‘SNL’ Finale Jokes Apart: Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Could Be Great As U.S. President – Here’s Why [Opinion]

After enjoying the best TRP in 20 years, Saturday Night Live had its finale. And, Dwayne Johnson chose arguably the most popular Saturday night TV show to declare he will run for president in 2020. The Rock also declared his running mate on the SNL finale. He is none other than Tom Hanks.

Although everything seems like a big joke, there is no denying the fact the people have started picturing The Rock as a U.S. president already. The country where a reality TV personality can become the president might also consider having a wrestler-turned-actor as their next commander-in-chief.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was talking to Alec Baldwin, the SNL version of Donald Trump. He said that a lot of people would like to see him run for president in 2020. While he considered it quite flattering that people wanted to see him as the U.S. president, he decided to put an end it all the speculations.

“Starting tonight, I am running for president of the United States.”

Johnson seems to have come prepared. He also declared his running mate. He chose Tom Hanks, “who is universally adored by every human alive.” The Baywatch star continued to talk about his presidential prospect, and this time he took a dig at Trump. He said he did not consider him qualified enough to run for president. However, in the present situation, he is “worried” that he may be “too qualified.”

According to Hanks, American needs a president like Johnson. He said that people would not agree on anything these day, but they would surely come to an agreement about two things.

“Pizza and us,” Johnson said.

Amid all the humor and an apparent attempt to make fun of Donald Trump’s leadership, there is no denying the fact that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is a great candidate for president. He has tremendous charisma and popularity. He knows different parts of the country pretty well, as he moved around it throughout his growing years because of his father’s job. And, here is one interesting fact about him.

While he has a Samoan descent from his mother’s side, he belongs to James Bowles’s family. Bowles was a free black man who fought with the British during the Revolutionary War, The Washington Post noted. Johnson eventually settled down in Florida, a state that has been known for having critical significance in presidential elections. The Rock is considered one of the most likeable celebrities in the country. No matter what he attempts, he will always start it with high favorable ratings.

Dwayne Johnson’s Political Affiliation

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is registered as a Republican. In the next presidential election, he may be the candidate the Republicans will be looking for. The GOP is desperate to bring non-white votes to its favor. Johnson is somebody who is loved by all.

Simply because he has maintained silence in most controversial issues so far, there is hardly anything that can be used against him. Of course, he is politically inexperienced. But, America has proved in 2016 that it does not value experience much when it comes to choosing its president. And, as far as politically inexperienced candidates are concerned, The Rock may be the best one the GOP has to offer in 2020.

Not everything that Johnson said on the SNL finale should be considered as jokes. The Rock made a lot of political statement behind the apparent mask of humor. He said that America would look for “more poise, and less noise” in their next president. This is something he earlier told Jimmy Fallon on his show. It will be unwise to think that Johnson is taking things lightly. He may be getting ready for the next big step.

“Americans deserve strong capable leaders, leaders who care about this country and care about its people.”

Not every “joke” on the SNL finale was a joke, it seems.
