Minneapolis, MN (AHN) – If the New York Yankees are to end a nine-year World Series drought, the entire team must perform.

However, some players’ performances are put under more scrutiny than others.

Enter Alex Rodriguez.

The Yankees $275 million man came into this year’s playoffs batting a paltry .159 with one RBI in New York’s last three playoff appearances.

Things have changed.

Rodriguez added to his playoff resurgence with a homer Sunday to lead the New York Yankees to a three-game sweep of the Minnesota Twins with a 4-1 win.

A-Rod went 5-for-11 with two homers and six RBI in the series, including a game-tying two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth during game two.

Jorge Posada also homered during a pivotal seventh inning that featured New York’s third comeback in as many games.

Andy Pettitte pitched 6 1-3 innings of one-run ball, allowing just one RBI off the bat of MVP candidate Joe Mauer.

Robinson Cano drove in a run and Posada added two more RBI in the eighth to cushion the lead.

Former Yankee Carl Pavano pitched well in allowing just two earned runs in seven innings, but was still charged with the loss.

Mariano Rivera got his first save of the postseason by recording the final four outs.

New York faces the Los Angeles Angels, who swept the Boston Red Sox, in the American League Championship Series starting Friday.

The Twins had won 17 of their last 21 games and defeated the Detroit Tigers in a one-game playoff to earn their postseaon bid.

The game was the last MLB contest to be played in the Metrodome, with the Twins moving to Target Field next season.

Madam Kristen Davis names A-Rod as client, lover

Former Madam Kristen Davis, best known for organizing hookers for former New York Governor Elliot Spitzer has been named as both a supplier and former lover of disgraced New York Yankee’s player Alex Rodreiguez.

According to the NY Daily News, the relationship started with the supply of hookers, then turned into something more personal. Davis is said to have found A-Rod “so charming she “dated him herself for free.” A-Rod apparently wanted more, and showered Davis “with flowers, jewelry, persistence and heated e-mails.”

The newspaper confirmed the story with Davis, who said that “all I can say is our paths have definitely crossed personally and professionally.”

Notably, A-Rod was married at the time. You can now add hookers to A-Rod’s list of vices next to steroids.

A-Rod admits to using supplements at press conference

Things keep going from bad to worse for New York Yankee’s drug cheat Alex “A-Rod” Rodriguez.

A-Rod fronted the media at a press conference earlier today and admitted to having used Ripped Fuel, a nutritional supplement later banned by MLB.

Ripped Fuel contained the herb ephedra, which as well as allegedly being a performance enhancing substance, wasn’t without serious risk, being blamed for heart failure to kidney and liver disease. Ephedra was thought to be a cause of the death of major league pitcher Steve Bechler during the 2003 spring training season.

A-Rod also spoke more on his steroid abuse, claiming among other things:

“I didn’t think they were steroids. That, again, is part of being young and stupid. It was over the counter, it was pretty basic. It was really amateur hour. It was two guys doing a very amateur and immature thing. We probably didn’t even take it right.”

That his cousin injected him

Rodriguez said he was injected with the steroid by his cousin twice a month, though later he said it wasn’t always twice month, but that was the average of usage over the three-year period.

“I’m not sure what the benefit was [of taking it],” Rodriguez said. He said using was “half physical and half mental.” But Rodriguez, while saying he did feel more energy, wouldn’t actually measure the full benefit of the steroid. He said, “it was hard to say.”

A-Rod also denied ever using human growth hormone or amphetamines….so that makes things better

Although he’s a disgrace to sport, I’ll credit him on one thing: he has at least come forward to discuss the issue, and maybe, just maybe his downfall might be a lesson to kiddies and others tempted to take steroids as well.

Alex Rodriguez admits taking steroids

Alex Rodriguez has admitted that he used steroids, telling ESPN that he used the performance-enhancing drugs from 2001-03 while at Texas.

“When I arrived in Texas in 2001, I felt an enormous amount of pressure. I felt like I had all the weight of the world on top of me and I needed to perform, and perform at a high level every day” said Rodriguez.

“And I did take a banned substance and, you know, for that I’m very sorry and deeply regretful. And although it was the culture back then and Major League Baseball overall was very — I just feel that — you know, I’m just sorry. I’m sorry for that time. I’m sorry to fans. I’m sorry for my fans in Texas. It wasn’t until then that I ever thought about substance of any kind, and since then I’ve proved to myself and to everyone that I don’t need any of that.”

“Back then it was a different culture. It was very loose. I was young. I was stupid,” Rodriguez said. “I was naive, and I wanted to prove to everyone that, you know, I was worth, you know — and being one of the greatest players of all time.”

Rodriguez will be remembered…as one of the biggest drug cheats of all time.

The confession follows Rodriguez being named by Sports Illustrated as a drug cheat February 7.

New York Yankees’ Alex Rodriguez tested positive to steroids in 2003, according to a report from Sports Illustrated.

Rodriguez, perhaps the most successful player in the history of baseball, holding a range of records including most home runs, refused to answer questions about the allegation.

SI claims that Rodriguez is on a list of positive results obtained in 2003 under an agreement that no results or player names would be released as part of an assessment into how widespread steroids were in the sport.

If at least 5% of the tests were positive, however, baseball would institute random testing, with players testing positive publicly identified and suspended. Of 1,198 players tested, 104 came back positive.

The list of names is subject to a court battle, after the US government seized the test results as part of the BALCO investigation.

Donna Karan Is After A-Rod

It looks like while Madonna’s ficando with Jesus Luz, designer Donna Karan is moving in on her “friend” Alex Rodriguez. Page Six has reported that A-Rod partied the New Year away with a celeb-studded crowd including Ashton Kutcher, Bruce Willis, Demi Moore, and Donna Karan at the exclusive Parrot Cay island… and had an opportunity to hook up with Karan if he so pleased.

An insider told the paper that A-Rod stayed “very close to [Karan] who only had eyes for him and followed him around all night on New Year’s Eve,” BUT he still happens to be enamored with Madge. It seems odd, since Madonna’s an Ice Queen Extraordinaire; there must be some unspoken perks like really eating better and going through punishing daily workouts. As for the sex, erm. . . you probably remember the rules. Perhaps A-Rod needs to conserve his strength to stay a star slugger, anyway.

A sports memorabilia collector is hoping you want to pay good money for some underwear worn by the one and only A-Rod, aka Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees. I wish I could say I were making this up.

The SportsWorld collector’s shop in New England somehow got the official New York Yankees Spandex A-Rod wore during the 2008 season and has put the garment up for sale on eBay. A-Rod’s underwear is marked with his uniform number and — thankfully — have been washed. (Yes, the eBay description makes a point to mention that.)

And, in case any of the ladies (or gentleman) out there were wondering, the size is XL.

The auction ends at 1:38 p.m. PST Thursday. As of time of this publication, the highest bid is at $420. It started at $9.99.

Guitar Hero World Tour with Kobe Bryant, Michael Phelps, A-Rod, and Tony Hawk

Guitar Hero World Tour went on sale yesterday. At $189.99, it surely is not cheap. My daughter was attempting to sway me in buying her one but I stood my ground. My son who has his own small gaming blog thinks that it’s not worth it. Personally, it’s the economy that tells me not to get it.

Just kidding, it’s this advertisement that tells me not to get one. It just doesn’t seem right. We’ll just stick to Rock Band.
