Chicago Bears punter Adam Podlesh is organizing a special event after spending time with Gavin Waterman, the young cancer patient he met for an afternoon hangout.

Podlesh gave Gavin an autographed football, a pair of Bears sunglasses, a stuffed Staley teddy bear and a practice jersey during his visit to the Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.

Following that meet and greet Adam Podlesh decided to do more. Podlesh and some of his teammates will host an event on Wednesday in which they will shave their heads to raise money for Gavin’s family and cancer awareness programs.

Participating in the event are fellow kicker Robbie Gould and Blake Costanzo, James Anderson and Austin Signor. A few other players are also expected to join in the head shaving event.

Speaking on the official Chicago Bears website Podlesh reveals:

“We had been throwing out ideas on what we could do to help them out and we decided on raising money shaving heads for Gavin, which is applicable because with his chemotherapy he’ll be losing his hair in the next week or two.”

If you want to make a donation you can visit here. For every $25 donation that you make a single raffle ticket will be provided. Podesh plans to give away 20 different autographed items. The items being raffled off will be provided with signatures from Bears participants.

Speaking of Adam’s decision to host the event Gavin’s dad Jacob Waterman said:

“Adam’s a great guy. We’re really blessed to have him in our lives. He’s been awesome getting things together and helping us out with the funds.”

Adam Podesh is a cancer survivor himself. Podesh was diagnosed with salivary gland cancer in February 2010 when he played for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Podesh had a malignant tumor removed during surgery.

Speaking of his own life experience with Cancer the Chicago Bears kicker reveals:

“I don’t think that I would be as involved with cancer charities and events as I am now if I hadn’t been diagnosed with cancer. After going through remission and being cancer free, I’ve really made it my purpose to try to do whatever I can to help the fight against cancer.”

YouTube users are now uploading 100 hours worth of video to the content viewing platform every single minute.

Launched eight years ago the social video platform now claims four days worth of video uploaded every minute and 144 billion minutes of playable video uploaded every single day.

In a blog post celebrating the new milestone YouTube writes:

Over the years, you’ve continued to surprise and delight us. And the past year was no exception. Who would have guessed that a tux-rocking K-pop star would shatter records left and right or that Sesame Street would go global with 1 billion views? That’s one of our favorite things about our global audience: you’re as unpredictable as you are creative and irreverent.

To put the networks meteoric rise into perspective, in 2011 YouTube users were adding 48 hours of video per minute.

YouTube is now attempting to lure in even more users with the creation of paid content channels that focus on premium content. One such program is the YouTube Channels program which pays premium content providers to create YouTube channel content over the period of one-year.  While channels began in the United States they have continued expanded into new markets that now include Japan, Germany, France, and the UK.

The Google-owned YouTube platform has risen meteorically and continues to showcase new technologies that draw in users.

Even as other social networks are struggling to attract a younger user base YouTube continues to improve, recently reaching over 1 billion monthly users.

With YouTube attracting such a massive amount of content  and users we will likely see deeper Google+ integration and other Google platform options show up on the platform at Google Hangouts and other technologies work to link Google users through all of their accounts.

Forget solar flares and electro magnetic pulses (EMPs) because the true destroyer of our electronics equipment might be “tawny crazy ants.”

The little buggers have started to invade Texas and researchers at the University of Texas at Austin say they can nest in nearly any container.

According to UT research assistant Edward LeBrun

“They nest in electronics and create short circuits, as they create a contact bridge between two points when they get electrocuted they release an alarm pheromone. The other ants are attracted to the chemicals that other ants give off. At this point, more ants arrive and create a larger nest.”

The ants are extremely hard to exterminate because a single nest can oftentimes contain multiple queens and because normal poisons and baits appear to have little effect on the crazy ant colonies.

The tawny crazy ants also travel upwards of 650 feet per year which means they are invading rather quickly compared to some other colony types.

Scientifically known as Nylanderia fulva the ants were originally named Raspberry Crazy Ants after being discovered by pest control worker Tom Raspberry.  After finding the tawny crazy ants Mr. Raspberry reported the little terrors to researchers at Texas A&M who proceeded to study their habits and migratory patterns.

It’s still too early to tell what type of impact the tawny crazy ants will have on electronics but early issues have raised a need for concern.

Sure we still need to worry about EMP’s and solar flares and attacks on our power infrastructure but now we also have to worry about a pesky rodent ruining our iMac’s and microwaves.

Scientists are attempting to find a suitable measure that can wipe ou the the nests of tawny crazy ants.

Are you baffled by the increasing prices for cheap beer? It turns out that hipsters, drunks and college students might be affecting your ability to buy a cheap product.

A new study by Restaurant Sciences has found that cheap beers such as Budweiser, Miller Light and Coors Light are getting pricier. The study believes that the increasing popularity of the brand Pabst Blue Ribbon is attributing to the higher costs for previously low-cost beers.

Apparently cheap beers like PBR are becoming “quite fashionable” as hipsters given them the thumbs up.

Speaking to the New York Daily News Chuck Ellis, the head of Restaurant Sciences reveals:

“I believe the single biggest driver in sub-premium beer price increases is indeed specifically PBR.”

The study might be troubling for low-cost beer buyers who are now paying a 6.8 percent premium over prices that existed just several months prior.

The higher prices for low-cost beers are counter to movement towards higher priced but better tasting micro-brews that have been winning over American consumers over the last few years.

The increase in prices isn’t just effecting the brew market, cocktails and spirits are also costing more to procure these days.

A few weeks ago, Nicole Muxo took to YouTube in the hopes that she could convince NBA all-star Dwayne Wade to show up at her prom.

Muxo hadn’t heard anything from Wade, so she went ahead and accepted another invitation.

Last night, the Miami Heat star accepted Muxo’s offer, showing up at her prom night celebration.

Muxo and her fellow classmates at Archbishop Carroll High School were treated to a media circus when Wade showed up at the last minute.

Apparently, Dwayne Wade was impressed with Muxo’s decision to simply ask him for a date. On his Twitter page, Wade wrote, “Never be 2 scared to ask.”

Muxo’s “real date” Laurent Chaumin seems fine with the appearance of Dwayne, calling him “Rico Suave” and joking, “At least we both know how to dress.” Perhaps Chaumin was speaking about Wade’s decision to wear bright red shoes to the special occasion.

