Poor Alice Eve. Her introduction to her first big blockbuster has certainly garnered some negative attention. Eve stars along the regular crew in Star Trek Into Darkness as Carol, but no one is exactly talking about her performance in the film. As soon as the trailer dropped highlighting a flash of Eve shown in her undergarments, people were up and arms over how women would be portrayed in J.J. Abrams film.

Now that Stark Trek Into Darkness is out in theaters and reviewed by other film critics, most take issue with the fact that Eve is in a gratuitous shot that shows off her body for no significant reason at all. Sure, she has a fantastic body, but the vision of her stripped down doesn’t have anything to do with the plot of the central story. Her appearance is dangled for viewers to admire, and some people are visibly upset about this.

Why would a woman who is seemingly a brilliant scientist need to strip down to her underwear for no reason? No matter how you slice it, it really doesn’t need to be in the film. The gossip surrounding Alice Eve’s underwear clad body became so loud that the men behind the film could no longer ignore it. A public apology was issued by Damon Lindelof, and now J.J. Abrams has taken a different approach.

Abrams has decided to fight fire with fire by releasing a deleted scene that involves footage of villainous Benedict Cumberbatch in a shower. Apparently J.J. either has a great sense of humor, or the issue is incredibly lost on him.

On twitter Lindelop explained the Alice Eve underwear debacle: “I copped to the fact that we should have done a better job of not being gratuitous in our representation of a barely clothed actress.”

Later on he continued, tweeting:

“What I’m saying is I hear you, I take responsibility and will be more mindful in the future.”

Think you’ve seen it all from Chris Hemsworth? Think again. His latest film outside of the superhero genre is Rush. If the trailer is any indication it looks to be certainly something out of Hemsworth’s usual repertoire. Hemsworth, who is known to people as Thor stars as real life driver James Hunt.

In Rush, driver Hunt has a good reputation for romancing the ladies as well as having a great skill on the racing track. Daniel Brühl who was introduced to American audiences as Frederick Zoller in Inglourious Basterds, plays a rigid Australian race driver Lauda.

The synopsis for Rush is as follows:
“A biography of Formula 1 champion driver Niki Lauda and the 1976 crash that almost claimed his life. Mere weeks after the accident, he got behind the wheel to challenge his rival, James Hunt.”

The first look at Hemsworth’s Rush is an energized , pulsating flick, which looks stunning viewed in the highest resolution. The trailer focuses more on the style of the film rather than the plot. It’s a beat for beat trailer showing cars, sex, and explosions, which are perfect ingredients for an action-driven flick.

The trailer starts with a voice over by Hemsworth’s Hunt saying: “There’s a lie that all drivers tell themselves: death is something that happens to other people. That’s how you find the courage to get in the car in the first place, but more powerful than fear itself is the will to win.” Followed by the voice over is the show down between the two men, which already seems to be an epic rivalry that’s left on the race track.

The hook seems for the film? “The risk of death turns people on.” Based on the short trailer, it seems like an alluring hook that will surely pull viewers in. From the trailer we have the promise of a race car film that looks to be all the excitement of Universal’s Fast & Furious, with a raw sexual undertone as well.

Rush hits theaters on September 20.

World War Z’s release date is getting closer and closer, and we’re finally getting a look into just how grand Brad Pitt’s World War Z looks. This isn’t by any means a zombie movie made on a dime and a prayer. The landscape for the film, which sees a zombie apocalypse is an expansive look on an apocalyptic zombie-filled world.

For a zombie film it’s something that we haven’t been treated to in the last several years, then again we haven’t seen a leading man as big as Brad Pitt in this genre. We can’t exactly picture Pitt fighting off zombies in a mall. Luckily we won’t have to see that anytime soon.

Directed by Marc Foster, World War Z is based on a book of the same title by Max Brooks. As for the adaptation Matthew Michael Carnahan wrote the script.

The official synopsis reads as follows:

“The story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop a pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.”

Yesterday Brad Pitt was busy promoting the new flick. He attended a special celebrity screening at MOMA in New York. Pitt also went to New Jersey to surprise some fans at a screening for World War Z. Clearly surprised, Pitt’s appearance was met with many screams as he debuted World War Z for the first time to a New Jersey audience. During his appearance the actor walked into Clearview Cinemas in Hoboken and handed out T-shirts to the crowd before introducing the film.

A source told Just Jared about the surprise screening: “Brad wanted to make sure that the screening was for the fans, the people that he made the film for. The crowd went wild when he showed up and he had T-shirts to hand out to his fans.”

World War Z, which hits theaters on June 21.

Looks like Keanu Reeves no longer has to be “sad Keanu.” While everyone was covering his slightly unkept appearance at the Cannes Film Festival, Reeves was making the best of his time at the festival.

It’s now reported that the actor made two very important distribuition deals while at Cannes for two of his films. The two films will see him back up on the big screen where he belongs. From the looks of it, these two films couldn’t be more different from one another. The first one up is Man of Tai Chi, which also happens to be Reeves’ directorial debut. Earlier in the week the film got snatched by Radius-TWC for a “low seven-figure minimum.”

Man of Tai Chi stars Reeves, who is just another actor to break out of the festival as a director. According to reports the central story is about a modern martial arts artist who travels through Beijing and lands himself in an underground fight club. Sounds like a pretty interesting film. His inspiration is said to be Tiger Hu Chen, who he met while filming The Matrix movies.

His second film called Passengers got a pretty penny from The Weinstein Company, which is a sci-fi romance that stars Reeves and Reese Witherspoon. Looking to be a little more commercial than his other flick, The Weinsteins outbid FilmDistrict and Open Road for the rights to the film. The fact that there was a hot bidding war sounds pretty promising for this flick. The creative team alone seems like a blessing as it’s written by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) and directed by Game of Thrones helmer Brian Kirk.

For Passengers the film revolves around a spaceship that transports people to a colony. One man (Reeves) is said to wake up from hibernation and faces the ultimate problem of growing old alone. From this dilemma he winds up waking up another passenger, played by Reese Witherspoon, and soon the two get involved in a strange romance.

While Passengers hasn’t begun filming yet, Man Of Tai Chi is pretty much ready to go. Are you excited to see Keanu Reeves up on the big screen again?

For years Princess Diana was the role no one wanted to touch. Actress Emily Blunt turned down the role, and is now portraying her in a different film. That said, the first actress to play Princess Diana in film, Naomi Watts, just wrapped on her film that sees her portraying the late Princess. Now we finally have a release date that’s looking to be very Oscar friendly.

It’s not a surprise that Watts’ portrayal of Princess Diana would receive an Oscar friendly release date. From the second Watts stepped out as Diana, the eerie resemblance was all anyone could really talk about. It engaged a lot of people in discussion over the biopic simply called Diana.

It’s not your conventional biopic. It won’t focus on her whole life like most biopics. Instead, Diana will only focus on her affair with Dr. Hasnat Kahn, who is said to be played by Lost star Naveen Andrews. The affair lasted from 1995 up to a few months before Diana died in 1997.

This time period proved to be a tumultuous time for the Princess, as she was going through marital problems with Prince Charles, while trying to battle the paparazzi as she sought out a more private life. The press, which she fought hard to fight off wound up ending her relationship with Kahn.

Entertainment One has snagged the North American rights for the film, and are said to be planning an Oscar season release. This proves to be good news for Watts, who was nominated last year for The Impossible, but was ultimately overshadowed by powerful and highly publicized performances by the actresses in her category. As you know the Oscar eventually went to Jennifer Lawrence for her portrayal in Silver Linings Playbook. If one thing is for certain about the Academy is that they love true stories and real life portrayals of a person’s plight.

This would combine two very specific elements and may just wind up with a win for Watts. However, it is a little too early to predict what will happen come awards season. As it is Watts isn’t the only actress to be portraying a real life person. Watts’ friend Nicole Kidman is said to be portraying Grace Kelly in Grace of Monaco, which may give the actress a bit of competition.

What’s better than seeing Henry Cavill as the next Superman? Well, try two superheroes on for size up on the big screen. It doesn’t look like it’s happening anytime soon, but if it was up to Superman star Henry Cavill it certainly would be a reality.

Cavill recently spoke out during promotion for Man Of Steel about his one wish. Cavill hinted that there is a possibility of a crossover film starring the two well-known heroes in the WB universe.

Cavill weighed in saying: “I think it would be really interesting with the age-old Batman/Superman conflict, because they are two different sides of the same coin and their methods are entirely different. And I think it would actually make for an interesting story as to why, first of all, they were going head to head and how. I think that would make a great story.”

However, this doesn’t particularly mean that Cavill would share the screen with Christian Bale’s Batman, or a Batman directed by Christopher Nolan. In the past the two men have already said that they accomplished what they set out to do with the Dark Knight franchise and wouldn’t be returning.

As it is WB is slowly getting ready to possibly reboot the Batman series. Earlier in the year there was talk that actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt could possibly take on the role, but those rumors were unfounded for the time being.

When Gordon-Levitt was interviewed by Screen Rant it didn’t even seem like he was up for a spin-off , let alone the Batman role:
“I don’t think [the ending of 'The Dark Knight Rises'] is necessarily a set-up. I think it is the great ending for that trilogy.”

Ready to hear the worst or possibly the best news ever? Mr. Chow, the Chinese death-obsessed, all-around crazy man from The Hangover series may be getting his own spin-off film. For some critics the trilogy is a staple comedy series, and for other critics the films are nothing more than lazy frat boy comedies.

That said there’s no denying that the true star to break out from all the films (well, besides Zach Galifianakis) is Ken Jeong. In all three films Jeong plays a seriously demented Chinese gangster, who’s obsessed with women, getting everyone killed, and in the third installment takes up cock fighting.

While The Hangover III is ending its trilogy, Zach Galifianakis let the cat out of the bag to Entertainment Tonight, about a possible spin-off for Mr. Chow.

During the interview Galifianakis explains the possibility of a Mr. Chow spin-off: “The ‘Hangover’ movies… have to be in the context of the three of us, I think, and Doug as well. If there was a spinoff — I don’t think I envision a spin-off — but if there was one, I think one with [Mr. Chow, Ken Jeong's demented Chinese gangster character] would work.”

Sure Mr. Chow is a beloved character of The Hangover series, with his hilarious one-liners and outrageous hijinks, but he’s a character that should only be taken in small doses. Having a fully fledged film about Mr. Chow would be a disaster if he’s not watered down for situational comedy.

Ken Jeong started out as a cameo at best in the first film, but his involvement in the franchise has grown with each film. In the second film he had a nice chunk, which proved to be too long for critics. In this third film the central plot involved Jeong’s Chow has proven to be just too much for some critics.

Blood Ties didn’t receive the best response after debuting at Cannes, and that didn’t come as a huge surprise once it was announced that the film wouldn’t compete at the festival. However, that didn’t stop buyers from having interest in the Guillaume Canet film.

It’s been reported that Lionsgate bought the distributing rights to Canet’s first English-language film. According to reports Blood Ties made $2 million from Lionsgate for the rights to distribute the film domestically, which is the highest price paid so far at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Despite opening to poor reviews, this seems like a positive spin, and that Lionsgate has faith in its commercial success. Hopefully this means Canet will fix up where he went wrong for a strong release.

