Justin Bieber Teases New Song ‘Rollercoaster’

Justin Bieber launched his Journals releases on Monday with first single “Heartbreaker,” currently #1 on iTunes in over 56 countries and counting at time of press. But for those who can’t wait until next week the teen star has teased what may be a future release, most likely titled “Rollercoaster.”

Earlier today (Oct. 8), the 19-year-old posted an Instagram video of his manager Scooter Braun, who has joined the singer in South Korea ahead of his Believe tour concert on Thursday. It was captioned,” Scooter acting like Rodney jerkins lol… Rodney’s a legend.”

The Instavid showed Braun doing a pretty dead-on impression of RnB producer Jerkins jamming on an imaginary keyboard while “Rollercoaster” plays in the background.

Jerkins — a four-times Grammy Award winner who has worked with the late Michael Jackson, the late Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, and Brandy, to name just a few, and co-wrote/produced two songs on Bieber’s 2012 Believe album — has also worked on the Canadian’s Journals collection.

Like “Heartbreaker,” the latest snippet reveals Bieber’s deeper move into full-on RnB but maintains the sensibilities of what makes pop great — a catchy, singalong chorus. Listening to the brief tease, the sound is vintage Jerkins circa Brandy’s acclaimed 2002 Full Moon album, echoing the Moog Bass funk of the title track, “I Thought,” and “What About Us?”

Over the last few months Bieber has been in the studio with Future, Pharrell Williams, R. Kelly, Wiz Khalifa, Tyler The Creator, and it’s rumored Chris Brown may have co-penned a track.

Anticipation and debate about Justin’s transition from highly successful tween and teen-orientated idol to a mature artist spiked when he contributed cameo raps to Maejor Ali’s “Lolly” video, Asher Roth’s “Actin’ Up,” also singing on Young Money rapper Lil Twist’s “Twerk” record and “Wait For A Minute” featuring the (also Young Money) rapper Tyga.

Pearls were clutched while some speculated Bieber would be returning to the music fold reinvented as a rapper. But, as Bieber said last year, “I am a singer — that is my passion, Rapping is something that I like to do for fun.”

Over in South Korea, Braun’s take on Journals is a thrilled one. On Tuesday he tweeted:

He later tweeted Bieber the news “Heartbreaker” is #1 iTunes in 63 countries, while attributing its success to ‘Beliebers’ and whetting their appetites for more.

For his part, Justin also expressed delight at the reception to “Heartbreaker” as well as excitement for “Music Mondays” and his Christmas-slated Believe movie-documentary, taking to Twitter to tell his over 45 million followers,
