The options come as part of the newly launched BuddyUpdates feature for AOL’s instant messaging platform. The feature lets you link your buddy list to third-party sites including Twitter, Blogger, Flickr, del.icio.us, Mixx, StumbleUpon, and YouTube. There’s also an option to add an unlisted service, so you could theoretically connect almost anything — a non-Blogger blog or a FriendFeed page, for example.

Once linked up, friends can see your recent activity from the AIM sign-in page or right within the AIM window itself. The BuddyUpdates service is still under beta mode.

The company announced the launch of AIM Money this morning. The new program will offer revenue sharing for programmers who create Open AIM applications. AIM Money will tie into AOL’s Open AIM 2.0 platform for developers.

To qualify, any application has to have at least two of five “value-added features” — things like advertising, the AIM start page, or the AIM Toolbar.

There’s no charge to participate in the AIM Money program. Any resulting payments will be sent out via PayPal.

The announcement came with word of the release of AIM 6.8, which includes a slew of new built-in mini-applications among other features.