Possibly to everyone’s surprise, Dwayne Wade was allowed to enter the celebration. Many schools these days have specific rules about non-students joining their prom events. In this case, camera crews were allowed to enter and students were treated to a special surprise.

A Saudi women scaled Everest this week, becoming the first female from Saudi Arabia to successfully traverse the Nepal side of the mountain.

Tilak Padney of Nepal’s Mountaineering Department says 35 foreign climbers completed the climb along with 29 Nepalese Sherpa guides.

The climbers reached the top of the 29,035 foot summit on Saturday morning after a climb that took all night to complete from the highest camp on South Col.

Raha Moharrak following the climb became the first Saudi woman to scale everest.

The 25-year old graphic designer was the only female to join a group of four Arabs for the climb. Moharrak and her team announced plans to traverse the summit two months ago.

A tweet from the group reads:

“The first ever Saudi woman to attempt Everest has reached the top!! Bravo Raha Moharrak. We salute you.”

Moharrak was part of the team known as “Arabs with Altitude.” That group included Qatar’s royal family member Mohammed Al Thani, Palestinian real-estate businessman Raed Zidan and ice-cream franchise owner Masoud Mohammad.

Speaking about her record breaking climb Moharrak revealed:

“I really don’t care about being the first … so long as it inspires someone else to be the second.”

Not only did Raha Moharrak become the first Saudi woman to scale Everest; she also joined an elite team that now includes approximately 3,000 people who have completed the climb.

The group of Arab climbers traversed the summit in May, the most favorable month for weather at the summit.

If you’re a guy with a beard, the company is willing to pay $5 per day to borrow your hairy face.

So who would actually be willing to take part in beardvertising? How about A&W. The fast food giant is one of the company’s first participants.

While the company started its campaigns in Kentucky, it’s willing to go ”anywhere that there were epic beards willing to host these little ‘beardboards.”

The advertising company is already in talks with other firms who want to give beardvertising a shot.

While beardvertising might sound like some crazy idea, it’s not quite as strange as temporary tattoo advertising on Japanese girls and body space sold in the form of more permanent tattoos.

$5 per day might not sound like a lot of money, but ,when you consider the ease of use, it’s not a bad deal. Heck, some guys with epic beards walk around with enough food stuck on their face that it looks like advertising.

Anthony Moore, better known to his fans by the stage name Romanthony, has died.

The house producer’s death was confirmed in a Facebook post by his sister Mellony Moore. The producer’s death was announced on May 9.

While Romanthony had spent years working on his own music as a renowned DJ, he is best known for appearing in the Daft Punk smash hit One More Time in 2000. Romanthony provided the vocal tracks for the smash hit Daft Punk song.

Boys Noize upon learning about his friends death took to Twitter where he tweeted:

“It is so sad Romanthony and me were working on such an amazing song together. he said it was the best song he had ever written .”

Taking to Facebook, Eve Angel (Daone Remmidy) wrote:

“Our Music Industry has lost yet another pioneer and music legend. I am deeply saddened to Announce the Passing our my Label Owner, Producer, Manager, and Family. Our Beloved World Renowned DJ and Producer Romanthony has passed away. What a great run we had Roman gave me my first break into the Music Industry and introduced me to the world, as Eve Angel. We were working on an amazing project. I will miss him and he will forever remain in my heart. We had a 20 year stint together and he will never be forgotten.”

The Daft Punk collaborator passed away at his home in Austin, Texas on May 7.

Moore first released an album under the name Romanthony in 1997. His debut album titled Romanworld was followed up two years later with the album Instinct. 

Romanthony also collaborated on the Discovery album track “Too Long.”

A teen girl bit her boyfriend’s penis this week after he refused to have sex with her.

Nineteen-year-old Krystle Harrison was in bed with 24-year-old boyfriend Jeffrey Wilkinson when he rejected her advanced.

According to a police report, Wilkinson told Krystle “several times that he did not want to partake” in any sexual acts.

Not willing to take no for an answer, Krystle grabbed her boyfriend by the penis and bit him on his genitals.

Realizing that his girlfriend is a bag full of crazy, Jeffrey pushed her away and then fled the couple’s shared home in Bradenton, Florida.

Krystle followed her boyfriend out of the home, slapped him in the face, and then spit on him.

Krystle was taken into custody and charged with domestic battery. Jeffrey told police that he did not want to press charges.

Harrison and Wilkinson have a child together.

As we head into the weekend, we can’t help but wonder why so many strange penis stories are surfacing. As our own Kim LaCapria reported today, a man was arrested after he rubbed his penis on a pepperoni inside a supermarket.

Following her Met Gala appearance doctors cancelled one of the singers concerted and cited the cancelation for “dehydration and exhaustion.”

News of Beyonce’s pregnancy shouldn’t come as a surprise; the multi-platinum singer and design recently talked about a new sibling for Blue Ivy.

Speaking to ABC News, Beyonce recently said she would “like more children” and then proclaimed that little Blue Ivy “needs more company.”

The 31-year-old singer and her rap superstar husband have not yet confirmed the pregnancy.

If the pregnancy is anything like the couple’s last they might want to make better preparations for when they take over an entire floor of a hospital.

In any case, congratulations to Beyonce and Jay-Z on the future arrival of their next child.

The Nvidia Shield was suppose to open up for pre-orders in three days; instead, the company launched the pre-order option ahead of schedule for anxious customers.

Consumers interested in purchasing the handheld gaming system can purchase the device via the Nvidia website and through several retailers that include  Newegg, Gamestop, and Canada Computer.

The Tegra 4-powered Android gaming system features a quad-core processor alongside 2GB of RAM. The Nvidia Shield also provides users with a five-inch multi-touch flip-up display that outputs 1280 x 720 pixels of resolution.

The handheld system also provides gamers with a 16GB hard drive that can be expanded with a microSD card slot.

Connectivity options include Bluetooth 3.0, GPS, and Wi-Fi with 2×2 Mimo support.

Unlike most gaming systems which integrate a display next to a set of controls that wrap around the screen, the Nvidia Shield provides dual analog joysticks, a directional pad, analog triggers, shoulder bumpers, and various other game-related buttons.

Thanks to Nvidia’s know-how with graphical interfaces, the Shield also features the ability to wirelessly stream game footage from a computer.

The handheld console can relay back button presses and inputs from its microUSB 2.0 port to the computer. The device can also relay footage to a standard TV via a built-in mini HDMI output connector.

