Arsenio Hall, Adam Carolla, George Takei Join ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ Cast

Donald Trump gave up his chance to be president so that he could host another season of “Celebrity Apprentice.” And let’s be thankful that he did. The cast this year includes former late night host Arsenio Hall, angry comedian Adam Carolla, and Tia Carrere who played the smoking hot singer Casandra in “Wayne’s World.”

The 18-person cast includes American Idol singers, race car drivers, motorcycle builders, pop stars, and magicians.

Trump told the Hollywood Reporter:

“It’s hard to top the last few seasons but we think we’ve done it… I think we have a great, very diverse cast.”

Trump said that the 12th season of the “Celebrity Apprentice will follow the same formula as past seasons. The celebrity contestants will compete for $250,000 for the charity of their choice.

Trump added:

“We didn’t want to change much — we’re not looking to reinvent the show in its 12th season…”

Adam Carolla Rants About Occupy Movement, Plans Tour [Video]

Adam Carolla is coming to a town near you. The former “Loveline” host is taking his show on the road for the holidays. The “Adam Carolla Hates the Holidays” tour will start tomorrow in Michigan and will end in February in California.

Carolla announced the tour shortly after one of his podcasts, where he rants about the Occupy protests, went viral. Carolla, who has earned his living by giving his frank opinion on everything from sex, to cars, to politics, says that the Occupy Movement is the product of participation medals.

According to Mediate, Carolla believes that the people at the occupy protests aren’t burnt out from corporate greed, they’re just part of a culture of entitlement (they live in a snow globe) that doesn’t understand that they have to work to get paid.

In a lengthy rant, Carolla says:

“We’ve created a bunch of self-entitled monsters… ‘I want my Most Valuable Player trophy.’ ‘Well, you’re the slowest, fattest guy on the team….’ Everyone gets involved and everyone gives everyone a participation trophy and then everyone feels good about themselves but it’s not based on anything. You should feel good about yourself because of your accomplishments. And, when these people become adults and enter the work force… self-entitled pricks who think the world owes them a living.”

But Carolla said he isn’t going on tour to preach about his views on the Occupy Movement. Nope, he’s going on tour for money.

When asked why he decided to bring his hugely popular podcast (it holds the Guinness World Record for most downloads) on the road, Carolla told the Denver Post:

“To make money, pretty much. For a guy who’s worked at real jobs that are actually hard, coming to a town and going to theater is just awesome and easy.”

Patricia Heaton Preaches Jesus on Adam Corolla Show

The former “Everybody Loves Raymond” star is creating buzz and it has nothing to do with her new web comedy series “Versailles.” This Monday Patricia Heaton was a guest on the Adam Carolla show; she used the opportunity to attempt to convert the well known atheist to Christianity.

“I think it’s interesting that you keep having these born agains come into your life – your driver, the guys you were in construction with,” Heaton said on the show. “C.S. Lewis calls those the hounds of heaven.”

The fact that this took place just a few days after Harold Camping rapture scam left the doors wide open for Corolla, but surprisingly he didn’t express opposition to the religious advances. Instead he admitted he was comfortable in his state of apathy towards it all.

“My whole thing is I’m an atheist. I’ll be over here taking a nap. If you want to spend your weekend volunteering … God bless you. Get more of those gang bangers off our streets. I’ll be the lazy atheist sitting around at home. I’ll be reaping the rewards of you pulling the gang bangers off the streets and giving them food.”

Tom Joyner Morning Show Cancelled, But Not Gone

The syndicated “Tom Joyner Morning Show” is being taken off the air at V103, Chicago’s WVAZ-FM 102.7, the station has announced. It will be replaced with “The Steve Harvey Morning Show” starting next week.

Tom Joyner Fired

Tom Joyner’s 13-year run with V103 ends next Tuesday. “The Steve Harvey Morning Show,” currently aired on WGCI-FM 107.5, will be simulcast on both stations through the end of March, Clear Channel tells Chicago-area media outlets. After that point, a replacement program is expected to be named for the timeslot in WGCI.

The V103 program director described Tom Joyner as “great partner” with the station, “making it difficult to part ways.” He did not provide a reason for the decision.

“The Steve Harvey Morning Show” has been on WGCI since 2007. Harvey, interestingly, has replaced Joyner before, too: He took over for him at WGCI as on on-air personality in 1996, the Chicago Tribune reports.

