Chris Bosh also put together an impressive performance on the night with 14 points and a season-high 16 boards to help Miami improve to a 21-7 record while the Atlanta Hawks, who are currently sitting in second place in the Eastern Conference’s Southeast Division, dropped to 18-10.

“You just have to give credit to the team effort on the defensive end,” Bosh said following his team’s victory. “Everybody did their job, put bodies on guys. We just went up in traffic, got it with two hands. Just fundamental basketball.”

As for Atlanta, who defeated Miami back on January 2nd (the Heat’s first loss of the 2012 season), the Hawks starters combined for just 40 points, as the reserves ended up with plenty of action.

Willie Green led the Hawks with 17 points off the bench, while newcomer Dampier got in six minutes of action and finished with four rebounds and no points. Aside from Green, Joe Johnson was the only Hawk to hit double figures in scoring, putting up 12 points – but grabbing zero rebounds.

“When things weren’t going very well, when we were missing shots and physically they got up in us,” Hawks coach Larry Drew said after the game. “They were clearly the aggressor and we did not respond. You could read our body language. When they made that run our body language was not very good. That is an area where we have to get better at. There is too much basketball to be played when they make a run.”

With their victory over the Hawks, the Miami Heat have now won 10 of their last twelve games and have a 3 game lead over Atlanta in the Southeast Division. They are four games ahead of the Orlando Magic (17-11).

Jason Whitlock of Fox Sports has gotten himself in hot water with a blatantly racist joke he made about New York Knicks phenom guard Jeremy Lin.

During Lin’s 38 point showing against the Los Angeles Lakers two nights ago Whitlock took advantage of the stereo type that Asian Men have smaller than average penis’,  tweeting,

“Some lucky lady in NYC is gonna feel a couple of inches of pain tonight.”

The Asian American Journalists Association immediately got online and demanded an apology from Whitlock for the joke which they considered in bad taste at best and racist at worst.

The AAJA posted to their Facebook page,

“[Whitlock's Tweet] doesn’t hold up to the conduct of responsible journalists, those in sports or otherwise, who adhere to standards of fairness, civility and good taste. Nor does it meet the standards of Fox Sports, with which you are associated. Outrage doesn’t begin to describe the reaction of the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) to your unnecessary and demeaning tweet

Whitlock sent out an apology to Jeremy Lin and to the country’s Asian population.

He wrote wrote on FoxSports.com,

“I’ve cried watching Tiger Woods win a major golf championship. Jeremy Lin, for now, is the Tiger Woods of the NBA. I suspect Lin makes Asian Americans feel the way I feel when I watch Tiger play golf. I should’ve realized that Friday night when I watched Lin torch the Lakers. For Asian Americans and a lot of sports fans, his nationally televised 38-point outburst was the equivalent of Tiger’s first victory in The Masters. I got caught up in the excitement. I tweeted about what a great story Lin is and how he could rival Tim Tebow. I then gave in to another part of my personality — my immature, sophomoric, comedic nature.”

Derrick Rose sat out of the Chicago Bulls loss to the Boston Celtics on Sunday after suffering from back spasm and the Bulls point guard now plans to visit with a back specialist in Chicago on Monday.

Rose admitted to suffering from back issues for the last several weeks:

“The first time I remember (the back problems) happening were in high school,” Rose revealed. “But college I didn’t have it. First couple of years (in the NBA) I didn’t have it. All of a sudden it just happened now. Hopefully, (Monday) I’ll meet with some people and try to figure something out.”

According to Rose his back was giving him issues since the Chicago Bulls started their nine-game road series on Jan. 29 in Miami.

“It was the whole trip,” Rose said. “I just played through it and the more I played through it, it tended to get worse after every game. At the time I was really worried about it, but (I’m) just trying to stay positive and hopefully I’ll be all right.”

Rose also revealed that he has had a lot of pain when trying to handle even small tasks including walking.

Speaking of his star players turn for the worse Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau revealed:

“You’re always concerned. It’s something that he’s had before. He had it when he was in high school. So we’re hopeful that it gets cleared up shortly, but we want to make sure … back are tricky, so that’s why he’s going to see a specialist (Monday).”

