Abbie Cornish loves the remake of RoboCop.

Jose Padilha’s RoboCop remake won’t hit the big screen until February 7, 2014, but that’s not stopping lead actress Abbie Cornish from singing its praises. The Limitless star raved about playing Ellen Murphy in the remake of the sci-fi action classic.

Abbie Cornish says RoboCop is going to be “a massively kick-ass film. … I actually have a voicemail message from Jose Padilha, the director. He says in the message, ‘I don’t think we’ve got a great movie. I think we’ve got a classic.’”

With a cast including Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, and Samuel L. Jackson, the RoboCop remake shows signs of definitely kicking ass.

The story of RoboCop happens in the year 2028, with mega-company OmniCorp being at the center of all robot technology. America’s wars are being won thanks to OmniCorp’s drones, mirroring real-life events of today, and OmniCorp wants to bring the drone technology to the streets in an effort to stop crime. Alex Murphy is a role-model; a good cop, a good father, and a loving husband. Alex, played by Joel Kinnaman, is wounded in the line of duty, and brought back to life by Omnicorp’s technology, therefore becoming the RoboCop. Alex now has abilities he never had before, but with new abilities comes new problems.

The original RoboCop, Peter Weller has his own take on the remake:

“I wish them well, but they’re going to have to tow a heavy barge, man. I just watched the [original] movie on its 25th anniversary; we had two screenings … one in Dallas, where it was shot, and then at UCLA where [the film's writers] Michael Miner and Ed Neumeier met. … I thought, ‘This is one of the most brilliant movies I’ve ever seen.’ It’s prescient economically, in the privatization of politics, about race — I mean, they wrote that in 1981, for crying out loud!”

The Robocop remake is building a pretty strong cast. Samuel Jackson, Gary Oldman, and Joel Kinnaman are already attached to the movie and now it appears that Abbie Cornish will be joining the cast as well.

Deadline reports that Cornish has been offered the role of Robocop’s wife. The character believes that her husband has been killed. Little does she know that he’s actually just a crime fighting robot.

IMDB describes the plot of the movie, saying:

“In a crime-ridden city, a fatally wounded cop returns to the force as a powerful cyborg with submerged memories haunting him.”

Brazilian filmmaker Jose Padilha, who will be at the helm of the Robocop remake, said that his movie will deal with Robocop’s transformation from street cop to crime fighting robot.

Padilha said:

“I have my take on it. And I can tell you this: In the first RoboCop when Alex Murphy is shot, gunned down, you see some hospitals and stuff and then you cut to him as RoboCop. My movie is between those two cuts. How do you make RoboCop? How do you slowly bring a guy to be a robot? How do you actually take humanity out of someone and how do you program a brain, so to speak, and how does that affect an individual?”