The Nvidia Shield is expected to ship by the end of June and comes with a price tag of $349. Customers will receive two full games at no charge. Other games can be purchased directly from the device.

A group of topless women’s right protesters showed up on Friday to protest the opening of a giant pink doll house known as the “Barbie Dreamhouse Experience.”

The protesters took to the streets of Berlin as Mattel announced the opening of the interactive house. Participants can try on clothes, play in the homes kitchen, and even play Barbie’s pink piano.

The Dreamhouse Experience is a temporary build that will remain in place until August 25.

One of the topless woman at the protest wrote the words “Life in plastic is not fantastic” across her bare chest.

Protesters also set fire to a Barbie doll that was tied to a mini crucifix.

Stevie Meriel Schmiedel, a founding member of the “Pink Stinks” protest group, tells the HuffingtonPost:

“There’s too much emphasis on becoming more beautiful and on being pretty and that puts an awful lot of pressure on girls as well as wasting capacities which they could use to simply be happy or for school.”

Schmiedel then added:

“We’re protesting because Barbie would not be able to survive with her figure and yet she is an idol for many girls and that’s not healthy.”

It wasn’t just topless women who were protesting the Barbie Dreamhouse Experience; a male protester stood among his female counterparts while wearing a shimmering skirt, a pink shirt and a wig. The man held a sign that read “do you like me now?”

Officials for Mattel note that the Barbie Dreamhouse Experience is not just full of womanly type activities; it also features other hands-on activities.

Since debuting in 1959, the Barbie doll and her slim waistline and large breasts has drawn plenty of criticism. Typically that criticism isn’t followed by topless women and men in skirts, but nothing really surprises us when it comes to Barbie protests.

A woman in Wisconsin saved her husbands life in an odd way. Gerre Ninnemann was tackled by a bear as he attempted to save his dog from an impeding attack. As the bear bit into the man’s leg, his wife took action.

Marie Ninnemann found her husband’s shotgun in the basement, but it wasn’t loaded. Marie attempted to load the gun but couldn’t figure out the process. Thinking quickly on her feet, Marie ran outside and smashed the butt of the shotgun into the bear’s head.

Pointing the unloaded gun at the bear, the couple backtracked into their home.

Not prepared to flee from its human meal, the bear proceeded to circle the couple,s home while looking at the couple through several windows located around the house.

Eventually, a responding deputy found and killed the one-year-old bear with a single shot.

While Gerre Ninneman suffered from several vite marks to his waist, leg, and head, he is expected to make a full recovery. Gerre required staples for some of his wounds but is expected to make a full recovery.

The couple’s dog was also safe thanks to Marie’s quick and courageous thinking.

To err on the side of caution, authorities are checking the bear (not pictured) for rabies. Despite their ability to attack, bears in the area typically stay away from humans and homes. In fact, over the last several decades, only a few bear attacks have been reported.

So what’s next for the couple? Gerre plans to teach his wife how to properly load his shotgun.

Toronto was rocked by a 5.1 magnitude earthquake at 9:43 am on Friday. The earthquake originated 25 kilometres (15 miles) outside of the city.

The US Geological Survey reports that the earthquake originated in the area north-northeast of Shawville, Quebec.

The earthquake was file kilometers deep according to the USGS.

Ten minutes after the initial earthquake, a 4.2-magnitude aftershock was reported.

Residents throughout Toronto, Ottawa, and even Huron, Ohio felt the effects of the earthquake.

Seismologist John Adams of Earthquake Canada tells The Star: “It was obviously widely felt if it reached Toronto.”

Update: Ontario Provincial Police in Arnprior, Ontario tell The Globe And Mail that, despite their close proximity to the epicenter, no reports of damage have been provided at this time.

Update 9:56 am: Bernie Dunn of the Southern Ontario Seismic Network tells TheSpec that earthquakes registering 4.0 or higher are likely in the Western Quebec seismic zone. According to Dunn:

“You’ll get a few more big ones out that way than we do in this part of southern Ontario,” he said. “But a 5.1 is still fairly unusual … we felt it here (in London).”

Smaller aftershocks are likely to be reported throughout the day.

It wasn’t silent, but a man’s fart did nearly turn deadly.

Deborah Ann Burns, 37, allegedly took a knife to her lover of six years after he farted in her face during an argument.

Willie Butler, 53, was stabbed with an eight-inch blade as the couple watched TV in their apartment.

According to Burns she was fighting with her boyfriend over money when he stood up and farted in her face on his way to the kitchen.

Burns then claims that her boyfriend picked up a knife and threw it in her direction. Burns then allegedly picked up the knife and threw it back, hitting Butler in the stomach.

Adding insult to fart-based injury and a stab to the gut, Burns ran outside, picked up a stick, and proceeded to hit Butler in the left arm.

When police arrived at the apartment, they could not take a statement from Willie Butler because he was too drunk to talk.

For her part, Deborah Burns denies cutting Butler. Police arrested Burns on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Burns still remains in custody on a $50,000 bond.

It has been a very strange week for stupid criminal attacks and actions. As we reported earlier today, one group of criminals locked a homeowner in his own gun closet while another man was arrested while attempting to sneak into prison.

This is the first time we have reported on an attack that was instigated by a fart, and hopefully it will be the last time.

Boyfriend Farts In Girlfriends Face During Argument, Gets Stabbed is a post from: The Inquisitr

A man in Bermuda was arrested this week when he attempted to break certain items in to prison.

Tyevin Bean attempted to sneak contrband into the Westgate Correctional Facility when he was discovered by prison personnel.

The 22-year-old was already on probation at the time of his arrest, and he appeared in Magistrates’ Court on Thursday to answer for his crime.

Bean wasn’t attempting to become a permanent resident of the prison. Instead, he was attempting to smuggle in various items, which included cell phones and other pieces of contraband.

According to the police report, the parole was attempting to sneak various items into the prison via a single package. The items he was holding at the time of his arrest included  five BlackBerry cell phones, a bottle of white rum, three bottles of dark rum, six packages of Sampson tobacco, one package of loose tobacco, two lighters, two packs of Rizla papers, a pocket knife, two packages of protein powder, and three packages of candies

The prison is a high-security facility, which made the chances of success for the smuggling very low.

Mr. Bean is set to appear in court for trial on June 6. Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner remanded the young man into custody.

Sadly, this is not the first time we have reported on someone attempting to sneak into prison, and it probably won’t be the last time.

