Even though the ratings were up for Monday Night Raw this week, WWE has watched the show stay under 3 million viewers for the last six episodes, and one thing can save them. There are many different methods that WWE has already tried, and they’ve thrown a number of new things at the fans, but nothing is really working. Taking Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, and Roman Reigns to reunite them as The Shield could definitely be best for business.
It is no secret that ratings for Monday Night Raw have been plummeting since WrestleMania 33. As reported by Wrestling Inc., this week’s episode saw a jump in viewers and the highest average in more than a month, but WWE is still under 3 million for its flagship show.
WWE is trying some new things, and having Samoa Joe vs. Brock Lesnar at Great Balls of Fire is a step in the right direction, but they need more. After Extreme Rules on Sunday, there are a number of superstars without any direction, and three of them are the former members of The Shield.
Seth Rollins lost to Samoa Joe in the main event of Raw. Roman Reigns was in the opening match, and he defeated Bray Wyatt in a throwaway match. Dean Ambrose is still going after The Miz and the Intercontinental Title, but that feud has truly run its course and is almost over.
So, why not reunite The Shield?
At the beginning of April, the Superstar Shake-Up moved Ambrose back to Raw and had all three members of The Shield back on the same show again. Since then, Ambrose has continued his feud with The Miz while Rollins and Reigns battled things out in the main event scene with a few other big names.
When Samoa Joe earned the No. 1 contender spot at Extreme Rules, his feud with Lesnar began, and it will run at least into the middle of July. That means Reigns and Rollins aren’t fighting for anything at the moment and don’t really have a program.
At times, Rollins and Reigns have even teamed up together on WWE television and at house shows for tag team matches. The brotherhood is still there, but they need the third member to make the reunion complete, and he doesn’t have much else going on.
As recapped by the official website of WWE, Ambrose has been tangling with “The Drifter” Elias Samson, but it seems to be a quick thing. Reigns and Rollins have nothing to really do, and it just makes complete sense for The Shield to come back together.
Making things even better is that WWE has been setting up for their return on Monday Night Raw for weeks now.
Everyone knows that The Shield was a group of hired guns used to solve a problem, which is why they were referred to as the “Hounds of Justice.” Over on Monday Night Raw, there have been a number of mysterious happenings taking place, and the expertise of Ambrose, Rollins, and Reigns is definitely needed.
Enzo Amore and Big Cass have taken turns being attacked by someone who mysteriously is never seen by anyone. No one can figure out who is behind the attacks, but there are signs pointing in a number of different directions.
Another case that could be handled by The Shield is figuring out who has been sending Corey Graves texts about Raw General Manager Kurt Angle. The information in the texts appears to have information that could “ruin” Angle, and that could allow him to hire The Shield to find out who is behind it all.
All of this makes sense, and it would help the ratings while pleasing the fans, even if the return of The Shield is just for a few months.
If the rumors hold out to be true, WWE still has big plans for Roman Reigns, as they want him to win the WWE Universal Championship from Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans. Those plans could still take place while reuniting The Shield on Monday Night Raw in the meantime and helping the ratings. Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, and Reigns are all currently without any direction, and a reunion of the “Hounds of Justice” would help everyone.
