Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg wants the Boston Celtics to make a trade on the day of the NBA draft. Wahlberg is pleading with the Celtics to make a move for Chicago Bulls star Jimmy Butler.
According to TMZ, Mark Wahlberg wants the Boston Celtics to offer the Chicago Bulls the No. 1 overall pick for Jimmy Butler. It is the second year in a row that the Boston native has asked the Celtics to make a move on the Bulls star.
There seems to be some reluctance on the Celtics part to give up what could potentially be a star player later on down the road. The Celtics are still figuring out what type of team they want to be. That is one of the reasons why the Celtics have held on to the multitude of draft picks they have received from trades.
Do the Boston Celtics see themselves as a team on the rise or a true title contender? Taking Mark Wahlberg’s request to heart would prove that the Celtics want to be contenders. The Celtics will be considered just an up-and-coming team if they stay with their current model. That would leave guard Isaiah Thomas as the only true star on the team. And it could be a team that is surpassed by the Washington Wizards or Milwaukee Bucks.

The Boston Celtics have to be careful. If they hold on to their draft picks too long and not capitalize, the Celtics could be forced to select draft and stash players primarily.
As for Mark Wahlberg’s request of a trade for Jimmy Butler, the Celtics must weigh the pros and cons of such a move.
Is Jimmy Butler better than who the Boston Celtics can take with the first overall pick? Also, would the Chicago Bulls agree to a Jimmy Butler trade?
Based off potential alone, the possible top player Markelle Fultz can become a much greater scorer than the Bulls star. The Celtics would get a top 10 player immediately if a trade would happen. Meanwhile, it may take four or five years for Fultz to become anything near the player Butler is. Can the Celtics afford to wait that long, with a roster that would be considered an aging one at that time?

It remains to be seen what the Boston Celtics are going to do. According to ESPN, the Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers are discussing a trade for the No. 1 pick. In the possible deal, the 76ers would send the No. 3 pick, along with a player or additional draft picks to the Celtics.
A scenario could be created where it winds up a three-way trade. The Bulls have had their eyes on 76ers’ center Jahlil Okafor for quite some time. The Celtics could get Jimmy Butler, the 76ers would get the No. 1 overall pick, and the Bulls would get the third pick, a future pick, forward Jae Crowder and Okafor. In this case every team would be satisfied. That is if only the Boston Celtics decide to finally cash in on the assets they have acquired.
Mark Wahlberg may get his wish. He may see the Boston Celtics trade the No. 1 pick. Will it be for the Chicago Bulls’ Jimmy Butler or for something else?
