Warner Bros. used the religious themes found in Man of Steel to market the superhero flick to churches ahead of its release in theaters.

In order to reach as many organizations as possible, the studio reportedly hired the services of Grace Hill Media. The company sent out nine pages of sermon notes to churches as well as arranged free screenings for pastors.

According to UPI, Baltimore pastor Quentin Scott said he was initially skeptical of Warner Bros. and the marketing campaign for Man of Steel. However, all of that changed when Scott decided to take in a screening of Zack Snyder’s superhero flick.

“When I sat and listened to the movie I actually saw it was the story of Christ, and the love of God was weaved into the story. If you give me another opportunity to talk to someone about Jesus Christ, and I can do that because of your movie, that’s a win for me, because it is about spreading the Gospel,” the pastor explained.

CNN reports the sermon notes provided by Grace Hill Media also outlined the connections between the story of Jesus and the adventures of Superman. Pepperdine University professor Craig Detweiler, the man responsible for penning the notes, said he hopes Christians will embrace certain aspects of pop culture instead of immediately dismissing them.

“All too often, religious communities have been defined by what they’re against. With a movie like `Man of Steel,’ this is a chance to celebrate a movie that affirms faith, sacrifice and service,” Detweiler explained.

When you break down the Man of Steel story to its essence, it’s easy to see the similarities. A man arrives on earth from the heavens with abilities he doesn’t fully understand. After being raised by a foster family, he sacrifices himself at the age of 33 for the sake of mankind. Some of the imagery in the movie could also be labeled as religious in nature.

Of course, not everyone is impressed with Hollywood’s effort to market the Superman movie to churches. Since the sermon notes suggest screening the Man of Steel trailer for congregations, many feel executives at Warner Bros. are simply using churches to line their own pockets.

“As [pastors] entertain their congregants with material pumped out from Hollywood’s sewers, lives are kept in bondage, and people’s souls are neglected,” Dublin Baptist Church deacon P.J. Wenzel said.

If you haven’t seen the Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg-directed comedy This Is The End, then you may want to stop here because we’re about to divulge some major spoilers.

This Is The End has been receiving positive reviews across the board from fans of the Apatow clan and from critics as well. Most of the reviews have been highlighting the surprise cameos that take place in the star-studded meta-comedy. One of the most surprising cameos is done by the Backstreet Boys themselves.

So whose idea was it to have Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel meet the Backstreet Boys in heaven and participate in what’s probably the funniest song and dance routine? It was one of the creator’s wives. While it wasn’t specified whose wife it was (it comes down to Seth’s wife comedy writer Lauren Miller, and Evan Goldberg’s wife), it still made for a hilarious ending.

As hilarious as it might have been, it was never the original ending Seth and Evan envisioned. In fact, the original ending for This Is The End, looked to be a little more typical, and a little less fun than the rest of the film. Seth Rogen dropped by Vulture and explained just what that original ending was meant to be.

Rogen said of the original ending for This Is The End: “The whole joke was, he shows up, and he’s like, ‘I’m God.’ And they’re like, ‘You’re God?’ And Jay [Baruchel] goes, ‘Wait, so when we were in Million Dollar Baby together, were you God then? I don’t get it.’ And then God shows up and he’s like, ‘We’re just fucking with you. This is Morgan Freeman. We just play this joke on people when they come to heaven now. Do you guys want to get high and play some video games?”

While it would have gotten a few chuckles, it doesn’t seem like it would have gotten the biggest reaction from an unsuspecting audience. These days Morgan Freeman is practically the face of God in pop culture’s eyes. Movies Bruce Almighty and Evan Almighty have already given Freeman his cameo as God, and that gimmick would have looekd a bit tired for This Is The End.

The Logan’s Run remake is getting a little help from Bioshock creator Ken Levine.

Warner Bros. reportedly tapped the acclaimed video game designer since he has such a passion for the Logan’s Run story. Levin got his start as a screenwriter and playwrighht before working on such games as System Shock 2 and Thief for Looking Glass Studios.

As Deadline points out, the Logan’s Run remake has been in the works for quite some time. Although the project enjoyed a few false starts, these plans ultimately fell through. At one point during the film’s development, both Bryan Singer and Nicolas Winding Refn were attached to direct.

Fans of Bioshock shouldn’t worry too much about Ken Levine’s involvement with the long-delayed movie. According to Polygon, the Logan’s Run remake won’t take his attention away from his work on the Bioshock Infinite DLC.

Released in 1967, authors William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson’s Logan’s Run tells the story of a world where everyone is executed at the age of 21. When one of the men who tracks down fugitives finds himself on the hit list, he goes on the run to avoid being killed.

Director Michael Anderson’s released his adaptation of the novel back in 1976. The film starred Richard Jordan, Jenny Agutter, and Austin Powers alum Michael York as Logan 5. Instead of being executed at the age of 21, the movie had people biting the dust at 30.

Although the story itself is timeless, the 1976 version of Logan’s Run hasn’t aged very well in this writer’s opinion. The dated special effects and trippy visuals were indicative of the era, though they probably don’t play very well with modern audiences. If one project was ripe for a remake, it’s certainly this one.

It’s currently unknown when Warner Bros. hopes to have this project up and running. Given the delays the movie has experienced in the past, it’s probably best not to get your hopes up just yet.

With Warner Bros. getting ready to take over the DC comic world, word on the scene is that the Man of Steel sequel may not be coming as soon as some would like. Killing two birds with one stone writer of Man of Steel and the anticipated Justice League, David S. Goyer stopped by to talk with Empire to put some rumors to rest, and at the same time divulged a little bit about what the studio is thinking in terms of their franchise options.

During Goyer’s interview, he gave an insight to those who were already suspecting Zach Snyder’s Man of Steel was a reset for the DC universe. Goyer said Warner Bros. plan with Man of Steel: “would be the starting point for introducing other characters and ultimately, obviously Warner Brothers hopes there will be a ‘Justice League’ film and perhaps you might start seeing other characters appearing in each other’s films. I think in some ways they’re interested in going perhaps the opposite direction that Marvel has done which may be to do a group film and then spin off.”

For those who are familiar with the Marvel universe, this system would be an exact about face from their plan. In order to set themselves apart, it seems like Warner Bros wants to launch the Justice League film ahead of the other character-driven stories in the DC World. Marvel took a different (and very successful) approach by launching spin-off films, such as Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America, before teaming all of the characters up for the Avengers film. As some of you may know these spin-offs have all went into franchises, including the cumulative film Avengers, which is currently getting ready for Avengers 2.

While Warner Bros. is reaping all the benefits at the box office with Man of Steel, it’s difficult to predict how this approach will work in their favor. For Marvel, a huge amount of success in the Avengers film came because the audience, whether or not they were comic book fans, had a knowledge of the characters they were seeing beforehand due to the films that came before. For most of the movie-going audience, they will be going into the Justice League film completely blind with the exception of Batman, Superman, and Green Lantern.

If you haven’t seen Man Of Steel yet, you may want to stop reading right about here. Man of Steel is giving a lot of people to talk about past the obvious argument of whether or not it was good. While critics seem to be split on that, the film’s director Zack Snyder (Sucker Punch) was confident with his direction all the way through. So much that he decided to break a significant rule in the DC Comics world, and that is, Superman never kills.

This Man Of Steel has been described as not your mom and dad’s Superman, and the reason being is that he’s simply not the same Superman. He’s a good one, but he’s not a call back to any of the other versions. One significant moment that alludes to this is when Superman kills General Zod.

A few people weren’t on board with this ending, as it seems to be the go-to flaw that everyone points out in the script. One big player in the film’s production also didn’t agree with the ending, and that was Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight Trilogy). Nolan, who seems to really have the midas touch in the superhuman world did not initially agree with the Man of Steel killing General Zod. In a recent podcast Snyder admitted that he had to convince producer Nolan that this was the ending meant to be seen on screen.

Surprisingly it was a push by DC Comics that spurred on the vision to make it the big screen. Snyder and screenwriter David S. Goyer elaborated on the hard decision: “[Chris] originally said, ‘There’s no way you can do this. I came up with this idea of heat vision and these people about to die, and I wrote the scene, gave it to Chris, and he said, ‘Okay you’ve convinced me.’ ”

Although in the end Christopher Nolan came around, someone else from the Superman world didn’t see eye to eye with Snyder’s vision. Comics writer Mark Waid (Superman: Birthright) was absolutely enraged by the Man of Steel surprise. In his own review, Waid wrote:

“Some crazy guy in front of us was muttering ‘Don’t do it…don’t do it…DON’T DO IT…’ and then Superman snapped Zod’s neck and that guy stood up and said in a very loud voice, ‘THAT’S IT, YOU LOST ME, I’M OUT,’ and his girlfriend had to literally pull him back into his seat and keep him from walking out and that crazy guy was me.”

Ryan Reynolds has backed out of the remake of Highlander.

Highlander started as a classic when Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery took starring roles as immortals who could only die when you removed their heads from their bodies. The film took on the idea that immortals were driven to eliminate the rest in a never ending quest to fulfill their destiny of being the only one left, gaining the knowledge of a god.

Hence the timeless catch phrase, “There can be only one.”

The second film was the first to contradict the idea the first film had laid down, by introducing Micheal Ironside as another immortal, only this time they were supposedly a race of aliens sent to Earth to fight for their superiority. Then came Mario Van Peebles, and the story grew more and more ridiculous and contradictory as even Christopher Lambert’s Connor MacLeod fell to a successor in a cheap attempt to tie in with the TV series.

It was inevitable in this era of reboots and remakes that Highlander would get a reboot and help new audiences forget the silliness that the previous Highlander films had resorted to. They tried to cast Ryan Reynolds of X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Green Lantern fame (or infamy) in the role as the new Connor MacLeod and even had him confirmed at one point.

However, Ryan Reynolds has backed out of the Highlander remake. Rumors have pointed to the departure of director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo as the reason for Ryan Reynolds doing likewise.

Ryan Reynolds may also have used the excuse that he’s extremely busy with new projects, among which are the comic book adaptation of R.I.P.D. and the Dreamworks animated feature Turbo, and he’s about to begin shooting Selfless for director Tarsem Singh. Of course, compared with such peers as Bruce Willis and Danny Trejo, Ryan Reynolds can’t really use that excuse. Both of the former had been in almost everything in 2011 and 2012.

Of course, the possibility that it might not happen shouldn’t deter Highlander remake hopefuls, as the original Iron Man almost didn’t happen either. You know how that turned out.

‘Highlander’: Ryan Reynolds Backs Out Of Remake is a post from: The Inquisitr

Celebrity crowdsurfing at Kickstarter has been the new hot topic to hit the internet. It’s been the controversy surrounding these campaigns that has sparked some discussion in the indie film community. Is it right that celebrities are asking fans for money when they’re handsomely rewarded for their acting films? Who is Kickstarter really representing, the artist, or the celebrity? Are they one in the same?

It’s hard to get your film funded no matter who you are these days, and if a big name is behind a project, that doesn’t mean at the end of the day people like Zach Braff get to keep their own artistic integrity after a studio has agreed to put the money upfront. That’s at least what James Franco is suggesting. Franco is just another celebrity asking the public to support a worthwhile project.

