If you have $1,700 laying around and you don’t mind shooting in 1080i (yes i, not p) HD, you might want to consider throwing down some cash on the JVC GZ-TD1, the first fully capable HD camcorder to offer on the go 3D recording.

The camera comes with 64GB flash storage built-in and supports an SDXC card slot for added memory.

Using two 3.3 megapixel CMOS sensors the camera creates a stereoscopic effect for 3D and is also capable of creating side-by-side 3D and even 2D footage if you would prefer.

One issue with the camcorders HD capabilities is that it films in MVC format which only a few devices currently support, however side-by-side mode and 2D can work on various devices, including blu-ray players.

Also included are dual 5X, f1.2 lenses which JVC says will provide sharp and bright images.

The camera was shown off at CES and it worked well as a standard 3D camera, while the 3D shooting took a bit of finessing (you’ll get better results once you figure out the best way to shoot for 3D results).

Perhaps once the camcorder hits a more reasonable price range I’ll think about picking one up, of course I would then also have to run out and purchase a 3D television and I’m not quite ready to make the jump to such crappy technology at this time.

We totally understand that children love their pop-up books, but is it really necessary for our e-Books to go the way of Hollywood movies? According to Gizmodo that’s the plan and it could be arriving sooner rather than later.

3D e-Books will work much in the same fashion as 3D movies, by requiring special glasses. At this point South Korean scientists have developed books that require users to tilt the books in order to operate properly, which is rather quite annoying.

Kim Sang-cheol of South Korea’s Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology says that “it will take a while to market this technology to the general public.” If their technology doesn’t end up on e-Books it could still find use in medical equipment and on various Smartphone and Tablet devices.
At CES 2010 Sony debuted a whole bunch of 3D television technologies, but sadly 3D digital cameras, like the one developed by Fuju (3D W1) were missing from the companies portfolio. Now we’ve learned that plans are underway to bring a line of 3D friendly cameras to the masses.

Sony’s President of Personal Imaging and Sound, Masashi Imamura has announced that the company is currently testing technologies that will allow 3D to be brought to the forefront of the companies consumer base.

Current Sony already offers industrial based 3D cameras such as the HFC Comfort-3D and HDC-F950, but those devices are way out of the price range for most of us common folk.

No word yet on exactly when the tech may arrive in the hands of eager customers, but with plenty of talk surrounding the companies use of 3D Alphas, we’re hoping for sooner rather than later.
3D technology is still gaining momentum and thanks to Avatar and CES 2010 the tech is gaining some true believers, myself included after having just witnessed a Panasonic demonstration of the technology using a live video feed from a camera that actually showed 3D objects while filming myself and other CES attendees.

The goggles, which are required to watch the 3D display fit over my head comfortably, even though I wear glasses, while the 3D was just as good as the effects found in huge 3D blockbusters.

Panasonic also showed off their 3D zooming technology which featured fast and slow zooms, although quick zooming is still a bit distorted at this time.

Here’s a shot from one of the 3D live feeds:

Definitely more 3D to come giving how well received this tech has become at this years show.

Previously only customers in Japan could get their hands on the unit which features 3X optical zoom, alongside 10MP capabilities and no need to wear special glasses to view the stereoscopic images.
There seems to be plenty of 3D products popping up on the map lately. Yesterday I reported on the Fujifilm Finepix 3D Digital Camera and today the V-Screen has been announced, a new 3D enabling device for use with the PSP gaming system from Sony.

While RealView Innovations Limited, the makers of V-Screen, are refusing to announce the exact specs and technologies used for their new technology, they were more than willing to leak a photo of the unit to Ars Technica and it looks pretty well streamlined for portable use.

What we do know about the technology is readily available from the companies own press release from Optical Engineer Aemonn Ansbro:

“The innovation uses special optical components in unconventional ways…No software, electronics or headgear is required. Nonetheless, the optical results are astonishing…The video game industry is a perfect fit for our technology.
