With 3D increasing in popularity, Sharp has announced that they will be coming out with the largest 3D TV on the market, an 80 inch monster capable of transporting you to another planet. Okay, that last part may not be true, but still…80 inches combined with 3D is sure to be an entertaining experience.

This is all of course if more 3D content comes out this year and not just stuck on the $12 a pop (or more) movie theater screens.

“This new model will boast 240 Hz refresh rate, double that of the LC-80LE632U, 3D technology with use of active shutter glasses, and a new SmartCentral interface for the various online services and apps available through the HDTV. It will also feature the same built-in Wi-Fi of the other model, and will use Sharp’s 3D X-Gen pannel with four-color Quattron technology.”

The other model they’re talking about is the 80 inch LED HDTV that Sharp came out with last year. The built-in wifi will allow consumers to access third party content such as Netflix, Hulu, and apps.

Just how big is an 80 inch television? Think of a 55 inch TV, already quite massive in itself, and add, according to Sharp, 108% more viewing area. All we can say is, if you’ve got a small living room, good luck fitting this sucker in without taking up a large chunk of the floor and wall.

Pricing for the 3D monster hasn’t been announced yet, though expect to pay a good amount of money as the model without 3D will run you around $5,000.

Not only can you now diagnose cancer using your smartphone but now you can perform a brain scan on the go thanks to a company by the name of Milab.

This portable brain scanner consists of a low-cost 14-channel EEG headset with a wireless connection to a smartphone (they are using a Nokia N900) with the smartphone providing a touch-based interface with real-time brain state recording with a little bit of 3D reconstruction thrown in for good measure.

There’s no word on price at this point but I’m sure you won’t care when the time comes for the peace of mind you’ll have. In the meantime here’s a quick video showing it at work.

3D smartphones are beginning to leave their part on the world and both HTC and LG helped them expand their reach today by officially announcing the HTC Evo 3D and LG Thrill 4G.

The Evo 3D (pictured above) is coming to Sprint, while the LG Thrill 4G is headed to AT&T.

On the flip side the LG Thrill 4G which will be available this summer features a glasses free display with a 4.3-inch touchscreen, Android 2.3 (upgradeable to Froyo) and dual 5-megapixel cameras.

If you have $1,700 laying around and you don’t mind shooting in 1080i (yes i, not p) HD, you might want to consider throwing down some cash on the JVC GZ-TD1, the first fully capable HD camcorder to offer on the go 3D recording.

The camera comes with 64GB flash storage built-in and supports an SDXC card slot for added memory.

Using two 3.3 megapixel CMOS sensors the camera creates a stereoscopic effect for 3D and is also capable of creating side-by-side 3D and even 2D footage if you would prefer.

One issue with the camcorders HD capabilities is that it films in MVC format which only a few devices currently support, however side-by-side mode and 2D can work on various devices, including blu-ray players.

Also included are dual 5X, f1.2 lenses which JVC says will provide sharp and bright images.

The camera was shown off at CES and it worked well as a standard 3D camera, while the 3D shooting took a bit of finessing (you’ll get better results once you figure out the best way to shoot for 3D results).

Perhaps once the camcorder hits a more reasonable price range I’ll think about picking one up, of course I would then also have to run out and purchase a 3D television and I’m not quite ready to make the jump to such crappy technology at this time.

3D TV sporting events and movies are still slow to arrive at market, but that hasn’t stopped 3Net from announcing and preparing to release the world’s first 24 hour 3D TV network.

Set to launch on DirecTV channel 107 on February 13th the network is a joint venture of Sony, Discovery Communications and IMAX and will feature two one-hour long original programs in 3D, China Revealed and Forgotten Planet, while a longer movie called Into The Deep 3D will debut a short time afterward.

Programming will start at 8PM on the 13th although a full lineup of shows and station subscription cost have not yet been revealed.

3D TV sales are not gaining the same type of steam Plasma, LCD and LED TVs have managed, then again there hasn’t been much programming for those TVs, it should be interesting to see how early adopters react to the new channel and how those choices affect TV sales.

A recent survey in Japan has revealed the game series most Japanese gamers would like to try on a big-screen 3D television. 1,072 Japanese internet users – 68% female to 32% male – said they’d like to see a Mario game in 3D over any other title. Mario Kart and Final Fantasy were second and third in the list. Of course, we know for certain that a 3D Mario Kart game is on the way.

Somewhat surprisingly, the Dragon Quest RPG series, a sales juggernaut in Japan, didn’t feature in the top 30 games picked – but Need for Speed did. Groan. Here’s the full list:

Japan dreams of Super Mario in 3D is a post from: The Inquisitr

A complete gimmick engineered by a panicking movie industry they might be, but the games industry seems happy to leap atop the 3D bandwagon. Activision and developer Treyarch have jointly announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops will feature stereoscopic 3D visuals in all versions of the game – PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Of course, you’ll also need to own a costly 3D-ready TV or NVIDIA 3D Vision-ready PC, and you’ll still need to wear the daft active shutter glasses. But it’s there, if you’re rich enough and fancy the idea of virtual bullets flying past your ears in a mildly unconvincing fashion.