Pastor and former Disney employee Cedric Cuthbert bonded out of an Orange County jail on Thursday after he was arrested for allegedly viewing child pornography at work.

According to reports, the pastor looked at the illegal content while at work.

Under terms of his bond, Cuthbert can have no contact with any minors expect for his 8- and 11-year-old sons.

Disney officials spoke with police and said the former employee viewed the illegal child pornography while he was on the clock. Cuthbert spent 7 ½ years working at the family friendly company.

According to the arrest report, Cuthbert viewed pictures of underage girls from his work computer and sent underage girls messages via the YouTube video platform.

The former Disney employee viewed the child porn using his own password and login. He even downloaded the pornography to his own work computer. For those reasons, Disney officials don’t believe he was trying to actively hide his activities.

The computer used to view the child pornography was the same system used to write Cedric Cuthbert’s Sunday Sermons. The Disney employee has spent the last three years as a pastor at the Historic St. James AME Church in Sanford.

Disney fired Cuthbert following the discovery of illegal activity. The company, although not at fault, has apologized for his actions.

Cedric Cuthbert is facing multiple charges resulting from all of his viewing activities.

It is not clear at this time if the former Disney employee was also viewing child pornography at his place of residence or just at Disney.

Three burglars in Houston, Texas have just qualified for our stupidest criminals of the year award.

The three men broke into a man’s home this week and then locked him inside a closet. There was just one problem: It was a closet full of guns.

At first the burglars’ plan appeared to work, the man stood quietly in the closet. Moments later, the man emerged to determine if the men had left his home. Before one of the robbers could shoot him, the man opened fire.

One of the robbers were hit in the shoulder and leg, and his two friends quickly fled away in their Chevy Tahoe.

The man who was struck by several bullets from the homeowner made his way out of the house and collapsed in the street.

According to witnesses, the shot criminal was seen crying out in pain as he laid in a pool of his own blood.

The injured robber was taken to Ben Taub Hospital where he was treated for his wounds and taken into custody for robbery.

The neighborhood where the break-in occurred has been witnessing an increase in violence over the last year. In one case, criminals simply kicked in a door and robbed a home.

The home owner who opened fire on the robber will not face charges. Gun owners in Texas are allowed to shoot and even kill trespassers under a law known as the “castle doctrine.” Under that law, the person being attacked does not have a “duty to retreat.”

The castle doctrine allows a homeowner to attack someone in their home if that person enters the house and is armed.

Neighbors are heralding the man’s actions amid increasing crime.

Will you be heading out to Riot Fest 2013? If you are, the festival’s initial lineup is now available, and it’s definitely varied.

Among some of the first acts announced for the punk rock-leaning show are Fall Out Boy, Blink 182, Blondie, Public Enemy, Guided By Voices, Gwar, and Taking Back Sunday.

Riot Fest 2013 is hosted from September 13 through September 15 and takes place in Humboldt Park.

The main poster for the show features a set of question marks under Fall Out Boy and Blink 182, leaving us to wonder which surprise act will take to the stage.

So far, more than 60 acts have been named for Riot Fest.

Founded in 2005, Riot Fest has become a traveling festival that has setup camp in various cities including Philly, Brooklyn, Toronto, and most recently in Dallas for the 2012 show.

Unlike other festivals, Riot Fest is a city-wide event in which multiple venues are used to host a large number of acts. This year, the show will take place in Chicago’s Humboldt Park and is said to eclipse Riot Fest events of the past.

In some cases, the event will be the only chance fans have for seeing groups they love. Guided by Voices will make its sole 2013 appearance at Riot Fest 2013. Recently reunited band Quicksand will also make one of only several appearance for 2013.

With the musical festival occurring in Chicago several local bands will join the fray. Chicago groups participating in the shows are The Smoking Popes, White Mystery, Twin Peaks, and Maps and Atlases.

Tickets are $23 per day while a three day pass is $99.98.

The Apple App Store has now collected more than 50 billion downloads since its time of launch.

Apple on Thursday announced that its massive mobile devices platform has passed the major milestone and that Brandon Ashmore of Mentor Ohio downloaded the company’s 50 billionth app. Brandon will receive a $10,000 app store gift card for being the first person to reach the 50 billion downloads milestone.

Apple is also handing out $500 gift cards to the app stores 50 runners-up.

Apple launched the App Store in July 2008 and reached its first 10 billion downloads in January 2011. In 2012, the company announced that it had surpassed 25 billion downloads. The App Store continued to perform well, and, in January 2013, Apple announced its 40 billionth app store download.

The 50 billionth download was a free iPhone app called Say the Same Thing by Space Inch. The app was recently featured in a video or the band OK Go.

Apple based the 50 billion download mark on unique downloads, which means customers who uninstall and reinstall apps at a later time were not included in the tally. Updates were also not included in Apple’s final tally for App Store downloads.

Speaking about the company’s massive success, Apple Senior Vice President of Internet Services and Software Eddy Cue said:

“Apple would like to thank our incredible customers and developers for topping 50 billion apps downloaded. We’re absolutely floored to cross this milestone in less than five years.”

While Google Android devices have continually outsold Apple devices around the world, the Cupertino based tech giant has managed to win over more web savvy users. Apple consistently ranks as the number one data provider for mobile device users.

Experts have been practically begging food manufacturers to cut back on the amount of salt they put in their products. Despite those requests, processed food manufacturers and restaurants continue to push high levels of sodium onto their customers.

A recent study finds that sodium content in processed foods declined by 3.5 percent; however, fast food sodium levels increased by 2.6 percent. Researchers at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine note that the changes are so small they may have occurred by chance.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the average American has a salt intake level of 2,300 milligrams per day. The CDC recommends that salt intake should be cut by 50 percent in order to ensure proper health.

While many Americans may believe that simply throwing out the salt shaker is good enough, the truth of the matter is that most of our salt arrives by way of processed and fast foods.

The new study suggests that the food industry doesn’t want to change, and, therefore, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) should take steps to reduce sodium levels on behalf of consumers.

So what foods are the worst offenders? Researchers point to smoked bacon (1,803mg of sodium per 100-grams) and Caesar salad dressing, which offers 1,079mg. Hot dogs are also packed full of salt with 927mg of sodium per hot dog.

If you think you are doing yourself any favors by eating chicken strips instead of a burger, the study finds that fast food meals with chicken and fries can still push out 1,239mg of salt.

