Kobe Bryant Shares Plasma Therapy Photos On Instagram

Kobe Bryant traveled to Germany last week to undergo yet another round of platelet-rich plasma therapy on his injured knee.

Apparently Bryant didn’t tell Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni or anyone else about the new round of treatment. Instead Bryant posted photos of the procedure to Instagram.

Platelet-rich plasma therapy involves removing two tablespoons of a patient’s blood and putting it through a centrifuge. The plasma then turns into a concentrated dose of soft-tissue platelets which are reinjected into the patients injury.

No red blood cells are reinjected which means PRP treatments are NOT considered a form of blood doping.

In July 2011 Bryant also traveled to Germany where he participated in another round of PRP. Bryant underwent the first round of treatment after having bone fragments removed from his knee.

The Los Angels Lakers open the 2013-2014 NBA season is just three weeks, Bryant in the meantime is also nursing an Achilles injury that shortened his season in April.

Last minute trips to Germany for platelet-rich plasma therapy, rehabilitation for an achilles heel injury, Kobe Bryan is definitely showing his age.

Here are several photos of Kobe Bryant’s PRP treatment (Warning: if you don’t like needles there are plenty of them in these photos):

Do you think Kobe Bryant still has a few good playing years left in his aging body? Or will Bryant be forced out of the NBA in the near future because of injuries that won’t let up?