Treyarch is hoping the lifespan of Black Ops will mean more and more people get to try the technology as 3D TVs become more popular, but so far the critics aren’t completely bowled over. Kotaku got an exclusive hands-on with the 3D mode, and ending up feeling not-amazed.

Call of Duty: Black Ops hits a store near you on November 9. Something tells me you might hear more about this little-known game before then.

The 12 minute animated short film Sintel was initiated by the Blender Foundation as a way to promote the use of the free and open sourced 3D creation suite called Blender. The initial funding for the short came from 1,000′s of donations and once more proves that this model can work to help in the independent animation film business.

Nintendo showed off a truckload of games for the Nintendo 3DS yesterday (see a full video here). However, it isn’t one of Nintendo’s own games that really showed off the system’s technical prowess. While I love Nintendo deeply for bringing me a new Pilotwings title, Konami’s Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater 3D Edition is the real graphical powerhouse.

Metal Gear games are famed for their looks as much as their terrible stories and awesome bosses, but this must be the most visually arresting handheld game … well, ever. It’s very clearly a game with 3D visuals, because the trailer wastes no time in throwing things RIGHT IN YOUR FACE from the first moment.

All in all, pretty stunning; check out the trailer below and try telling me PSP 2 doesn’t have a mountain to climb:

On Wednesday, Nintendo has promised to spill the beans on the Nintendo 3DS – namely, when we can get it, and what it will cost.

For Nintendo, telling us when they’ll announce something as big as this – an announcement of an announcement, if you will – is a nice way of building hype. That is … until a trashy German newspaper comes along and blurts out your secrets.

That’s right: according to today’s edition of Bild, the Nintendo 3DS will launch on November 11 in Japan, and in the first quarter of 2011 in Europe. No U.S. details were revealed, but Bild did claim the device will cost €200, about $270 at current exchange rates. If that figure is right, I’d actually expect a $200 price point in the States; game hardware often sells on a €1 = $1 basis.

Bild also says Mario Kart 3D, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, and Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle will be launch games. That’s, er, a heck of a launch line-up.

Of course, whether you actually believe the paper is another matter. That said, it has a good record at this kind of thing. Nintendo Everything points out that Bild caught wind of the Wii two days before it was announced, so who knows? What I do know is that Nintendo needs to plug all these leaks in its PR division fo’ real; when was the last time a big Nintendo hardware announcement didn’t get leaked early?

Nintendo has already promised to unveil a release date for its Nintendo 3DS handheld at a September 29th press conference, but it may have been beaten to the punch.

A Twitter user named “nocchisan” who claims to be a former employee for Japanese peripheral maker Keys Factory has revealed that he helped design a bunch of 3DS accessories, and that these would be launched on November 20th in Japan, directly alongside the 3D-ready console.

To add some spice to the mix, the tweet has now been taken down, as well as nocchisan’s whole Twitter account. All of which could mean something or nothing, but if Nintendo’s lawyers did indeed get the tweet removed, they were a tad slow in doing so.

Sony has admitted PlayStation 3 owners will be waiting longer than expected for the update that allows 3D Blu-ray playback on the console. I’m devoid of sympathy, because if you can afford a PS3 and 3DTV, you frankly deserve a bit of suffering in your life. Nyaaaaaah, rich kids. Not that I’m bitter.

Anyway, at its IFA 2010 press event in Berlin today, the company admitted the system update is now due in October, rather than September.

I know, I know, it sucks because you’re dying to crack open your sealed copy of The Polar Express 3D, but dem the breaks, kids. On the bright side, there are still only about eight 3D Blu-ray movies available to buy, so, y’know, maybe, uh, get a bit more time in with WipEout HD?

Because that’s how hype works nowadays, kids. Rather than just give us a damn release date and price for the Nintendo 3DS, Ninty thought they’d torture gamers some more and announce when they were going to announce said date. It’s an announcement of an announcement. Groan.

But let’s run with this anyway, because it’s a slow news day and HELL THIS IS THE 3DS RIGHT DUDEZ?! In a nutshell, Nintendo will be revealing the price and release date for its new handheld on September 29th. The company shared this nugget with Bloomberg Japan, and it’s a date many gamers, myself included, will be keenly anticipating.

In fact, just for the hell of it, I’ll stake my guess now: I’m going with $199.99 and a release in the US and Japan in 2010 (remember Nintendo has previously said the system will be out in all major regions before March 31st, 2011). What sayeth you, dear reader? Am I being unrealistic expecting a sub-$200 price point?

In the picture you see Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Chris Hemworth as Thor and Tom Hiddleston as Loki. Some of the film takes part in Asgard (where the Norse gods live) and some of it in a town in New Mexico, as you might have seen in Ironman 2. All we know so far is that Thor banished from Asgard by his father, Odin. Kenneth Branagh is directing the movie, which is dure May 6, 2011.

