Trucker Protest Aims To Stop Washington Beltway Traffic, Arrest Congressmen

A trucker protest aims at clogging traffic in the inner loop of Washington, D.C., as a way to take action against the federal government shutdown.

The protest, known as “Truckers Ride for the Constitution” is set to start on Friday morning and last for three days.

Earl Conlon, a Georgia trucker helping to organize the trucker protest, told U.S. News that drivers will line up in rows of three to clog the lanes of D.C,.’s busy roadway. They will leave the left lane open for emergency vehicles but block others out.

The trucks won’t go above the 55 miles per hour speed limit.

“Everybody that doesn’t have a supporter sticker on their window, good luck: Nobody in, nobody out,” he said.

Conlon said he is looking forward to the protest.

“It’s going to be real fun for anyone who is not a supporter,” he said, “[and] if cops decide to give us a hard time, we’re going to lock the brakes up, we’re going to stop right there, we’re going to be a three lane roadblock.”

While the truckers are using civic disobedience to further their cause, other opponents of the government shutdown are opening up their checkbooks. A group of private donors raised $10 million to fund the early childhood education program Head Start, which would have been frozen during the shutdown.

The ultimate goal of the trucker protest is to seek the arrest of congressmen for disregarding their oath to uphold the Constitution.

For Washington, D.C., commuters looking to avoid the trucker protest and its inevitable gridlock, there is one way. Those who have signs that say “T2SDA” (Truckers to Shut Down America) written on their windows will be allowed to pass, Conlon said.

The tickets and arrest at the orders of our clown and chief will result in it being their last ride after they loose their CDL's

Micky are you guys in on this??? Love this idea… Go make those politicians inconvenienced! 😉

Truckers can really shut down America ! more so than Congress ! they will get a great wake up call if they do this !!!

Yes.. Some truckers are really that stupid. Dupes and fools always follow these type of gags. Just remember for the next CDL you will actually have to pass a test. 84% of the gov't is working anyway. That looks just about right to me.

This is a great idea and I love it, but it would actually cause more trouble if the truckers just shut down trucking for a day or week and all stay home. As a matter of fact if this crap was happening 50 years ago we could organize everyone to stay home and shut down the whole country for a day. Something like that is what needs to happen now to make a difference.

People like you are the problem with this country. You will lay down for anything. You are a coward that lets other people do your fighting.

I understand and appreciate what the truckers are attempting to do, but stopping people from getting to work on time is not the way..I think the reaction to the blockade will be negative. At least the truckers are doing something which is more than I can say for this do nothing administration and congress.

I think this is a GREAT idea but it should be done nationwide. They should do the minimum speed limit allowed. I would leave early for work and smile the whole way.

Mike Moberly There is no way that they would lose their CDL's. Doing the speed limit is not against the law. Furthermore, if they tried to take their CDL's, there would be a nationwide protest that would shut down the entire country and there would be violence.

i hope they can go thru with this but i guarantee this administration will do everything they can to stop it.

If anything once everyone was in DC and all politician's were back in office is where we lock down DC, if it isn't a part of the USA then they also should have no complaint's on legal or illegal entry. We need to keep them exiled from the states till they show this country some respect or leave office period.Have them go through the Border patrol as everyone else does to get back in this country.. Other wise be deported as the law does say when you are international territory.

Conlon is not a trucker, nor is he 'in charge'. Check the facts. His group is not the one making the true truckers rally in DC. There was an article last night saying he had 'called it off', but since he has nothing to do with it, he can't really do that now can he?. I'm 100% behind the drivers. There is also a move for NO COMMERCE FOR 3 DAYS. Fill your gas tanks, buy food, all before Friday and then stay out of anywhere that requires you to pay them. Dining establishments, bars, stores of any kind. Just stay home for 3 days…. if nothing sells, nothing moves and the message rings true….. Godspeed Drivers!

I am not against the truckers but this government will do what it wants and they make the rules as they go along. If they get a ticket for some type of moving violation, made up or not, it will be points on their CDL and for some truckers it is more than they can afford to get, resulting in a suspended CDL. As far as the protest and Violence, good luck with that dream. Unless it affects most people immediately and directly, they will not give one rats behind. He was voted in a second term, remember..