Also out of Sunday’s game was Rip Hamilton who was attending to a personal matter. Rip has missed all but 11 games this season because of injuries, his last game occurring on Jan. 29.

With 22 points and 7 assists per game Derrick Rose will be missed if an extended leave is required.

Buried deep on the bench a little more than a week ago (so deep, in fact, that he was often mistaken for a trainer when arriving at games), Lin was recently called up to start in the absence of marquee players Carmelo Anthony (groin injury) and Amare Stoudemire (bereavement leave).

In his first three games as a starter, Lin has propelled the Knicks to three straight victories with point totals of 25, 28 and 23 against the Nets, Jazz and Wizards.

And even though the humble 23-year-old faced a much bigger opponent in Kobe Bryant and the LA Lakers on Friday, “Linsanity” once again prevailed as the Harvard grad scored a career high 38 points and led the Knicks to their fourth straight win, tying their longest streak of the season.

“I didn’t try to see this game as any different,” Lin said following his amazing performance, which also included 7 assists and two steals. “I just try to make sure that when I get there on the floor, I play as hard as I can and try to do everything I can to help the team win.

“The only thing we established tonight is four in a row. Now we try to go for five tomorrow. I’m not too worried about proving anything to anybody. As a team we’re growing and trying to build on the momentum.”

Not everyone, however, was as nonchalant about Lin’s recent play.

“What he’s doing is amazing,” Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni said. “He answered a lot of questions tonight. Can he make an outside shot? Can he pull the trigger in a big moment? He hit two 3s that just broke the game open. There’s so much stuff that he’s doing.”

Kobe, who a day earlier said he knew nothing of Lin’s game, also had nothing but praise for Lin following the Knicks-Lakers matchup.

“I think it’s a great story,” Bryant said. “I think it’s a testament to perseverance and hard work. Good example for kids everywhere.”

No one is more surprised by the success of New York Knicks Point Guard Jeremy Lin than the man himself.  Lin is a second year starter coming out of Harvard University.

Lin’s contract has recently been picked up by the Knicks for the remainder of the season.  Even though he has played against statistically inferior teams, Lin has propelled the Knicks to three straight wins with point totals of  25, 28 and 23 against the Nets, Jazz and Wizards.

Lin was asked about his success in an interview recently and he said,

“I can’t sit here and say I knew this would happen or something like that. I think it’s something that I’ve been working towards, to try to kind of establish myself in the rotation, but to have this happen so fast has been miraculous and I’m just so thankful to God, my teammates, and this organization for giving me this opportunity. It’s been an unbelievable week.”

A lot of commentators are comparing Lin to none other than Tim Tebow.  Lin actually like the comparison because of his high level of respect for Tim Tebow.

He spoke about his admiration for the evangelical quarterback,

“Actually a lot of inspiration just because he’s such a polarizing figure, but I think the things he says in interviews, his approach to the game is just unbelievable and I respect him so much. I want to be able to do some of the things that he does in terms of the amount of charity work and the non-profit work, and the way he impacts people off the field. I think that is what is most inspiring to me about him.”

Billups, a five-time all-star, suffered the injury with 5:48 remaining in the fourth quarter of the Clippers’ overtime win on Monday over the Orlando Magic. After missing a 3-point shot, Billups was going for the offensive rebound when he crumpled to the floor in obvious pain.

As play went the other way, Billups assessed his injury and knew right away something was terribly wrong.

“When I first went down, it felt like someone kind of kicked me,” Billups said. “But when I tried to get back up and step on it, I didn’t feel anything and I knew it was something I had never felt before and I knew it was bad.”

Tests taken Tuesday at the Cleveland Clinic confirmed the Achilles tear, a serious injury requiring eight months of recovery time. Billups returned to Los Angeles on Wednesday. Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro said Billups will meet with a specialist before it’s decided when he’ll have surgery.

Despite the devastating injury, Billups, 35, assured fans he has no plans of hanging up his sneakers just yet.