Fast food diners may also want to choose certain chains to eat at. For example, Burger King french fries (medium size) have 670mg while a medium McDonald’s fries features just 270mg per 100 grams served.

Consumers can help reduce their sodium intake by looking for salt-free and low-sodium labels on food products.

While sodium levels remain high in our processed and fast foods, a new study suggests that cutting back salt might have no effects on our health.

Americans Are Eating Too Much Salt, Processed Foods And Restaurants Are Blamed is a post from: The Inquisitr

Pots smokers might get the munchies, but that hasn’t affected their waistline, according to a new study published in the American Journal of Medicine. 

The study finds a reduced prevalence of obesity in the marijuana smoking community despite the average pot smoker eating an extra 600 calories per day.

Researchers at the University of Nebraska, the Harvard School of Public Health, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center examined the statistics for more than 4,600 adults located around the United States. Twelve percent of participants self-identified as pot users, and 42 percent admitted to smoking marijuana in the past.

Each participant in the study had their blood sugar levels tested for various factors which included their fasting insulin and glucose levels, insulin resistance, cholesterol levels, and waist circumference.

Researchers found that participants who smoke pot have significantly smaller waist circumference than participants who have never smoked marijuana.  Researchers also had higher levels of HDL, also known as good cholesterol. Pot smokers also had a 16 percent decrease in insulin levels. Marijuana smokers had increased insulin resistance by 17 percent.

Researchers adjusted the study to account for changes in age, sex, tobacco and alcohol use, and physical activity levels.

Even participants who had used marijuana but failed to smoke in the last thirty days showed similar outcomes but to a lessened degree.

Researchers are not prepared to claim that pot smoking provides the benefits observed, only that those marijuana smokers in the survey showed improved statistics.

Airlines over the last few years have begun charging an increasing amount of money for baggage fees. While customers often complain about those fees a new study suggests carry-on fees are on customers minds less than they use to be.

A J.D. Power & Associates airline satisfaction study for 2013 finds that in general customer satisfaction with airlines is at its highest level since 2006.

The study discovered that on a 1,000-point scale airlines are now receiving 695 points, that’s up by 14 points from 2012. The survey involved 11,800 airline passengers.

A Cambodian factory that manufacturers Asics sneakers collapsed on Thursday, killing two workers and injuring seven others.

Nearly 50 workers were inside the factory located in the capital of Phnom Penh when a ceiling collapsed and heavy iron equipment stored on the floor above fell to the floor below.

Rescuers spent several hours combing through the rubble in search of other possible survivors.

The factory is owned by Wing Star. Shoes from the factory are produced for sale in the United States and Europe.

The Wing Star factory opened just one year ago and consists of several different manufacturing facilities. The roof collapsed inside a storage warehouse that is used primarily to store shoe-production equipment. According to factory officials workers were inside a small workspace inside the storage building.

The roof collapse appears to have been caused because of the heavy iron equipment held on the floor above.

Nearly 500,000 people work in the garment industry throughout Cambodia. Garment exports are the countries largest money earner with nearly $4 billion worth of exports shipped to the United States and Europe annually.

This is the second building collapse in the garment industry in recent weeks. Just three weeks ago a building collapsed in Bangladesh and killed 1,127 people. The Bangladesh collapse is the worst in the history of the global garment industry.

Further details about the Asics sneakers factory collapse have not been made public at this time.

Winning the lottery is not easy; the odds, in fact, are often astronomical. That hasn’t stopped a Virginia man from winning a state run lottery for the fourth time.

Retired postal worker Melvyn Wilson recently purchased a scratchcard which earned him $500,000.

Wilson has been on an incredible streak since first winning $25,000 back in 2004. The following year Wilson won $1 million from another scratchcard, and, then again in 2005, he grabbed another $500,000.

If you don’t want to do that math all together, Melvyn has won $2,025,000 including his most recent winnings.

So what’s Mr. Wilson’s strategy? He says it all comes down to being “in the right place at the right time.”

When lottery officials asked Mr. Wilson what he will do with the winnings, he responded, “I invest in Melvyn.”

State lottery officials have not revealed how many lottery tickets Mr. Wilson buys on a regular basis.

If you want to win more than one lottery, you might want to consider moving to Virginia. In 2012, Virginia Fike won $1 million in the morning and then another $1 million later the same day.

Perhaps its time for Melvyn Wilson to switch over from scratchcards with smaller payouts to a $1 ticket in a mega lottery. Then again, his strategy appears to be paying off given the numerous wins he has claimed over the last decade.

A CamTran bus in suburban Johnstown was attacked by a deer on Tuesday evening, and the entire event was caught on video.

The bus was driving down the 200 block of Goucher Street when all of a sudden a deer flew through the large glass window on the front of the bus.

John Porter tells WJACTV: ”I am lucky it went through the other window than the drivers side, because it would have been different.”

One passenger was also on the bus, and they were not harmed during the event.

According to Dr. Spelman, breathing in time to music with a low bpm, at a controlled and reduced pace, is proven to lower heart rate and blood pressure, which in turn reduces anxiety. Dr. Spelman also found that listening to tracks that stimulate both sides of the brain while using headphones with your eyes closed can help reduce anxiety.

The study notes:

“Music which is harmonious and emotive is generally regarded as the best at achieving this type of stimulation, which induces Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). This tried and tested method was originally developed for treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and is incredibly powerful at calming and relaxing the mind and body.”

The NEC Medias X is officially the first smartphone to feature a liquid-cooled system. The Medias X 06E will be released as part of NTT DoCoMo’s summer release schedule.

The smartphone uses a tube of liquid that transfers heat from the devices quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor to a graphite radiator that is located on another part of the device.

Instead of removing heat from the device the liquid-cooling tube simply disperses heat to other parts of the smartphone to slow overheating.

While Qualcomm allows the processor to be clocked at 1.9GHz the NEC Medias X uses just 1.7GHz, even with its liquid-cooled core.

Liquid cooling isn’t the only feature users will love. The NEC Medias X also comes equipped with a 13.1-megapixel rear camera with a backside illuminated sensor. The high-end smartphone also offers a front-facing 1.3 megapixel counterpart.

Also featured on the liquid-cooled smartphone is a 4.7-inch OLED display that outputs at 720×1280 pixels resolution.