Joe Johnston (who directed Jurassic Park 3 and The Wolfman) will direct “Captain America: The First Avenger”. He isn’t a big fan of 3D. I’ll let these quotes fom the LA Times explain.

“I think it tends to be overused and can be a little bit gimmicky,” said Johnston, who began shooting last week in London but will travel to San Diego for Marvel’s Comic-Con panel. “A lot of people are using 3-D now because they feel have they have to … that will come and go and the pictures that deserve to be in 3-D will continue to be. When it’s done bad, it can make you carsick.”

Johnston did a one-day test shooting with a 3-D rig — as opposed to shooting in 3-D and converting — and said it was “a nightmare” due to bulky gear, calibration issues and restricted filmmaking options. He said he’s a firm believer, though, in the conversion approach if done right and he’s enthused to move forward. “It’s a new challenge and it’s exciting,” Johnston said.

The last film that I’m looking very much forward to is “The Avenger” which probably will be directed by Joss Whedon (Firefly, Dollhouse and Buffy), where most of the superheroes from Marvel’s universe will meet using the original cast ie. Robert Downey Jr. as Ironman, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Edward Norton as Hulk. (Perhaps Adrien Brody or Joaquin Phoenix will play instead.) The movie is due in 2012.

The upcoming ComicCon will surely reveal a lot more details and perhaps a trailer?

The Nintendo 3DS was first unveiled at the E3 expo in June, but there’s a few months yet before it actually launches.

With this in mind, could the system we saw at E3 undergo any cosmetic changes? In a word: no. Nintendo – perhaps encouraged by the rapturous reception given to the new console by gamers and the press – seems happy with its creation. As they should be, in my opinion. I haven’t personally handled a 3DS yet, but it certainly looks gorgeous, and not many of Nintendo’s handhelds have felt cheap.

In a Wired interview, project designer Hideki Konno promises that “you can take this [E3 design] as the final shape.” In other words, the console you see above will be the one you’ll be queuing up for later this year in a desperate bid to keep your kid happy this Christmas.

It wouldn’t be unlike Nintendo to change a design of one of its handhelds late in the day. Who can forget the very first time the company revealed the original Nintendo DS, back at E3 2004? The model on the left was what we were getting, until Nintendo saw sense and gave it a facelift (right), helped no doubt by negative reactions from gamers:

Nintendo 3DS design confirmed as final is a post from: The Inquisitr

Well, the 3D ones at least. As stereoscopic 3D gaming has become a reality on the PlayStation 3 these last few weeks, Sony is covering its back and warning players that such games can be detrimental to their health. Sorry for that rather mischievous and misleading title – I couldn’t resist.

Sony Online’s Terms of Service has now been tweaked to warn users that 3D games can result in “discomfort (such as eye strain, eye fatigue or nausea).” The revised document also advises parents that 3D games can be risky where children under the age of six are concerned, due to their ickle, developing eyes. It’s recommended that a doctor is consulted before the chil’n are let loose on WipEout HD.

Odd that Sony has waited so long to add this disclaimer, but here’s the new Terms of Service in full. You’ve been warned, so don’t blame Sony if you vomit your eyes clean out, or whatever this says:

“Some people may experience discomfort (such as eye strain, eye fatigue or nausea) while watching 3D video images or playing stereoscopic 3D games on 3D televisions. If you experience such discomfort, you should immediately discontinue use of your television until the discomfort subsides.

“SCEA recommends that all viewers take regular breaks while watching 3D video or playing stereoscopic 3D games. The length and frequency of necessary breaks may vary from person to person. Please take breaks that are long enough to allow any feelings of discomfort to subside. If symptoms persist, consult a doctor.

“The vision of young children (especially those under six years old) is still under development. SCEA recommends that you consult your doctor (such as a pediatrician or eye doctor) before allowing young children to watch 3D video images or play stereoscopic 3D games. Adults should supervise young children to ensure they follow the recommendations listed above.”

So it turns out the Nintendo 3DS is built from even more awesome than I originally suspected. As well as glasses-free 3D game visuals, the new handheld could theoretically offer full 3D video chat, according to a Forbes interview with Nintendo big boss Satoru Iwata. Hey, I’m IN YOUR ROOM AND – oh Jesus, there’s a time and place for that kind of thing.

“Technologically speaking, a variety of different things are possible with the 3DS, for example, 3D video chat.”

I love the way Iwata nonchalantly drops it in there, then doesn’t even bother mentioning it again in the interview. But is this really possible? The Nintendo 3DS we saw at E3 had three cameras: two on the outer casing, and one looking in at the player. If I’m not mistaken, you’d need two cameras facing the player to achieve this effect, so maybe the 3DS hardware is still being revised.

It’s all speculation for now, but hell, this got me all excited for the 3DS again for about the 18th time this month.