What’s Next for Tom Joyner

Tom Joyner isn’t giving up his gig altogether. The host writes on his blog that his radio program will still be produced and available online. The following is Joyner’s statement in response to the cancellation:

“We always say that when we come back from vacation something big has either happened or is about to happen. Well, this one topped them all. After 16 years, the Tom Joyner Morning Show won’t be broadcast on a local Chicago radio station at this time.

For Sybil and me, our relationship with the Chicago radio listeners goes back more than 20 years and believe me it has not ended by any stretch of the imagination. Friends and family in the Chicago market will continue to listen to the Party with a Purpose every morning on www.BlackAmericaWeb.com. So this isn’t the end, it’s just a change, so please pass this e-mail along to them.

Even though we’re heard in more than 100 markets around the country, Chicago is home, it’s the Mother Ship, the Flagship, all those words that mean it is the place that launched the TJMS. It’s where we came from and where we always could go back to. And we’re still there, just in a different way-for now!

We’ve had great times in Chicago and we’ll be there soon to officially thank the thousands and thousands of you who made us what we are, and will be here with us as we take this to another level. We got where we are by knowing who you are, what you want and by Super Serving our audience, just like my mentor John H. Johnson taught me to do.

This world is changing, but doing the right thing never does, and we will continue to do what we’ve always done for the African American Community.

92.3 K-Rock Going Top 40; Opie and Anthony Going Away

CBS Radio is shifting its New York rock outlet, 92.3 K-Rock (WXRK), to top 40. K-Rock will become “92.3 Now FM” as of 5 p.m. this Wednesday night, Billboard has confirmed. That also means the end of the line for popular DJs Opie and Anthony.

The switch from 92.3 K-Rock to 92.3 Now is being made to better target “teen demographics,” a CBS exec tells Billboard, as well as increase appeal to the typical 18-34 market. The station’s new focus is describing as “contemporary hit music.” The station already has a new Web site up with a countdown to Wednesday night.

Opie and Anthony Fired

As for Opie and Anthony — aka Greg Hughes and Anthony Cumia — the DJs have confirmed that their show is coming to an end.

“It’s official,” Opie announced in a message on his Twitter profile. “KROCK has just informed us that our services are no longer needed.#2 M18-49,#3 M25-54. This is really bad for our show,PERIOD!”

An hour later, another tweet followed: “It’s officially over. Extremely bummed. This is not good for our show, period!”

The Latest Change

The 92.3 K-Rock change is only the latest shift enacted by CBS Radio this year. Just last month, CBS announced plans to change its L.A. talk station, 97.1 KLSX, to a new top 40 format under the name “AMP RADIO.” The move resulted in on-air personality Adam Carolla losing his job, along with DJ Tom Leykis and other staff members. Needless to say, people were upset over the decision. Our story about the news was flooded with comments for days.

As for 92.3 K-Rock, the station took on the name in 2007. Opie and Anthony had been on-the-air there, however, for about three years, dating back to when the station was called Free FM.

Adam Carolla Show Cancelled? Here’s the Scoop

Adam Carolla, the radio personality whose “Adam Carolla Show” program took the timeslot once held by Howard Stern on CBS Radio, has lost his job.

Update (Thursday, 2/19): CBS Radio has now officially confirmed all of the information reported here. KLSX will change to “AMP RADIO” this Friday, February 20, at 5 p.m. The new format is described as “playing all the hits.” Friday will mark the final broadcasts for Adam Carolla, Tom Leykis, and Frosty, Heidi, and Frank. Thus far, none of them has discussed their plans for the future.

Earlier in the week, multiple sources had corroborated reports that Carolla’s radio show had been cancelled and that Carolla had been let go. Some rumors correctly suggested his home station, Los Angeles’s 97.1 KLSX, was preparing to switch from its current talk format to a more top-40-style format. Other speculation correctly suggested the change would leave KLSX personality Tom Leykis out of a job as well.

As for the format shift, radio gossip site RadioInsight first discovered that the domains AmpRadioLA.com, Amp971.com, and Amp971fm.com were all registered anonymously on February 9. Additionally, AmpRadio971.com and 971AmpRadio.com were registered in the name of programming consultant Anthony Acampora about a month ago. (Amp Radio is evidently a youth-oriented format that’s been used in other markets.)

Carolla, interestingly, signed a “multiyear extension” for his “Adam Carolla Show” program at the end of 2007. A CBS Radio exec said at the time that the show had “far exceeded [CBS's] expectations and proven to be a listener favorite,” even adding that he “anticipate[d] even more success for the program in the years to come.”