“No, sir. My career is definitely not over,” Billups told reporters. “There is no way I’m going to crawl out of the league.I’m going to be back. Trust me.”

Prior to his injury, Chauncey Billups, whom the Clippers claimed off waivers in December, was averaging 14.9 points and 4.0 assists in 30.4 minutes per contest this season.

It’s no secret that Orlando Magic star Dwight Howard wants to leave the team after his contract expires at the end of this season but he could stay in place if Magic owner Richard Devos has anything to say about it.

The 85-year-old wheel-chair bound Devos made an unexpected visit to the teams dressing room on Wednesday where in no specific terms he said:

“I don’t want to trade him.”

He continued by revealing that talks with Dwight’s reps have been progressing:

“We like to think we’re making headway. But I don’t know. He probably won’t know until the end and I won’t either.”

While his sentiments may be true he didn’t receive a warm reception from Howard who virtually ignored the owner’s presence in the locker room while players Jason Richardson and Daniel Orton both headed over to greet their boss when he entered the room.

When asked if he would be willing to give a percentage to the chance that Howard will stay with the Magic he said ”I don’t gamble on that, I just plan on him staying.”

In the meantime it’s the owners younger son Richard Devos Jr. who is in charge of negotiations with Howard and he says of current talks:

“You never give up. We’ve got a great talent, a great young man. He’s got to look at his options (and) what’s best for him and I have to tell him what I think is best for him. I’m selfish.”

At just 26-years-old Howard still has a good amount of basketball ahead of him and with an average of 20.9 points per game with 15.1 rebounds it would be a shame for the Orlando Magic to lose him.

Analysts and fans alike have engaged in the great debate of whether or not Kobe Bryant or LeBron James is the better player, but none of us are quite as qualified to weigh in as Larry Bird, one of the greatest basketball players of all time.

In a recent interview with ESPN, Bird was asked which player he would prefer to be on a team with, Kobe or LeBron–and Bird provided a surprisingly honest and detailed answer. Here’s what he had to say:

“Well, probably Kobe, because of the fact that … well, of course he wouldn’t have been shooting as much as he does now … but his desire to win, his dedication, to always get better, uh, and he’s just, he’s just tough. He’s just a tough cat.

“But, if you want to have fun, like I did with Bill Walton, play with LeBron. It would have probably been more fun to play with LeBron, but if you want to win and win and win, it’s Kobe. Not that LeBron’s not a winner, just that (Bryant’s) mindset is to go into every practice, every game, to get better.”

So, there you have it. If you want to win, you go with Kobe. If you want to have fun and, well, maybe win, you go with LeBron.

Mamadou Ndiaye is the tallest high school basketball player in the world.  At 7’5 he is making quite an impression.

Originally from Senegal.  Mamadou Ndiaye can slam dunk while barely jumping, he can shoot from mid court and block any incoming shot. Some are saying having him play in the High School league is not fair to the other students.

The  Brethren Christian High School in California is the team that he is playing for and when you watch the footage below you will see how unfair it is to even let him play.

The Brethren’s main strategy just seems to be get the ball to Ndiaye and let him score.  He is basically playing against all opposing teams.

The Chinese food loving Senegalese student is on the fast track to the NBA and it will be interesting to see what happens when he gets there.

Coming in to the contest, Pierce just needed nine points to tie Bird’s total of 21,791. He had seven points at halftime, then hit a three-pointer with 10:23 left in the third quarter to pass Bird.

“It was a relief. So much was hanging over me the last couple of days. Just hearing about it and knowing that you’ve got a game to play,” Pierce said of his achievement in a post-game interview. “Just to be mentioned with him, with this organization, is a great honor.”

Pierce, who finished the game with 15 points, nearly had a triple-double to celebrate his milestone, collecting nine assists and eight rebounds as Bost increased its winning streak to five straight.

Rajon Rondo added 14 assists and 10 points, Kevin Garnett scored 22 and Ray Allen finished with 17 points on a night that clearly belonged to the team captain known as “The Truth” — which Mickeal Pietrus had written in big letters on a towel he waved for Pierce.