Franco is asking people on Indiegogo to support three short films based on his three short stories featured in his book Palo Alto. The shorts are important to him as most of the stories written in his book are about experiences he had or his friends have had while growing up in Palo Alto. The three films are said to be titled after the stories: “Yosemite,” “Killing Animals,” and “Memoria.”

There’s a few differences here: For one, Franco isn’t going to Kickstarter. He’s decided to take his campaign to Indiegogo, another site that helps filmmakers back their projects. The second is that Franco is only spearheading this project, and will not direct these films. Instead he has given the opportunity to post-grad film students from NYU. Nina Ljeti and Vladimir de Fontenay will direct “Memoria,” Bruce Thierry Craig till direct “Killing Animals,” and Gabrielle Demeestere will take on “Yosemite.” The third is that all proceeds will go to the charity Art of The Elysium, which focuses on bringing art to children in need.

It’s said that all three films will be scheduled to film in August in Palo Alto, presumably after Franco is done filming Good People with Kate Hudson, which is currently underway in London.

Those who want to fund Franco’s NYU grad films will be rewarded handsomely. Just $20 dollars gets a fan an audio recording by James, and $5,000 dollars gets a lucky fan in one of the films. Uping the ante, Franco will send an original painting for $7,000 dollars, while a $10,000 dollar donation will get someone an executive producer credit and a VIP dinner with the man himself, and his production team.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For won’t be coming to a theater near you this October.

Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s highly-anticipated sequel was originally scheduled to arrive in just a few months. Unfortunately for, the follow-up is getting pushed back to next year.

According to Coming Soon, Sin City: A Dame to Kill Your won’t hit theaters until August 22, 2014. That’s quite a delay, especially considering the movie was slated to arrive this October.

Why did Dimension decide to push the film back until next summer? The studio isn’t saying. Given that the production has already encountered a number of delays during its road to the big screen, chances are more work still needs to be done. Of course, this is pure speculation on my part.

Slash Film reports the Sin City sequel currently has the August date all to itself. However, the flick does have some stiff competition that month. James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables 3 are also scheduled to arrive next August.

This marks the second Frank Miller movie to be pushed back in recent days. 300: Rise of an Empire was also slated for release during the later half of 2013. However, Warner Bros. decided to push the movie’s release date into 2014. Miller fans are probably really frustrated right about now.

Fortunately for Robert Rodriguez aficionados, Machete Kills is still expected to arrive in theaters later this year. The star-studded sequel is currently scheduled for release on September 11. Did you miss the recently-released trailer? You can find the clip embedded below.

Prometheus 2 will be written by Transcendence scribe Jack Paglen.

Since enough people turned out to see the sci-fi flick in theaters last year, apparently director Ridley Scott and the folks at 20th Century Fox are interested in putting together a sequel.

In order to make that happen, the director and the studio needed a writer. Since a lot of good things have been said about his script for Transcendence, Jack Paglen ended up landing the Prometheus 2 job. Work on the project is expected to begin shortly.

According to Coming Soon, Prometheus 2 doesn’t have an official title to speak of just yet. Instead, the project is currently unknown as Untitled Prometheus Sequel. Since that’s difficult to fit into a headline, most websites are using the placeholder Prometheus 2 until something better comes along.

Fans of the flick have probably heard Jack Paglen’s named mentioned before in regards to the proposed follow-up. The Wrap reports that he’s currently in negotiations with 20th Century Fox for the Prometheus gig. The next installment is also rumored to be moving away from the connections to Ridley Scott’s Alien universe.

Although I wasn’t necessarily a huge fan of Scott’s Prometheus, apparently I’m in the minority. The 2012 flick ended up with a “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an audience score of 72 percent. The film also performed pretty well at the box office; the flick would ultimately go on to make around $406 million worldwide.

Before Prometheus 2 arrives in theaters, curious parties will be able to check out Paglen’s work on Transcendence. The movie will serve as Wally Pfister’s directorial debut. The talented cinematographer previously worked on several of Christopher Nolan’s movies. The movie will hit theaters next year.

Morgan Freeman is reportedly in talks for director Luc Besson’s action flick Lucy.

The latest endeavor from the director of The Fifth Element tells the story of a woman who is transformed into an unstoppable fighting machine after a super drug finds its way into her body. The side-effects also allow her to see into the future and move objects with the power of her mind.

According to The Wrap, Scarlett Johansson will star alongside Morgan Freeman in Lucy. Johansson is on-board to play the hero, while Freeman will tackle the role of a professor she must find before time runs out. It sounds a lot like Neil Burger’s Limitless except with a female lead and a bit more focus on action.

Although it’s likely Morgan Freeman will sign on for Luc Besson’s Lucy, it’s worth noting that nothing about his involvement is currently set in stone. Until the director, the actor, or the studio makes an official statement, try not to get too excitement about the idea.

Coming Soon reports Universal Pictures will handle distribution in North America and a handful of other territories. The studio hasn’t set a release date at the moment.

Morgan Freeman has been staying pretty busy here lately. His latest big screen credits include the Tom Cruise sci-fi flick Oblivion and Louis Leterrier’s Now You See Me. He’ll also appear alongside Robert De Niro, Michael Douglas, and a slew of other big names in Jon Turteltaub’s Last Vegas. The film opens this November.

If you’ve already seen Man of Steel, you have plenty of reasons to go back for another round with the “Last Kryptonian.” First and foremost are a number or clever easter eggs sprinkled throughout the movie, which included references to both Lex Luthor and Bruce Wayne (aka Batman).

Most of you probably noticed the “LexCorp” logo on the fuel tanker during Superman’s climactic final battle with General Zod. But there were tons of other little in-universe nods, both to Superman mythology and branching over into Batman territory.

Also during the final battle with General Zod, the two fight in space briefly and crash into a satellite … a satellite that has the Wayne Enterprises logo on it. Fanboys have been going crazy over this easter egg, and have wondered about its implications.

Does it mean that a Justice League movie is actually imminent? Does it mean that Zack Snyder’s Superman and Christopher Nolan’s Batman share the same universe after all?

In an interview with MTV News, Snyder revealed that he just threw stuff from the comic books into Man of Steel to hint at a larger DC Universe, but without explicitly suggesting any implications.

“There’s no conference I had with DC where they said, ‘is there any way we can get Lexcorp in there? Or Wayne Enterprises’,” Snyder said. “I’m just like, this is cool stuff — we need to put it in the movie. Because I feel like it shows that there’s a big DC Universe is out there.”

Basically, Snyder is a fanboy director.

Still, Nolan and screenwriter David Goyer’s participation in both film franchises could have led to the Wayne Enterprises satellite being put in as a sort of in-joke or wink at the Dark Knight trilogy.

We won’t know for sure until DC releases details on the future of its film universe, though previous efforts (aside from the stand-alone Dark Knight films) haven’t been able to match the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Word as of now is that the Batman franchise may be rebooted, and that Nolan’s Batman is separate from DC continuity. However, Snyder’s Man of Steel could share universes with future DC Comics adaptations.

‘Man Of Steel’ Included Nods To Lex Luthor, Batman is a post from: The Inquisitr

Man of Steel is doing even better than Warner Bros. expected and most importantly, is silencing competitors and critics alike. The public has been overwhelmingly supportive of the film earning it over $200 million worldwide since it screened to the public on Thursday.

Walmart had a special screening for its customers on Thursday night which has added to the totals being reported. The Inquisitr reported on Monday that the movie was a hit in foreign markets.

THR is reporting that the earlier figure of $113.1 has been updated to $128.7 million for the North American market over the past three days. In the UK where British actor Henry Cavill (Superman) hails from, the film did very well, reaching the number one spot on its opening weekend bringing in $17.1 million.

The film, which opened in 24 international markets is outpacing producer Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises by 39 percent. The Batman movie earned $470 million internationally. Man of Steel will open in 26 additional international markets this coming weekend.

Henry Cavill, in the meantime is enjoying a surge in popularity which is not likely to slow down any time soon. The handsome Brit portrays a vulnerable superhero who is seen struggling with his identity. Director Zack Snyder has stated that when Henry tried the suit on, he knew he had his man.

Man of Steel, has received mixed reviews, but managed to earn an A- CinemaScore, as a sign of strong word of mouth. In other words, the audience is liking the movie very much indeed.

Some other interesting stats as it relates the release this weekend are that males attended more heavily than females with 56 percent and older moviegoers also gave it a boost, with 62 percent of the audience over the age of 25.

Imax theaters did big business for Warner Bros., taking in $13.3 million or 12 percent of the total gross score the biggest June opening of all time. Overall, 41 percent of the revenues came from 3D screens.

‘Man Of Steel’ Breaks $200 Million Worldwide: Box Office Report is a post from: The Inquisitr

Even though Amazing Spider-Man 2 hasn’t even come out yet, Sony went ahead and officially announced that Amazing Spider-Man 3 and Amazing Spider-Man 4 will go ahead with production anyway, with release dates in 2016 and 2018.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Marc Webb’s follow-up to 2012′s Amazing Spider-Man, won’t hit theaters for another year on May 2, 2014. But Sony apparently has enough faith in the franchise to green-light ASM 3 and 4, to be released two years apart in 2016 and 2018, respectively.

Specifically, Sony announced that The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will hit theaters on June 10, 2016, while The Amazing Spider-Man 4 will follow in 2018 on May 4.

“Spider-Man is our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise, so we’re thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years,” said Jeff Blake, Sony chairman of worldwide marketing.

The first Amazing Spider-Man grossed over $752 million worldwide after release last July. The sequel is one of the most highly-anticipated films of 2014, with director Marc Webb teasing the film’s development with almost-daily updates on Twitter.

The film will see Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone reprising their roles from the first film.

Newcomers include Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, Jamie Foxx as Electro, Paul Giamatti as Rhino, Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn and Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn.

With Sony’s announcement, it’s hard to say what will come next for the Amazing Spider-Man franchise. The return of Garfield is probably a given (at least for 3) as well as the return of Woodley and perhaps DeHaan and Cooper.

Emma Stone’s return is unlikely (for comic book continuity reasons, but you never know). Marc Webb’s spot as director may also not be guaranteed for the sequels.

Since we already have Heathers the television show coming soon, what would be better than a Heathers remake? Try this on for size Heathers meets Fight Club, starring Natalie Portman. It isn’t completely locked yet, but it looks like the genre twisting film Dare Me may score Portman in its coveted role.

The film is an adaptation of the Megan Abbott novel, which is officially described as Heathers meets Fight Club, with teenage cheerleaders. Now where does Natalie Portman come into this? She’s too mature to pass for a high school cheerleader these days.

From our guess Portman will play the young new coach that disables the power trip of two queen bee cheerleaders. So where’s the catch? A suicide in the high school grabs the police’s attention, and a full blown investigation on the coach and her squad takes place.

The official abridged synopsis of Dare Me goes on to explain the novel:

“Addy Hanlon has always been Beth Cassidy’s best friend and trusted lieutenant. Beth calls the shots and Addy carries them out, a long-established order of things that has brought them to the pinnacle of their high-school careers, until the young new coach arrives. Only Beth, unsettled by the new regime, remains outside Coach’s golden circle. A suicide focuses a police investigation on Coach and her squad. After the first wave of shock and grief, Addy tries to uncover the truth behind the death—and learns that the boundary between loyalty and love can be dangerous terrain.”

