Adam Busby probably isn't gay.

Is ‘OutDaughtered’ Star Adam Busby Gay? The Rumor Mill Thinks So, But What’s The Real Scoop? [Opinion]

Is OutDaughtered star Adam Busby gay? That’s the question fans of the popular TV show are asking now that the rumor mill has gotten things rolling, In Touch Weekly is reporting.

The rumors that Adam is gay got started, as things like this are often wont to do, in the comments section. Specifically, on TLC’s comments section, where one fan made the following astute observation.

“I’m from the South, but I also think the dad is gay. That’s not typical heterosexual Southern. That’s gay.”

There’s so much to unpack here, it’s hard to know where to start. But we’ll give it The Old College Try.

So, being a doting and loving father to six daughters makes you simultaneously gay and not Southern? That’s simultaneously offensive and utterly ridiculous, particularly to all of the Southern dads who are good at being dads. To say nothing of all of the good, Southern dads who are also gay. Or the Southerners who are gay, because being Southern doesn’t preclude you from being gay.

Comments sections aren’t known for their intelligent discourse, but let’s be real: to say that a man who is a good father is neither Southern nor straight is setting a new standard for dumb.

Anniversary weekend with the love of my life. So lucky for this lady to take adventures with me. #busbyversary #11years #shestillmakesmyheartskipabeat #outdaughtered

Another commenter seems to think he just “seems” gay, but can’t nail down why, exactly, that is.

“I do think Adam seems gay. I can’t pinpoint exactly what it is about him, but he just doesn’t seem all that into her. He is great with the kids, so [he] probably always wanted to be a dad and got married very young so he could have that ‘normal’ life.”

Adam is famously suffering from post partum depression, so if he’s not “into” his wife, it could be that, you know, he has other things on his mind. Or it could be that the TLC producers edit the show in such a way that leads to ambiguity (at least, in the minds of some viewers).

Down time! The view here is amazing, but who cares when I get to look at her all day.???????????? #busbyversary #outdaughtered

Also, the notion that “he’s not into her” is patently false: Adam’s social media accounts are filled with him making gushing statements about his wife being the love of his life and all that.

Of course, there’s the possibility that Adam’s marriage (to a woman) and having children with her is all an act to hide his closeted homosexuality; his wouldn’t be the first such marriage. But, if that’s the case, it’s between him and his wife, and not the community of commenters on the internet. But let’s be real here. Occam’s Razor teaches us that the simpler of two explanations is usually the right one. That means that Adam, who is married to a woman and who gushes about how much he loves her, is not gay.
