role in ‘The Cooler’ and won consecutive Emmy awards for his role in ‘30 Rock’, which Martin has also guest-starred in.

Among the actors expected to receive nominations at the 82nd Academy Awards, which take place on March 7, are Meryl Streep for ‘Julie and Julia’, Christoph Waltz for ‘Inglourious Basterds’ and George Clooney for ‘Up In The Air’.

Critically acclaimed drama ‘Precious’ – starring singer Mariah Carey – is widely-tipped to receive the nod for Best Picture.

Alec Baldwin Considering Running for Governor of Ohio

Following in the footsteps of other Celebrities who used their fame to propel them into politics, Alec Baldwin is currently considering running for Governor of Ohio.

Ronald Regan, Jesse Ventura, Clint Eastwood and Arnold Schwarzenegger did it, and there are certainly enough Baldwins left to carry on the acting legacy if one drops out to get into politics, so why not?

Baldwin, a staunch Liberal, told Playboy:

Playboy: Will you run for office?

Baldwin: “I’ll put it this way. The desire is there; that’s one component. The other component is opportunity. A law firm in a liberal Democratic bastion in Ohio state politics sent me a binder with a cover letter that read, “Mr. Baldwin, here’s who we represent, the kinds of cases we handle, our credentials in Ohio state politics. We want you to move to Ohio and run for governor. We will launch your career.”

Alec Baldwin Banned from the Philippines over Mailorder Bride remarks

Alec Baldwin has been officially banned from the Philippines over remarks he made about mailorder brides on Letterman, May 12.

Philippines Immigration Commissioner, Marcelino Libanan, released a statement Thursday saying:

“By being in the bureau’s blacklist, Baldwin is forbidden from entering the country as he is deemed an undesirable alien.”

The ban came after Baldwin’s appearance on Letterman, May 12 where he made comments about his previous failed relationships. When asked if he would have more kids, Baldwin said that he would love to have more children and that he was “thinking about getting a Filipino mail-order bride at this point – or a Russian one.”

Baldwin later realized his remarks were causing outrage and posted the following apology published on the Huffington Post, saying:

“I’d like to offer an apology and a clarification to remarks I made recently.

While on the David Letterman program, I joked that I might need a ‘mail-order bride’ to achieve the goal of having more children in my life. I believe that most people understood that this was a joke and took it as such. (A dated reference, no doubt, and another sign of my advancing age.)

However, I do apologize to anyone who took offense.”

Which was obviously not enough to convince the Philippines government of his sincerity.

Alec Baldwin’s new love Johanna Cox

Alec Baldwin is said to have found new love in the arms of reality TV contestant and fashion editor Johnanna Cox.

According to reports, Baldwin took Cox to the New York premiere of his new movie Lymelife. Witnesses said that pair acted like a couple and were holding hands.

A graduate of Georgetown University, 29 year old Cox originally worked as a China analyst in Washington D.C, before pursing her career as a fashion writer. Cox won CW’s reality TV show Stylista in 2008, with her reward for winning a 12 month gig as a “fashion editor” for Elle Magazine, where she’s currently working.

Now PETA wants to ban horse drawn carriages

Actress Kristen Johnston is the face on a new campaign for PETA that is attempting to have horse drawn carriage banned.

Johnston appeared nude for the campaign in a Lady Godiva pose per the picture above. Other celebs supporting the cause are Pink, Alec Baldwin, and Chrissie Hynde. The campaign is currently focused on New York, where there are around 100 horse drawn carriages doing the rounds. Johnston says on the matter (via The Gothamist)

“The horses go from this horrible job where they’re pulling people through the streets of Manhattan all day to this tiny jail cell in this building that’s like a cramped parking garage. I’d say to tourists considering coming to New York, there’s so much amazing stuff to do here. But please do something else. I hope within the next year that there are no more horse-drawn carriages.”

Thousands of years of human history, and now PETA wants to ban horse drawn carriages? WTF? No one would argue that some animals may be treated poorly, but if PETA had its way we’d still all be living in caves, or alternatively worshiping animals as gods above humans. Just when you think you’ve seen PETA go to extremes, they out do themselves once again.