“I thought they tried so hard in the first half. I thought it was never going to happen,” Boston coach Doc Rivers said. “I mean, it was unbelievable how our guys were passing out shots. They were doing everything to try to get this thing.”

Despite the incredible milestone of becoming No.2, Pierce still has a ways to go to become the Celtics all-time leading scorer. John Havlicek holds that mark with 26,395 points.

When asked his thoughts on catching Havilcek, Pierce revealed he had more pressing issues on his mind.

“I think the fans would really appreciate another championship more than me passing Hondo,” Pierce said.

Lin’s performance over the last two games has given Coach Mike D’Antoni some hope for his struggling Knicks. Coach Mike D’Antoni said:

“Jeremy kind of settles everything and we can build on that. He gives us a semblance of a team that can move the ball and get shots… You can actually draw a play up and (think) ‘this might work.’”

Lin started his NBA career by scoring 32 points in his first 9 games. In the last two games, Lin has scored 53 combined points.

Here are some highlights from Lin’s game against the Jazz.

The Knicks victory against the Jazz came as a surprise as they had to play without star Amare Stoudemire. (Stoudemire’s brother was killed in a car crash earlier this week.) Carmelo Anthony also only saw a few minutes because he sprained his groin early in the game.

But Lin was able to keep the Knicks ahead of the Jazz through four quarters. The former Harvard guard had 28 points for the night and 8 assists.

In making the announcement, NBA executive vice-president Stu Jackson said the incident had been upgraded by the league office to a flagrant foul two.

The incident occurred with 8:34 to play in the third quarter of Minnesota’s 100-91 victory over Houston in Minneapolis.

Scola and Love had tangled first on the Timberwolves’ offensive end, wrangling for a rebound. The tussle between the two physical players continued in the Rockets’ end, with Scola posting up Love.

Scola first had the ball swiped by a hard whack from Love, then tumbled to the floor. Love stomped on Scola, in the throat/upper shoulder area, before heading back up the floor. No foul was called on the play, with Love credited for a steal.

At the other end, the Rockets bench was called for a technical foul, and the contest became increasingly physical from that point onwards.

On Saturday, Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman said he was pleased his players didn’t back down from a physical challenge.

“You have to be mentally tough to play through anything,” Adelman said.

Love said via Twitter on Monday, however, that he had gone too far.

“I want to publicly apologise to Luis Scola and the Houston Rockets,” he said. “My intention is to never hurt another player on the basketball court. … I’ve always had the utmost respect for the game of basketball and all of my opponents.”

Due to the suspension, Love – who is averaging 25.0 points and 13.7 rebounds per contest this season – will miss Tuesday’s home game against the Sacramento Kings and Wednesday’s game at the Memphis Grizzlies.

According to the report by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), Hazell Stoudemire, 35, was killed when his 2007 Cadillac Escalade collided with the rear of a tractor trailer on Highway 27 in Lake Wales,FL.

The report added that Hazell was driving at a high rate of speed and was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Stoudemire, a resident of Lakeland, Fla., was declared dead at the scene of the accident. The other driver was unharmed. The highway patrol is continuing its investigation, and awaiting test results to determine whether alcohol was a factor.

Knicks head coach Mike D’Antoni said that Amare Stoudemire is traveling to Florida to be with his family and will not be with the team for tonight’s game against the Jazz in New York.

“I know he’s very close to his brother so my heart’s out for him,” D’Antoni said after the team’s shootaround on Monday, adding, “He cherishes his family, he does a great job of maintaining all the relationships. Like I said, this is just a trying moment for him.”

The Knicks offered no date for when Amar’e Stoudemire would rejoin the team. After facing the Jazz on Monday, the team travels to Washington on Wednesday.

Mark Cuban isn’t happy with the officiating in the NBA this year and for the good of competition he’s saying something about it. Cuban lashed out at officials today saying that the reffing in the NBA in 2012 has been “off the charts bad.”

The LA Times reports that Cuban has been upset about the officiating all year. On ESPNDallas.com, Cuban singled out the ejection of Mavericks Coach Rick Carlisle and a series of no calls during the final minutes of the Mavs – Thunder game.