Blood Ties is based on a novel by Bruno and Michel Papet and takes place in the 1970s. Its central story centers around two brothers who are polar opposites. The two brothers, Frank and Chris Pierzynski lead a life of two very different worlds in Brooklyn. Chris is a cop, while Frank falls in the trappings of a life of crime. Their worlds collide as the NYPD puts heat on the organized crime, which causes an inevitable face off between the two brothers.

Billy Crudup and Clive Own are in the leads as the brothers at odds, while the illustrious supporting cast features James Caan, Marion Cotillard, Matthias Schoenaerts, Mila Kunis, Zoe Saldana, Domenick Lombardozzi, and Lili Taylor.

Although this is Canet’s first English-speaking film, this isn’t his first crime drama. In fact, this is what he knows how to do best, as his 2006 flick Tell No One drew in attention. Hopefully Blood Ties didn’t receive distribution only because of its glitzy cast. Instead for Canet’s sake lets hope Lionsgate will give at least some pointers to the director.

So far it’s not known when Lionsgate will release the film, but we’re certain now with a lock on the rights that Canet has time to clean it up.

It’s official, we’re getting a taste of what Bad Teacher looks like in television form. CBS has finally ordered the show based on the film that resurrected Cameron Diaz as a comedic heavyweight.

The single-camera comedy, also titled Bad Teacher is officially ordered for the 2013-2014 season on CBS. The fact that Bad Teacher even landed on CBS in the first place is a big accomplishment. CBS has been the coveted place to see great comedies after performing strongly with seasoned shows Two And A Half Men, The Big Bang Theory, and How I Met Your Mother.

This time Bad Teacher will see For a Good Time Call’s Ari Graynor in the lead role of Meredith Davis, an unapologetic, inappropriate, horrible teacher and former trophy wife who is in search for a love life and someone to support her after she was left without money in her last marriage.

Graynor proved to be a worthy leading lady as she exercised her comedy chops alongside Lauren Miller in the raunchy comedy For a Good Time, Call…

Besides casting its lead, Bad Teacher has positive influence in its creative team as well. Community’s Hilary Weston adapted the show and wrote the pilot as well as executive produces the show. In addition, The Office’s Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky will also produce, which is a smart move considering the two penned the screenplay for the film version.

For CBS Bad Teacher is its fifth new comedy series ordered for the 2013-2014 broadcast season. This isn’t so surprising seeing as CBS is looking to replace big time performer How I Met Your Mother when it takes its final bow at the end of season nine next year. For that reason, CBS is expanding their comedy block with Greg Garcia’s The Millers and David E. Kelley’s Robin Williams comedy airing back to back after The Big Bang Theory.

Bad Teacher will also star Ryan Hensen, David Alan Grieg, Sara Gilbert, and Kristin Davis.

Back when it debuted at Sundance it was known as Don Jon’s Addiction, and now Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut is simply known as Don Jon. At Sundance it was one of few titles that gained fast traction from early buyers.

Don Jon stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt opposite big time players like Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, Tony Danza and Brie Larson. Don Jon looks to be the anti romantic comedy with a modern twist, and while we’ve heard it all before, Don Jon focuses on the taboo subject of porn for its lead’s emotionally stunted ultra macho man persona.

In the thirty seconds of the trailer, the character Don Jon reads a list of his values in life like a modern day dating profile. Don Jon, who got the coin from being able to pull different women into his bed, cares about his body, his pad, his family, his church, his boys, his girls, and his porn. That is until he meets a bright good-old fashioned girl who is seemingly like every woman he has ever dated on the outside, but may just change him for the better.

The synopsis for Don Jon is as follows:
“A New Jersey guy dedicated to his family, friends, and church, develops unrealistic expectations from watching porn and works to find happiness and intimacy with his potential true love.”

On paper this sounds like your typical film. Two people trying to change each other while in the end one person just ends up sacrificing their old habits while they trade up for new ones. However, going by the trailer Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s rom com looks to be a rare untapped study into the mind of a man unable to emotionally connect because of the falsifying of our culture. One debate in the trailer even shows a quick dissection into porn versus rom com films.

Last night Joseph Gordon-Levitt announced that he will be using a fictional twitter titled Don Jon to tweet as the lead character. This proves to be a smart move to immerse fans in the mindset and world of the film to familiarize the audience to who and what Don Jon is all about. If it turns out well, Don Jon could gain a bunch of followers and have potential movie-goers in his grasp for its October 18th release.

Despite the not-so-great reviews for the last Hangover installment, it seems like we’ll at least have an epic soundtrack to listen to. While The Hangover II focused on Kanye West for its main sound, this one seems just as random as the plot.

This time The Hangover III will close out the trilogy surrounding its wolf pack, but not before it reunites the guys for another go around. While driving Alan out to rehab, the men are assaulted and Doug is kidnapped, and because of this they must find Mr. Chow to surrender him to the same gangster that kidnapped Doug in order to save his life.

This time around for its soundtrack we have quite the eclectic mix of artists that paint the journey for the wolf pack. The line up spans the gamut of music from nostalgic classics to top 40, it definitely has something for everyone.

While director Todd Phillips hasn’t spoken about the new soundtrack, he did give his thoughts on the soundtrack for Hangover II and just how much music shapes his films, having said:

“I take it very seriously, music. I think it’s one of the tools that a director has with which to kind of paint. The right music can sometimes do five pages of scripted dialogue. In other words, we start this movie off with Glenn Danzig’s “Black Hell.” That tells you more about the tone than if I wrote a five-page scene. It just does so much of your work as a director when you treat it correctly. I just love doing it. It’s really my favorite part of making a movie. Figuring out the music is actually my favorite part.”

While we aren’t sure how half of these artists fit into the film, apparently the soundtrack is a bag of mixed nuts just like the final chapter in the trilogy.

For his next film Delivery Man, Vince Vaughn will father upwards to 500 children. Now before you start trying to count if there’s actually 500-some odd women that would want to have relations with Vaughn in his post Swingers state, let us clear this up for you.

Delivery Man is said to be a Canadian remake of the his Starbuck. The plot is simple albeit ridiculous as Vaughn’s character donates his sperm in 1991 and years later discovers that there was a mix up and he has fathered over 500 children. Now the women of those children are looking to sue the sperm bank, and that’s where Vaughn’s involvement comes in.

From the teaser trailer it’s too early to tell if this will be yet another box office disappointment for Vaughn. There wasn’t too many laughs or even halfhearted chuckles when the teaser is concerned. So far it looks like Vaughn is doing his typical brand of fast-talking comedy, that resembles more of a neurotic nervous breakdown than anything remotely comical. It’s one thing to have a phoned in performance by Vaughn, but from what we have to go on it looks like he’s just dragging himself through a film he knows too well.

Something that looks promising is Chris Pratt’s role as Vaughn’s lawyer. So far Pratt has been a real scene stealer in films from Zero Dark Thirty to The Five-Year Engagement, the former which failed to impress critics as a whole but turned out to be partially saved by Pratt and Alison Brie’s comedic energy. Hopefully Pratt can save Delivery Man from being another failed Vince Vaughn project.

It’s been well over five years since Vince Vaughn resurrected his career with 2005′s Wedding Crashers, and while he did well in a few movies after that, he hasn’t outperformed himself or made big bank for the budgeted films that he’s taken on since then. Most people think his comeback film will be The Internship as he re-teams with his Crashers co-star Owen Wilson. We’re hoping they’re right if Delivery Man’s teaser is any indication of how many unfunny bits are in the film.

We’ve heard our fair share of going to extensive lengths to feature digital work in films, but Lars Von Trier’s technique for his new sex addict film Nymphomaniac goes above and beyond the call of duty.

After filming ended it was said that heavy digital visual effects would be the reason Von Trier’s Nymphomaniac would be delayed, as he had his work cut out for him in post production. Now we’re finally hearing just what those digital effects entail within the film. According to a producer, the film will not be ready until the end of the year because the avant garde director is planning to combine porn torsos to its a-list cast.

Opening up to The Hollywood Reporter, producer Louise Vesth explained of the extensive work Lars had when it comes to the digital body mapping that has to happen in order for the explicit sex scenes to look real. The film, which stars Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell, Stellan Skarsgard, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Willem Dafoe were all asked to film stimulated sex scenes and then porn doubles were filmed as well. For the finished product the bottom halves of their bodies will not be their own.

Vesth went on to explain the elaborate process of using porn doubles with real actors:

“We shot the actors pretending to have sex,” the producer says, “and then had the body doubles, who really did have sex, and in post we will digital-impose the two. So above the waist it will be the star and below the waist it will be the doubles.”

Sounds like the visual effects department has their work cut out for them.

Before and during filming Nymphomaniac was receiving a lot of buzz due to its star Shia LaBeouf spilling the details about how it felt to perform real sex on set. Though now that it’s believed that none of the a-listers performed actual sex, we’re a bit confused if whether or not unstimulated Shia LaBeouf scenes actually exist.

At the time LaBeouf had said: “It is Lars von Trier, making a movie about what he’s making. For instance, there’s a disclaimer at the top of the script that basically says we’re doing it for real. Everything that is illegal, we’ll shoot in blurred images. Other than that, everything is happening.”

Even if LaBeouf didn’t perform actual sex in the film, it seems as though somewhere there’s a few explicit tapes of Shia LaBeouf out there, as he sent director Von Trier videos of him and his girlfriends having sex as an audition.”I sent videotapes of me and my girlfriend having sex and that’s how I got the job.” We’re hoping he’s joking.

Slowly but surely a fine cast is cropping up for Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice. We first reported Benicio Del Toro’s inclusion, and now it looks like Sean Penn wants in on Anderson’s new film

In the last few years Paul Thomas Anderson has escaped piling on the big names for focusing on smaller casts with break out performances from one or two big names. For example Joaquin Phoenix to The Master, and Daniel Day-Lewis to There Will Be Blood. However, if recent reports turn out to be true, it looks like Inherent Vice is going in a completely different direction in both genre and cast.

It’s said that Sean Penn is looking to join. Right now reports are saying that  Penn is being looked at to play loan shark Adrian Prussia. If Penn signs on this will be his first project with Paul Thomas Anderson, so we’re thinking the role he’s going out for is pretty significant, as the actor is known to be quite choosy with his roles.

For Paul Thomas Anderson he’s stepping away from the dark tone of The Master in favor of a comedy.  Inherent Vice is said to be “a Venice Beach slacker mixed with Cheech & Chong.”

As far as the cast goes, if Penn joins he’ll be stepping on board with a Who’s Who cast including lead Joaquin Phoenix, Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon, Benicio Del Toro, Martin Short, Jena Malone and Kevin J. O’Connor.

Sean Penn and Paul Thomas Anderson almost worked together in the past on the 2002 film Punch-Drunk Love . In the film Penn was supposed to take on the role of Dean Trumbell, but was later replaced by Philip Seymour Hoffman, who then worked with Paul Thomas Anderson again on The Master.

If they can get over scheduling conflicts it looks like Sean Penn has a great chance. Sooner rather than later, Penn is said to shoot another film called Prone Gunman, which sees him as an international spy that must clear his name to save himself from the organization he used to work for.

Inherent Vice is said to be backed by Warner Bros.

Those who haven’t read the abysmal reviews on the 70s crime film Blood Ties will be pleasantly surprised and probably delighted at the trailer that has hit the internet. From the looks of it director Guillaume Canet’s first English speaking film seems to have all the elements it needs to be an incredible and engaging crime drama.