Sounds like this could be a much welcomed teen adult film. In recent years, Portman has taken a step back to focus her attention on motherhood, but, since then, she has set up a bunch of interesting roles. In the upcoming film Jane Got A Gun, Portman plays an ex-lover out to save her outlaw husband from a gang. She also steps into Terrence Malick’s world pretty soon in Knight of Cups which has been described as “a man, temptations, celebrity, and excess.”

Aside from Portman’s dark turn in Black Swan, we haven’t seen such a gutsy line of roles on her resume since 2004′s Closer. For Dare Me, Michael Sucsy of The Vow and Grey Gardens is set to direct the adaptation. Lets hope it’s more Grey Gardens than it is The Vow.

Keeping with the extremely hilarious, but not safe for work trailer, Don Jon released a very special clip for Father’s Day. Jon “Don Jon” Martello’s father (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is the quintessential Italian dad Tony Danza. He’s the type of dad any new filmmaker could ask for while making a film about the fabric of an Italian household.

For Danza, his role in Don Jon is a great departure from his famous Who’s The Boss? character. Devoid of its own comedic laugh track, Danza seems to be scoring a lot of laughs as the brash, and sometimes tactless father in Don Jon.

In this exclusive clip from the film Don Jon, Jon Sr (Danza) is highlighted in a scene, which seems to take place early on in the film. While some have suggested that this scene, where Don Jon introduces girlfriend Barbara (Scarlett Johansson) to his parents, is extremely important, this clip suggests the moment is more comedic than anything else.

Tony Danza’s character seems to be more than impressed with Barbara’s attributes, than what she can or can not offer his son. Danza even makes some typical fatherly comments about how proud he is of his son getting some ScarJo tail. It’s a nice clip of one out of a few treasured family moments in Don Jon.

Going by Don Jon’s synopsis, his scenes particularly with his father go much deeper than is suggested from the clip. Don Jon’s synopsis is listed as follows:

“Jon Martello (Gordon-Levitt) is a modern day Don Juan who objectifies everything in his life, especially women. But his addiction to porn has made him dissatisfied with life and he sets out on a journey to find a more gratifying sex life. However, he ends up seeing the bigger picture and learning more about life and love through two different women”

Sofia Coppola’s new movie The Bling Ring managed to generate strong numbers despite opening in just a handful of theaters over the weekend.

The film tells the real-life story of several teenagers who use the internet to track down high-profile celebrities so they can rob them. Emma Watson, Leslie Mann, and Taissa Farmiga star in the flick.

Although Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel have been making quite a few headlines, Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring also made some waves at the box office. Despite opening in only five theaters over the weekend, the film managed to earn an impressive $210,000.

According to Deadline, this number fell short of trumping Harmony Korine’s indie sensation Spring Breakers. The movie, which is slated to hit home video this summer, generated $230,000 in receipts from just three theaters. A24 is understandably pleased with the film’s success.

The distributor said in a recent press release:

“Sofia Coppola’s latest and greatest has certainly entered the zeitgeist and we look forward to capitalizing on this great success as we expand nationwide next weekend. It is the highest opening for a Sofia Coppola film since ‘Lost in Translation’ and played to sold-out crowds in NY and LA on Friday and Saturday with the highest per screen average of the weekend.”

The Wrap reports that The Bling Ring isn’t the only indie darling that’s generating a fair amount of business in limited release. Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing made approximately $152,580 from total of 23 theaters. The number of locations currently screening the flick is up from five last week.

Warner Bros. is hoping to get Man of Steel 2 in theaters as early as next year.

Considering the studio has a certified hit on their hands, it’s not altogether surprising that executives are eager to capitalize on the film’s success.

According to Worst Previews, Warner Bros. is currently putting Man of Steel 2 on the proverbial fast track. The studio will have to work overtime if it hopes to get the next installment of the franchise in theaters by 2014.

In addition to making close to $200 million worldwide, the website reports Zack Snyder’s Superman flick earned around $190 million from cross promotions and tie-ins. Needless to say, Man of Steel 2 is going to happen. However, it’s unclear when Warner Bros. hopes to have the flick ready to go.

Warner’s Dan Fellman said the success of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel will likely help other DC characters find their way to the big screen in the next few years.

“It’s more than just a franchise for us, it really opens up the door to do combinations of the DC Comics characters. We can build them up like Marvel did and benefit from the history of DC,” he told The Wall Street Journal.

So what does this mean for the proposed Justice League movie? Reports suggest the studio is still moving forward with the project as planned. Although nothing solid about the movie has been confirmed by Warner Bros., insiders believe the flick should arrive in theaters by 2015.

Of course, there’s not too much information about Justice League or Man of Steel available as of this writing. Since Warner seems determined to get the sequel up and running by next year, chances are more information will start popping up in the coming months.

For seven years Adrian Grenier represented the lavish lifestyle of an A-list celebrity. To many Grenier was a product of his meta-character Vincent Chase on HBO’s Entourage.  As his character grew into his rising fame, Grenier took a direction that was off the beaten path. What resulted is a short but impressive body of work as a documentarian. Taking tentative steps as a filmmaker Grenier crafted a touching documentary Shot in the Dark, which took him on an emotional search to find the meaning of the word “father” while unraveling the true identity of his own.

Now years later he’s giving back as a producer in the documentary How to Make Money Selling Drugs.  A controversial film that leaves out any cause for sensationalism, Grenier and director Matthew Cooke took on the arduous task of looking at the other side of the drug world. How to Make Money Selling Drugs is an entertaining, often humorous, yet poignant message that shows how one can hypothetically move up from a corner drug dealer to a drug cartel honcho roped in with keeping up the lifestyle. As the documentary winds on, it boldly targets the fallacies involved in the war on drugs policy, and leaves no stone unturned as it delves into the corrupted systems run by federal enforcers.

Taking what society deems as unsavory characters, the documentary candidly profiles ex drug-dealers, hustlers, and inmates and cracks the stereotype wide open, showing a charismatic and truthful look at people fighting to make ends meet in a society that “Just says no.”

The Inquisitr’s Niki Cruz spoke with Adrian Grenier about the film, and what’s next for his Entourage character.

THE INQUISITR: What about How To Make Money Selling Drugs inspired you to produce it?

ADRIAN GRENIER: It’s director Matthew Cooke’s vision. He was the inspiration. He’s very passionate about the topics and he’s extremely educated, but more importantly he had such an entertaining vision for how to tell the story. As important as documentaries may be you still need to get the audiences in the seats. I think it’s different. People will be entertained and they’re going to tell their friends and they’ll watch it over, and over again, but at the same time they’ll get the important message in it.

THE INQUISITR: What was immediately striking about this film is that it doesn’t come off like a Saturday Morning special, but it also doesn’t glorify the lifestyle in any way. Was that always the route?

GRENIER: Yeah I think in order to tell an honest story or attempt to approach the truth you’re going to have to look at it from all the perspectives. In real life there’s tragedy, there’s disaster, there’s a lot of different sides. You’re looking for human sides to these drug dealers. These are the people who have been there, behind the scenes, and you start to realize that there are tragic moments, and you have to represent that. At the same time these are just people that found themselves in a difficult situation, and made bad choices, and were put up against policies that didn’t give them a fighting chance.

THE INQUISITR: Did producing this film make that transition of coming off a long-running tv show like Entourage easier?

GRENIER: I’ve made several documentaries and this is my fifth one at this point. I don’t know. For me it’s really about the hustle of trying to capture the moment. I don’t think it’s ever easy. It’s always a challenge. I might of had a little more sway while talking to some of the subjects because they know me, so there might have been an immediate trust or legitmacy to the project. Beyond that you’re constantly trying to make it happen. That’s just the nature of film.

THE INQUISITR: Aside from the obvious ways, in terms of fulfillment, how does producing a documentary differ than directing one?

GRENIER: It’s really about creating final say. The director needs to have total control and trying to make that final judgement of what gets cut, but that being said, as a producer I’m certainly very vocal. It was really Matthew Cooke’s decision to make the film more entertaining, and it’s because of Matthew that the film has that visual and pacing. The visual style, which I think is so important, helped with the film being so accessible and as entertaining as it is.

THE INQUISITR: Was there anything while conducting the interviews that surprised you?

GRENIER: Yeah. How likable all our subjects are. These are supposed to be hardened criminals, right? That’s what the drug policy wants you to believe. People who do drugs or are involved in the drug game are people who should be punished. I don’t believe that anymore. There was a time where I, without thinking, took on that assumption from the taboo that it was propagated by. Then I realized, oh wait a minute that’s actually not true, most people who are in jail for drugs are non-violent and it’s the jail that has trained them to be violent for them to survive. Even the black market that creates the tension between gangs who are looking to militarize their own little operation become violent. I’ve learned so much.

GRENIER: Thank you so much. It’s something that you’re compelled to do. When I first made Shot in the Dark it was because I had a video camera, and I said, “Oh I can do this.” I went out and started filming. I thought, “How hard can this be?” It was only until later that I realized “Oh, it actually takes a lot of work to make everything flow and for things to have an arc.” I’m in the business of telling stories. It’s what I do. I love it and I find it really fulfilling and I would encourage anyone out there, if you have a story to tell, to go out there and make a documentary. You can use your iPhone now. I think that’s the beauty of documentary film. It’s important for us to communicate honestly and candidly about things.THE INQUISITR: I found your film Shot in the Dark to be incredibly touching, and I also enjoyed Teenage Paparazzo. What does it take for you to say, “I want to make that film”?

THE INQUISITR: Jumping a bit, we’ve been hearing about the Entourage film for months now. The last time we saw Vince he had a pretty zen-attitude about his place in the industry. Everything came full circle. What do you hope this film brings to Vince?

GRENIER: I hope that they end up having a great time because if they have a great time then I’m having a great time. It’s my job to play that. I just hope we get to do something epic and very large.

THE INQUISITR: Do you see the Entourage film filming in a few months?

GRENIER: I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if they got it together that quickly, but I wouldn’t hold my breath either.

THE INQUISITR: Some people may not know that you’re an entrepreneur and a lot of that involves your passion for music and social media. Can you discuss your involvement with your latest project, The Wreckroom?

GRENIER: I don’t know how these things end up happening. You get something so simple and then I guess it’s the core concept that people get excited about and start contributing from there. The Wreckroom is really just a simple idea of giving away the excess bandwidth of my recording studio to hear bands that wouldn’t necessarily be able to record in a semi-pro studio. Then people started showing up and it collected good will, and it got larger than I originally intended. I think it’s sort of the whole give and you shall receive thing. You give and then you get back tenfold. Now we’re bringing a lot of attention from really well-respected people in the industry. It’s really excited. I’m happy.

THE INQUISITR: As far as your own musical endeavors, are you still making music with The Honey Brothers?

GRENIER: I haven’t been working with The Honey Brothers because I’ve become so busy. The Honey Brothers took a spring hiatus, but we’ve been working with a band called The Skins. The Skins are doing really well.

THE INQUISITR: The film talks a lot about the fabric of the American dream. What’s the American dream for you?

