Katherine Heigl Thought She Was Too Big For ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ Ellen Pompeo Says

Katherine Heigl saw the dollar signs of Hollywood and left her Grey’s Anatomy co-stars in the dust, one of the show’s fellow stars claims.

Grey’s Anatomy co-star Ellen Pompeo opened up this week about Heigl’s departure, saying the actress who played Izzy on the show created a lot of discord on the set.

“Hurt feelings, combined with instant success and huge paychecks started things spinning out of control,” Pompeo told the New York Post. “The crazier things got, as I watched all the tumult with Isaiah and then the Katie thing, I started to focus on the work. Maybe it is my Boston, blue-collar upbringing. I just tried to not pay attention to all the noise around me.”

Pompeo added that Katherine Heigl saw a more lucrative career in movies and left the show high and dry.

“When Katie left, it was tough. You could understand why she wanted to go — when you’re offered $12 million a movie and you’re only 26. But Katie’s problem is that she should not have renewed her contract. She re-upped, took a big raise and then tried to get off the show. And then her movie career did not take off.”

Pompeo’s interview came close to a month after Hollywood insiders said Katherine Heigl was being blacklisted for her impossible on-set behavior.

“She can cost you time every single day of shooting… Wardrobe issues, not getting out of the trailer, questioning the script every single day,” one source said.

A story by the Hollywood Reporter said that Heigl has few allies and many enemies, thanks in large part to her public bad mouthing of projects. She once called the movie Knocked Up “sexist” and withdrew her name from Emmy consideration because she didn’t think the writing on Grey’s Anatomy was good enough.

Katherine Heigl has also had a series of box office duds, including One For The Money, which earned only $37 million worldwide and a 2 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Sources now say producers are passing up Heigl for roles.

“On many levels, she would have been perfect for the role, but all of us said, ‘She’s not worth it,’ ” one executive said of a role she missed out on.

Things could be turning around for Katherine Heigl in the near future, however. She currently has two projects in various stages of production.