Canet leads a huge cast of talents including Clive Owen, Mila Kunis, Marion Cotillard, Billy Crudup, Zoe Saldana, Matthias Schoenaerts, James Caan and Noah Emmerich. However, the film debuted in Cannes to not so favorable reviews. That said, we can’t deny just how good the trailer looks. Edited down, it looks like the most exciting 70s crime drama we’ve seen in some time.

The official synopsis for Blood Ties reads as follows:

“It tells of two brothers who find themselves at opposite ends of the law in 1970s Brooklyn.”

Clive Owen, who has struggled for the right role, really looks like he hit his mark in this film, while Zoe Saldana proves that both her star and talent are on the rise.  From the glimpse of the trailer Blood Ties looks to be an emotional heavyweight, which is what we expected from the premise and of its talented cast, who have all in their own right received nominations for accolades for different projects in the past.

As far as the final product, all hope is not lost as director Guillaume Cannet still has plenty of time to edit down what’s said to be a bloated plot, in favor of showing the main story while still hitting home the powerful emotions of its cast.  As of right now Blood Ties doesn’t have US distribution, but that’s only a matter of time.

‘Blood Ties’ Gritty Trailer Debuts Featuring Clive Owen And Mila Kunis is a post from: The Inquisitr

Now that Star Wars Episode VII has its director in JJ Abrams, it looks like the ball is rolling in the casting department. Rumor has it that period piece actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers is being looked at by JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot production.

Although it hasn’t been confirmed, word is circulating tha,t if Jonathan Rhys Meyers snatches up a role, it will be the second collaboration between the two.  Meyers, who’s best known for his role on Showtime’s The Tudors, teamed up with Abrams for Mission Impossible III, so it definitely looks like a promising rumor, seeing as JJ Abrams is known to collaborate with a few favorite actors.

Right now Abams is still in the middle of promotion for Star Trek Into Darkness, but, as time passes, and the more it grosses, Abrams will eventually have to turn to his Star Wars obligations if he wants to get anything off the ground with the franchise, which he inherited from George Lucas.

The only other development from Star Wars Episode VII is that the original trio is said to return, making for a great reunion between Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher. This bit of news has been confirmed from several different outlets several times, and while it’s not known the extent of their roles, we know that they will be reprising their characters that started it all.

So far there’s no word on who Jonathan Rhys Meyers will go out for, but our guess is that it will be a villainous role, as he seems to really do well with those types of roles. In addition to his rumored Star Wars Episode VII involvement the actor will be seen opposite Liv Tyler and Daniel Huttlestone in the film London Town, and in NBC’s Dracula series.

Think you’re going to miss Jon Hamm with the absence of Mad Men? Think again, as Jon Hamm’s comedy Clear History is set to make a big mark on HBO. The project is a film which will broadcast on HBO and stars a great cast including Larry David, Jon Hamm, Bill Hader, Kate Hudson, Eva Mendes and Danny McBride.

The film seems to be serviced greatly by its cast of mostly experienced comedians. The directing seems to be on par with the ensemble cast, as far as knowledge of comedic timing goes.  Director Greg Mottola is heading up the production. Mottola spent time on the defunct show Undeclared and comeback kid darling Arrested Development.

Now HBO is giving viewers a first look into Clear History as a teaser trailer has finally arrived online. The film is said to be improvised, which makes sense considering Curb Your Enthusiasm’s Larry David is leading the cast.  The film follows David as “a hipster marketing exec who sells all his shares at a start-up over a fight with his boss, only to miss out on billions when the company’s new product — an electric car — becomes a smashing success.”

The teaser, which was debuted on EW, is quite short but it certainly does the job to create tone. If anything it’s worth checking out just to see just how ridiculous Larry David looks. So ridiculous that you’ll just have to take a peek at the trailer and tell us what you think of his eccentric look.

In addition to Clear History, the network seems to be on a comedy kick as it just ordered a full series of Mike Judge’s sitcom on the Silicon Valley. So far the show is untitled, but it stars a promising cast of T.J. Miller, Thomas Middleditch, Lindsey Broad, and Josh Brener. As for that project the only details we’re privy to is that it’s a “high-tech gold rush of modern Silicon Valley, where the people most qualified to succeed are the least capable of handling success.”

Seth MacFarlane has finally answered those reports on whether or not he may host the 2014 Oscars. The short of it is that he won’t be hosting the Oscars. Initially when the host was lambasted, the comedian put out a statement saying that a second go around wasn’t really for him.

Then two months after the fact rumors persisted that he was actually going forward by discussing the possibility of hosting for a second time. Unfortunately or Fortunately, however you thought MacFarlane did, it was meant to be a one-time thing for the Family Guy creator.  Although there were reports that producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron were reeling him back in, MacFarlane had given his final word in the form of a tweet.

In the tweet MacFarlane does admit that he was approached, but ultimately he had to turn the gig down. In his true comedic spirit he tweeted:

“Traumatized critics exhale. I’m unable to do the Oscars again. Tried to make it work schedule-wise, but I need sleep. However, I highly recommend the job, as Zadan and Meron are two of the most talented producers in the business. My suggestion for host is Joaquin Phoenix” Joaquin Phoenix! Oh my days! Can you imagine!”

While Joaquin Phoenix has moved on from being the butt of everyone’s joke, and is back to actually doing what he was born to do, we kind of agree that Phoenix would be a horrible yet hilarious host. It would take a miracle to get Phoenix to agree to such a job, especially when he made comments putting down the ceremony while promoting The Master.

Who do you think will make the best host? Billy Crystal proved to be a snooze fest to some critics the year before, and the year before Crystal we had to endure the odd pairing of Anne Hathaway and James Franco. It seems like the gig is cursed and no one can come out of it unscathed. Perhaps Whoopi Goldberg?

Seth MacFarlane Confirms He’s Not Hosting The Oscars is a post from: The Inquisitr

You know what makes bank these days? Old people behaving badly. At least that’s what Summit Entertainment thinks. The studio which is currently heading up the Red series, has set some preliminary plans to get Red 3 in motion even before the sequel hits theaters.

The 2010 action comedy, which stars Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, and Morgan Freeman out performed anyone’s expectations when Red hit theaters. Red writing partners Jon and Erich Hoeber are already securing another script for the third installment, which will probably be titled Red 3, for lack of a better name.

The original film was spawned from a comic book miniseries by Warren Ellis and Cully Hammer, though it is said the series in itself is far more violent than the actual film. The sequel which is set to hit theaters July 19, seems to be the same horse and pony show. Time has passed and retired CIA agent Frank Moses reunites with his team of operatives to track down a missing portable nuclear device. Obviously this is only a job that Bruce Willis can get done.

The Hoeber brothers have returned to direct Red 2 with an impressive supporting cast including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Anthony Hopkins, Brian Cox, and Neal McDonough. Now that the sequel is weeks away from hitting theaters, Liongate and Summit are being proactive about getting a Red 3 off the ground, seeing as old guys doing funny stuff is doing well these days. Mix that in with the action genre, and you have a recipe for a box office hit.

 According to sources, the studio is incredibly happy with early focus group reactions about Red 2 and because of this Lionsgate pushed the release date early to get the ball rolling from its original August date.  Although it will probably have some huge summer competition on July 19, we wouldn’t be surprised if immediate talks of Red 3 start to pick up after its first week of release.

Now that the mother of all mothers has been revealed on How I Met Your Mother, we’ll be seeing a lot more of her. Milioti was unmasked quite ceremoniously on the season finale last Monday, so in the wake of her reveal the actress just scored a pretty sweet gig as a series regular for its ninth and final season of the Carter Bays co-created sitcom.

For eight years fans of the How I Met Your Mother show have been anticipating the reveal of the mother, and now that we have her it’s not going to be a barely there glimpse before the show ends. Bays revealed that not only will we see more of Milioti as the mother, but we’ll be able to find out more about her before Ted (her future husband) will. For season nine Bays revealed that the whole season will focus on the weekend of the wedding between Barney and Robin, and if you’ve been paying attention then you know that Ted meets her at the wedding. However, the remaining season will focus on how each character comes to know Ted’s wife and the mother of his children before he does, which positions a very clever story-telling dynamic for the writers.

Throughout the years Ted has been giving his children and essentially the audience, little clues about the mother from her yellow umbrella that he had unknowingly picked up and returned, to the fact that she plays bass for a band. Now it’s believed that we all will finally get to know the mother on a deeper level, so when Ted finally meets her the star-crossed lover look on his face will be completely appropriate in the minds of the viewer. Does that sound like too much pressure on one character? Well, Milioti would agree, kind of. Bays said of the actress’ arrival: “I kind of felt bad for Cristin because it was really like Jesus has risen when she showed up on the set — the whole crew was like ‘Here she is, the women we’ve been waiting for for 10 years!’ And she’s like, ‘I’m just an actor.’”

For those naysayers out there, Bays has all the faith in the world that Cristin Milioti is the girl to root for, saying:

“It was a pretty big umbrella to fill and yet Cristin is, against all odds, exactly what we were looking for. She made us laugh on 30 Rock, she made us swoon in Once, and her ukulele skills are no joke.”

‘How I Met Your Mother’s’ ‘Mom’ Cristin Milioti Is Promoted To Series Regular is a post from: The Inquisitr

When it was announced that Bill Hader was leaving his eight-year run on Saturday Night Live, fans of both the show were conflicted. Some were in shock and never thought this day would come, and the others saw the writing on the wall once series favorites like Andy Samberg and Kristen Wiig left last season.

After the initial reaction wore off the next question became what would happen to Hader’s legendary characters? Would they retire with the other fantastic impersonations of comedians past? Or would they relive in another medium? In the past many SNL players have milked their characters for films during their run on SNL. Most recently Will Forte in his MacGyver-like character McGruber. Would Bill Hader follow with his most beloved character Stefon?

The answer is absolutely not. On the heels of his announcement, Hader sat down with GQ to discuss his next steps, and one of them does not involve making a Stefon film. When asked about the potential of a Stefon spin off, he explained why the film wouldn’t work:

“There’s no emotional through line. Sometimes people say to me “I want a Stefon movie” and I’m like, you think you want a Stefon movie but then you’ll see the poster for it and think: “Wait, I don’t want this.”

Hader does have a point. For those of you not in the know, Stefon is a comical take on a stereotypical local scene kid, who enjoys raves, outrageous parties in bizarre locations, drastic gelled haircuts, boys, and black nail polish. Every location he talks to Seth Meyers about on Weekend Update is fresh, hot, or fantastic. Every restaurant or rave he goes to is just the absolute best thing of his life at that moment. In fact, it’s safe to say the character just lives in the moment, so we can imagine a Stefon film would be one messed up, possibly drugged up experience in a rave that tells a five minute story and stretches it to an hour and a half. While it felt good in a retelling for his sketches, we don’t think it would translate well to the big screen either.

On writing such a fierce character, Hader said:

“We have this great writing staff, let’s see if they can help us. Club takes place in a soup can or a church, not really funny, what could it be? and someone will say ‘what about a disabled submarine?’ and John goes ‘on a diaper’ and I’m like ‘yeah, on a diaper, that’s it.’

