Google Cashes In On Viral Videos
Google has a new way to make money off viral internet videos.
The company has created a new “buzz targeting” system that identifies high-traffic videos and ramps up its ads for them. It uses a combination of total view numbers and user ratings to find videos on the verge of going viral, then works with YouTube to place relevant ads on the bottom part of the screen. The two companies will share the revenue.
Google has already given the new system a go with Lions Gate. The company used the buzz targeting to advertise for its film The Forbidden Kingdom and says it was a success.