“These were officials that have been part of the league for years, and it was just off-the-charts bad. And, if no one ever says anything, nothing ever happens…”

Cuban said that the officials are going through the same fatigue as the players due to the jam-packed season but that the bad officiating is having on impact on games.

Cuban added:

“Some of these guys are having really bad nights, and it’s having an impact. The league’s got to come out and say, ‘OK, look, we understand they’re going through some tough travel or whatever. It’s just the way it is.’ Otherwise, if that’s not an impact, you have to wonder how some of these crews are still on the court.”

Cuban has been fined $75,000 for his comments.

Syracuse basketball coach Bernie Fine isn’t the only one being accused of improper conduct. While he was busy sexually abusing ball boys at the university his wife Laurie Fine was allegedly canoodling with some of the teams players.

News of Laurie’s involvement in the case arrived on Monday when one of Fine’s accusers stated in a sworn affidavit in their slander lawsuit against coach Jim Boeheim:

“For years, Bernie Fine’s wife, Laurie Fine, had sexual relationships with basketball team players,”

That statement was made by former ball boy and current accuser Bobby David. He also says that another coach’s wife was also heard talking to Laurie about having oral sex with the players while comparing “specific size and physical attributes of their private parts.”

That lawsuit claims that Boeheim possibly new about Fines’ interactions and Laurie’s “closeness” to players which should have given more cause for concern regarding Bernie’s involvement in the sex scandal.

Davis claims that Laurie Fine’s relationships with players wasn’t exactly hidden and was instead “common knowledge” among players and a constant  ”source of jokes.”

In fact the court document says  Davis spke directly to Bernie Fine about his wife’s exploits and Fine “didn’t react in the slightest” which gives reason to believe that Fine knew of his wife’s actions.

In the meantime Fine’s attorney called the accusations nothing more than “20-year-old hearsay” while adding, “This is both desperate and disgusting.”

With 8:52 remaining in the third quarter, Griffin, winner of last year’s NBA dunk contest, took a feed from point guard Chris Paul, elevated over the Thunder’s Kendrick Perkins, and threw down a nasty, rim-rattling one-handed jam.

Blake’s aerial display immediately sent the Staples Center crowd and the Twitter world into a frenzy, with other professional atheletes tweeting praises of Griffin’s highlight.

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald wrote:

“Blake Griffin just made one of the top dunks of the season. Maybe even his career. (hashtag) Beast.”

Tracy McGrady of the Atlanta Hawks weighed in with:

“yo, crazy crazy dunk by the dude Blake Griffin.”

In fact, the dunk was so emphatic, so dirty and so unheard of that LeBron James referred to it as the Dunk of the Year, acknowledging that Griffin’s jam topped an amazing thrown-down that James had accomplished just a day earlier.

“Dunk of the Year!! @blakegriffin just dunked on Kendrick Perkins so hard!! Wow!! I guess I’m #2 now. Move over #6,” James tweeted.

As for Kendrick Perkins, who was all over YouTube and twitter as the latest victim to be posterized by a Griffin slam, the OKC Thunder center handled the negative attention like a champ.

“It happens,” Perkins said. “A the end of the day if you’re a shot blocker, you’re going to get dunked on. It was a great play that he made. Obviously I wish I wasn’t in it, but it was a great play that he made.”

Griffin ended the game with 22 points and 7 boards as the Clippers cruised to a 112-100 victory and in the process snapped the Thunder’s four-game winning streak.

Allen Iverson has had is bank accounts seized and a garnishment of pay ordered against the NBA superstar.  Iverson was sued by Aydin and Company Jewelers for $350,000 dollars in jewelry that Iverson bought.  After a two year court battle Iverson was ordered to pay $859, 896.46 for the jewelry bill, court costs, interest and attorney fees.

Iverson was not in court to hear the verdict and made no real effort to fight the jewelers in court.