Fast & Furious 6 hasn’t even hit theaters yet, but we’re guessing the projected numbers are high enough that more development has been made on the next Fast & Furious chapter. Its star, Vin Diesel, who has been in five of the six completed Fast & Furious films is locked for Fast & Furious 7 with co-star Paul Walker.

For the current film the crew spent their time in London and Spain, that makes Diesel one heck of a jet-setter even though his character Dominic Toretto is all about being on the road. During promotion for the current installment Diesel let people in on the location for the next film.

Diesel said the “family” will be going head to head with an enemy in Tokyo and the Middle East in the seventh installment. “We have a stint in Tokyo and there is the Middle East next, that could be interesting,” said Diesel.

Sounds like some awesome locations for the shoot, even if director Justin Lin is stepping aside as a director. It’s reported that James Wan of Saw wants to direct the Fast & Furious 7 film.

As some fans of the franchise might remember, the third Fast & Furious film was set in Tokyo and the events that transpire in the third film actually takes place after the last three films. If this all goes according to plan then the Fast & Furious 7 film will be beginning presumably where Tokyo Drift leaves off. Sure, it’s a little complicated for a franchise that’s rooted in girls, cars and muscular men, but it may just work.

As it is the Fast & Furious 7 film’s release date is already slated for July 11, 2014. Looks like we’ll be seeing Paul Walker and Vin Diesel in a lot of exotic locations for years to come. Are you excited for the upcoming sequels of the Fast & Furious franchise? Let us know what you think!

Vin Diesel Reveals Location Of ‘Fast & Furious 7′ is a post from: The Inquisitr

Scarlett Johansson is slowly proving that she’s more than a one trick pony. The Tony award winning actress, just ended her run as Maggie in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. So with film and theater under her belt, what’s next?

It’s reported that Johansson is set to make her directorial debut for the film Summer Crossing, which is an adaptation of Truman Capote’s first novel of the same title. It’s a brave choice going out the gate, but we have a feeling since she waited so long that this will be handled with care.

The novel, which was written by Capote in the 1940s but released in 2005 centers around a 17-year old debutante living in New York City in the year 1945. Said woman abandons the idea of staying with her family on vacation in France, and starts a romance with a Jewish parking lot attendant in the city instead. Its said that Playwright Tristine Skyler has already written the screenplay. As of right now the film is set to start filming in the summer.

Summer Crossing will be Johansson’s first time directing a feature length film. She got her feet wet in 2008 when she directed a short for the film New York, I Love You which starred The Following’s Kevin Bacon. However, Scarlett’s contribution was cut from the original film.

Perhaps Scarlett Johansson has learned a thing or two about directing from first-time director Joseph Gordon-Levitt who made his directorial debut at Sundance acting alongside Johansson in Don Jon.

In Joe’s film, the actress is opposite Gordon-Levitt, as she plays one half of a doomed relationship. For her own directorial debut in Summer Crossing its not yet known whether she too will pull both duties of acting and directing. Either way it seems like a great albeit challenging piece to direct.

When Ain’t Them Bodies Saints debuted at the Sundance Film Festival, it worked its way up as an audience favorite throughout its run. Now that IFC has it under its belt and ready for an August 16th release, the first clip starring Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara has hit the web.

The official synopsis reads as follows:

“Set against the backdrop of 1970′s Texas Hill Country, AIN’T THEM BODIES SAINTS is a romantic American story that follows three characters on various sides of the law – outlaw Bob Muldoon (Casey Affleck), his wife Ruth Guthrie (Rooney Mara), and a local sheriff named Patrick Wheeler (Ben Foster), who gets caught in their crosshairs.”

For director David Lowery, who also wrote the film, this is his second feature film. The film was developed at the Sundance Institute’s Writing and Producing Labs. In addition to Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara, the film also stars Ben Foster, Keith Carradine, Nate Parker, Rami Malek, Kennadie Smith and David Zellner.

The clip below sees the opening scene from the film with its stars Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara having an intense fight. Their back and forth is palpable and certainly relatable as they pull and tug through their insecurities of being without each other. In the clip, Mara is specifically vulnerable as she asks if Affleck plans to leave her after hearing news that he’s going out on his own.

When Affleck realizes the misunderstanding, he becomes amused and dead-set on convincing Mara that her worst fears are wrong. The scene is framed beautifully with the natural light of the sun capturing the two figures in the argument.

An early review of Ain’t Them Bodies Saints briefly discusses the direction of the film: “Director and writer David Lowery avoids every cliche from the action-thriller, romance and noir handbooks, transmitting a palpable sense of the pain caused by forced absence from a loved one. He tightens the angst through deft pacing, avoiding any jailbreaks, high-speed car chases and shootouts, and instead making us feel the anxiety of waiting. That makes the very occasional moments of fierce, furious action even more endorphin-packed.”

Ain’t Them Bodies Saints opens in theaters August 16, 2013.

‘Ain’t Them Bodies Saints’ Debuts First Clip With Casey Affleck [Video] is a post from: The Inquisitr

First there was the wolf pack in The Hangover and now the old timers are getting their own Hangover-esque adventure. Months ago we debuted the synopsis for Last Vegas, the film that sees Morgan Freeman, Kevin Kline, Robert DeNiro and Michael Douglas rolling the dice for a boys only weekend.

Now we have the first exclusive teaser trailer that sees the guys getting a little loopy. The first trailer shows the men gathering in Las Vegas on the heels of Kevin Kline’s character nuptials. The four men promise they’re going to party like it’s 1959, but it looks like we shouldn’t expect any bobbysoxers in this one.

Instead the men find themselves involved in some crazy hi-jinks and in one scene it looks like they waltz into a true MTV spring break situation. From the trailer we can gather that the guys will have their share of barely legal women, booze, and gambling — all things that are synonymous with Las Vegas.

It’s harmless fun for these guys and it looks like a great time at the movies. Directed by Jon Turteltaub of National Treasure fame, the film looks like a huge hit in the making, mainly because it has as much comedic value as watching one’s grandpa get drunk. Really, who can resist watching Freeman get his vodka and redbull on? It sounds like it could be a separate film all by itself.

Hopefully Freeman’s comedic and uncensored performance will dispel those pesky death rumors that seem to crop up every few months. Speaking about his death hoax, Freeman mentioned his time in Las Vegas while filming the comedy: “I did go to Las Vegas to begin work on the film Last Vegas. That is anything but a death sentence.”

Morgan Freeman Gets His Drink On In ‘Last Vegas’ [Video] is a post from: The Inquisitr

Years ago Gerard Butler and action were synonymous. There wasn’t an action film that came to mind that didn’t have Butler’s name on a short list of potential leads. Now he’s been second string for awhile. Hopefully his new flick The Raven will put him back on short list for the action genre.

Butler is reportedly replacing Liam Hemsworth in the lead role for The Raven. The film began as a short film in 2010, and was optioned for a feature length film with Mark Wahlberg, who was eventually succeeded by Liam Hemsworth, the latter is everyone’s current favorite action guy. Butler will play the lead role of Chris Black as a young man who is on the run from a robotic police force.

Back while Butler was promoting Olympus Has Fallen he had this to say about his familiarity with action films:

“I’ve done a lot of it and produced a couple of movies that were about violent reactions, like Law Abiding Citizen and 300. I didn’t produce 300, I wish I’d f—ing produced 300! [The room bursts into laughter] So it was amazing how in cahoots and how co-ordinated Antoine and I were about creating this project, because when I first got the script the second that C130 flies in and you go, “Oh, wait a minute what have I gotten myself into here!”

While he’s still in some action films, his luck has since fizzled as far as the critics are concerned. Olympus Has Fallen was lambasted by critics, but it did fairly well in the box office by surpassing its estimates. Before that Butler was in the two dud films Chasing Mavericks and Playing For Keeps.

In addition the actor didn’t quite capture material that would blossom his skill as an actor and settled for more block buster worthy films and random romcoms opposite Jennifer Aniston and Katherine Heigl. Let’s hope he scores both the box office buzz and meaty material with The Raven.

Gerard Butler Replaces Liam Hemsworth In Sci-Fi Action Flick ‘The Raven’ is a post from: The Inquisitr

Are you ready to see Samuel L. Jackson in another action comedy? Get ready. Word out of the Cannes Film Festival is that a new action comedy starring Samuel L. Jackson alongside Hailee Steinfeld is being shopped around. RKO Pictures is calling the film Barely Lethal, and this makes this film the third Samuel L. Jackson project that’s currently being shopped around at Cannes Film Festival.

The other Jackson related projects being shopped at Cannes is a live-action remake of a Japanese anime film Kite, which just completed filming, and the hunting movie titled Big Game. For his latest film Barely Lethal, will see Samuel L. Jackson opposite Hailee Steinfeld.

Barely Lethal’s official synopsis reads as follows:

“The action-comedy is described as a playful, high-velocity romp in which a 16-year-old international assassin (Hailee Steinfeld) yearning for “normal” adolescence fakes her own death and enrolls in a suburban high school. When her former-employer (Jackson) comes calling, it becomes more than any teenager can handle.”

Kyle Newman, director of Fanboys and TV series The Crazies will direct the film, from John D’Arco’s script. It seems that this isn’t the only familiar premise. Recently the Equalizer reboot saw Denzel Washington up against Chloe Moretz, and Will Smith’s Warner Bros project Focus originally saw him against Kristen Stewart as con artists. Looks like Samuel L. Jackson wanted to get in on the older wiser man versus young female ingenue. However, since this film seems like a comedy it looks like it may take off in the front of all the other films.

Samuel L. Jackson has been keeping very busy as of late. Right now the actor is filming Dreamworks’ Turbo, and is reprising his role in Captain America as Nick Fury, which will also earn him his own spin-off film titled Nick Fury.

Are you ready to hear the phrase “home skillet” or anything else from the vernacular of Diablo Cody on a daily basis? If your answer is no then you might want to avoid your television, as it’s being reported that the writer of Juno may get her own talk show.

During the TBS upfronts, the network announced that they are developing a show called Me Time With Diablo Cody, which will follow Conan’s show. Although the talk show is said to be in its early stages, it already has a niche. The show will “look at pop culture and Hollywood with Cody’s perspective.”

For Diablo Cody it doesn’t seem that strange. Since winning an Oscar for the screenplay of Juno, the writer has gone on to pen Showtime’s short lived series The United States of Tara, which saw Toni Collette battle her dissociative identity disorder and family life. One of the said personalities was a redneck, hunting loving beer guzzling of a man named Buck. If Cody gets this gig we can at least hope we’ll have more of that quirkiness for her show.

Cody isn’t the only writer turned host. Conan O’Brien got the coveted position nearly two decades ago, but before then he was a writer for The Simpsons and Saturday Night Live. Later proving that the formula actually works, Saturday Night Live performer Jimmy Fallon followed the path and is now taking over Jay Leno’s role as host for The Tonight Show. While Cody didn’t start her writing career on Saturday Night Live, her unique brand of comedy has proved to earn some fans.

In addition to attracting internet haters, and shocking people with her tell-all blog entries, Cody hosted a web series chat show called Red Band Trailer, which apparently acted as a good test for her latest gig at TBS. While it wasn’t said if her new talk show will go to series, it might be an interesting fit.