GRENIER: I think freedom. Freedom in having the opportunity to express yourself creatively and explore ideas beyond the day and day survival of trying to make a buck and feed your family.

Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel proved to be a huge hit in foreign markets over the weekend.

Superman’s latest big-screen adventure managed to generate quite a bit of money for the suits at Warner Bros. in the United States. However, North America isn’t the only territory where Man of Steel is making a huge impact.

According to The Wrap, movies based around Superman generally don’t perform very well overseas. Since the character is seen as a purely American superhero, his cinematic adventures generally don’t do a lot of business outside of the United States. However, that appears to have changed with Snyder’s recent effort.

Over the course of the weekend, Man of Steel managed to bring home around $71.6 million from foreign markets. This brings the film’s international total to approximately $193 million. Apparently the studio’s re-imagining of the character managed to strike a chord with audiences overseas.

Deadline reports the latest Superman movie dominated the market in the UK. The film earned around $17.1 million from nearly 600 theaters in this particular territory. Man of Steel even managed to best the opening weekend figures posted by director Shane Black’s superhero sequel Iron Man 3.

UK moviegoers weren’t the only ones to cough up a considerable chunk of change to see Zack Snyder’s reboot in theaters. The movie made around $5.6 million in the Philippines, $9.8 million in Mexico, and approximately $8.8 million in South Korea.

Stateside, Man of Steel earned $113 million over the course of three days. When early screenings are added into the equation, this figure jumps to approximately $125 million. It would appear that audiences weren’t altogether interested in the negative reviews dished out by a handful of critics.

Channing Tatum takes on the bad guys in the latest clip from the upcoming thriller White House Down.

The Magic Mike star tackles the role of a Secret Service agent named Cale in director Roland Emmerich’s action flick. In order to eliminate a group of terrorists determined to take over the White House, Cale will join forces with the President of the United States (Jamie Foxx).

The embedded White House Down clip finds Channing Tatum engaged in a firefight with a group of heavily-armed terrorists. The footage involves a lot of bullets, a few close calls, and a lot of sliding and diving. Fans of the actor should anticipate a lot of action from his latest cinematic endeavor.

The clip also gives prospective moviegoers a chance to see Jamie Foxx in action. Although the Jordans he’s wearing in the video look a little out-of-place, they make for a pretty funny moment involving the President and one of the terrorists.

Although Channing Tatum’s action flick doesn’t hit theaters until the end of the month, White House Down is already generating a healthy amount of positive reviews from a number of established film critics.

“White House Down is a fun summer action film that earns its cheesiness. A surprising human center helps enhance the super dumb set pieces,” Slash Film critic Germain Lussier explained after a recent screening.

Fellow Slash Film reviewer Peter Sciretta was also impressed with Roland Emmerich’s thriller, calling it the “dumb fun popcorn flick of the summer.” He also stated it was Emmerich’s best effort since the 90s science fiction epic Independence Day.

In addition to Tatum and Foxx, White House Down stars Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, Richard Jenkins, and James Woods. Curious audiences can check out Emmerich’s action flick start competing for your entertainment dollar on June 28.

Thor’s archnemesis and adoptive brother Loki won’t be appearing in The Avengers sequel, according to director Joss Whedon.

Whedon told Empire Friday that the supervillain, who first appeared in 2011′s Thor, won’t be reprising his role for The Avengers 2. 

“Everyone is going to be looking for the Loki-Hulk smash moment and you’ll be looking for [a quim moment]. First of all, imitating what I did before is the surest way to do it not as well,” Whedon said, referring to a scene in The Avengers in which Loki (Tom Hiddleston) calls Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) a “mewling quim.”

Whedon added, “Second of all, Loki’s not there to say those terrible things. Although I do think we should bring the word back, not as an insult, it’s just a nice word.”

Hiddleston seemed to foresee his character being cut from the sequel.

“I haven’t spoken to Joss. He’s definitely doing it. So I suspect not, only because I think that probably the audiences are tired of Loki being the bad guy,” he said last December. “Maybe the Avengers need somebody else to fight.”

While Loki won’t be in The Avengers 2, which is slated to be released May 1, 2015, he will still be appearing in Thor: The Dark World, which is currently in post-production and set to be released November 8.

Joss Whedon also recently clarified that there would not be a crossover between The Avengers 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy.

“We’re following Guardians at Shepperton [with Avengers 2], but we won’t be swapping cast members,” Whedon told Bleeding Cool. ”Every movie is its own thing and has to be. Unless I take a lot of peyote and write a very different draft, and I’m not ruling that out.”

Man of Steel changed a few things about Superman, and here’s what they got wrong.

It’s a fact that has stood since the dawn of superhero movies. Movies will always change the character in some ways, and comic book fanatics will always slam the films for doing so.

The best-written movies will always have it happen, so it’s not just the bad movies that get something wrong. Face it, if the films stuck to the comics, the movies would be ridiculous and predictable, and probably teeming with bad acting as they verge on downright boring. If Iron Man had stuck to the comic books, Robert Downey Jr. would probably have had to act like he’s extremely uninteresting, and the movies would have tanked.

There is a line that needs to be crossed when comic books are adapted to the big screen. If the true origins make it boring or impossible to film within the budget, the origins will be changed. If Batman had stayed true to the comics, Christopher Nolan’s series wouldn’t have ended after three movies, and Arkham Asylum would have gotten more of a focus.

The same stands with Man of Steel. Comic book characters on the most part tend to be uninteresting, especially if they have to live up to a code of conduct. And few superheroes have a tighter code of conduct than Superman.

There will be spoilers ahead, so read on only if you haven’t seen the film or don’t mind spoilers.

In the end, Superman beats General Zod by destroying things better and putting an entire city at risk. That’s not like the comic book hero at all, in that up to this point, the man of steel would never put others’ lives at risk. He would kill himself to save a kitten from a tree.

Then when all is said and done, Superman kills General Zod. In the comics, the man of steel never kills. It’s against his code as a role model for Earth’s people. Yes, he feels conflicted about it and needs Lois Lane to tell him it’ll be alright, but Superman has never killed even his most powerful, most evil adversaries.

How do you feel toward what Man of Steel got wrong about Superman? Do you think Superman’s new-found moral ambiguities make him a stronger character as a result?

Man of Steel topped the weekend box office, breaking a June record in the process.

Director Zack Snyder’s reboot of the legendary comic book character earned an estimated $113 million over the weekend. When combined with Thursday evening’s totals, the Superman flick brought home around $125 million. The movie now has the best June opening in history, breaking the previous $110 million record set by Disney’s Toy Story 3.

Hollywood analysts originally believed Man of Steel would land somewhere around the $90 million mark. More generous estimates put the flick’s total about $100 million. Warner Bros. decided to keep expectations a little lower; the studio predicted Snyder’s reboot would make approximately $80 million on opening weekend.

Man of Steel got the ball rolling early with $44 million in ticket sales on Friday. Saturday’s numbers weren’t too bad, either; audiences spent an estimated $36.3 million to see what all the fuss was about. While Sunday’s figures aren’t nearly as strong, the film is expected to generate around $32.7 million in receipts.

According to Deadline, Warner Bros. said Superman’s latest cinematic adventure is proving popular in foreign markets as well. The studio predicts Man of Steel will bring in around $71.6 million overseas. The movie opened in 9,710 theaters in a total of 24 different markets.

Snyder’s movie managed to make this tidy sum of money despite receiving quite a few negative reviews. Although its Rotten Tomatoes score stands at 56 percent, moviegoers seemed to enjoy the flick. The audience score is currently a healthy 82 percent.

Warner Bros. isn’t the only studio with a certified hit on their hands. The raunchy R-rated comedy This is the End made an estimated $20.5 million at the box office this weekend. Since opening on Wednesday, the film has earned around $32.8 million. On a budget of $32 million, that’s not too bad at all.

Last week’s number one movie, the low-budget horror flick The Purge, dropped off considerably following its strong debut. The film earned around $8 million this weekend, which is still more than what Universal spent to make the flick. Not surprisingly, the studio is already moving forward with a sequel.

Krysten Ritter has signed on for a role in Tim Burton’s Big Eyes.

The Alice in Wonderland director’s latest big screen endeavor tells the story of Margaret and Walter Keane. The couple were responsible for painting pictures of children with large eyes in the 50s and 60s. Their work is credited as one of the first mass-marketed art sensations.

According to Deadline, Krysten Ritter will play Margaret’s friend in Tim Burton’s Big Eyes. Django Unchained star Christoph Waltz will tackle the role of Walter Keane, while Amy Adams will portray his wife Margaret.

The biopic was penned by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. The story follows the couple’s rise to fame and their eventual separation. The couple would go on to fight over the rights to their creations in court.

The Belfast Telegraph reports Krysten Ritter is understandably excited about her role in Tim Burton’s Big Eyes. Shortly after landing the role in the flick, the actress shared her excitement about the project with her followers on Twitter.

“Over the moon!! It’s been a dream to work with Tim Burton! Dream big kiddies!” she tweeted.

Big Eyes isn’t the only thing the Breaking Bad actress is excited about right now. Krysten Ritter has also signed on for Rob Thomas’ big-screen adaptation of his cult TV series Veronica Mars. Filming on the project is expected to begin shortly.

“I’m delighted to confirm that Krysten Ritter will be returning as Gia Goodman. Despite the name of her most recent television series, Krysten couldn’t be lovelier to work with. I’m thrilled that she’ll be joining us for the movie,” Thomas said shortly after her casting was announced.

Ritter will join Veronica Mars alumni Kristen Bell, Jason Dohring, Chris Lowell, and Christine Lakin in the upcoming flick. The movie should hit theaters at some point next year.

Interested in seeing World War Z two days early? Paramount Pictures has just the deal for you.

Moviegoers who are eager to catch the Brad Pitt zombie flick a couple of days before the general public can plurge on a so-called $50 “mega ticket” that grants you early access to the movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the pricey World War Z package is currently available in five cities. The studio teamed up with the folks at Regal Entertainment Group to offer this deal to rabid fans who simply cannot wait to feast their eyes on the long-delayed blockbuster.

Your $50 “mega ticket” also gets you a few perks that won’t be available to general audiences. In addition free popcorn and a limited-edition poster, those who pony up the cash to see World War Z early will also receive a digital copy of the flick as soon as it becomes available.

Regal Entertainment Group chief marketing officer Ken Thewes said in a recent statement:

“Regal is pleased to offer this ultimate fan event at five locations in conjunction with our partners at Paramount Pictures. The interest and anticipation for Brad Pitt’s latest thriller is at a fever pitch and this World War Z mega ticket offers a unique experience for our patrons.”

Movie Talk reports World War Z fans living in or around the Atlanta, Houston, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and San Diego areas will be able to participate in Paramount’s event. Should the $50 “mega ticket” prove popular, the studio intends to incorporate such a package into the release of all of their top-tier movies.

Mega ticket buyers aren’t the only people with early access to the Brad Pitt zombie movie. The San Francisco 49ers were treated to a screening of the flick prior to the start of minicamp.

Zack Synder’s Man of Steel proved to be quite popular at the box office on Friday.

Despite getting a critical lashing from reviewers, the cinematic reboot of the legendary comic book superhero is off to a strong start on opening day.