The smarpthone also offers NFC technology, Wi-Fi capabilities and compatibility with Japanese digital TV services which are powered by a 2,300mAh battery.

The NEC Medias X is only expected to be sold in Japan, however if the technology is successful it could find its way into other smartphones.

As mobile devices continue to cram more technology into their ever decreasing sizes technology that helps cool those devices could grow in importance.

A Tejano singer was attacked in Houston on Monday night and has suffered severe injuries to his face.

The singer, Oscar De La Rosa, of the popular group La Mafia, was attacked outside of a gay bar.

According to eye witnesses the singer and his driver were assaulted without warning and didn’t have a chance to defend themselves. The attack left Oscar De La Rosa with several lacerations to his face, two lost teeth, and damage to his eye.

On the bands Facebook page the following statement was released:

“Oscar De La Rosa was assaulted around 1:30 AM this morning leaving a local bar in Houston. He is still in trauma care at Memorial Herman Hospital (sic). He has suffered severe face lacerations and possible damage to his right eye. A police report has been filed and the identity of the assailant has been confirmed, assault charges will be filed as soon he is located.”

According to eye witnesses, the attack was unprovoked and the attacker fled immediately following the assault. Band member Armando Lichtenberger tells a different story, claiming that an altercation inside the club led to the man being kicked out.

Accrording to Lichtenberger:

“He sucker-punched the driver, knocked him half unconscious and then he went at Oscar and started pounding on his face. A sucker punch is the worst thing. He didn’t get to defend himself at all. It happened so fast.”

The extent of the singers injuries are not yet known, and the band has not yet postponed or cancelled any upcoming performances.

Police are still searching for the man who attacked the singer outside the Houston bar.

OMG!!! As part of its Star Wars Weekend event, Disney is giving fans the chance to receive a 3D-printed Stormtrooper figure of themselves!

The big event runs from May 17 to June 9 and takes place at the D-Tech Me experience at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Disney will take the high resolution 3D face scans of each person in attendance and then create the 3D-printed Stormtrooper figuring.

The entire process takes 10-minutes to complete and the high-resolution 3D printer does the rest.

Buyers will have to wait approximately seven to eight weeks to receive their new figuring via domestic shipping.

Also being made available is the option to “cast yourself in Carbonite.” That option inspired by the popular Hans Solo scene from The Empire Strikes Back will allow fans to receive a Carbon-Freeze Me light-up band or a collector button depending on their choice in product.

Disney is charging $99.95 for the Star Wars D-Tech Me experience.

While some Star Wars fans are still skeptical about Disney’s involvement in the Star Wars franchise, it’s this type of cool promotion that makes for an exciting new approach to promoting the long-lived franchise.

With more rumors sure to arrive over the coming months and JJ Abrams stepping in to direct the first new Star Wars movie in years, we can likely expect more publicity stunts for the series in the near future.

Internet television streaming service Aereo has received an unlikely ally in US Senator John McCain.

McCain last week introduced a bill that would stop television distributors from bundling unpopular channels with high demand channels. Because of parts of the bill, it has been dubbed the “Aereo provision.”

If you are unfamiliar with the platform, Aereo provides subscribers online access to live broadcast television. The company picked up over-the-air signals by using thousands of tiny antennae. The company then transmits those signals to an online DVR service that is available in large metropolitan areas.

The company was recently sued because it doesn’t pay a licensing fee to Fox, CBS, ABC, NBC, and other over-the-air broadcasters. Aereo has so far won two federal court battles in New York.

Following several court decisions, News Corp. President and COO Chase Carey threatened to make Fox TV a subscription-only service.

Responding to Fox’s threats to pull its over-the-air broadcasting, John McCain jumped in to note that Fox is only allowed to operate based on a government license. In exchange for its license, Fox must provide local news, weather, and emergency alerts to customers.

John McCain’s bill essentially says that, if Fox stops broadcasting for free, it will lose its license to air content on broadcast airwaves.

Should Fox decide to push out non-subscribers, it would leave more than 50 million people without service.

While over-the-air broadcasters continue to call the Aereo service a system of piracy, the truth is Aereo takes already free to watch signals and sends them to users over a new signal. The company charges to store a users shows on DVR, but it does not charge a per channel rate. Essentially, Aereo is like buying a DVR for your TV and then recording channels you get for free. It is that train of thought that has lobbied the court system around Aereo and against major over-the-air broadcast channels.

The BlackBerry Messenger application (BBM) is making its way from BlackBerry devices to both the Google Android and iOS platforms this summer.

The announcement reveals that iOS and Android users will be able to download and use the app for free.

The application will first debut with only core BBM functionality, which will then extend to other aspects of the BlackBerry system later in the year.

Among the apps features are BBM chats, multi-person chats, voice note sharing, and BlackBerry Groups with message and file sharing between up to 30 members.

According to BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins, ”we’ll bring voice, screen share, and of course, channels later on.”

Heins says the launch date for BlackBerry Messenger is “subject to approval by Google Play and the Apple App Store.”

BBM is compatible with iOS 6 and devices running Android 4.0 and later.

The BlackBerry Messenger platform has been an integral part of the company’s platform for years and opening it up for use outside of BlackBerry devices might signal the company’s rumored move towards software only development. According to Andrew Bocking, executive vice president of  software product management and ecosystem at BlackBerry:

“For BlackBerry, messaging and collaboration are inseparable from the mobile experience, and the time is definitely right for BBM to become a multi-platform mobile service.”

More than 60 million monthly active users currently take advantage of the BlackBerry Messenger service, and more than 51 million of those users engage with BBM for an average of 90 minutes per day. With more than 10 billion messages sent each day with BBM, now seems like the perfect time to massively expand the BlackBerry Messenger apps reach.

With many companies now providing “bring your own device” support, the move to allow cross-device BBM use could help some business users stick with their familiar BlackBerry-based smartphones and maybe even try out BB10.

Is Apple preparing to ditch the push-style home button that has remained a centerpiece of its devices design aesthetics? A new rumor suggests that Apple will remove the home button for the next iPhone release, instead replacing the smartphone button with a capacitive touch area that would utilize the same functionality.

Some rumors pointed to the home button implementing a fingerprint reader, but the only evidence supporting that rumor has been Apple’s 2012 acquisition of security firm Authentec.

The new rumor suggests that Apple will replace the home button with a sapphire glass coating that is meant to avoid scratches to its surface.