When you hear the names Chris Pine and Jake Gyllenhaal one doesn’t automatically think of a great musical duo , but that’s about to change. The two have been cast as the princes in the musical film adaptation of Into the Woods.

According to the report, the two actors have done a chemistry test for director Rob Marshall who is currently prepping an adaptation for Disney. During the test the two also sang together. Those who aren’t aware of the roles, Gyllenhaal and Pine are set to play two egotistical and pompous princes who romance Cinderella and Rapunzel. Compared to early sign-ons Meryl Streep, who will play the Witch, and Johnny Depp as the wolf, they aren’t huge roles, but if played right they could steal the whole film. Pine is set to play Rapunzel’s Prince, while Gyllenhaal will play Cinderella’s Prince.

Although they tested together, the two actors have never sung on the big screen before. All we have for evidence of Gyllenhaal’s singing chops is an opening monologue from 2006′s Saturday Night Live, that sees him playing on the then popular musical to film adaptation Dreamgirls.

During the opening monologue Gyllenhaal sang “And I’m Telling You,” which eventually went on to win Jennifer Hudson an Oscar for the role of Effie. As for Pine we haven’t seen him sing at all, so we’re hoping he’s hiding some serious singing chops. If not, the two roles could be played comically as the princes spend most of the time during the production trying to “out-prince” each other.

In addition to Meryl Streep and Johnny Depp, Pine and Gyllenhaal will join Anna Kendrick, Nina Arianda, and Allison Janney. It’s a huge cast, but one that certainly deserves an iconic cast. The American Playhouse version of Into the Woods saw Broadway heavyweights Bernadette Peters, Chip Zien, Joanna Gleason, Tom Aldredge and Robert Westenberg.

We think Gyllenhaal and Pine certainly have the right looks for the roles, but we’re hoping they can follow up with a great rendition of their duet “Agony.”

It’s been a while since we’ve heard about Kanye West cutting loose on the mic. That was changed last night at the Roseland Ballroom where the rapper performed for the Adult Swim upfront party. West proved that he doesn’t care if he has an audience of teens or advertising executives — he’s going to be himself in every context.

One thing Kanye claims he’s not? A celebrity. Okay, let us clarify, it seems like West knows he’s a celebrity, and how can he not, when he’s traipsing all over town with Kim Kardashian who has built her own empire around the idea of celebrity. However, during the tail end of his performance of “Runaway” a hit off of his album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, the rapper admitted that he’s “a terrible, terrible, terrible celebrity. ”

During the performance he ordered for the bass on the track to be lowered, and went into a rant of sermon proportions. For a full three minutes the advertising executives, suit and ties and all, entered unknowingly into the church of Kanye West. While West said he was a terrible celebrity, his reasoning for that is because he “makes real music.” One could argue that it’s the rapper having breakdown moments such as the one at Roseland that makes him a “terrible” celebrity.

It’s obvious to see that West isn’t cut out for the unwanted demands inherited when pushed into the public light. Touching on his well documented relationship with Kim Kardashian, West said, “I don’t want anybody running up on me with no cameras, trying to sell pictures for their magazines, or asking me dumba– questions and throwing me off of my focus, and harassing me all f–king day. No, no, no, it’s not me.”

During his rant West mentioned his upcoming appearance on Saturday Night Live. According to West, someone asked him about parttaking in a sketch that would poke fun at his image. West wasn’t having any of that, and addressed why he wouldn’t, having said, “Someone asked me are you gonna do a skit about the paparazzi and humanize yourself? It ain’t about me humanizing myself. At what point did I become unhuman that I have to turn around and humanize myself?” West continued, “Maybe I was demonized. I ain’t running for office. I’m not kissing no mother f—ing babies.”

After his rant West continued his set and appeared to be unfazed. What’s your opinion on Kanye West’s rant?

There was a time when Rachel McAdams was considered a fresh new face with a promising talent. All she had to do was pick the right projects after she succeeded in hits like Mean Girls and The Notebook. Flash forward a few years later and we have yet another half-baked romcom from McAdams.

This time the actress goes in for her second time traveling film. Her second time traveling film is set for About Time. A film which puts her opposite Domhnall Gleeson.

About Time, which will be released by Universal studios on November 1 released this official synopsis a while back:

“At the age of 21, Tim Lake (Domhnall Gleeson) discovers he can travel in time… The night after another unsatisfactory New Year party, Tim’s father (Bill Nighy) tells his son that the men in his family have always had the ability to travel through time. Tim can’t change history, but he can change what happens and has happened in his own life—so he decides to make his world a better place…by getting a girlfriend.”

Yawn. We can see where this one goes. Her first time traveling romcom was the 2009 flop The Time Traveler’s Wife. McAdams seemed to have tried to escape romcoms for at least a minute or two for a small role in Terrence Malick’s To The Wonder, but this film certainly won’t help her wilting presence in Hollywood.

Fortunately for McAdams, who does show tremendous skills when she’s given the chance, this will be her last romcom for a bit. After About Time she will be seen in a new thriller titled A Most Wanted Man starring Robin Wright, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Willem Dafoe . Currently McAdams’ latest project an Untitled Cameron Crowe film is in pre-production. The film will see McAdams alongside Bradley Cooper and Emma Stone. While not much is known about the project it does promise romance, action, and comedy, and two of these genre Cameron Crowe can pull off decently. Let’s hope it’s more Almost Famous than it is Elizabethtown.

Rachel McAdams Time Travels In ‘About Time’ Trailer is a post from: The Inquisitr

The only thing as predictable as Ryan Gosling’s bankability, is the boasting by directors insisting that they share the same brain with the star. Our guess is to ensure success where it counts. The latest is Drive and Only God Forgives collaborator Nicolas Winding Refn who seems to have struck gold twice with Gosling and wants in on a third time.

“Ryan and I are practically one,” says the press notes for their upcoming film Only God Forgives, and according to reports Refn and Gosling are desperate to team up for a third time “as one” for a comedy.

So far Gosling has excelled in both comedy and drama. The actor has starred in Crazy Stupid Love and Lars & The Real Girl, while one is a straight comedy, the other is a dark comedy, so this project can go either way as far as Gosling lending his talents is concerned. However, something tells us their project will be a little dark. For Refn, whose films are violent noirs, this might be a stretch, but with Gosling under his belt it may be a seamless transition.

The two almost worked together a third time before. Last year both were slated to start production of Logan’s Run, but Gosling dropped out. At the time there was only a mysterious tweet from Variety, but then nothing else was said of it. Refn said of the film that it’s “on hold.” However, the director isn’t just waiting around for Gosling’s schedule to clear up, he’s just as busy as the actor.

Refn is attached to the film Barbarella, which he is producing and directing, and that’s said to take up his schedule for early 2014. If you’re thinking that Gosling will be involved in the TV adapted film, think again. Although, “We did toy with the idea of what Ryan would look like in a catsuit,” he joked.

For many women Zoe Saldana was considered to be living the dream as the woman behind Bradley Cooper. The pair dated on and off for about a year before they both decided to call it quits. Apparently Bradley Cooper made some kind of impression because now the stunning actress is convinced she may just turn to women.

Saldana opened up this month to Allure magazine about her love life while promoting her new film Star Trek Into The Darkness. After dating Cooper she considers her options of raising a family with a women. “[I might] end up with a woman raising my children. That’s how androgynous I am.”

While Cooper and Saldana were mum on the reason for their split, it’s obvious the Silver Linings Playbook actor made an impact on Saldana. When asked about dating other actors, Zoe claims that she’s over dating people in the business. After a little probing by the magazine, Saldana says, “Been there, done that, got the T-shirt.”

Her desire to maybe raise her children with another woman was turned on its head during an interview with InStyle magazine. The 34-year-old told the magazine, “I worship men. Men are Adonises.” The actress continued on, “I believe in love because I had it for so long, so I know it’s possible.”

Before her relationship with Bradley Cooper the Avatar star dated entrepreneur Keith Britton for 11 years. Saldana continues, “I’m not one of these people who’s going, ‘Oh, because I was with someone for so long I need to take a break.’ What if love is just around the corner?”

So is Zoe Saldana really just flirting with the idea of ending up with a women in the end? It seems like the “in” thing to do these days. What do you think? Is Zoe Saldana just making a quick joke about her love life?

Zoe Saldana Might Turn To Women After Bradley Cooper Romance Fizzles is a post from: The Inquisitr

We’ve heard the early praise for the already Oscar no-brainer flick Fruitvale Station, and now we have our first trailer for the film. We can now confidently say that it certainly doesn’t disappoint. It has the promise of Oscar written all over it, but not in the stereotypical often contrived way one would suspect. There’s no dramatic swell of music, or a quick cut-to shots of famous faces, although Octavia Spencer is in this one too.

Fruitvale Station in many ways feels like The Weinstein Brothers dark horse. Sure it’s a true story, which the academy seems to love these days, but it’s not pandering that fact to voters (at least not yet.) It remains gritty and grounded in its first trailer, which is what we expected just by going from the art-centered poster that was released last week.

The Sundance winner’s trailer features its star Michael B. Jordan, a young father living in not the best of neighborhoods as he tries to provide for his family. The film, which takes place on New Year’s Eve 2008, tells a tragic true story of a 22-year-old man Oscar Grant, who is gunned down and killed by cops after being pulled off of a rowdy BART train at the Fruitvale station. Grant’s injuries were severe enough that he died from his wounds.

The trailer hits in a very powerful way. Thankfully the production chose not to show the pivotal moment of the film, and instead chose to leave us with a series of tense moments as things are seen quickly escalating on the BART train. The impact is plenty for the tension-filled trailer.

Earlier in the year the film went on to take the Grand Jury Prize and Dramatic Audience Award during the Sundance Film Festival. Since then actor Michael B. Jordan has been earning rave reviews.

‘Fruitvale Station’ Releases Gritty First Trailer is a post from: The Inquisitr

Director Joe Wright has decided to end his bid to direct the erotica adaptation Fifty Shades of Grey. Looks like this production is having an incredibly fast turnover rate. Last week it was reported that Gus Van Sant was reportedly out, which was odd considering he was the front runner and then Joe Wright emerged out of nowhere.

Van Sant has gone as far as shooting a test with actor Alex Pettyfer but it was reported the studio passed and Wright was looking more like the guy each day. According to Deadline, those reports might have been a little too premature. Although Wright, who is best known for his film Atonement, was in the mix to direct, it wasn’t a lock like everyone expected. The director had to bow out due to scheduling.

There’s no word on whether Gus Van Sant is truly out of the race to direct, but directors Bennett Miller (Moneyball) and TV director Patty Jenkins (Entourage) are certainly in the mix.

So far the only two things that are set in stone is that Kelly Marcel is penning the script, and Universal and Focus Features are both heading up the project.

As far as actors who are currently in the lead to portray the ultra cool BDSM-loving Christian Grey and innocent sex slave Anastasia Steele, there’s no one that seems to be impressing any casting directors yet. However things still seem to be incredibly early for this project and there’s no official word if anyone has been seen for either role. The only glimpse we have into casting is that Pettyfer has tested, but it’s not known what the studio thinks of him or Gus Van Sant’s direction of the tape.

The last bit of development we had was the announcement back in October that Kelly Marcel has been chosen to adapt the book. Perhaps now that Universal has wrapped up their lawsuit with a porn production that was set to rip off the film, we’ll get somewhere with this film?

