Woman On Drawbridge Stuck During Breast Cancer Walk, Faces Charges

One woman ends her participation in a Breast Cancer walk by becoming stranded on a raised drawbridge; now that’s slightly terrifying.

The woman, now being identified as 55-year-old Wanda McGowan, had allegedly not seen the “No Trespassing” sign, and ended up walking across the bridge, which then began to rise, leaving McGowan stranded over 20 feet in the air.

Though reports say there are numerous “No Trespassing” signs posted throughout the area, the woman’s son told ABC News that she is legally blind, and therefore couldn’t see the signs.

According to NBC News, one witness, Philip Glazebrook, was surprised to see the woman stranded up in the air, considering a loud warning noise is sounded off before the bridge begins to rise up.

“This bridge is controlled from Tallahassee. There’s not a bridge minder here anymore,” Glazebrook said. “So she’s stuck on the bridge and she’s going up. The next thing is, she’s stuck, straddled like Jesus Christ.”

According to the Sun-Sentinel, McGowan will likely be charged with trespassing.

“I don’t know why the locals didn’t charge her,” said Robert Ledoux, a spokesman for the Florida East Coast Railway. “There are numerous ‘No Trespassing’ signs. There is no way she could not know she was trespassing.”

The report continued on to say that after calls started coming in about the woman, again, now identified as Wanda McGowan, firefighters quickly arrived and decided not to lower the bridge, but to instead use a 24-foot ladder to bring McGowan down to safety.

Photos of the woman hanging on for dear life can be found all over Twitter:

Everyone involved have said that they are very thankful that Wanda McGowan was able to be brought down unharmed after being stranded on a raised drawbridge.