Iverson, who is currently out of the NBA, spent 14 seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons and Memphis Grizzlies. He averaged 26.7 points, 6.2 assists and 3.7 rebounds for his career, most of which was spent in Philadelphia. Iverson made over $154 million in his time in the NBA, earning $20 million in 2008-2009 alone.

During the 2000–01 season, Iverson helped the 76ers to win the first ten games of the season and was named starter at the 2001 NBA All-Star Game. that year he won the NBA All Star Game MVP.  The 76ers also posted a 56–26 record, the best in the Eastern Conference that season. He also averaged a then-career high 31.1 points, winning his second NBA scoring title in the process. Iverson won the NBA steals title at 2.5 a game. Iverson was named NBA Most Valuable Player; at 6 feet and 165 pounds, he became the shortest and lightest player to win the MVP award.

Just one month ago when asked if he would like to play for the Chicago Bulls Dwight Howard refused to say one way or another, it’s amazing what 30 days will do to a man. Howard this week has said he wouldn’t mind a Derrick Rose, Dwight Howard pairing.

The Orlando Magic player told the Chicago Tribune:

“If I could play with Derrick right now and God wanted that to happen, it will happen. It has nothing to do with me not wanting to play with Derrick Rose. I love him. That’s my brother.”

Rumors circulated earlier in the month that sponsor Adidas who reps both Howard and Rose wouldn’t want two of their stars playing in the same market, to that Howard told the Tribune:

“It has nothing to do with adidas. In fact, adidas would love that because me and Derrick have the same guy.”

Speaking about the possibility that he could be playing with Howard Rose said on Monday:

“Me and Dwight definitely have a relationship, especially because of adidas. Our market and the city speaks for itself if someone was interested to come to the Chicago Bulls. Dwight, he’s a great player. Who wouldn’t want to play with him? But you never know what’s going to happen.”

Howard would bring his 20.2 points per game average to the Bulls with a complimenting 15.5 rebounds per game.

At this time there is no indication from the Chicago Bulls front office that they are persuing Dwight Howard.

Lebron James and the Miami Heat defeated Derick Rose and the Chicago Bulls today 97-93. The game came down to the final minutes but the highlight came during the first quarter.

Lebron James jumped over John Lucas during the first quarter to catch an alley-oop from Dwyane Wade. When asked about the dunk after the game, James said:

“It was just a great pass from Wade.”

The Bulls played today’s game without Loul Deng but were able to hang with the Heat until the final minutes.

The Bulls didn’t lead today’s game once. Rose had a chance to give the Bulls a lead in the final minute but the Chicago star missed two free throws. On the other end, James missed two of his own and gave the Bulls one final chance to win. But D-Rose and the Bulls couldn’t convert and gave the Heat the victory.

Rose scored 34 points today and became the first player this season to score more than 30 against the Heat.

The Bulls, who lost to the Heat during a five-game series last year in the East Coast finals, will get three more chances to take on Lebron James, Dwayne Wayde, and the Miami Heat. The two east coast leaders will meet again on March 14th in Chicago.

Towson University men’s basketball defeated UNC Wilmington 66-61 on Saturday ending the longest losing streak in Division I college basketball history after falling in 41 straight matches.

The losing streak at the university had become so bad that forward Marcus Damas told Yahoo Sports he was avoiding public outreach:

“I’d get a call every day asking when we would get a win,” Damas said Saturday. “A call, or a text, an email, a post on facebook, a mention on Twitter. Every day.”

After the win however his voicemails, text messages and social outreach were all positive as students and faculty at the school were happy to have their teams first win in 395 days.

While defeating a team that’s just 8-13 probably wouldn’t be reason for celebration in most cases fans and players celebrated on the court and in the locker room as if they had just won the NCAA tournament after the team failed to win a single game during the 2011 calendar year.

In the meantime Towson University men’s basketball still has a long way to go, they haven’t had a winning season in 15 years and 28 of their 41 losses were by 10 points or more.

A win is a win regardless of how long it takes to earn, it’s just nice to know that the students, faculty and most importantly the players at Towson University have not just given up on their program but have chosen to embrace the wins as they arrive, even when there almost 400 days apart.