Director Joe Wright Drops Out Of ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ Race is a post from: The Inquisitr

Bill Hader is exiting stage left after this season of Saturday Night Live wraps up on May 18. Hader’s exit shouldn’t come as a huge surprise. The comedian has been on Saturday Night Live for eight seasons which is a typically long run these days.

Starting as a production assistant on the set of the 2001 film James Dean, he started out making sandwiches for actor James Franco. During his tenure on Saturday Night Live Hader  brought us beloved characters and impersonations such as Stefon, Vincent Price, and old man reporter Herb Welch. The comedian has spent years as a bright light in some dull seasons on Saturday Night Live. At the height of its comedy this generation Hader established himself alongside fan favorites like Kristen Wiig and Andy Sandberg, and later on was the saving grace this year when the show saw an overhaul in comics.

Announcing to the press of his departure, Hader said: “It was a hard decision, but it has to happen at some point. It got to a point where I said, ‘Maybe it’s just time to go.”

Hader started his time at SNL has a featured player in 2005, but quickly was promoted to a full cast member in 2006. The first year is usually a sink or swim year for players and Hader quickly rose to the top. His success hasn’t just been with his characters, but in how he’s been recognized in the industry. Like most cast members Hader branched out into films, but all of his turns succeeded unlike some SNL alums (see: Chris Kattan and Molly Shannon.) Over the years Hader scored roles in Tropic Thunder, Superbad, Pineapple Express, Men in Black 3, and even won an Emmy nomination for supporting actor in a comedy series for SNL.

For executive producer of Saturday Night Live Lorne Michaels, Bill Hader made an impression right away. The producer spoke about the first time he saw Hader perform in Los Angeles, and was instantly reminded of Dan Aykroyd.  ”In terms of intelligence and talent, he was in that same tradition. He was so completely committed to the art of it and enough a student of it that there’s something strikingly original. He didn’t explode onto the air, but gradually he found his voice, and that became a huge thing.”

Other members leaving Saturday Night Live include Seth Meyers, who’s replacing Jimmy Fallon in the Late Night spot, and regulars like Fred Armisen and Jason Sudeikis might exit as well.

Throughout decades of hailed rock Gods and their musical counterparts, arguably the most powerful collaborative relationship bloomed in the spring of ’91 between Captain Beefheart guitarist Gary Lucas and a floppy haired unknown Jeff Buckley. The two met in rehearsals for a tribute concert for Buckley’s late father Tim, which took place in St. Ann’s Trinity on April 26th in 1991.  After it was suggested by concert producer Hal Willner, Lucas accompanied Jeff on “Sefronia: The King’s Chain.”

The two parted ways but improvised fate brought them together later in 1991 after both men experienced failed music projects.  A wide-eyed and slightly unaware Buckley joined Lucas’ band Gods and Monsters as lead singer and later on  as a rhythm guitarist. Following his year run with the band, Buckley embarked on a solo career. What would undoubtedly shape the center of Lucas’ career and Buckley’s posthumous musical heritage was the experimental sound the two created. Of the dozens of songs the two collaborated on, the  two tracks that made Buckley’s widely celebrated album “Grace” featured Lucas’ sprawling guitar on the opening track “Mojo Pin” and  “Grace” for which the album was named after.

Since then Lucas has captured his own musical locomotive. After Buckley’s death Lucas released over twenty albums as a guitarist and composer via small labels. Throughout his career Lucas has accompanied many vocalists, among them rocker Chris Cornell and Jazz musician Bryan Ferry.  Although most would remember the golden year of Gods and Monsters with Buckley, the band continues on as a super group with Billy Ficca from Television. In addition to creating his own work he has kept his collaborations with Buckley alive for the fans. He is currently embarking on a European solo tour with select dates in Paris, Slovenia, Venice, and Vienna.

While many authors have released books on Jeff Buckley’s legacy, Gary Lucas penned his own book titled Touched By Grace, set to release in the fall of 2013. Lucas spoke with The Inquisitr’s Niki Cruz about his collaborative experience with Jeff Buckley, Greetings From Tim Buckley and his early impressions of a would-be rock legend.

THE INQUISITR: Everyone has this very different romantic narrative of Jeff Buckley. When Greetings From Tim Buckley came out it seemed like it wanted to set out to dispel all of those narratives.  Why do you think people have those romantic notions about Jeff?

GARY LUCAS: I think a lot of it is because there’s such purity about his voice, and his persona. He was a beautiful boy, and then to die tragically at a young age like that makes for a very romantic story. It framed his career in a sad, but very noble way. It positioned him in people’s minds as a bit of an icon.  Had he continued and put 20 records out it may not have been the same. I’m sure he would have been widely hailed and recognized but just by the fact of dying so early on and in such a tragic manner, it sealed the legend about him.

THE INQUISITR: Steve Berkowitz from Sony said his label was preparing him to be the next Bruce Springsteen.

LUCAS: Right. At that point I was out of the picture as far as actively working with him. We had this intense year of doing shows and writing songs. The world at large knows “Grace” and “Mojo Pin” because the “Grace” album was named after one of the songs, and “Mojo Pin” opens the record. In fact, it’s my guitar in the clear that you can hear in “Mojo Pin”. Jeff’s potential was undeniable to these executives. The comparisons are sometimes a drag because it tends to raise expectations, and in no way did he live up to their commercial expectations, but that isn’t to say that he wouldn’t have.

THE INQUISITR: There’s so many impressions of Jeff as a musician. I spoke with Penn [Badgley] and he looked at him as an interpreter. What was your first impression?

LUCAS: I went down to St. Ann’s church in the rehearsal period a couple of days before the show, to rehearse with the singer I was then signed with to Columbia Records. We did our songs in a run through and then I was packing up my gear and this kid comes up to me.  Right away I said, “This must be Jeff Buckley” because he was the spitting image of his dad. He was shooting off sparks of electricity. My impression is that he was a very entranced young man. He was very single-minded and he knew what he wanted.

THE INQUISITR: So what happened next?

LUCAS: The producer of that concert Hal Willner, very well portrayed by Norbert Leo Butz said, “Well why don’t you do Sefronia from The King’s Chain?” That was one of the last Tim Buckley records.  I handed him the mic to begin singing and my jaw dropped when I heard this unearthly pure voice wailing.  I said, “Oh my God, man you’re f–king amazing! You’re a star!”  He seemed insecure then and lacked a lot of self-confidence. We had lunch at The White Horse Tavern in the Village. At lunch we agreed we adored The Smiths, Led Zeppelin and The Doors. So I said, “I have this group called Gods and Monsters and I’m making this record, maybe I can get you on it.”  I could tell he was a rocker. We started writing and we loved playing together.

THE INQUISITR: Did any of the other guys have reservations about Jeff coming into Gods and Monsters?

LUCAS: At that point the band was basically me and the female singer and we weren’t really actively gigging. I went to Europe right after I met Jeff on a very lengthy solo tour that The Knitting Factory set up. When I came back I had found that Columbia had dropped the whole Gods and Monsters deal.  Jeff had moved back to LA. Things weren’t going so well for him and he was trying to get a deal. He had this tape called the “Babylon Dungeon Sessions.” On there was an early version of “Last Goodbye,” but no labels wanted it. I called him up and said, “My deal is over with Columbia Records, they kicked me to the curb.” He said, “I’ll be your lead singer.” He was my savior at that point. With that energy I finished writing a guitar instrumental called “Rise Up To Be,” and Jeff loved it and came back to New York that summer and said, “This song is now called Grace.”

THE INQUISITR: With such an interesting dynamic, do you think his music influenced you or your music influenced his?

LUCAS: I would say in all modesty that I did have an influence on him, certainly in his guitar playing.  He was a gifted guitarist already, so this is not to take away from it. But on guitar I don’t think he showed me anything I didn’t already know. I think as far as what he influenced me directly, he reinforced the notion that collaboration could be greater than the sum of equal parts.  He influenced me in his general sensitivity. It was very rare to find such a person attuned to so many nuances about music. We definitely influenced each other. When we ran together the first year, we were unbeatable.

THE INQUISITR: So Gods and Monsters with Jeff Buckley only lasted for that year.

LUCAS: Yes. We got this development deal with Imago records through the BMG label. Let’s just say it didn’t work out ultimately. He had a burning ambition underneath whatever pledge he made to me, to go solo. I’ve got to say I have tapes of our Imago public showcase,  and we got a standing ovation for three or four minutes after we finished this two and a half hour marathon concert. I was listening to the playback of the tape with my wife the next day, jumping up and down saying, “Oh man, Jeff sang his ass off!”  And then he called me up to tell me that he was quitting.

THE INQUISITR: How were you approached for the film?

LUCAS: This is interesting. My wife is a casting director. She worked on a lot of films. I came back from a tour and she said, “Listen, I just got a hold of a couple of scripts about Jeff, and you’re not going to like some of this.” [She then said,] “But listen I just got sent another script, and there’s another film. It looks like that film is really going to get made.” So I read it and I thought it was a very good portrayal. I reached out to them and told them that I was really excited. They called me in and asked if I could help. I basically became a consultant on the film. If you look closely in a couple of shots near the end in the church, there’s a group of musicians standing around Jeff doing “Phantasmagoria in Two” as we were playing there live– that is me standing back there but I was keeping my head down.

THE INQUISITR: Do you think Penn captures Jeff’s essence?

LUCAS: I think Penn was the ideal choice to play Jeff Buckley. He was born for this role. He reminded me so much of Jeff, I got chills.  He got the nuances, he got the brooding, and he scared me a couple of times. He wouldn’t go out of character, and we would break and I tried to talk with him and he would give me these looks like Jeff. He was exactly the same age as Jeff was when I worked with Jeff, who was 24, and he’s a Scorpio like Jeff.  He has real vocal ability and guitar skills.

THE INQUISITR: Some people compared Jeff to a young Jim Carrey. Did you get to see that massive goofball energy that Jeff had? In some of those early live performances he seemed withdrawn.

LUCAS: He could be really extroverted, and funny, and manic, and just a bit goofy. I saw it. He certainly had a lot of sides to him. I thought the scene in the record store with Penn was great. Jeff was certainly capable of doing stuff like that. Penn nailed it.

THE INQUISITR: I’ve always wondered where his music was going to go next. Although it wasn’t entirely completed, you could hear on “Sketches For My Sweeheart The Drunk” that he was going in a completely opposite direction from “Grace”. Do you think there would have been room for his music in the industry?

LUCAS: It’s hard to say. There were some songs on “Sketches” I liked a lot. I did find the demos that they put on the second album to be extremely painful and hard to listen to. I can tell you that Jeff asked me for music in the last year of his life. I got a phone call from him and he said, “Remember those great songs we did? Do you have any more like that?” I said, “Yeah I got some music I just wrote in Puerto Rico.” So I sent him an instrumental and he said, “It’s beautiful–do you have any more?” Then he never got back to me. I did play with him a month or two before he died at The Knitting Factory.  He was their special guest on their private 10th anniversary party, and it was packed.

THE INQUISITR: I have The Knitting Factory bootleg!

LUCAS: Yeah! So in it he asks, “If Gary Lucas isn’t still mad at me would he like to play a song?” So I go up and ask, “Well, what are we going to do?” And he hands me his Telecaster and says, “Grace, of course.” I thought to myself, “Man, I still really love this guy.”  I was not to know that that would in fact be closure– as that was the last time I ever saw him.