The suggestion for the new display comes from  a Taiwanese tech site, which also claims that the scratch-resistant glass will be the same material currently used to protect the camera on the Apple iPhone 5.

Apple is no stranger to removing moveable hardware with touchscreen options. After years of use, Apple replaced the scrolling wheel found on its iPods with touch-sensitive areas.

Experts are still mulling over the possibility that Apple’s fingerprint technology could potentially be used alongside fingerprint technology. If that’s the case, Apple could present a long-lasting fingerprint reader that increases security while bringing a new aesthetic to the iPhone 5S.

Isomorphic controls would mean a user could set their fingerprint with the smartphone and then never need to worry about setting a password. Because isomorphic controls can not be easily cloned, device security would benefit greatly.

Apple has yet to confirm or deny current fingerprint reader rumors.

Apple iPhone To Ditch Home Button, Move Towards Capacitive Touch Area is a post from: The Inquisitr

Microsoft on Monday revealed that Windows Blue will be officially named Windows 8.1.

The tech giant also announced that the software pack will be made available as a free update to users of Windows 8 via the Windows Store.

Microsoft will debut the public preview of Windows 8.1 for Windows 8 and Windows RT in June with the public release to follow at an undisclosed time.

The public preview will be available for download starting June 26, and that download will coincide with the Build developer conference in San Francisco. The download will be available for Windows 8 and Windows RT customers.

The Microsoft Windows Blue build has leaked online in recent months, and it features some much needed improvements. The new build appears to offer better multitasking, deeper integration with SkyDrive, updates to the OS’ side Charms, and a better selection of LiveTile colors and sizes.

Microsoft is expected to bring back the Start Button in some form, although no leaks of that button have been revealed at this time. The Start button being removed from the current Windows 8 setup has been one of the company’s biggest consumer complaints.

On the official Windows blog Microsoft says the Windows 8.1 retail release will be made available “later this year.” That time frame appears to match comments made by chief marketing officer and chief financial officer Tami Reller last week.

Microsoft, in the meantime, is promising sub-8 inch display support for Windows 8 in the near future, a move that could allow Microsoft to more closely compete with Apple, Samsung, Google, Amazon, and other small-sized tablet manufacturers.

Tim Tebow as a Philadelphia Soul quarterback could be just the push the young quarterback needs to eventually become an NFL superstar. The Arena League team recently offered Tebow the QB 1 position, and now it is just up to Tebow to accept.

Tebow was released by the New York Jets on April 29, and, while he has been tied to several possible teams, no offers have come around at this time.

Since being cut, Tebow has been receiving offers from teams outside of the NFL including the Omaha Beef of the Champions Indoor Professional Football League.

Talking about what the league could do for Tebow Philadelphia Soul owner and former Philadelphia quarteback Ron Jaworski notes:

“One [criticism] of Tebow is that he is slow and methodical. He would be forced to quicken it up in this league and it would be good training for him. You can learn a lot in this league. It’s about processing information and getting the ball out . . . or you get whacked.”

While Tim Tebow may see the move to arena football as a step backwards, it could be exactly what he needs to thrive. Former Rams and Cardinals Pro Bowl QB Kurt Warner used the Arena league to develop his talents before he became one of the most successful NFL quarterbacks of all-time.

The Arena Football league requires quarterbacks to think quick on their feet while throwing from inside the pocket. The fast pace could help Tebow develop better footwork while processing play calling and actions at a faster pace.

The question now is whether or not Tim Tebow wants to be QB 2 in a professional league or QB 1 in what amounts to a farm league of sorts.

The social enterprise giant on Monday confirmed to Business Insider that it is actively recruiting for a new director of ad products.

According to LinkedIn:

“We look forward to hiring a top-notch candidate for this role. As we continue to invest in our Marketing Solutions business, we are looking to expand our talented product team to help build the next generation of advertising and content marketing offerings.”

The director of ad products will likely be responsible for developing new types of ads for the network. The director would also manage those ad types to determine their efficacy.

The “marketing solutions” division which displays ads for brands is the smallest of LinkedIn’s three lines of business which include subscriptions and talent solutions.

Here are the responsibilities listed for the LinkedIn position:

• Understand and lead the analysis of the competitive environment, customers, and product metrics to determine the right feature set to drive success for marketers on LinkedIn
• Drive global product requirements definition, product planning and product design (including writing PRDs) of new product features and enhancements.
• Develop a comprehensive product & marketing roadmap to deliver on the business goals for LinkedIn.
• Work with the product development team and other cross-functional team members to bring features live to the site
• Clearly communicate product benefits to our users and internal stakeholders’

LinkedIn wants someone with at least 7-10 years experience in product management which should cut out a lot of applicants. The social network will accept a BS in a technology related field, but a Master’s Degree is preferred.

Malcolm Shabazz, the grandson of Malcolm X, was murdered over a $1,200 bar tab, according to a city prosecutor in Mexico City, Mexico.

The 28-year-old was beaten by alleged attackers David Hernández Cruz and Manuel Alejandro Pérez de Jesús. The waiters who worked at the Palace Club reportedly approached Shabazz and proceeded to initiate an attack.

Malcolm Shabazz was killed after suffering fatal skull and jaw and rib fractures from the vicious attack.

Two more employees who are believed to have participated in the attack are still being sought out by police officers.

Malcolm had traveled from Tijuana to Mexico City and on Thursday night he headed out on the town with Miguel Suárez, a Mexican labor activist whom Mr. Shabazz had befriended in the United States.

An argument over the large $1,200 tab allegedly broke out around 3 am. The two men were eventually separated by bar employees, and Mr. Shabazz was then beaten with a blunt object. After being taken to another part of the bar, Miguel Suárez was robbed but managed to escape and call police.

Convicted AT&T website hacker Andrew “Weev” Auernheimer has been placed in “administrative segregation,” also known as solitary confinement, after he was caught tweeting to a personal account from prison.

While Auernheimer did not have direct access to a computer he relayed messages to a third party who then transmitted those messages via Twitter by way of Auernheimer’s personal Twitter account.

The solitary confinement appears to be working as Weev’s account has been silent since April 8, 2013.

The team at the Daily Dot acquired a hand written letter from the hacker which reads:

Auernheimer is serving 41 months in prison after he scraped AT&T user data from an unencrypted AT&T website. Weev shared his findings with the website Gawker.

Since the lockdown Weev’s attorney Tor Ekeland has had no contact with his client.

