Charlize Theron Hides Neck Surgery Bandage On Red Carpet
Charlize Theron hid her neck surgery bandage on the red carpet Friday night. The actress had a minor procedure to fix an injury she got while on the set of Aeon Flux in 2005.
Theron made no mention of the surgery during her appearance for Variety’s 5th Annual Power of Women even in Beverly Hills. She wore a short Stella McCartney dress with a white neck scarf to draw attention away from the bandage.
According to sources for Us Magazine, Theron broke a vertebrae in her neck while filming Aeon Flux. The insider explained, “It’s been bothering her a lot lately so she had surgery to correct it and they had to go through her neck.”
The injury reportedly happened when something on set hit Theron’s head. While she wasn’t “feeling good post-surgery,” the 38-year-old made a good showing at Friday’s event, though she kept adjusting the scarf to keep her bandage hidden.
Another insider explained that, other than Friday’s appearance, Charlize Theron is recuperating from neck surgery by hanging out and resting all weekend. The unnamed source added, “She will be totally fine.”
While the surgery sounds scary, it was apparently “no big deal” and a “very minor procedure” for Theron. The actress made an emotional speech during the even when she was honored for her philanthropic work. A vocal advocate for HIV/AIDS research and awareness, Charlize stated, “It’s impossible for me to accept this award because there’s someone here so much more powerful than me.”
Theron was referring to her mother, Gerda, who sat in the audience. She went on to say:
“I hope you’re OK with me giving this award to my mom. That b*tch was building roads in Africa when no woman was doing that. I thank you, Mom, for teaching me by your actions how to be a strong woman, and for turning me into a p—y every time I talk to you.”
Safe to say, the actress is proud of her mom. There was no word on how long it will take Charlize Theron to recover from neck surgery.