THE INQUISITR: It’s fascinating just how relevant “Grace” is today. “Last Goodbye” was just played on the show Smash.  Why do you think it’s timeless?

LUCAS: Jeff wasn’t following any fashion. It’s the same with my music. I just made the music that satisfied me first and foremost and Jeff  had the same approach. I always have sort of made my own personal aesthetic my creed as a composer. I want to write music that I think is memorable. That is how “Grace” and “Mojo Pin” got created. Just roll the dice.

THE INQUISITR: In many ways the songs on “Grace” changed the way I looked at music.

LUCAS: That’s great. This is one thing I still get a kick out of. People coming forward to say: “Man, I heard your song with Jeff and it just changed my whole attitude around.” I’ve had people come up with all sorts of great feedback, and that’s why I’ve hung in there doing this all these years. It’s about being able to light a fire in somebody. I’m proud of that music.

THE INQUISITR: As a musician, where do you see your own path going?

LUCAS: I’m going to continue to do as much as I can. I only do projects where I’m really excited about the music, and I have a lot of music in me still. I just want to continue on the path that I’m on. Gods And Monsters put out an album two years ago called “The Ordeal of Civility” that did pretty well in the critical sense. I hope to do more with them.

From the very beginning Baz Luhrmann’s production of The Great Gatsby promises an epic visual spectacle, and because of his unique vision he delivers on a level like no other. That said, if you’re hoping The Great Gatsby lives up to what some deem to be the greatest American novel in history, then don’t bother with Luhrmann’s latest flick. Once you look past the visual spectacle of bombastic sounds and vibrant colors, one is bound to be dissatisfied with the empty structure Luhrmann’s production has left for the viewer to piece together.

The plot to The Great Gatsby is simple and its set up doesn’t deviate from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel.  The roaring twenties is in full bloom, and our narrator Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) has just moved to New York City during the summer of 1922. Across the way is the elusive war vet known simply as Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio), a would-be millionaire that throws lavish parties for all. He has the clothes, the best entertainers, and the most decadent in home design. Setting him apart from the world of excess in wealth, once Carraway receives an invite to said party and indulges in Gatsby’s lifestyle; he brings forth an observant role to his surroundings.  Carraway’s cousin Daisy (Carey Mulligan) is in a constricting marriage to old money man Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton) but has a past with the mysterious Gatsby that ultimately reveals the millionaire to all parties involved as nothing more than a facade.

The same could be said about Luhrmann’s ultimate vision of The Great Gatsby. By not twisting any concrete plot details to the film, Luhrmann gives off the illusion that he’s done a solid job with directing a true to story adaptation, but it’s misleading. The hyper-glossed visuals oftentimes so excessive, the film looks like it was put through a Gaussian filter for Instagram lovers. While that could impress the millennial generation, all it really does is mask the fact that there’s no bones outside of the basic skeleton Luhrmann has to work with. The moral of the story about how prominent the strife was to capture the American dream is to people of this era completely escapes Luhrmann’s film. Instead his film acts as mental masturbation, by swallowing the story up in an artificial world universally celebrated by the characters. Sure it all looks spectacular but it does nothing to flesh the story out.

When the actors are given something to do most of them succeed. Leonardo DiCaprio is the perfect Jay Gatsby, and has one of the best climatic introductions of any film. The build up to his character is certainly climatic, with Carraway narrating the wonder of who Gatsby really is in juxtaposition to the outside perspective of various illusive stereotypes that plague his image. Gatsby is a man who is said to have a smile that has “a quality of eternal reassurance” and as DiCaprio turns around with fireworks exploding behind his frame, you believe it. For DiCaprio, one could easily deduce that there’s something pulling him towards the character. Growing up in the industry and often being portrayed as different versions of himself proves to be a perfect fit for the pedestal Gatsby is perched on.  Seeing DiCaprio in the role of the deceiver isn’t something new for him, but in a few select scenes he emotes in ways we haven’t seen from him in a few years. One highlight of the film happens in a hotel room that sees all of the hidden relationships collide in an explosive way that is served by fantastic performances by both Edgerton and DiCaprio.

As far as performers that are essentially wasted, Isla Fisher’s character is completely thrown away and is just used as a plot device. It’s a shame as the actress has proved to be a dynamic personality on screen, and definitely one that could have suited Luhrmann’s world. The lowest of the low goes to Carey Mulligan who takes the role of the superficial, unhappy wife, and drapes herself lifelessly against the lavish sets. She’s all the glitz of Marilyn Monroe without the spark. In most scenes it’s a head scratcher to why Gatsby would go through all the trouble to create such an image for Mulligan’s Daisy.

The cartoonish world created for The Great Gatsby is a perfect fit for Tobey Maguire, who is surprisingly engaging as the narrator. On the flip side, the hip soundtrack used to modernize and offset the film completely distracts one from being truly taken with the world created from the twenties. For instance, when an antique car bumps to Jay-Z’s “H to The Izzo” it gets a huge laugh, but for all the wrong reasons. Its this kind of noncommittal by Luhrmann that makes The Great Gatsby dim in its overall luster.

In the late 90s when SLC Punk hit the stage it put its star Matthew Lillard on the map and became a cult classic. Reports are now in that SLC Punk is hoping to become a sequel.

If the studio really wanted to make a dollar or two off of SLC Punk, they should consider a complete reboot, but instead the original characters from the 1998 James Merendino film are all coming back. You know what’s cool about middle-aged punks? Nothing.

The original film is about two 1980s punks and the wild lives they live while nonconforming to the conservative morals of their Salt Lake City area. Back in the day it opened Sundance Film Festival and went on to score major success, making every must-see list of the 90s.

Reports are in that director James Merendino is looking to recapture the magic of SLC Punk for a film titled Punk’s Dead, which will act as a sequel that takes place in 2003. The film would see all of the surviving punks grown. In his announcement, Merendino goes on to explain:

“I made SLC Punk when I was a kid, and accordingly, the story is naive, and, as just a coming of age story, not finished. The characters are facing big questions, 18 years later, as outsiders, Punk rockers… What relevance do they have in a world where all statements have already been made?”

For us a sequel would absolutely ruin the enlightenment Matthew Lillard’s character has at the end of the film. Alas, the sequel to SLC Punk is quickly on its way to being another one of those films that’s trying to capitalize on its own success a decade or so two late.

The glimmer or curse about this whole project is that its original stars Matthew Lillard, Annabeth Gish, Devon Sawa, Til Schweiger, Chris McDonald, and Michael A. Goorjan are all in talks to return. According to the report we should have a casting confirmation relatively soon, which means we might be looking at a release date pretty soon.

With Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring set to make its official debut at Cannes Film Festival, the listing for its awesome soundtrack has just been made available.

The soundtrack proves to mesh well with the film. For instance, can you picture Emma Watson lifting jewels from celebrities homes as Kanye West’s “All Of The Lights” plays? So can we.

The Bling Ring’s exhaustively long soundtrack is anything but typical, packaged as an eclectic taste of bombastic sounds ranging from the aforementioned Kanye West to Phoenix, and Frank Ocean.

For Sofia Coppola this will be incredibly different from then what we’re used to seeing from her. The usually melancholy portraits her work often paints will be turned upside down for a crazy ride into the lives of celebrity thieves behaving badly all in the name of fortune and fame.

The official synopsis for The Bling Ring is listed as follows:
“A group of celebrity-fixated L.A. teens begin burglarizing the homes of the rich and famous in this crime drama directed by Sofia Coppola, and inspired by actual events. Will Rupert Sanders take over the director’s chair for the next Pirates Of The Caribbean sequel? Looks like Disney’s considering the Snow White And The Huntsman director big time.

We don’t know too much about the film, except for the fact that it has a 2015 release date. It’s safe to say that Disney wouldn’t dream of doing the film without an agreement from its star Johnny Depp, who has appeared in all four films, and has made a penny or two from the franchise.

With Depp being on board a complete no-brainer, Deadline is reporting that Disney really wants to keep their costs down. It’s suspected that Depp will demand a huge paycheck, seeing as he has earned a reportedly $300 million dollars for the films.

So how far away is Rupert Sanders from becoming the next director to take over the Pirates franchise? He’s pretty close. The studio is said to be looking at a short list that includes Fredrik Bond (The Necessary Death Of Charlie Countryman), and duo Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg.

According to the report producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s favorite is Fredrik Bond, but if anything Hollywood is all about politics, and despite Sanders scandal with star Kristen Stewart, Hollywood seems to love him.

As of right now Sanders is rumored to be attached to direct Van Helsing and The Juliet. Even though Snow White And The Huntsman was a box office success, if Sanders can direct Tom Cruise in the upcoming Van Helsing it seems promising that Disney would let him handle Johnny Depp in the new Pirates film.

In the past the Pirates films have been directed by Gore Verbinski and Rob Marshall, so there’s room to stick to the formula while keeping a fresh idea for the fifth film.

We were extremely excited at what would come from Ryan Gosling’s collaboration with experimental Tree of Life director Terrence Malick, and then the world reacted to Malick’s latest experiment To The Wonder.

Our fears of Malick ultimately wasting Ryan Gosling’s performance in the upcoming Knight of Cups were raised, considerably. Of the new film Gosling had said: “There was no script. I think he used to have to write them and now I think they’re onto the fact that he doesn’t use them anyway so they’re not requiring them.” Now this wouldn’t usually alarm us, because there have been directors that pull out performances on improvisation alone, but as of late Malick’s track record hasn’t been the best.

To The Wonder started out with a ton of buzz around it, mostly because of its bare plot and the mystery surrounding the production. Then it made its debut at the Venice Film Festival, and critics were so offended that some booed. The elusive director offered no explanation, but its backdrop would-be star Ben Affleck who acted more as a model for scenery than a main performer said Malick “makes ‘Tree of Life’ look like ‘Transformers.’”

Leave it to Ryan Gosling to change the game up for Malick. While at the TCM Classic Film Festival the Knight of Cups editor Billy Weber revealed that the new film starring Gosling and Rooney Mara will not be a repeat of To The Wonder. Weber explains, “To The Wonder’ is a meditation. I don’t think ‘Knight of Cups’ or the next one will be like that, but I’m not positive…I know what the story is. There will be more dialogue in it.”

So far there’s no official plot synopsis for Knight of Cups, so we can only hope with Ryan Gosling and Rooney Mara’s inclusion, that Malick won’t make To The Wonder look like Transformers in comparison.

With Man Of Steel gaining traction in its excitement to the long-awaited June 14 release date, leading man Henry Cavill has been pushed into the spotlight as he starts doing press for the film that sees him in the title role of Superman.

From the initial trailer he sure looks the part of Superman, but what’s more important is that he also looks the part of Clark Kent, which is something 2006′s Brandon Routh failed to pull off in the universally panned Superman Returns.

That said, can a series really be pegged on the lead actor? Sure, there’s a lot of responsibility on an actor’s shoulder to carry a franchise, but a lot of it is also attributed to the director that shapes the film. Just ask Ben Affleck who portrayed Daredevil back in 2003 to horrible reviews due to Mark Steven Johnson’s indecisive direction.

