For the last six months Tweetdeck and 12seconds have been working together supporting each others efforts which enabled Tweetdeck to view 12seconds created video messages directly from Tweetdeck. Luckily enough I was able to play with an early test release late last night of the version that will be available today that now lets you record 12seconds video right from Tweetdeck itself.

Besides being a natural evolution for Tweetdeck this is a big gain for 12second users. As well 12seconds is in the process of updating the functionality of their API so that any third party developer will be able to create recording functionality for 12seconds video accounts. Developers will be able to request a key from 12seconds to gain access to the API which they will be opening up over the next two week.

By the look of the Tweetdeck site they haven’t updated with the new version information yet so keep checking back and keep those webcams warmed up.

Short video service 12seconds has launched a video slideshow iPhone app that allows users to take 3 photos and record twelve seconds of audio, but not take video.

The photos and audio make a slideshow which outputs as a twelve second video a users 12seconds account.

12seconds David Speiser says that “this is still not a perfect video solution – Apple refuses to let people record video with an iPhone. But 12seconds has created the best possible workaround with their video slideshow app. I found that in some ways there’s and advantage over real video, because you can re-think and re-word your audio to fit the images you’re sharing. Let me know what you think, and if you need more information to fill in the gaps.”

Nice spin, although he is right, it’s not their fault.

Talk Like a Pirate Day started in 1995 and sees devotees talk like Pirates on September 19 each year. The day was relatively unknown until gaining media coverage in 2002, and has grown on the back of social networking site users who like nothing more than sharing fun memes.

Anyone visiting 12seconds on Friday will be able to record a Pirate message from the front page, even if they’re not registered. Anyone who participates will be invited to join 12seconds, and will receive a special “pirate skull & crossbones award.” The exercise from 12seconds is to share in the fun, and partly to load test their setup as well. 12seconds is in invite only alpha and will revert to closed registration after Friday, so if you haven’t got an invite yet, this is a great opportunity to get in.