According to Variety, Snyder’s Man of Steel earned around $50 million at the box office in just one day of release. This reportedly included the $21 million the flick generated from midnight screenings and Walmart’s exclusive 7 pm screenings.

Although analysts believed the flick could make around $90 million, it would appear this figure has been upgraded a bit. Industry insiders now predict Man of Steel could pull in $125 million this weekend. Warner Bros. expectations were a bit lower; the studio predicted the film would earn about $80 million.

Business Insider reports Synder’s superhero epic accounted for 85 percent of all ticket sales over at Fandango. This could help the film post the largest opening weekend for June, or, better yet, one of the biggest weekend of the year.

News that Man of Steel is soaring at the box office is certainly good news for the executives at Warner Bros. A lot is currently riding on Snyder’s reboot, particularly the entire Justice League franchise. If Superman failed to connect with audiences, then the studio could scrap plans for the proposed superhero epic.

While audiences have responded by venturing to theaters and opening their wallets, critics haven’t been quite so friendly towards the picture. The 300 director’s latest big screen endeavor only has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 57 percent, a fact which shocked the website’s editor.

“As much as I love and respect our critics at Rotten Tomatoes, I’ve got to say I am shocked. Listen, the movie’s not perfect but … I just cannot fathom it. It was a good movie, you guys,” Gray Drake explained to the folks at Fox Business News.

He added, “['Man of Steel' is] definitely the film to see, because finally Superman is back and he’s going to do big business.”

Krysten Ritter has signed on for the Veronica Mars movie, creator Rob Thomas said in an email to Kickstarter backers Friday.

“I’m delighted to confirm that Krysten Ritter will be returning as Gia Goodman,” Thomas said in the email. “Despite the name of her most recent television series (Don’t Trust The B**** In Apt. 23), Krysten couldn’t be lovelier to work with. I’m thrilled that she’ll be joining us for the movie.”

Ritter also shared her enthusiasm about her return to Mars:

“G-G-G-Gia!!!! I’m thrilled to be reprising my role of Gia Goodman in the Veronica Mars movie!!! It’s gonna be very juicy Marshmallows!!!!! AAAHHHH!!!! Forgive my over-use of exclamation points. Since you can’t hear me squealing, I’m reduced to excessive punctuation. Ha!”

Ritter went on to say that Veronica Mars holds a special place in her heart since it was her first big acting job. ” … It was also one of the most lovely on-set experiences you could ever ask for,” she said.

Ritter’s character, Gia, is the daughter of Woody Goodman, owner of the Sharks baseball team and Balboa County Executive. Gia, like Veronica (Kristen Bell) is a student at Neptune High, and is a bit of a ditz. She meets Veronica for the first time on a class trip to Shark Field.

Last weekend, Veronica Mars alum Chris Lowell and Percy Daggs III signed on to reprise their roles as Stosh “Piz” Pizarski and Wallace Fennel. Production on the film is scheduled to begin in less than two weeks.

Veronica Mars ran for three seasons from 2004 to 2007. The first two seasons aired on UPN, and the last season aired on its successor, The CW. The series, which is set in the fictional town of Neptune, California, follows high school student Veronica Mars, who moonlights as a private investigator under the tutelage of her detective father.

Man of Steel had a strong opening at the domestic box office on Thursday evening, collecting an estimated $12 million, together with an additional $9 million at midnight showings for a grand total of $21 million. Comparing these numbers to Robert Downey Jr Iron Man 3, which debuted with $15.6 million at the same time in the week.

Other big openings in June include The Hunger Games ($19.74 million), The Twilight Saga: Eclipse ($30.1 million), The Dark Knight ($18.5 million), and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 ($43.5 million).

But there are certain considerations in comparing those films to Man of Steel none of them had a late Thursday evening showtime and The Hunger Games, Eclipse, and The Dark Knight didn’t have showings in 3D which is more expensive for moviegoers.

So could Superman break the June record at the box office? It is very likely. Some are estimating that it could make up to $150 million for the weekend. Warner Bros. was expecting a very conservative $85 million.

Deadline.com, Warner Bros. is reporting that Warner Bros.executives are extremely happy with the movie’s performance so far. The website estimates now (at 1 pm on Friday) $42.5 to $47.5 million today, plus “4-day cumes ranging from $126 to $132 million.”

Alt Film Guide expects the the Zack Snyder movie to gross closer to $115-$120 million.

Other versions also had successful openings. Superman Returns opened with $52.53 million in late June 2006, or approximately $64 million adjusted for inflation. Superman with Christopher Reeve collected $134.21 million at the domestic box office in 1978/79, or approximately $455 million today.

The fan reviews so far are positive, but critics are mixed. Also, we have to wait until the crowds of comic book fans can be allowed to watch it, that’s when the true numbers will come in. This is a version which shows a more human, vulnerable Superman.

Touchy Feely premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival and seems to already have critics split on its final product. Director Lynn Shelton, who at the time of its premiere was known more for her indie darlings Hump Day and Your Sister’s Sister, is also the same director who abandoned the Natalie Portman vehicle Jane Got A Gun. Next up she’s leaving all of her recent drama behind for her new quirky dramedy.

Today the trailer for Shelton’s dramedy Touchy Feely dropped. This film reunites her with Your Sister’s Sister star Rosemarie DeWitt, who will eventually play everyone’s sister or wife in every indie movie if she hasn’t already.

Touchy Feely also stars Ellen Page, Allison Janney, and Scoot McNairy. The film tells a story about a massage therapist who loses her mojo and cannot be touched or touch other people. Dentist Paul is also struggling, but with his practice, and he suddenly turns it all around when he is blessed with special healing powers. The trailer shows that it does have some heart and that familiar quirky story telling that we’re all familiar with from Shelton. Going from the trailer the specific tone that’s in all of Lynn Shelton’s films is there, but it seems to have a departure that’s less talky and more contemplative, and not everyone was thrilled by that.

Film Threat’s Erik Childress had this to say about Touchy Feely: “Credit Shelton for trying something a little more visual and poetic than the more comically-inclined relations of her past characters, but her comfort zone has been replaced with far more silences and wandering.”

During an interview, Shelton said of Touchy Feely:
“There’s quieter scenes with more breath in them because the characters are not, some of the characters are more introverted and have a harder time expressing themselves and are going through a bad time and it just has a very different vibe.”

Matt Damon will have a ton of options after Elysium hits theaters. He’s developing a film with Boston buddy Ben Affleck about criminal Whitey Bulger, and he’s mulling over new projects as we speak. Currently he’s getting a lot of attention for the strong thematic elements in Elysium, and the material that may or may not be hard to swallow for some folks. Now it looks like Damon may have another controversial film on his hands.

Earlier today it was announced that Damon is the front runner to star in a new film that will open up about one particular Catholic Church sex scandal that took place in Damon’s home of Boston. While it isn’t certain who Damon will play, the film is said to be a highly charged drama and is aiming to be in the same vein as All The President’s Men.

According to indieWIRE the Church Sex scandal film that Damon is considering will:

“Center on the journalists at the Boston Globe — Michael Rezendes, Sacha Pfeiffer and Matt Carroll, Spotlight Team Editor Walter “Robby” Robinson, Special Projects Editor Ben Bradlee Jr. and Globe Editor Marty Baron — who discovered and exposed that Cardinal Bernard Law, America’s Senior Catholic Prelate, was protecting priests accused of assault, by moving them to different parishes, where they offended again.”

This report won the group of journalists a Pulitzer Prize in 2003 and since then the project for the film has been developing for quite some time. At the time Globe editor Martin Baron said: “There was just a real determination to tell the whole truth, not just a piece of it, not just a slice.” Currently the script is being worked on by Josh Singer, who’s popular for his work on The West Wing, and more recently Fringe.

Even though the film doesn’t seem to be in pre-production, DreamWorks has found it to be a promising project and is backing the film. At the time it was announced that DreamWorks was interested, it was also reported that a big A-list movie star was currently looking at the film. Looks like it’s a no-brainer that it’s Matt Damon.

It looks to be right up Matt Damon’s alley. Damon, who usually goes after films with a message, was in the preachy Promised Land late last year. As far as the Catholic Church sex scandal it would make sense for Matt Damon to take interest. Although the scandals that the Catholic Church covered up received a lot of attention in the media, there hasn’t been a film since 2008′s Doubt that has touched on the controversy surrounding the Church. Either way this film will surely get people talking in favor of it or against it.

Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy teamed up for the action comedy, The Heat, which is already causing a stir leading up to it’s release on June 28. With the flick already buzzing, both actresses are now prepared for roles in animation films.

Bullock signed on in February to play next to co-star Jon Hamm in an spin-off of the Despicable Me series with the 2014 film Minions. McCarthy, on the other hand, has just joined the cast of B.O.O. (Bureau of Otherworldly Operations), which also stars Seth Rogen.

Bullock is not your typical animation actress and she’s only voiced one other role in such a film, which was her spot as Miriam in DreamWorks Animation’s (DWA) The Prince of Egypt. The film released in 1998 and didn’t receive the best reviews, but she’s ready to give animation another try, this time with Universal Studios.

Her character, Scarlett Overkill, is a super-villain that’s trying to take over the world. Sandra Bullock rarely plays the role of a villain, but with an action comedy like The Heat checked off her list there’s only so much more she can do.

Melissa McCarthy became an instant hit after Bridesmaids dropped in 2011 and she’s been bringing in the roles ever since. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed her newest gig in B.O.O. that has an expected release date of June 5, 2015.

DWA hasn’t released too much information on the project, though they did say, “B.O.O is the superclassified agency you’ve never heard of and certainly never seen.” According to the animation studio, McCarthy will play the character of Watts, who is the “odd-ball partner” of Jackson Moss (Rogen).

Anthony Leondis, who directed the 2008 release Igor, will hold the same position for B.O.O. which is still in pre-production. McCarthy isn’t completely new to voicing roles in animation as she’s appeared in the TV show Kim Possible and also did an episode of The Penguins of Madagascar TV series, which is also produced by DWA.

A comedian’s career post-SNL kind of has a shelf life. Several months following an SNL departure proves to be a make it or break it time for comedians with high hopes in transitioning towards sitcoms or film. Some comedians make it post-SNL and others fade into obscurity (Cheri Oteri, anyone?).

Fred Armisen made a quiet exit from Saturday Night Live at the end of this season’s close, and now it looks like he’s making a solid attempt to move into the film world. According to reports, Armisen is set to join director Terry Zwigoff’s Justice For Al.

Justice For Al, is written by Melissa Axelrod and Zwigoff and will center around a story that follows a man who is framed for a crime. The man is convicted and sentenced to house arrest and is living with his parents in the home he grew up in. With the help of his friends, he seeks revenge on the individual who set him up. Of course, it doesn’t sound anything out of ordinary, but it’s a different project for Armisen, who usually plays quirky characters.

It seems to be a perfect match for Fred Armisen and Terry Zwigoff, as Zwigoff told indieWIRE that he has little to no interest in going mainstream: “Go to Target some day and look at who your target audience is. Look at the people who are out there going to films and you realize you are totally fucked, you don’t want to do anything these people like.”

For Armisen this is his first announced project after leaving Saturday Night Live. Armisen wasn’t the only member from Saturday Night Live to take their final bow. Longtime players Bill Hader along with Jason Sudeikis capped off their time with the sketch show.