For Man Of Steel a lot is expected from director Zack Snyder, who is known for harvesting a decent career in the action genre. Before taking on Man of Steel, Snyder impressively directed 300, Sucker Punch, and Dawn of the Dead. We’ll conveniently leave out Watchmen, which was seen as a disaster to some film critics.

That said, it’s no surprise to hear leading man Henry Cavill handed all the credit over to Snyder. Cavill recently spoke out about Snyder’s role and Christopher Nolan’s involvement during production of the big budget film. As some of you may know, Nolan signed on to produce the film.

About the working relationship between Nolan and director Snyder, Cavill said Nolan, “wasn’t there during production itself, although I’m not sure how much work was done behind the scenes. I’m sure Zack had a phone call or two with him, but this is definitely Zack’s baby. He was the man in charge, and we created the character together, as opposed to having too many outside influences.”

Here’s hoping Man of Steel is a success or else we’ll know exactly who to blame on this one.

The guys from The Hangover are back, and this time their problems don’t seem to stem from a night forgotten. In fact, director Todd Phillips confirmed it himself when he said the group are “not trying to remember anything” for the last Hangover film.

This means Doug, Phil, Alan, and Stu presumably don’t have an all-night bender in this film and no subsequent hangover. So where do all their problems from The Hangover Part III stem from? Well, it looks like the guys are coming full circle if the newly released clip is enough evidence.

In the clip Phil [Bradley Cooper] declares, “Chow is a cancer!” Of course, he’s referring to Ken Jeong’s hilarious character Mr. Chow, who has caused utter chaos in the group’s lives because of his reckless behavior that leads to the group’s inclusion. Like always it seems that his motto to cheat death or actually die trying stays true in this final film.

Like the usual formula, the group’s problems seem to go from bad to worse as soon as Chow enters the picture. As seen in the clip, to the horror of Stu, Alan receives an e-mail from Chow stating, “it feels good to be out” (we’re assuming prison?) and will be in touch with Alan.

For the last film Ken Jeong’s role has been expanded. In the trailer we see a bit of Chow involved in cockfighting, which is sure to cause at least some hysteria. According to a recent interview most of the plot involves the gang on a manhunt to find his character. Of his role in the film Jeong said:

“I think Chow’s evolution has become from kind of an antagonist or villain in the first one into maybe a friend in the second one. I just love– In this movie you’re going to see different layers of Chow. And it’s become a fully realized and layered character. ”

Despite Iron Man 3 being the second highest debut at the box office, it’s not enough to get Robert Downey Jr. interested in an Iron Man 4. According to reports, the actor who has played the title role of Iron Man, has no plans to return for another sequel.

For anyone following Robert Downey Jr. the news that he won’t be reprising his role shouldn’t come as a huge surprise. He’s said that he wants to retire his character from the series in the past. Alluding to hanging up his coat, the actor referred to his on set injury during the taping of Iron Man 3 as his spring board for thoughts of retirement, saying:

“[The injury] got me thinking about how big the message from your cosmic sponsor needs to be before you pick it up. How many genre movies can I do? How many follow-ups to a successful follow-up are actually fun?”

So what does this really mean for Iron Man? It may not mean what you think. One dinner meeting in Los Angeles was enough to convince the actor to consider reprising his role as Iron Man/Tony Stark for the The Avengers 2 and The Avengers 3. That said, fans of Tony Stark’s snark will still have plenty to look forward to in the coming years.

Downey Jr. isn’t exactly hurting either, as his new agreement with Marvel will see him earning a ton of money in addition to his $50 million that he earned from the 2012 film The Avengers. Of course this doesn’t even begin to factor in what the actor has made for all three Iron Man films. There’s back-end compensation and box office bonuses to consider as well.

According to Doug Creutz, a financialist, his departure from the Iron Man series could prove to cost the studio a pretty penny too. “It would be a definite negative for that particular franchise. He is Tony Stark. The other individual franchises — Thor, Captain America, Hulk — etc., don’t have near the level of box-office potential that Iron Man does.”

Fruitvale, now Fruitvale Station, debuted to an enormous amount of critical acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival when it premiered at the festival. Then the Weinstein Brothers backed the film, and their odds for being a huge Oscar contender were basically solidified.

With the release of the extraordinary poster, it seems like the Weinsteins are serious about the race this year after miscalculating their chances last year. As it is they can practically coast on the engaging premise of Fruitvale Station — a riveting true story that has already captured early audiences, and took top honor at the Sundance Film Festival.

The official synopsis for Fruitvale Station reads as follows:

“Filmmaker Ryan Coogler makes his feature directorial debut with this drama centered on the tragic shooting of Oscar Grant (Michael B. Jordan), a vibrant 22-year-old Bay Area father who was senselessly gunned down by BART officers on New Year’s Day in 2009, and whose murder sent shockwaves through the nation after being captured on camera by his fellow passengers. Octavia L. Spencer, Melonie Diaz, and Kevin Durand co-star.”

However there’s one problem that might stand in its way. When the studio released the theatrical date for a July 12 opening, we were puzzled. The Weinsteins released The Master within the typical Oscar time frame, but even its September 21 opening seemed to add to a series of problems for that campaign. The July release date for Fruitvale Station is a little problematic, but we’re not convinced that the Weinstein Bros aren’t going to pull a fast one on us.

For arguments sake, the Weinstein Brothers could be planning to release the film as a limited, and then keep the buzz running deep into late September with rolling release dates, which could prove to go in their favor. If not, the company does have The Butler as a huge contender. Either way they have a lot on their hands come Oscar season, and it will be interesting to see how this all pans out come award season.

By now the hype around The Butler has pretty much died down. Everything that came out of Terrence Howard’s “tig ole bitties” statement about his love scene with Oprah, is no longer plaguing people’s minds late at night. With that said, it was only a matter of time before the trailer would drop for Lee Daniels’ The Butler.

With Oscar season just around the corner, The Weinstein Brothers have made their first move by giving the audience a glimpse of what’s to come in the fall for the anticipated film. The Butler stars a Who’s Who cast including Howard, Oprah, Cuba Gooding Jr., Lenny Kravitz, Alan Rickman, Jane Fonda, John Cusack, and Robin Williams.

The Butler, written by Danny Strong is a true story of Eugene Allen, who was the White House butler, serving under eight presidents during the years of 1952 to 1986. Whitaker leads the cast in the role of the butler, and Winfrey is his wife. While Howard’s role is unknown, obviously he becomes entangled in some sort of affair with Oprah. However, the film is still rated PG-13 so his account of filming a steamy love scene with the talk show host may not be as bad as it sounded.

For Daniels, this is his follow up to the widely panned film The Paperboy, which came and went very quickly. The trailer for The Butler shows off its bevy of famous faces in the way that announces itself as a serious Oscar contender. Daniels’ fingerprint isn’t in sight, and there’s no traces of remnants from the odd Paperboy in this trailer. Everything about this trailer screams Oscar. The set up of  a young boy faced with trials and tribulations, and his triumph as a respected citizen despite unwavering  discrimination, to the typical swell of familiar orchestral music. It goes without saying, but we’ll say it anyway, that The Weinstein Brothers know exactly what they’re doing for this picture. The Butler hits theaters October 18.

Has Martin Scorsese found a new golden boy in Andrew Garfield? It looks like he may have. Garfield, who’s currently filming The Amazing Spider-Man film, has officially signed on to take the lead in the much awaited Silence film.

The film which has been in various stages of development for two decades has finally started to get real movement with Andrew Garfield’s involvement. The film, which was at one point rumored to star top notch actors like Daniel Day-Lewis, Benicio Del Toro, and Gael Garcia Bernal, sees Garfield as a 17th- century Portuguese Jsuit, who travels to Japan to preach the gospel of Christianity. Silence will be an adaptation from Shusaku Endo’s 1966 novel. Aside from Garfield, Japanese star Ken Watanabe will co-star with The Social Network star.

As of right now, Scorsese is in the middle of wrapping up the long shoot for The Wolf of Wall Street which stars friend and frequent collaborator Leonardo DiCaprio. For DiCaprio this is going to be his last role in quite some time. Meanwhile Scorsese’s production company is in the middle of location scouting for Silence, which has been backed by Cecchi Gori Pictures. In addition the film will seek out buyers at the Cannes international buyers market, which is said to be a first-time thing for Scorsese, as he’s served on the Cannes jury in years past.

Scorsese read the novel 25 years ago, and was excited about its potential back then. In January it was reported that Scorsese had his eyes set on making Silence his next film, but was without a cast. This is after he had announced in December of 2011 that Silence was a project worth getting excited about. Now with Garfield as the lead, it looks like we may have something to look forward to after all.

Looks like Ben Affleck is headed back to his Boston roots for his next directorial effort. Post Oscar win, Affleck is set to write, direct, and star in the adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s 2012 novel Live By Night.

We first heard rumblings that Affleck was first getting involved in Live By Night early last fall, but the news was made official this week. This is the second film that Affleck is set to write, direct and star in. It’s a big move to pull triple duty, but Affleck succeeded in doing this with The Town, and he’s proved with Gone, Baby, Gone that he knows Lehane’s source material very well.

As far as movement on the project, pre-production began yesterday. According to indieWIRE Live By Night is set during the Prohibition in Boston, and the central story is pegged on Joe Coughlin, the son of a cop, who just so happens to find himself slipping into organized crime. Coughlin finds himself working up the ladder of organized crime, and eventually lands in Cuba, where he encounters low lives, crooks and various women. The heart of the story is said to be a tale rooted in revenge and redemption. It sounds like a promising premise, and one that Affleck can work his way around.

For Affleck, this is the second Dennis Lehane novel he’s adapting. The first was his directorial debut Gone, Baby, Gone, which also took place in Boston. His Oscar-winning film Argo was the first film the director didn’t adapt himself. Before that, he made his sophomore effort The Town, which was also filmed in Boston and based off of a book by Chuck Hogan.

As for other projects, Affleck has also been circling an adaptation of Stephen King’s novel The Stand, as well as a remake of Tell No One and of course there’s the Whitey Bulger biopic as well.

For months now we’ve been hearing about the very long-awaited out of this world film starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock. For Bullock, Gravity is said to put her back on the map as a serious actress, or at least one that doesn’t star in undercooked romcoms. Now we finally have a 10 second teaser of the hyped up Gravity.

For those that have been following the film, Gravity has been in development for years. For a long time it was just known as “the space film” starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock. Then we heard news that the film would be shot in 3D and has an extremely heavy hand in special effects. Initially the film was slated for a 2012 release date, but was then pushed back because more work needed to be done on the VFX end of things. However, now it looks like the film is finally ready. With a release date of October 4, we now how visual evidence that this film actually exists.

The clip for Gravity was released by Entertainment Tonight as a promo for their next episode, which is said to show more of the clip. In this minuscule preview we see George Clooney suspended, as Bullock’s body is thrown out of their aircraft.

The official synopsis reads as follows:

“Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone—tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.”

The script, which was leaked a few years ago seems to be a light adventure, with its fair share of big thrills. Distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, Gravity is set to release in 3D and in 2D in select theaters and IMAX on October 4th. It’s a solid release date if George Clooney and Sandra Bullock want a serious shot at Oscar season. So far we don’t know when the film will go wide but we have a feeling WB will want to capitalize on the film, especially given their big name stars and the source material.