Amazon on Monday debuted a dedicated Cloud Player app for desktop PCs.

The dedicated Cloud Player arrives just one week after Amazon debuted new iOS compatibility with Ford Sync-enabled vehicles.

While PC users could already access the Amazon Cloud Player through their web browsers they could not sore music offline. The new application also allows users to scan their hard drives for music files that have not yet been uploaded to their Amazon storage locker.

The Amazon Cloud Player allows users to stream any music files they have purchased from the Amazon MP3 store. Users can also stream music files they have uploaded to a cloud-based storage locker.

The free version of the Amazon Cloud allows for an unlimited number of  Amazon Songs and up to 250 songs purchased outside of the Amazon system.

Amazon first launched an application for the cloud service two years ago when it arrived for Google Android smartphones. Since that time the Amazon Cloud Player has arrived for OS, Mac, Sonos, Roku, and Ford Sync vehicles.

The cloud space is continuing to heat up as Google, Apple, Amazon, and others fight for the right to store users data outside of their own computers and mobile devices.

For power users who need to store more than 250 of their own songs, Amazon does offer paid Cloud Storage plans that provide for monthly subscriptions.

LinkedIn has banned escorts and prostitutes from its massive social network of working professionals. While the company has always encouraged users from all walks of life to join its ranks, the network apparently doesn’t want “working” girls to take part.

Since the early days of LinkedIn, the company has maintained a clause that calls for “no unlawful activity” via its network. However, in some countries where LinkedIn operates, there are no laws against prostitution. Essentially, the network had no recourse since those working girls were working legally.

On Monday, however, the network updated its user agreement to state that users can not take part in the following:

“Upload, post, email, InMail, transmit or otherwise make available or initiate any content that: Even if it is legal where you are located, create profiles or provide content that promotes escort services or prostitution.”

Social News Daily quotes a rep from LinkedIn who states:

“In the old [user agreement], we had it covered by saying that one could not use a profile to promote anything ‘unlawful. However, in some countries, that activity actually is lawful.”

Social networks from Reddit and Facebook to Twitter and Craigslist have all fallen prey to some form of prostitution advertising. Craigslist in 2012 deleted the “adult” section from its website, and those listings were quickly picked up by Backpage.com.

In the meantime, we are almost certain that most escorts and prostitutes weren’t hoping to jump on LinkedIn and receive a bunch of endorsements from former clients, let alone recommendations and job offers.

The HTC First was heralded in as the first fully featured Facebook phone, but customers didn’t bite, and now the smartphone is facing the possibility of being discontinued.

Sources close to sales of the HTC device claim that AT&T Wireless has sold less than 15,000 units nationwide. Those sales included AT&T’s special $1 smartphone sale.

According to BGR, the $1 sale was a precursor to total discontinuation of the phone, with salespeople making “little if any effort to sell the handset to customers.”

What’s worse is that HTC paid AT&T to guarantee that the Facebook friendly phone would receive prime positioning at point-of-sale displays throughout AT&T retail stores.

It’s believe AT&T is only keeping the phone in stores now because its contract requires the phones to remain.

In responding to the claims, AT&T says:

“As mentioned previously, we do pricing promotions all the time and have made no decisions on future plans.”

AT&T reps have called the phone “hard to justify” in terms of keeping it on store shelves.

The HTC First has been marred with problems associated with the Facebook Home platform. HTC Home was met with many one and two star ratings. At the time of this post, 47.7 percent of Facebook Home ratings suffer from a one-star placement. The Facebook Home OS as a whole averages just 2.3 stars. In comparison, Facebook’s Android app has a 3.6 rating and Facebook Messenger scores much higher with a 4.4 out of 5 star rating.

HTC use to command a majority of the smartphone market, and now the mobile phone manufacturer is pinning all of its hopes on the well received HTC One. The company’s CEO has promised to step down from his post if the HTC One fails to gain traction and the company’s profits continue to suffer.

Amazon has officially acquired smart screen technology company Liquavista.  The acquisition was confirmed by the company on Monday.

Previously owned by Samsung, the tech firm creates low-power color e-paper technology.

Samsung executives were believed to be looking for a quick sale since the company failed to live up to Samsung’s high expectations for its e-paper tech.

In a statement from Amazon, the e-commerce giant writes that it is  ”always looking for new technologies we may be able to incorporate into our products over the long term. The Liquavista team shares our passion for invention and is creating exciting new technologies with a lot of potential. It’s still early days, but we’re excited about the possibilities and we look forward to working with Liquavista to develop these displays.”

Liquavista is best known for its “electrowetting” technology, which is most often found in e-readers, mobile phones, GPS devices, cameras, and portable media players. Electrowetting is used in those devices because of its high level of visibility in all light conditions.

Liquavista has called its electrowetting process a highly scalable system that can ultimately be used in big-screen TVs, larger notebooks, and various other display-based devices.

Previous reports have pegged the deal at somewhere below the $100 million acquisition price.

Amazon and Liquavista have not made the terms of the deal known as this time. It is also unclear if the Liquavista team will join Amazon’s own developers or continue on course with projects that are currently in the works.

Sony on Monday officially revealed its new waterproof smartphone. The Sony Xperia ZR phone can be dropped in up to five feet of water and remain submerged for 30 minutes before going dead.

The smartphone offers a nice set of features that includes a 13-megapixel camera that can be used to shoot videos and take photos while under water. Sony has even created a lock screen access option so photos can be taken in every state.

Adding to the Sony Xperia ZR’s camera setup in Sony’s Exmore RS for mobile image sensor, which brings with it HDR (High Dynamic Range) for both photographs and videos. Sony also offers burst mode, which allows users to snap an unlimited series of photographs at 15 frames per second.

Speaking about the company’s newest smartphone  Xperia Marketing director Calum MacDougall says:

“The Xperia ZR pushes the boundaries on where and how consumers can use the full potential of their smartphone. By combining Sony’s leading camera technology with the highest level of water-resistance, you will never miss another moment.”

The Sony Xperia ZR is powered by a capable Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core 1.5GHz processor. The smartphone also features a 4.6-inch HD Reality screen that is powered by Sony’s Mobile Bravia Engine 2 technology.

The ZR also comes equipped with 4G LTE technology, which takes advantage of the Google Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS.

The Sony Xperia ZR is expected to make its debut this quarter, although Sony has not provided a specific release date or pricing for the device.