Like Hader and Sudeikis, Armisen has already made tentative dips into other material. Currently he’s on the quirky satirical sketch show Portlandia, which he created with Carrie Brownstein and Jonathan Krisel.

It’s believed that his next project Justice For Al will start shooting in the fall.

Fred Armisen Scores First Post ‘SNL’ Job is a post from: The Inquisitr

Disney has announced that two new Marvel films will be released in 2016 and 2017. Other than that, we have no idea what these films will be yet.

At the now, Marvel Studios is sitting pretty cozy with Iron Man 3 setting records as the fifth highest grossing film of all-time, and Thor and Captain America sequels on their way. Additionally, the slightly out-there Guardians of the Galaxy starts shooting this month, and Joss Whedon has completed the first script draft for The Avengers 2.

Ant Man from Edgar Wright has a firm release date after years in the pipeline, and Marvel Studios President of Production has unofficially confirmed that a Doctor Strange film will be a part of Marvel’s Phase Three.

So what’s next? We’re not sure, but Disney is definitely counting on the continued success of Marvel films, having grabbed the very first weekend of May in 2016 and 2017 for two “Unannounced Marvel Films.” That, in case you don’t know, is the “power weekend” that sets the tone for box office glory all summer.

So what could these films be? One of them could definitely be Doctor Strange, but it seems weird that they’d lead their 2016 or 2017 summer with a relatively little-known character.

Another possibility is Iron Man 4. Robert Downey Jr. is in talks to return for Avengers 2 and even Avengers 3 if there is a God, but IM4 is not as certain.

They could just be early placeholders for another Captain America and/or Thor film depending on the audience response to the sequels heading to theaters this and next summer.

Or, Disney already knows that they’re planning on a Hulk film, a Daredevil film, a Black Panther film, etc. and they’re just not ready to announce yet.

Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy have joined forces in the upcoming action comedy, The Heat, which is set for release on June 28. The new comedy duo are paired together in the flick to take down a Russian mobster and drug lord.

Bullock spoke with BANG Showbiz about her co-star at the UK gala screening at Curzon Mayfair in London on Thursday night.

“I would never compare any of my perfectly hot co-stars, who are equally hot and amazing, to each other,” she said before adding in a shout out to McCarthy. “Melissa McCarthy’s the hottest co-star of all time! Melissa McCarthy is my hottest co-star.”

The 48-year-old award-winning actress has played many roles with popular stars throughout her career, but she’s obviously never shared the big screen with anyone as hot as McCarthy. The list of co-stars for Bullock in the recent past include George Clooney, Bradley Cooper, and Ryan Reynolds.

There really isn’t much out there for an actress to accomplish during her career that Sandra Bullock hasn’t already checked off the list. She’s regularly considered one of the greatest and most influential actresses in showbiz, making any film she appears in an instant hit.

When finishing up her talk with BANG Showbiz, Bullock explained how she connected with Melissa McCarthy during filming.

“We had little time to enjoy [during filming], but the way we enjoy our life is exactly the same. I never thought I’d meet someone that was as… I don’t want to use the word twisted [as me]; the word ‘off’ might be more appropriate,” The Heat star said. “We both have the same life sensibilities, and the same things we love to do, so it was a kindred spirit. I was very lucky. You don’t get that.”

We are used to romantic versions of Superman, but Henry Cavill gives us a completely different take on the comic book character in Man of Steel, which opens today.

In the past we have seen a more innocent, for lack of a better word, representation of the superhero. He is here, it’s a fact. We know how he arrived and where, we also know he came from Krypton and is extremely vulnerable to Kryptonite.

We also know that some evil doers want to cause havoc here on Earth, Superman’s adoptive home, but, up until now, we have not seen the inner struggles that someone like him would have to endure if he existed.

Zack Snyder’s reboot is definitely a 21st Century version. We won’t get into the incredible concepts presented in the film, which are reminiscent of Star Wars. Snyder said and he was correct, that every scene is something we haven’t seen before.

Cavill presents a very sympathetic, relatable Superman. He doesn’t just discover one day that he has these super powers and can do things others can’t, as he tells Lois Lane (Amy Adams) in the movie. Henry Cavill was the perfect choice to play the part of Superman. Kudos Zack Snyder.

There is a lot of background information on Krypton in this remake, which we haven’t seen before. Fast forward about thirty years and we see Clark Kent, who people call by other names, bouncing from job to odd job, seemingly trying to fit in.

The story of young Clark is told via flashbacks and we see a boy who was seen as a freak, who realized he was different and couldn’t understand why. We also see his supportive, loving parents played by Kevin Costner and Diane Lane, trying to make sense of things, showing him how he got here.

When he finally decides to use his powers, specifically the flying, it doesn’t come naturally. It’s a thrilling scene in which Henry Cavill is seen trying at first and sort of failing. Everything he does is like that and he cannot protect everyone unfortunately.

That is the difference in this movie compared to past versions. In the past he usually saves everyone that cries for help, in Man of Steel he can’t always do so and you feel his pain. It comes through, this conflict in which he realizes he can do amazing things, but can’t fix every problem.

Henry Cavill does a very credible job as a conflicted man, who is a loner who doesn’t want this role, trying to fit in a place he knows he is not from, trying to belong. This Superman is one for our generation.

Looks like despite its March 21, 2014 release date, The Muppets…Again! still needs some retooling. Today it was announced that the muppets sequel will be named Muppets Most Wanted, instead of its originally intended title.

We think Muppets Most Wanted speaks to the style of the other muppet films before this one, and is a perfect fit. It’s a little goofy, cool, and a whole lot of fun. The stars of the film (the muppets) this time around go abroad to Europe when Kermit is mistaken for the most wanted criminal.

The original re-imagined muppets film The Muppets had tons of cameos, with Jason Segel and Amy Adams, acting alongside the group of furry friends. While they won’t make a return to this film, the cameos are still plenty. Stars include Ricky Gervais, Tina Fey, and Ty Burrell, who play the main roles. For cameos it’s believed that Diddy, Celine Dion, Tom Hiddleston, Ray Liotta, and Usher will all be included in the new installment of the new muppet film. The sequel sees James Bobin who returns as its director, and Nicholas Stroller has also returned with another screenplay.

In the official synopsis for Muppets Most Wanted the film’s plot is described:

“Mayhem follows the Muppets overseas, as they find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine — the World’s Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit — and his dastardly sidekick Dominic, aka Number Two, portrayed by Ricky Gervais.”

About his return to the muppets franchise, Bobbin was extremely enthused about his role in the film and its throwback style to comedy:

“It’s great to be back working with the Muppets, some of them even remember my name occasionally now,” the director said. As for the movie, it’s a tip of the hat to the old-school crime capers of the ’60s, but featuring a frog, a pig, a bear and a dog—no panthers, even pink ones—along with the usual Muppet-y mix of mayhem, music and laughs.”

‘The Muppets…Again!’ Gets A New Title is a post from: The Inquisitr

This year is a huge year for apocalyptic films. We have This Is The End and World War Z, and now Elysium is a whole other look at what the end of our civilization may look like.

Finding the right mix of revealing enough energetic action to pull an audience in, and giving the whole plot away has been tricky for recent trailers. However, Elysium has the problem of really blowing it for people, as the sci fi drama has created such a fantastical world that it could really hurt itself by revealing too much. Thankfully, we don’t think it has, and, if anything, the glimpses we have of Matt Damon in armor gear are pulling us into this exciting new film.

In Elysium Damon plays a man suffering from cancer, counting his numbered days on a decrepit Earth, while the people in an elite space station have the cure. It rivals in class, and our ethical treatment of people, as we see Damon’s character literally going for battle for a cure. In a film, that we hope isn’t preachy as it is mindful, Elysium also has its fair share of explosions.

The official synopsis is as follows:

“Set in the year 2154, where the very wealthy live on a man-made space station while the rest of the population resides on a ruined Earth, a man takes on a mission that could bring equality to the polarized worlds.”

Elysium is directed by District 9 director Neill Blomkamp who certainly got our attention with his feature debut. Let’s see if he can strike gold twice. We’re likely to bet on a big yes, going by its thematic relevance being the center of the story, and the smart crafting of one heck of a cast. Alongside Damon is Jodie Foster, William Fichtner, and Diego Luna.

Elysium hits theaters on August 9.

There’s a horrible saying that goes, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” Aside from the obvious offense, Courteney Cox is proving that saying wrong. At 48, which often means dead in Hollywood speak, Cox has decided to better her odds in the industry by turning to the director’s chair.

Courteney Cox will be making her feature directorial debut with her film Hello I Must Be Going. Although she’s known primarily for her roles on F.R.I.E.N.D.S. and Cougar Town, this isn’t the first step Cox has made behind the scenes. Since she retired her role of playing Monica Gellar, Cox has taken control of her career by producing.

As a producer Cox has lent her hand to numerous television series, including Mix It Up, Dirt, and of course her TBS comedy that also sees her as the star in Cougar Town. As for her career change to directing, we’ve already had a small glimpse of what Cox can do, but until now it hasn’t been on a large scale. She’s directed a few episodes of Cougar Town as well as a TV movie, so it’s safe to say that Hello I Must Be Going is her baby and her debut in many ways.

Hello I Must Be Going is penned by screenwriter David Flebotte (Desperate Housewives), and tells a story of a troubled man who returns to his hometown to right his wrongs right before he plans to commit suicide. Courteney Cox has got her work cut out for her, as this film stars A-lister Kate Walsh (Private Practice) and usual funny guy Seann William Scott of American Pie fame. If the title sounds a bit familiar, it’s because this isn’t the only film of its title. Last year there was a film titled Hello I Must Be Going. As of now it’s unknown whether or not Cox will be changing her title.

Her Hello I Must Be Going is set to shoot next month, and will also be produced by Cox and her newly ex-husband David Arquette through their banner Coquette Productions.

Man of Steel is the first Superman movie in seven years and it is on the verge of opening tomorrow in US theaters as well as 24 other overseas markets.

The expectations are high, to say the least. The Wrap is reporting that the Zack Snyder’s film could take it at least $100 million when if flies into 4,207, 80% of which are 3D.

But Warner Bros. and their partner Legendary Pictures are toning down the hype a bit and saying that they expect the movie to take in $85 million in its debut weekend. Lowering expectation in case it doesn’t do as well as they expect it will.

This is a familiar tactic used in the entertainment world, competitors raising expectations while the subject studio keeps things leveled a bit. The tracking predicts that Man of Steel could make up to $95 million while analysts say it will hit the $105 million mark over the three days.

Warner Bros. has gone all out on its marketing campaign to promote what they hope will be their next blockbuster. They have partnered with Walmart, who is offering an early screening in the US tonight, Twizzlers has the superhero’s face as do Gillette razors.

RAM trucks have been running ads on TV and the film was one of the sponsors of the NBA playoffs. There are also action figures of the red caped man. Superman is everywhere.

Considering the film had an estimated $225 million budget, the studio is doing everything in its power to recoup that and then some. The aim is to reach the $1 billion mark, which shouldn’t be impossible to do in face of all the PR going on.

The reviews are good so far and Henry Cavill is making the rounds in talk shows morning and night promoting the film. The world premiere as well as the European premiere took place this week and he is in his home town of Jersey receiving a hero’s welcome.

Everything is set for Man of Steel’s grand opening tomorrow and if all goes well Henry Cavill will not only be playing a hero, but being one for Warner Bros.

Most teens of the 90s can tell you the first time they saw their own favorite classic 90s “teen” movie. There’s so many that detailed what it means to be an angst-ridden teen, and many of those films would result in high expectations of the high school experience.

Yesterday 20-somethings gathered all over the internet to commemorate the fifteenth year anniversary of the teen flick Can’t Hardly Wait. The film meant a lot to teens during its 1998 theatrical release.

Its lead star Ethan Embry played high school graduate Preston Meyers, (or Prestoooone, as said by a then-unknown Jason Segel). Embry’s character was a hopeless romantic who was after his one true love Amanda Beckett (Jennifer Love Hewitt), but the actor had his own confession to make about his experience filming Can’t Hardly Wait. “At the time, when we were shooting that, I was the world’s biggest stoner,” said Embry. He continued, crushing the dreams of 20-somethings, “I haven’t seen the movie all the way through, and I was stoned. I never read the script. It’s about a party right? Underage kids drinking and smoking and having underage sex, right?” It goes without saying that Ethan Embry’s experience with Can’t Hardly Wait isn’t the same as the teens that sat down to watch the film in 1998.

Let’s take it back a few years. Kids born in the mid 80s could barely remember the romanticized classics like The Breakfast Club, Better Off Dead, and Sixteen Candles. While we caught TBS reruns of the films and borrowed VHS tapes, none of those movies felt like they were ours. Can’t Hardly Wait was one of our first cult classics, and we knew it even back then.

I remember exactly when I saw Can’t Hardly Wait on the big screen. It was released June 12, 1998, and I remember seeing it the day after its theater debut. All promos screamed that it would be the party of the century. Some geek exclaims during a promo “I can’t feel my legs!” also Sabrina The Teenage Witch (formerly known as Clarissa Explains It All kid) gets thrown into a pool; my excitement for the movie was tenfold. Nothing out of the ordinary happened on that day, but it was a monumental experience for me. It sticks out in my mind because I had turned thirteen a month earlier, and this would be my first legal viewing of a PG-13 film.

Adding to this occasion is that I wasn’t seeing Can’t Hardly Wait with my friends. My big sister was actually taking me to see my first “teen” film. So on a scale from 1 to 10, I was a fifteen on the cool barometer. At the time some of the jokes may have flown over my head, but I do remember laughing, because that’s what you were supposed to do. It was considered the “cool” thing to do while Seth Green’s sex-obsessed wigga-inflected Kenny Fisher was getting ready to find his ‘lucky honey” to be the one to get him laid.

The moment I knew this was the movie of my generation was when 90s it girl Jennifer Love Hewitt made her grand entrance to the night to end all high school parties. At that moment I realized sitting in a non-stadium seat, that this was MY Pretty In Pink, and it was a calling to my generation. She was the girl all of us young teen girls wanted to be in that moment; she was drooled on by everyone, and by the end of the film, she had so many romantic proclamations that by the time Preston, who claims to be her pop tart soul mate has the nerve to talk to her, she doesn’t see him for the sweet and charismatic guy that he really is.

It was our film that we could thoroughly soak up in the moment. One that we could quote at lunch the next day, and pretend as if we were all tormented tomboys like Denise Flemming (Lauren Ambrose). It had our music like the ill-fated Smash Mouth hit “Walkin On The Sun”, bombastic hip-hop of the time by Busta Rhymes, and the “broody” “Inside Out” by Eve 6. The characters were incredibly colorful, all unique with their goals and accomplishments listed in yearbook-style in the opening sequence. It seemed like there was a character for everyone to relate to. The moment the opening credits started, it felt like a special shared experience. For the first time we were invited to the most popular party of the summer, and it was definitely something to remember.

After the experience ended, the film lived on. We clung to the fashion from Kenny’s goggles, to Denise’s short haircut. It became some of our tragic and thankfully temporary staples. It was such a cult classic that it became the running formula for other teen movies to come, and was even spoofed in the 2001 Not Another Teen Movie.

Although it seemed to be the slower part of the film for me back then, Can’t Hardly Wait isn’t without its “sentimental moments.” Fifteen years later when I re-watch it my favorite moment is a very trippy appearance by Jenna Elfman as a glittery stripper angel that guides Preston back to “get the girl” instead of moping around listening to Barry Mannilow in his car. It’s overdramatic, and WTF-worthy, and all sorts of messed up, but those were the 90s, and it was mine.

Arnold Schwarzenegger claims Terminator 5 is set to begin filming towards the early part of 2014.

Rumors have been swirling recently about the state of the franchise. Although efforts were made to get the project up and running a while ago, problems behind-the-scenes forced producers to delay the project indefinitely.

However, franchise star Arnold Schwarzenegger recently stated the project could begin production as early as next year. This means fans of the series might get another installment towards the end of 2014 or at some point in 2015.

The Predator star recently headed to Australia for the 21st Century Financial Education Summit. During the event, someone had the courage to ask the actor about the project.

“‘Terminator 5′ starts filming early 2014,” he explained to The Arnold Fans.

Terminator 5 isn’t the only sequel Schwarzenegger has lined up at the moment. According to the website, the actor will receive an updated script for the rumored Twins sequel Triplets very soon. However, it’s still unclear if the project is seriously being courted by Schwarzenegger. He’s also rumored to reprise his role as Conan in The Legend of Conan.

The Inquisitr previously reported that Terminator 5 will likely find a home at Paramount Pictures. However, the rights to the franchise will revert back to director James Cameron in 2019 if producers can’t get the project off the ground.

Before any of this goes down, Arnold Schwarzenegger will begin promoting his latest project Escape Plan. The upcoming thriller finds the 80s action hero starring alongside Expendables mastermind Sylvester Stallone as two guys who desperately want to break out of prison.

In addition to these box office titans, the flick also stars im Caviezel, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Vinnie Jones, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Amy Ryan. Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate will have the film in theaters across the US on October 18.

Rob Lowe certainly knows how to channel real life figures. In 2012 he portrayed murderer Drew Peterson in a TV movie for Lifetime. This time around Lowe is turning heads for his uncanny resemblance to former President John F. Kennedy in the National Geographic Channel TV movie Killing Kennedy.

In the first look we see a contemplative Rob Lowe as JFK. His hair is parted to the side, and his arms folded tightly, mimicking a familiar pose in a famous picture of the real JFK.

National Geographic Channel’s two-house docu-drama titled Killing Kennedy, is based on the book by Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard. The synopsis from Entertainment Weekly is as follows:

“Killing Kennedy chronicles the final years of Kennedy and his assassin Lee Harvey Oswald (Will Rothhaar) leading up to their deaths in November 1963. Ginnifer Goodwin (Once Upon a Time) will play First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy and Michelle Trachtenberg (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) is Oswald’s wife Marina. The film’s debut in November and coincide with the 50th anniversary of Kennedy’s death. The project will be directed by Nelson McCormick (The West Wing).”

This isn’t the first time we’ll be seeing Rob Lowe in a political setting. Lowe has been featured in many films and television series that revolve around politics. Most famously, Lowe is known for his portrayal of Sam Seaborn in the TV series The West Wing. On the show Lowe’s character was the Deputy Communications Director who was responsible for getting President Josiah Bartlet elected. Later on his character became the Deputy White House Chief of Staff.

Since finishing the last chapter of the Harry Potter sequels, star Emma Watson has made the obvious choice of staying away from blockbuster franchises. Deciding to go to Brown University when the Harry Potter franchise wrapped and then later abandoning that, Watson took on roles in micro-budget films.

Her choice to stay away from blockbuster franchises has been a wise decision on her part, as she’s enjoyed a small role in My Week With Marilyn, was critically praised in The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, and is now following that up with an air headed bad girl vibe in Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring and currently featured in a fantastic cameo in This Is The End. Next up she’ll team up with the king of independent films himself, Darren Aronofsky in the film Noah.

That said, it looks like Emma Watson is ready for her next tentative dip into a potential franchise in the form of a promising new blockbuster film. It’s being reported that Watson is looking to her Potter past for her next huge tent pole project. She’s reportedly joining producer David Heyman for the blockbuster film Queen of the Tearling.

Queen of the Tearling is an adaptation of the first book in a trilogy written by Erika Johansen. Watson, who’s the lead, will be “set three centuries after an environmental catastrophe when a malevolent Red Queen holds considerable power.” The story sounds like an epic tale, and if executed correctly can see Emma Watson starring in three (or four considering how studios love to break up novels in favors of more films). So far the series is getting compared to Game Of Thrones, which is understood considering the familiar world.

Although Queen of the Tearling has its star in Emma Watson, it still is without a writer and director, so don’t expect this project up on the screen anytime soon. As for the series, the book series isn’t ready to be published until 2014, so we have plenty of time on this one. Either way, a blockbuster return for Watson is a welcomed one.

While it’s unlikely that this week will see the biggest opening of a superhero film (Iron Man’s gross of a $175 million opener kind of solidified that), Warner Bros. is still going to make some serious bank with Man of Steel, which is promising considering the DC world (besides The Dark Knight franchise) has failed in comparison to the Marvel world in terms of making bank with all of its superhero films.

While there’s talk whether or not Superman will be featured in the Justice League before getting his own sequel, on the other side of the comic world is Marvel and its cash cow helmer Joss Whedon. Marvel has pushed out The Avengers, Thor, Captain America, X-Men, and others. Currently Marvel and its new golden boy, The Avengers director Joss Whedon, are gearing up for Guardians Of The Galaxy and The Avengers 2. Even though Whedon is getting ready to do both films back to back, he told Bleeding Cool that the merge of two worlds isn’t likely.

When asked about the future of crossing over both Marvel films, Whedon had this to say: “We’re following ‘Guardians’ at Shepperton [with 'Avengers 2'] but we won’t be swapping cast members. Every movie is its own thing and has to be. Unless I take a lot of peyote and write a very different draft, and I’m not ruling that out.”

That said don’t expect to see a show down between Peter Quill and Tony Stark, because it probably won’t happen. Despite that fact, both casts are cropping up to be fantastic. While The Avengers 2 sees new additions in Kick-Ass’s Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Anthony Mackie, the Guardians film will see the likes of Zoe Saldana, Benicio Del Toro, Chris Pratt, Lee Pace, and John C. Reilly teaming up as ex-cons in space.

The release date for the Guardians of the Galaxy film is currently slated for August 1, 2014, while The Avengers 2 has a release date of May 1, 2015. Which film are you looking forward to seeing the most from Joss Whedon? The Avengers 2 or Guardians of the Galaxy?

Over the decades there’s not a single person who isn’t familiar with at least a version of The Little Mermaid. There’s the original 1989 film, which had spawned two other films, and a recent TLC special has gotten in on the image of the pop culture mermaid, with documenting the life of a Merman. In addition we’ve also had the Broadway play. Now it looks like we’ll be getting several tastes of a live action Mermaid film.

The Little Mermaid live action film is something that fans have been waiting to see. Based on the story by Hans Christian Andersen’s classic, the film will see the epic journey of a young mermaid princess as she completely abandons the lifestyle she’s used to under the sea, in order to be with her prince on land. It’s said that Atonement’s Joe Wright has been picked to direct the film under a working title that sees Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner as producing partners.

The most interesting addition to The Little Mermaid live action film is Kelly Marcel. The writer, who is known for Saving Mr. Banks and the screen adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey will be writing the screenplay.

So far we don’t have a clue who will star as The Little Mermaid, but it seems like we’ll have two Mermaids swimming around the cinema. It was announced that Shana Feste, the writer of Country Strong, is working on her own adaptation of a live action Little Mermaid film. Sony Pictures has signed on to bring the adaptation from Carolyn Turgeon’s Mermaid: A Twist on the Classic Tale to life. Whether or not this means that they’ll also be re-imagining Hans Christian Andersen’s version is unknown.

If the two productions get their films off the ground and running, it looks like we’re in for an epic showdown of Mermaid versus Mermaid.

Who’s your pick to play The Little Mermaid? While it isn’t known whether or not the directors will feature Ariel as a red head, we can picture Jessica Chastain or Amy Adams as the perfect fit if the film starts shooting within the next two years.

‘The Little Mermaid’ Live Action Film In Motion is a post from: The Inquisitr

Before its theatrical release the stars of This Is The End had critics wondering how meta can the film possibly get? Well, it looks like the play on their personalities extends past the film and into the soundtrack.

In This Is The End we’re given an exaggerated version into the lives of Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride, Jonah Hill, and Craig Robinson as they barricade themselves in Franco’s house for the end of the world. The film is filled with jokes about the actors failures in the industry, and peppered with jokes that attacks the public perception of each Hollywood star featured.

Now we have a look into the soundtrack that makes up the outrageous film, and there’s more meta to enjoy. Besides Seth Rogen letting his love of old school hip hop show, James Franco’s jazz band Daddy is also featured on the soundtrack, which is a bit of a play on his own meta-persona. In addition hip hop highlights include KRS-One, Snoop Dogg, Cypress Hill and J-Kwon.

Of course for those who haven’t seen the film, the soundtrack listing may spoil you a bit, particularly the usage of two huge songs in the film, that get the most laughs in the outrageous comedy.

After Earth wasn’t exactly a hit with audiences or critics (read: It bombed), but the Church of Scientology went out of its way to let you know that the film has nothing to do with the controversial religion.

SomeMany critics have included a note in their otherwise negative reviews for After Earth pointing out how the film’s plot mirrors many Church of Scientology teachings. For Vulture, Matt Patches writes:

“Will Smith has delivered an incredibly mainstream platform for the Church’s ideology. After Earth’s subtext makes every beat feel like a nod to the lessons of [Scientology founder] L. Ron Hubbard.”

But the Church of Scientology doesn’t see it that way. In a statement released to NextMovie, a Scientology rep said that the perceived connections between After Earth and the controversial religion, founded by L. Ron Hubbard, are the result of “a handful of self-promoters” proclaiming “silly nonsense.”

“After Earth has as much to do with Scientology as ‘Lord of the Rings,’ ‘Harry Potter,’ ‘Star Wars,’ ‘Moby Dick,’ ‘King Arthur,’ ‘Homer’s The Odyssey’ or countless other stories about protagonists overcoming fears and opponents,” the statement reads.

The Church of Scientology pushes anyone curious about their teachings to visit the religion’s official website.

The connection is indeed a strange one since Smith, who received a story credit for the film, has said on multiple occasions that he doesn’t practice Scientology.

He has been linked to the religion in the past (primarily through his relationship with actor Tom Cruise) but he dismissed his specific interest in Scientology in a May interview.

He said that he is a “student of world religions” who “respects all religions.” In other interviews, Smith has identified himself as a Christian.

This Is The End boasts a number of Hollywood’s young stars playing themselves in an apocalyptic comedy, but one star that won’t grace the screen is Daniel Radcliffe.

Co-writers and directors Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg had been tinkering with the idea of the movie for years, one where they would assemble a cast of their Hollywood friends. The idea started from a 2007 short film that the duo wrote called Jay and Seth Versus the Apocalypse, co-starring their friend and frequent collaborator Jay Baruchel.

One of their first choices for the full-length version released Wednesday was Daniel Radcliffe, but the Harry Potter actor shot them down.
Goldberg admitted that they should have developed the movie a little more before pitching it to him.

Goldberg said the plot was too obvious, the characters too close to the actors who played themselves, and the script filled with one too many Harry Potter cracks.

“Two years before we brought it to anybody else, we brought it to Daniel Radcliffe and he rejected it because it was sh—y, it wasn’t good enough,” Goldberg told BuizzFeed in a recent interview. “We got too excited, we jumped the gun on that. If we waited another year, I bet he would have done it.”

Those aren’t the exact words Radcliffe used when he turned down This Is The End, Goldberg admitted.

“[He] very respectfully explained that the material was not quite good enough, and he was right,” said Goldberg. “It was a bad early version. He taught us a lesson. We learned something from him that day.”

It ended up working out well that Radcliffe turned down the This Is The End role. He was replaced by fellow Harry Potter alum Emma Watson, who plays a cutthroat survivalist.

Daniel Radcliffe or not, This Is The End seems to be doing pretty well. Critics have given it high marks, and some think it will give Man of Steel some healthy competition at the box office.

‘This Is The End’ Nearly Scored Daniel Radcliffe, But Script ‘Wasn’t Good Enough’ is a post from: The Inquisitr

Even if you’re not a Superman enthusiast, the “S” on the chest of a chiseled Henry Cavill is widely recognized. The man who’s faster than a speeding bullet is equated with more mythological allegories than some of best Greek Gods. In director Zack Snyder’s dark re-imagination, he IS God. In the film, Henry Cavill, a man who fits the part of Superman incredibly well, embodies the struggle of being both Kal-El, an other worldly alien, and Clark, an ostracized man, and through both depictions a very human Superman emerges.

While the action is all there, and the heroic sequences are spread throughout the film in true super hero fashion, this is not your mom and dad’s Superman film. Guided by David S. Goyer’s script, Snyder explores Krypton with an out of this world ability, and the experience is visually fascinating. In the opening sequence, Snyder does a spectacular job of bringing the origin story to life with an incredibly visual scope that rivals any huge blockbuster of the last few years.

We follow Kal-El’s father Jor-El (Russell Crowe) as he hurriedly launches his son off to Earth after going against reproduction laws. In his son he protects the codex, which is a genetic code that has the power to rebuild the Kryptonian race on Earth. The second he does this he becomes an adversary to a powerful villain in General Zod (Michael Shannon), and meets his demise after betraying the General. Shannon’s Zod is a pretty complex villain despite only showing up for the first and third acts. By representing the people of Krypton, he’s a man whose conviction is strong as he prepares to grow his race on Earth, which he hopes to decimate.

Taking a refreshingly more modern approach, one of the best additions of Snyder’s reboot is the introduction to an assertive, savvy, and sometimes-sassy Lois Lane. the Daily Planet reporter played by Amy Adams has a real spark about her, which aids in the powerful connection she and Clark experience inside and outside of the new ultra-cool Superman suit. Unlike other versions, Lane isn’t the damsel in distress, although she does get herself in a few dangerous situations. In this film she feels more like Clark’s equal as a human.

For the center story, Snyder knew exactly what his version of Superman looked like. Man of Steel, completely devoid of the Superman name, tells a story of a young man, a very sullen and rugged Clark Kent, as he learns to control his greatness for the greater good of people. Here’s a man who’s taught by his adoptive parents (Kevin Costner and an under-utilized Diane Lane) that he must walk among the humans, and understand them the best he can.

For fans of the series, it’s a thrill to watch Clark trying to measure his abilities. While we’re all familiar with the typical “discovery” sequence, Snyder surprisingly goes in a different direction, in peppering Clark’s super human abilities throughout the whole film. This isn’t the only delineation from the superhero structure as this experience is more dramatic, and humanizing than most.

It’s the emotional core of the film that lends to a better understanding of the profound situation Superman finds himself in towards the explosive finale. Snyder chooses to focus on the emotional journey of Clark Kent, which comes with inheriting powers he can’t understand and is not able to show the world. For most of the film, we get a wealth of knowledge through flashbacks, most of a boy trying to figure out his purpose in life. He’s the “weird kid” that no one sits next to on the bus. In one instance, you can gather that he probably took on a lot of emotional beatings from kids around him. In flashbacks we’re shown Clark as a young teen dealing with greater questions that any teen with a bout of angst would ever have to go through. He’s constantly told, “People would react in fear” to his gifts. “Did God do this to me?” he asks his adoptive father, and his answer reveals itself when he’s shown the chamber he’s arrived in. It’s then that he learns that he’s not from this world, and at that point we’re taken down a very different path of exploration of what qualities embody a “super” man.

Giving a great performance by showing his range of emotions, Cavill’s Superman embodies an all-American man living in Kansas, but also one that’s frustrated by the pressure of having enormous responsibility. He’s the man that needs to bridge two worlds together. He is the chosen one to speak for the people, and the emotion that comes through is tenfold. If that’s not enough he also has to deal with being the reason for Earth’s impending destruction. All of this weighs incredibly heavy on Clark with the return of General Zod, who’s out to grab the genetic codes from Superman to build a new civilization on Earth.

Even in its action-packed third act, we can still feel the profound emotion of Superman’s decisions. For the 143-minutes we’ve taken a journey with the boy who used to play out in the Kansas field in a makeshift red cape. As he learns the difference between controlling how he’s perceived and what he can symbolize to the American people, we as the audience have gained so much more. By the film’s run a real “super” man has arrived, and we have a feeling this is just the beginning of a powerful story.

According to Steven Spielberg, the film industry as we know it is primed for “implosion.”

The acclaimed filmmaker firmly believes drastic changes are looming on the horizon. While celebrating the opening of a building at the University of Southern California’s film school, Spielberg and George Lucas discussed what the future holds for motion pictures.

Their vision of the future is definitely a little grim. According to The Atlantic Wire, the Star Wars director believes it’s only a matter of time before films like Lincoln skip the big screen and go directly to television.

“This close — ask HBO — this close,” Steven Spielberg said in regards to Lincoln heading to the small screen.

Lucas explained the only reason Spielberg’s historical drama made it into theaters is because the filmmaker owns his own company. Were it not for this fact, Lincoln may not have been distributed into theaters by a major Hollywood studio.

Spielberg and Lucas told those in attendance at the USC event that budding filmmakers were learning the craft at a very strange time in the industry. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the directors believe it’s getting tougher for talented individuals to get studios interested in their projects.

Steven Spielberg explained studios currently aren’t taking chances on scripts they feel are too “fringe-y.” Some of these ideas eventually make their way to the small screen instead.

“That’s the big danger, and there’s eventually going to be an implosion — or a big meltdown. There’s going to be an implosion where three or four or maybe even a half-dozen mega-budget movies are going to go crashing into the ground, and that’s going to change the paradigm,” he explained.

George Lucas said his World War II flick Red Tails had a very hard time getting into theaters. The filmmaker explained the “pathway to get into theaters is really getting smaller and smaller.”
